Hailing from Fremantle in Western Australia, DATURA4 is the brainchild of Dom Mariani (frontman of legendary Australian garage rockers The Stems and Power Pop favourites DM3) and Greg Hitchcock (former You Am I and one-time New Christs’ guitarist). COLLINS- Feel The Noise STARBURST VINYL - Label:ALIVE Produced by Detroit studio legend Jim Diamond, who also plays bass and guitar, and features Dave Shettler (SSM) on drums, Eddie Baranek (The Sights) on lead guitar, and Nikki Corvette.Paul Collins is a guy who's been around the block. He was one of the progenitors of the early power-pop movement in the '70s in not one, but three influential bands of that era - The Nerves, The Breakaways and The Beat (the latter even appearing on Dick Clark's American Bandstand back in the day). He later turned towards a decidedly rootsier approach to his music, exploring country and folk rock, before returning to the more driving, high-energy sounds of his youth on his acclaimed 2010 Alive Naturalsound effort "The King Of Power Pop". His music has been covered by a host of talented musicians, most notably his song "Walking Out On Love," which Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong performed as part of the punk band's hit Broadway musical American Idiot.
Collins has been diligently working the DIY circuit since 2008, playing with some 160 up-and-coming bands in that time, and working harder than he has in his entire career. The music legend is still standing and has the same enthusiasm for the music that he did when he first started rocking out in 1974.
On his new album, "Feel The Noise", Paul Collins travels full-circle, tapping into the very spirit of rock 'n' roll that fueled much of his early groundbreaking material. This new album (with a cover featuring a beautiful shot of a younger Paul Collins) is the obvious extension of his most iconic work with, what many still consider to be the one of the most important power-pop band, The Beat. Frontman Kevin Preston has also continued participation in Green Day side-project Foxboro Hot Tubs.While touring the US and Europe, Prima Donna was in and out of the studio numerous times, both at home in L.A. and in Milan, Italy. Earle Mankey was a founding member of the odd new-wave 80's band, Sparks. Mankey has some serious production credits to his name too, including Concrete Blonde's first album.
"Mau Mau" begins with a jungle drum beat and a chorus of low voiced fellows singing "Ugachukka, ugachukka" over and over again. The song makes an abrupt left turn when Mankey begins singing about an African "...who can take his love any way he can, by the point of spear, by the point of knife" in his distant pop voice over a tinkley synth sound. Mankey builds layer upon layer in the chorus, with guitars ultimately building to a "Baba O'Rielly" guitar riff. The people at Pseudonym now attempt to rectify that situation with 'Rebellion', a full album of rare and previously unreleased recordings by the Dream and Mothers Love. Dateline 1966 - the Pacific Northwest of the USA - a hotbed for numerous local and regional bands following the tradition of the renowned North West Fratrock of the Kingsmen or the uncompromising Rock & Roll of The Sonics and Wailers. Not so the United Travel Service. They were sadly overlooked at the time but are now revered for their two brilliant, killer folkadelic 45 releases "Wind And Stone b/w Drummer Of Your Mind" and "Gypsy Eyes b/w Echo Of You". The UTS were mainly influenced by the San Francisco scene, Garage Rock and the Byrds. Their high quality repertoire, written by guitarist Ben Hoff and produced by New Tweedy Brothers producer Rick Keefer, would have made a classic local psychedelic album if released back then. But it was not to be. Break-A-Way presents for the first time, a collection of the bands rare 45s, along with five more, until now unreleased studio recordings, plus three home demos. There is also included a detailed history of the band stuffed with rare photos and labels from the members scrapbook. All that is on a 4-page LP sized insert printed on fully glossy paper.
