BIG CD RESTOCK

BIG CHIEF - DRIVE IT OFF ( MC5/STOOGES style) Label:GET HIP With a grungey guitar attack and sludgy sonics, Big Chief's early records sound like prototypical '90s Seattle — except the band is from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Formed by members of several popular local groups (Laughing Hyenas, Necros, McDonalds, Posse From Hell), Big Chief embraced a wide swath of hard-rock influences, ranging from righteous homeboys the MC5 and the Stooges to Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer and Black Flag. The twist is in the funk, however; Big Chief hails from George Clinton country, too, and their debt to Dr. Funkenstein — an obligation none of their forbears knew from — would become obvious later on. CD $10 SKU:22752

BLUE SANDELWOOD SOAP - Loring Park Love-Ins (1968 us, groovy beat psych with baroque folk sparkles) )-Label:GET HIP From the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, Blue Sandlewood Soap was one of relatively few '60s psychedelic groups from the region (though there were others, such as C.A. Quintet and, on some of their records, the Litter and T.C. Atlantic).Groovy 12-string guitar, subtle bass work, and far-out Farfisa solos are woven together by truly strange tempos and surprising breaks, about half of this release was recorded in the basement of organist Harley Toberman's apartment around 1967 CD $10 SKU:22978

CYNICS- Living is the Best Revenge ( 60s style garage )- Label:GET HIP Living Is The Best Revenge CD completes the jumpstart upon my Ray-O-Vac heart. Alongside the two above-referenced originals and the Prunes tune are stellar covers of the Satans and the 13th Floor Els (what would a Cynics album be without the band genuflecting before the sonic teats that have nourished them since their cub scout years?) plus a slew of prime Cyns’ skree. Among my picks to click are the malevolent, iPsycho”-edged “The Tone” and the interstellar hard rock jam “Shine” which sounds like Coltrane crossed with the old Alice Cooper Group. But there ain’t a duff track in the bunch, and all I can close this appreciation with is — boy fuggin’ howdy!-Fred Mills, assoc. ed., MAGNET Magazine CD $10 SKU:10900

DEEP REDUCTION - ST(W Radio Birdman’s DENIZ TEK)Label:GET HIP Deep Reduction pays tribute to everything from delta blues to Led Zeppelin to ’70s Punk and Pop with Deniz Tek’s signature guitar mastery. Deep Reduction came to be when Radio Birdman’s Deniz Tek was asked to produce the latest Stump Wizards record, “Contains Lead.” The band and the producer hit it off well and the first Deep Reduction single, “Black Tulip” was the result. Recorded during breaks in the action, it was a spontaneous burst of energy that resulted in this follow-up full length. Sure, this record has it’s roots in Tek’s classic Radio Birdman days and the Stump Wizards mutant punk/hard rock sound, but it really is something entirely new and different and something to be reckoned with. CD $10 SKU:21927

DELMONAS-DO THE UNCLE WILLY(BRITISH GIRL GARAGE PRE-HEADCOATEES.)-Label:GET HIP BRITISH GIRL GARAGE PRE-HEADCOATEES.British garage pop girl group, the Del Monas began life as the Milk-Boilers, by singing backup on some early Milkshakes recordings. Sarah and Hilary took the lead on a rendition of the Shirelles song “Boys” (as covered by the Beatles) before Louise joined, striking out on their own with a couple of four-song EPs in 1984: Comin’ Home Baby (popularized by Mel Tormé) and Hello, We Love You (actually the Doors’ “Hello, I Love You”). In both cases, the Milkshakes served as their backing band, Billy Childish and Mickey Hampshire penning the original numbers. By this time the girls had been re-christened the Del Monas, the name being inspired by the Bo Diddley song. CD $10 SKU:22632

ENFIELDS /FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY-SONGS OF TED MUNDA (obscure 60s Left Banke style)-Label:GET HIP ANOTHER FINE OBSCURE 60’S PIECE . IT’S FOLK-ROCK IN THE PRIMITIVE LEFT BANKE VEIN. CD $10 SKU:21930

FORTUNE AND MALTESE- and the Phabulous Pallbearers-ST (Paul Revere Style Garage ) Label:GET HIP Fortune & Maltese have been cranking out their take on Paul Revere & The Raiders for several years producing a handful of tracks on various 45s and comps. This CD contains the 19 tracks that made up their Screaming Apple LP plus a previously unreleased track, 'Louise.' While their style has the authentic '60s sound, they have the energy of modern garage bands like the Cynics or Chesterfield Kings. CD $10 SKU:22948

HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEARTS--HEELS 'N' WHEELS(guitar-fueled rock n’ roll )-Label:GET HIP Heels ‘n’ Wheels brings more of the fun, raucous, guitar-fueled rock n’ roll HSS does so well; packed with hooks and riffs and sweetened juuuuuuust a bit with infectious “Brill Building” melodies. Punk , pop and garage delightfully converge, perfectly showcasing the band’s irresistible part-trash/part-panache style and reminding you that the best rock n’ roll means great times, great songs, and the refusal to sacrifice either! CD $10 SKU:22636

KRAVIN A-KRave On (60s style Beatle-esque pop)- if $5 Label:GET HIP Neat combination of Beatles and the Zombies inspired material injected with an extra dose of beKRAVIN Aat. This band could have rocked the Cavern club with the best of them! ‘60s style Beatle-esque pop. CD $10 SKU:22175

LAZY SMOKE - Corridor Of Faces ( legendary 68 psych BEATLES STYLE ) - Label:ARF ARF Like the Velvet Underground and Big Star, Lazy Smoke has become more famous in death than life. MULLENS-ST -(Texas jangly garage-punk )Label:GET HIP On their eponymous debut album, Dallas garage-punk combo The Mullens stay true to their wild Texas roots. Fellow Lone Star Staters The Outcasts and The Changing Times would hail songs like "Step on the Gas," "You Thought Wrong," and "All Fours" as the best rock'n'roll since Kenny and the Casuals were all drafted in the Summer of '66! CD $12 SKU:22331

NEW SALEM WITCH HUNTERS-HOT SAUCE & HAPPENINGS (garage psych) -Label:GET HIP 18 new tracks featuring the pop-garage sound of the New Salem Witch Hunters. On much of this album, The Hunters take the basic garage premise and lace it with varying doses of psych, pop or even a touch of country. CD $10 SKU:22334

NITWITZ - DARK SIDE OF THE SPOON (1978 Stooges/MC5/Ramones style) -Label:GET HIP Founded in 1978, the young band barely caught the dissipating ripples of the first punk rock wave. In taking their lead from groups like the Stooges, MC5, the Ramones and Australia’s Saints, the Nitwitz had little in common with the angry, unwashed masses of English spiky-tops who sang about “the dole,” depression, and gang warfare. (Although they had a definite fondness for a few fast-riffing exceptions like the Lurkers, Drones, and Stiff Little Fingers.) Instead, the 16-year-old Nitwitz waxed poetic about girls they liked, girls they didn’t like, school, their favorite TV cartoon show, and getting beat up by disco kids. CD $10 SKU:22756

OS, HAXIXINS - S/T (garage punk Portuguese psych ) Label:GET HIP Out of the southern hemisphere comes the fuzz laden OS HAXIXINS. Garage in the style OS HAXIXINS of the great sixties groups the Music Machine the Standells & We the People. Portuguese & English vocals only adds to the uniqueness of OS HAXIXINS music. Influenced by hard to find 60's records, garage punk and psychedelia, CD $10 SKU:27148

PAINT FUMES-IT AIN'T WORTH A HUFF Label:GET HIP Like the lovechild of Link Wray and Cheetah Chrome, raised by Lemmy on the streets of Venus, they sweated out the fever every night in ecstatic style. By the time Slovenly Recs got around to spitting out a couple classic 45s and their debut platter Uck Life, most true heads and even those way out of the know alike had gotten the message. Deep within a blitzkrieg of treble and feedback, there were real live tunes to sink your teeth into, the shit that’s stuck in your head when you wake up in another dimension CD $10 SKU:22757

PILSNER -AUTOSUGGESTION (Iggy,Ramones,Thunders style!) -Label:GET HIP Influenced by rockers like Iggy and the Stooges, the Ramones, Motorhead, and Johnny Thunders, ,inspired mix of punk, blues, and heavy metal. CD $10 SKU:22905

POP RIVETS-FUN IN THE U.K (1977 punk) -Label:GET HIP The Pop Rivets came together in England during 1977 along with the punk wave that was then sweeping the music scene. Borrowing money, they recorded an album in 1979, Greatest Hits which make up some of the tracks on this retrospective. Their sound was unpolished, loud and exciting. Hear what you missed, NOW! CD $10 SKU:22758

POW WOWS-BROKEN CURSES (60s-influenced fuzz guitar rock)Label:GET HIP The sophomore album by Toronto garage-punks Pow Wows features 10 unstoppable new tracks overflowing with ’60s-influenced fuzz guitar, dynamic rhythms, and wild, amped-up vocals. (2015) CD $10 SKU:22638

RAZZELS- Throttle( 70s Cheap trick style power pop) Label:GET HIP Buffalo, New York pop punk trio the Razzels continue their quest for world domination through melodic, hard-edged power pop via their sophomore album …Throttle. With a new drummer on board, the band has improved on their trademark melodic punkish power pop.Reminiscent of ’70s greats Cheap Trick, as well as the early recordings of hometown brethren the Goo Goo Dolls, the Razzels add some thrashy, punk fervor to the classic power pop recipe. What you get is basic three-chord-bashin’ pop in the form of 15 cuts, including live favorites “Turn Your Head” and “Trying to Find Myself.” CD $10 SKU:22640

SHUTDOWN 66-WELCOME TO DUMPSVILLE (Missing Links Pretty Things style) -Label:GET HIP Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Shutdown 66 draws inspiration from–and well-earned comparisons to–fellow Oz rockers the Missing Links, as well as trash-god maestros the Pretty Things and a whole slough of ’60s garage and British R&B icons.Filled with killer original songs like “Shutdown 66” and the rollicking title track, Welcome to Dumpsville kicks with a ’60s rock ‘n’ roll feel thick with intoxicating rhythms, harps, maracas, and raw guitars–all that good stuff garage fans love! CD $10 SKU:22908

SIRENS -ST (70s style SHANGRI LAS/ glam style!)Label:GET HIP The bulk of this debut was recorded in a 48-hour frenzy at Tarbox Studios by Michael Ivins of the Flaming Lips. Taking his cue from a description of their sound as some where between the Shangri-Las and Black Sabbath, Ivins perfectly captures the lethal combination of loud fuzz guitars and serious singing that sets these girls apart from the usual “Detroit Garage Sound.” This record is also graced by 3 glam-basted tunes produced by Jim Diamond, including a cover of the little known pre-NY Dolls British rock kings, The Hollywood Brats. And speaking of covers, the Sirens apologetically mine the endless supply of Rock 'n Roll nuggets that inspire them. The offerings on this record run the full gamut from Roky Erickson to Suzi Quatro, from the Equals to Timi Yuro, while firmly rooted in their ’70s Glam influenced sound. CD $10 SKU:21816

SWAMP RATS- DISCO STILL SUCKS ( primal 60s punk ) -Label:GET HIP Primal 60's Punk and melodic garage from McKeesport, Pennsylvania! The wicked torrent of fuzzed-out mayhem these Steel City hooligans burned onto their ‘66 and ‘67 single sides is legendary, from a raunchy "Louie Louie" that drinks the Kingsmen under the table, to the head-smash of "Psycho," to the gunpowdered cover of the Sparkles’ "No Friend of Mine." But you get not only all the singles on this first-ever proper reissue of their material, but four bona-fide killers from the vaults, including an original muscle-car fuzz romp called "Hey Freak"; an extended version of "Tobacco Road" that’s a shotgun wedding of Nashville Teens R&B hedonism and Blues Magoos Bronx bombshells; a fine bluesy original called "I’m Going Home"; and a spiffy cover of the Kinks’ "She’s Got Everything." With the band members telling their story for the first time in the extensive liners, unseen photos galore, and crisp sound, this is of the best 60's reissue albums ever! CD $10 SKU:22979

MICHIGAN MAYHEM!- Vol 1 (top notch 60S compilation, featuring garage, psych and hard rock entries)Label:MORE FUN 28 forgotten 60’s Michigan garage gems. DESCRIPTION: For fans of riff-driven, raw garage rock, Michigan Mayhem Vol. 1 is a good place to start. Most of the tracks on this are good and it's a fairly eclectic compilation—from the acid rock of Black Rose to the psych-pop of the Pagens to the to the R&B-influenced garage rock of the Rationals to the countrified homage to beer by the Pleasure Seekers. Not all of the tracks on Michigan Mayhem Vol. 1 work but the range of styles represented here makes this compilation an interesting and essential documentation of the time period. Seance by the Ebb Tide provides an example of the low-budget horror film music that a number garage revival bands focused on several years later. I'm not sure why this was the case—music like this too often just plods along. The last track in this collection What a Way to Die by the Pleasure Seekers is notable because they were an all-female band with a young Suzi Quatro on bass. The song asks her boyfriend not to make her choose between him or beer, which she loves above all, apparently. The title comes from the acknowledgement that beer does not lead to a healthy lifestyle, "I may not make it to 21 but what a way to die" (Hey, remember when alcoholism was funny?) The flip side of this single is much better but not included here. Both sides of the Pleasure Seekers' single are available (with much better sound quality) on the compilation Friday at the Hideout, but that's not to say that Friday at the Hideout is a better compilation than this one. The driving, infectious garage rock on Michigan Mayhem Vol. 1 more than compensates for its occasional inconsistency and less-than-perfect audio quality. As indicated in the title, all of the bands on this compilation came from Michigan, which had thriving scenes of all sorts of music, particularly in Detroit. Perhaps what makes Michigan such a good source of garage rock of the sort on this compilation is that it incorporates eclectic influences while still retaining the inspired amateurism of garage rock. Highly recommended! COMP CD $10 SKU:27046

BERTIE - Algy Lord Gray (1970 Kinks influenced) SAALELabel:SEELIE COURT A gloriously mad Kinks-influenced underground Edwardian progressive masterpiece. It’s as if Noel Coward, Hawkwind, The Incredible String Band, Neu, The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and The Kinks were scrambled together in a disastrous Star Trek teleportation accident. In 1970 the Berties took over a crumbling mansion in the wilds of Wales, made this LP, sent it to John Peel (whose letter of reply is reproduced on the sleeve), and never left. They remain in Wales to this day. Bertie is a deranged subversive and witty concept album about a man’s descent into ruin. ‘Dragonfly Wings’ combines proto-motorik drumming (predating Neu) with Hawkwind and Incredible String Band influences. The surefire future hit ‘Would You Like a Brown Ale?’ is pure Ray Davies filtered through the demented minds of this ex-Etonian band of dissipated aristocratic youths mangling La Bamba into a Kinksian breakdown. ‘Would You Like To Score? says it like it is, without the wishy washy metaphors of the proletarian bands of the time—there is no ‘purple haze’ here, only, ‘where can we buy drugs’. Far better than SF Sorrow, Tommy or Arthur, Bertie is a powerful argument for the return of a feudal system and a new British Empire. To reiterate, Bertie is the greatest LP ever made, and we wish to the gods we could press it on Shellac. Only two or three original LPs are known to exist, with fabulous hand sprayed covers. THE BEST LP IN THE WORLD. Originals valued at over £4,000. "The greatest LP ever made” — Seelie Court LP $24 SKU:24684

LES SEQUELLES -Tes Chansons Cruelles (60s style freakbeat) Label:DIONYSUS Les Sequelles specialize in catchy, psychedelic beat-pop with an authentic 1960s sound and damned if they don't have it down to a science. "Un Scotch Svp!" and the sitar-drenched "Nypholie" are both instrumental, so don't worry too much if you're not bilingual. Otherwise, it's recommended to listen to "Ma Petite Hypocrite," "Je Suis Un Minet" and the absolutely amazing "Monsieur Le Son," which conjures up images of white go-go boots, long flying hair and polyester-clad hips all a-shimmy. As occurred with many British bands from the 60s, they adopted different musical influences as the decade progressed and "underground" was the thing to be, so by the late 60s, Little Big Horn incorporated West Coast, Americana and hard-rock elements to their powerful sound. Their sole album was released only in Germany in 1971 as part of a deal between Shel Talmy Productions and the Bellaphon label (along with other obscure acts like Sunday and Diabolus) and it's an interesting mix of rootsy Americana and heavy rock. Here’s the first ever legit vinyl reissue, expanded to a double LP set with the addition of the killer 45 B-side “Just A Game” and excellent unissued material from the time. Transferred from original master tapes. Gatefold sleeve plus insert with rare photos and detailed liner notes by AlecPalao.RIYL: The Band, Led Zeppelin, Byrds, Badfinger, Grapefruit, Bronco, Plastic Penny, Youngbloods… LP $22 SKU:24476

LORE CITY Participation MystiqueLP + download (elements of psych rock, post- rock, dark wave, and dream pop)SAALE! Label:LORE CITY Praise for Lore City: “Lore City pack a mystical punch” – LOUD WOMEN"Their cinematic flair bodes well for a soundtrack to the great shift of humanity.” – POST-PUNK“a trance-inducing shamanistic ritual, meant to bring you closer to both one’s ancestors and the universe” – The Joy of Violent Movement“positively artful and stirring” – Destroy//Exist “sounds as if it were reverberating in a deep cave below the forest floor” – Tome to the Weather Machine“a massively psychedelic landscape” – MangoWave“brings a unique, atmospheric sound, has a post-punk feel, and a mystical aura” – Roadie Music“combines elements of psych rock, post- rock, dark wave, and dream pop” – YMX “close your eyes and let the music seep into your brain” – Faeton Music “natural and unique” – Artists Central“Lore City has made a seriously successful attempt to innovate” – Maxazin Album Statement and Backstory"Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow never was. Move your piece around the board, sheath of the physical. Light the lamp within. Corral. Catch sight of a fireball careening across the sky, blazing. Something is on fire, and it’s coming down on us. Lull into the love that is afforded to you, lull into the lead of sleep, lull into the movies. Push, pull. Marching to our realizations, marching to work, marching to our resolutions. And you’re waiting, waiting for that call to come. Standing across from, standing next to, coming to a standstill. Earthly divide. The eternal afternoons, parallel. The moments when something moves closer. A phantom ship wafting, calling home across the water. Recreating the familiar, ancient original feeling. An expanse, cascading.
A rare event happened in early 2020, something that occurs only once every 500 years. Saturn directly aligned with Pluto within the constellation of Capricorn. Essentially, hard lessons joined forces with transformational evolution regarding the infrastructure between the material and the spirit. I know you know. Queued up in a world of limbo and revolution, Lore City tunneled into new songs, finally sending Alchemical Task to press in the early summer days. By then, they were halfway through Participation Mystique. Original Feeling cleared the way, and by the time Buttons materialized with somber holiness, they knew it was finished. Another installment for the continuum, its contents esoterically encyclopedic." LP $18 SKU:24630

LOST SOULS --ST mid 60s unknown U.S. Brit Invasion/ psych) SAALE! Label:LION "The Lost Souls never released any records, yet the meager recorded evidence that survives indicates that they were one of the finest unknown American groups of the mid-'60s, able to write both catchy British Invasion-type rockers and, in their latter days, experimental psychedelic pieces with unusual tempo changes and song structures. The band were also unusual in their occasional embellishment of the typical period guitar-bass-drums lineup with flute, sax, and mandolin. Although popular in their Cleveland hometown, they broke up in 1968 to attend college. Rhythm guitarist Denny Carleton, who wrote and sang some of their best material, went on to briefly join The Choir, their chief (and more successful) rivals." —Richie Unterberger The music scene in Cleveland in the mid to late 1960’s was ripe with talent: the James Gang with Joe Walsh and Glenn Schwartz, The Choir, Eric Carmen (pre-Raspberries), Glass Harp with Phil Keaggy, the Damnation of Adam Blessing… and the Lost Souls. Of all those bands, only the Lost Souls never released a record. Then again, they were in high school, trying to navigate dress codes and bullies—and playing in front of a couple thousand fans when not suspended. Sure, they lost a battle of the bands at Teen Fair 1968, but it was to the James Gang with Joe Walsh. And somehow it is the Lost Souls who emerge from that time and place with the greatest mystique and some of the most adventurous music, music which few have heard. Lost Souls main songwriter Denny Carleton released a cassette of the band’s original recordings in 1984. It received airplay on hundreds of college and public radio stations in the USA (and around the world), and garnered glowing reviews… and that was it, until now. Not only is this the first time the music of the Lost Souls has been available since that cassette, our Lion Productions edition is the first release for many additional Lost Souls cuts, including alternate versions of key tracks like the insightful ‘Things That Are Important’ and ‘I’m Falling’ (the closest to a hit the band ever had), all taken from the original tapes and carefully mastered. Seven bonus tracks highlight the work of Lost Soul's main songwriter Denny Carleton (one-time member of The Choir, and more surprisingly, punk legends the Pagans); selections by The Choir, Moses, Milk and Carleton, many in all possible low-fi glory, recorded on various 4-Track devices, ranging from power-pop to grimy garage.•8-page booklet has the full story of the band and info on the recordings by Carlton •Includes a multitude of unseen photos from his personal archiv•Carefully remastered from the original tapes (+ the occasional post-Lost Souls 45 single)•”One of the great lost groups of the 60's.” —Option Magazine

MAD FABLES - Get Off(70s Dead style)SAALE Label:VOID Rare New Jersey band from the 70's in a grooving, jamming rock in a Grateful Dead (in their seventies garb, post Pig Pen), Allman Brothers (with Duane still alive), Little Feat vein. This is the kind of record that gets better the more it goes on, with side two being one of the most desirable in the whole genre.Mad Fables came together in the 1970’s before such labels as "jam band" or “indie band" existed. They self-produced and published their own music — they released “Get Off” in 1977 — and established a base of friends who enjoyed music and community. They called it "making a record". Every year Mad Fables would celebrate the end of winter and arrival of Spring, by throwing a huge party to which the entire world was invited. Attendees were asked to bring their signature dish or beverage and the group would play spirited sets of music. The leftovers usually fed the group for a month. Mad Fables drew thousands of people to their self-run events. Far more people say they “saw the band live” than actually exist in the state of New Jersey! After the group disbanded around 1980, the feasts continued as a type of once a year reunion. Shockingly enough, the Feast was held for 30 consecutive years. Mad Fables music was never destined for commercial acceptance. In its best years, its members’ incomes would never rise to the poverty line. But for those who were touched by it, the music burns brightly even today. According to the band, Mad Fables' music was the result of a process "that nourished and drew upon their collective experience, fusing the music with whatever emotions arose while playing. This audio alchemy unleashed an energy that enveloped those tuned to this type of frequency, and drove all to a joyful madness.”
