Joel Christie played bass as a session player for Lee Michaels. Dale Loyola was the drummer for Hook and many other LA-based bands. In 1972, they formed The Cosmic Travelers and relocated to Oahu, Hawaii. This Ultra-Rare live 1972 recording of them in the extinct crater of Diamond Head in front of 7,000 fans is full of long, crazed fuzzed outguitars, thundering bass, and pounding drum jams. BEYOND THE CALICO WALL V/A (Excellent 60s acid-punk sampler) Label:VOXX LAST PRESSING of classic 60s psych! We thought this one was out of print, but found a few jackets at the pressing plant Excellent acid-punk sampler put together by New England collector Erik L. Issued fairly late in the game but recycling lots of weird psych numbers for the first time. A few tracks fall into the pointless-noise/novelty category but overall this was one of the best comps of the early 90s. All of the pieces are unbridled master strokes of the proto-punk D.I.Y. mentality married to the equally inspired garage rock psych of the mid- to late '60s. In a significant nod to collectors, none of these sides can be found on run-of-the-mill "best-of" anthologies, and there are only a mere handful that are available in any other incarnation. The material ranges from highly infectious pop melodies such as Duffy's spry rocker "Come Back Come Back" or the speed-fueled madness of the Waterproof Tinkertoy's trippy "Continuation." There are also a fair amount of indescribably acidic and downright far-out cuts, including the repetitive "Suzie's Gone" by the Afterglow and the rambling of Ceylib People's "Changes." In addition to the plethora of unearthed gems, Beyond the Calico Wall features a few familiar titles -- such as the faithfully extended 11-plus minute reworking of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" from 6 Feet Under as well as Rasputin & the Mad Monks' jet-propelled rendering of "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)." Bhagavad Gita includes a mid-tempo distortion-driven electric guitar wailer titled "Long Hair Soulful," which was co-written by Chuck Mangione -- who included his version on his Eyes of the Veiled Temptress (1988). COLOGNE CURIOSITIES-THE UNKNOWN KRAUTROCK UNDERGROUND 1972-1976' - DBL Label:MENTAL EXPERIENCE Cologne Curiosities' collects, for the first time on vinyl, all the otherwise unpublished/un-reissued material that originally appeared on the three 'Unknown Deutschland - The Krautrock Archive' CD's, released by Virgin in 1996. These recordings date from 1972-1976 and were made at studios in Cologne and surroundings. The material was produced by Toby Robinson, mainly to have fun at the studio. Bands would come in for practice sessions, to record demos, and during slack periods impromptu jams would happen. Most of these sessions were recorded by Toby, and they feature Toby himself plus a revolving cast of friends and musicians (some of them apparently big Kraut names using made up monikers). Dunwich Records was an independent American record label started by Bill Traut, Eddie Higgins and George Badonsky in Chicago in 1965. Dunwich was also a production company which licensed recordings to other labels, including Atlantic, Atco, Columbia, Mercury and SGC. The label was primarily known for the release of singles from the emerging Chicago rock scene in the 1960s. Only two artists, the Shadows of Knight and Amanda Ambrose,actually released LPs on the label. They were later absorbed by ATCO Records but, for one brief shining moment...they ruled the airwaves!

OUTSIDERS (UK) --CALLING ON YOUTH (1977 glam punk)-Label:1972 Before fronting classic post-punk group The Sound, Adrian Borland was a Wimbledon teenager enamored of Iggy Pop and the Velvet Underground. With friends, he formed The Outsiders. In 1976, they home-recorded 'Calling On Youth', a searching full-length that straddles nihilo-punk argot as well as smudged glam balladry. Its release in 1977, on the group's own Raw Edge label, with Borland's cityscape abstraction on the cover, marked the first independent punk full-length in the United Kingdom. 'Calling On Youth' announces Borland as more than a precious teenage bandleader. The nervous introspection, wiry leads and negative space that he would refine solo and in The Sound, Second Layer and Witch Trials glistens throughout 'Calling On Youth', beckoning rediscovery. PENTHOUSE 5-IT'S ALL MY OWN BIZARRE DREAM + 7"( rare mid sixties TEXAS garage psych) -Label:BREAK-A-WAY Hailing from the Dallas suburb Oak Cliff, The Penthouse 5 had its heyday in 1966-'67, when the band recorded a number of self-penned tunes and released two 45s. Several recordings from 1967 and other, more psychedelic influenced tracks remained unreleased, but demonstrate the musical versatility of the band. In 1966 the group underwent a substantial line-up change when three of the original band members, among them vocalist Rob Graham, left the group. He was replaced by Jon Williams, who had previously been with the By Fives and WordD. Alongside the Penthouse 5 recordings, the rare 7-inches of these closely linked bands are all collected for this release. Additionally an until now completely unknown 5-track '65 acetate rounds up this collection of rare and lost recordings by one of the greatest local '60s bands from the Lone Star State. PROTAGONISTS-1983 - 1985 (Rare mid 80s Chicago Punk) BLUe Label:ALONA’S DREAM Rare mid-1980's suburban Chicago (Naperville!) punk Thirteen song LP includes the band’s hard to find 7” alongside unreleased studio tracks, demos & live cuts. Naperville’s Protagonists formed in the wake of the first wave of Chicago hardcore punk. Instead of being inspired by the first generation weirdo Chicago punks like Silver Abuse and Tutu & The Pirates or the hardcore legion that followed (AOF, ROTA, Negative Element, etc.), Protagonists drew their motivation from sources as diverse as punk icons Buzzcocks, The Dickies and The Damned to prime era 50’s and 60’s teen anthems (Buddy Holly, Dell Shannon, and The Monkees).The group formed in a Naperville high school, played local talent shows and teen dance parties, and hooked up with older kids (Reaction Formation) who helped them get radio gigs and put out a tape recorded by Phil Bonnet, influential recording engineer and long-time friend. The band followed up with a 7” for Reaction Formation’s label Nova which garnered positive reviews but they were shortly after pulled apart by the usual strains on the end of adolescent trajectories.This compilation gathers their original tape, unheard outside of the suburban Chicago teen punk scene, and pairs it with the songs from their hard-to-find 7” EP (originally pressed in 1,000 copies in 1985). The B-side features basement demos of original songs recorded by the band as well some great covers which show they could rock as a punk dance band.
