DRIFTERS BOX- ROCKIN AND DRIFTIN’-3 CD SET Label:RHINO NOTE: UNSEALED but mint disc. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP Vocal groups and styles came and went from the 1950s through the 1980s, but somehow the Drifters evolved and persevered, spanning doo-wop and disco before being relegated exclusively to the oldies touring circuit. Rockin' & Driftin' collects highlights from the group's embryonic Clyde McPhatter-led era (beginning with 1953's "Money Honey") into the mid-'70s, when the group still had some standing in the U.K. "On Broadway," "There Goes My Baby," "Up on the Roof," "Under the Boardwalk"--they're all included in this handsome, thoroughly annotated three-disc box set. All told, there are 79 selections here; the 16-song Very Best of the Drifters is a viable option for more casual fans interested in a selection of '59 to '64 smashes. More thorough-minded fans of vocal groups will find that Rockin' & Driftin' satisfies their hunger for Drifters nuggets great and small. --Steven Stolder CD $40 SKU:27382

HOT RODS & CUSTOM CLASSICS - 4 CD BOX SET - with book and more- Label:RHINO NOTE: UNSEALED but mint discs Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP ere's an educated guess that road tapes are the second most popular type of homemade mix cassette. (One suspects that old off-road standard--the bedroom mix--would clock in at No. 1.) Hot Rods & Custom Classics is Rhino Records' big daddy of road mixes: four discs housed in an elaborate box that includes a scrupulously assembled 66-page booklet, a catalog of hot-rod accessories, a strip of decals, and even a set of fuzzy dice for your own resto rod. Musically, this collection is all over the road, ranging from selections that seem like they were written with one foot on the accelerator (Johnny Bond's "Hot Rod Lincoln," Chuck Berry's "Maybelline," War's "Low Rider") to more tangential tracks that might force you to pull into a rest stop (Hank Williams's mournful "Lost Highway," Rod Stewart's "Gasoline Alley"). Spanning multiple genres and five decades, Custom Classics is enlivened by film and ad snippets, including a public-safety message from high-speed-crash victim James Dean on, naturally, safe highway driving. --Steven Stolder CD $35 SKU:27381

BOSSMEN - Personally Yours: The Complete Anthology w liners, rare photos, booklet. -Label:LION Liner notes by Dick Wagner + reflections on the Bossmen by Bo White and Ryan Sparks ,Massive color booklet with rare photos, Limited to 500 copies. Dick Wagner and his guitar. The Frost. Ursa Major. Lou Reed's "Rock 'n' Roll Animal". Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare". Kiss. Aerosmith. Peter Gabriel. Wagner's contribution to rock 'n' roll is immense. And it all started a little bit north of Detroit with the Bossmen. In just three years (1964-67), The Bossmen amassed an impressive run of no less than eight regional number one singles. When you listen to these eighteen original compositions you can sense the long hours and the countless amount of blood, sweat and tears that went into creating them. Whether it's a stinging guitar solo (the sonic blast of an intro on 'Sunshine' comes to mind), a regal four part vocal harmony or a soaring arrangement, each tune bears the distinct early characteristics of the ‘Wagner’ sound that would later bring him success on a global scale and write him into the annals of rock ‘n' roll history. "I look back on the days of The Bossmen with a sort of reverence. These were my first days of recording my own original songs, entering the concert scene and learning the basic trials of making it in the music business. I get chills even today just thinking back on the two or three block line that formed every time we played our home town venue, Daniel’s Den. The Bossmen were the heroes and purveyors of the primal Rock energy for that angelic group of screaming youth. MAN… those were the days!" —Your Boss man, Dick Wagner • Liner notes by Dick Wagner + reflections on the Bossmen by Bo White and Ryan Sparks CD $10 SKU:15879

BRAZDA BROTHERS - ST (Mesmerizing 1973 acid fuzz 1973) Label:VOID /HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS (USA) Mesmerizing acid folk/rock album from 1973 by Canadian band fronted by acoustic guitarist Bystrik and lead guitarist Andy Brazda; features acoustic material with bursts of electric guitar and keyboards; some great acid fuzz guitar work, which means that at times the sound is more garage psych than folk-all that convoluted psycho-jargon aside, a fine album; originals now fetch around $800 each, so here's your chance to own this rarity at a sane price. CD $12 SKU:25247

CYNICS- Learn To Lose ( 60s style garage )- Label:GET HIP This is the moody 1993 followup to the critically acclaimed Rock ‘N’ Roll album. With a batch of new material, the band took it’s time in the studio to take the music to the next level. Includes a cool cover of the Lollipop Shoppe’s “You Must Be A Witch CD $10 SKU:10898

DAMON- Song of a Gypsy -DELUXE EDITION WITH BOOKLET DBL CD Label:NOW AGAIN Deluxe reissue of the legendary late '60s Los Angeles psychedelic masterpiece: restored/remastered transfer, pitch/speed corrected for the first time ever. Bonus second disc contains the entirety of Damon's '60s recordings, plus never-before-heard demos. Extensive booklet with dozens of unpublished photos and images—a thorough investigation of this landmark album, through the prism of an extensive interview with Damon. Damon's "Song of a Gypsy" is generally regarded as one of the finest privately-pressed psychedelic rock records and has, for more than twenty years, been one of the most sought after late '60s American rock artifacts in the world, with the scant original copies that exist exchanging hands for thousands of dollars. DIMENSIONS-From All Dimensions- from Acid Archives: “Celebrated Chicago frat-garage LP that's also one of the real rarities of the local mid-1960s LP scene.Label:COLLECTABLES from Acid Archives: “Celebrated Chicago frat-garage LP that's also one of the real rarities of the local mid-1960s LP scene. For those who find the North-East preprock LPs too lowkey this is the remedy - a solid party mood similar to the Raider's best albums with some Stones thrown in. The tape splice in "Mary Lou" derives from the original LP, apparently. A solid dose of mid-60s fun, all covers naturally.” Or, as someone nearer to the band said: “This Chicago 60's group is what Garage Bands are all about. From the high energy Them hit, ‘Gloria’ to the sexy, melodic ‘Mary-Lou,’ this group plays them rockin’ good. I especially liked their cover of the Roger Higginbotham's ‘Hi-Healed Sneakers.’ The Dimensions were not just another garage band. There was something special in the way they played together. They played gigs during the mid 60's in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago at places like The Hut, Green Onion, and the Deep End. Listing to this album takes me back to hot, summer Friday nights, stuffed onto the dance floor with hundreds of hot sweaty teenagers, having a great time listening to great music, dancing and just having fun.” Typical garish Collectables label packaging, including the omnipresent small drill-hole—but long out of print. CD $10 SKU:26701

DOUG SNYDER & BOB THOMPSON - Daily Dance (IGGY/MC5 influenced) -Label:LION After meeting at a Stooges/MC5 concert, drummer Bob Thompson and guitarist Doug Snyder met one fine day in October 1972 in Thompson’s kitchen and bashed out this set of fiery improvisations, seemingly influenced as much by Iggy’s proto-punk moves as John Coltrane’s whole "sheets of sound" ethos; the result is a mythical frenzy of distorted guitar and improvised drums, creating walls of psychedelic noise; its sound is unparalleled for its time, preceding its closest kin, New York's no-wave explosion, by a solid five years. And because of it's lack of pretensions (it was done almost innocently), the record comes off as something, dare we say, a little more "spiritual" than is the norm for such excursions. It is a singular recording, one that mainlines the classic high energy pantheon of the Velvet Underground, Stooges, Pharaoh Sanders, Sonny Sharrock, etc. while anticipating the free jazz/noise/no wave synthesis of groups that would follow in their footsteps. Thompson and Snyder get into some abstruse territory, with Snyder tearing industrial gamelan shapes from his six strings while Thompson uses the guts of his kit as the basis for new tonal alphabets. But it’s all rendered with a strong savage ethos that effortlessly equates monochord rock obliteration with the celestial freedom of Cecil Taylor/John Coltrane, et al., while establishing new territory as advanced as that attained by the most far-reaching visionaries of the rock ‘n’ roll blueprint... still hard to believe that this was recorded in 1972. A major historical unearthing, remastered from the original tapes, and beautifully packaged in a Stoughton paste-on mini-LP jacket, with an informative Obi/U-Card, and an extensive 20-page booklet of liner notes and photos. Produced in conjunction with Cantor Records, who recently made Daily Dance available on vinyl for the first time in 35 years. Includes one bonus track (not included on the LP reissue), which was intended for the original release, but left off at the last moment for time considerations.

"They generate waves of energy through cascading feedback squall and drumbo bash and shimmer. A few tracks will start with something vaguely resembling a 'groove,' before they quickly deteriorate into their lonely Buckeye din." —Dante Carfagna.

"In 1972-73, all of their respective busy-'60s musical experiences coalesced in the birth of this Daily Dance disc you're now sliding into. With Bob the more seasoned pro at this point, his drums carry the careening melodies, while Doug's electric-guitar forays furnish the skronked rhythms, a kind of role-reversal that gives this set its terrific texture. I reviewed the original Daily Dance LP in Creem magazine back in 1977, when I called it, "Abstract, but terribly immediate music... Highly Recommended. There's nothing I could add to that capsule now." —Richard Riegel

(Riegel's writings about music have appeared in Creem, the Village Voice, the Washington Post, and other publications, since the 1970's).

EDEN ROSE - On the Way to Eden (1970 PSYCH SPACE ROCK) Label:Llion It might be easy to think of Eden Rose as simply a first version of famed French progressive band Sandrose. Both bands had the same musicians; both existed at nearly the same moment in time (c. 1970). But Eden Rose is now seen, quite rightly, as something unique, a chimera from the misty past, a time during which the winds of change were blowing on the fixed universe of music. Rules were blown away, stagnant structures were swept aside, and musical conventions emancipated, this freshness and spontaneity the essence of a style that hadn’t yet been formalised.

And man, if my ears don’t deceive me, the main theme from ‘Walking In the Sea’ (before it spins off into Jimi Hendrix territory) sure sounds like a lovely jazzy riff on Serge Gainsbourg’s ‘Je t’aime… moi non plus,’ which had been released the year before this album hit the racks. Two bonus tracks are from the band’s only single that contained non-LP tracks. Booklet has the band’s story in English and French, and is printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy.

FREDDY AND THE FOREGONE CONCLUSIONS - WIGGED OUT SOUNDS (Detroit garage punk Question Mark style) Label:GET HIP ARCHIVE In the hallowed halls of Detroit's garage punk legacy, only one man remains committed to the original doctrine layed out by bands like Question Mark and the Mysterians and the Unrelated Segments. That man is Freddy Fortune. Blasting off with Detroit-area chord mashers the Covingtons in 1988, the mid '90s found Fortune in an auspicious pairing with friend and collaborator Michael Maltese. The result, Fortune and Maltese and the Phabulous Pallbearers, would burn a trail of garage punk genius across the U.S. and abroad, spreading the gospel of lo-fi love to rock 'n' roll fans everywhere. Now Fortune returns, once again bearing the torch for of Detroit garage with a new sound and a new ensemble. Freddy and the Four Gone Conclusion have but one purpose ladies and genlemen, to get you off your seat, on your feet and rockin' outta control. Squares beware -- these guys mean business! Feast your ears into their debut platter running the gamut of chiming 12 String Janglers, Mersey Beat Maulers, Flipped Out Freak-Beat, & Seering Garage Punkers. Not only that folks, the boys teamed up with Del Shannon's original keyboard man Mr. Max Crook and his Musitron, to cut an unissued in the 60's Del original called Stand Up.Finally have you ever pondered deep into the recesses of your little ol' brain, just whatever happened to that Little Black Egg, with the Little White Specks?? Well folks 36 years later the mystery is finally laid to rest right here on this platter. Recorded and Produced by Freddy & the boys, and mixed at Detroit's mecca of garage, Ghetto Recorders with ! Jim Diamond. The album is a non stop powerhouse of 60's fueled Michigan Mayhem. CD $10 SKU:22170

FRIENDS- Fragile ( 60s soft Psych/Folk ) - Label:LION The rarest, and I would dare to say best, folk/psych album from Peter Howell and John Ferdinando, musical brainchildren behind Ithaca, Agincourt, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Tomorrow Come Someday. This fifth Howell/Ferdinando album had just been completed in or around 1974 when the partnership came to an end. Howell had been working at the BBC as a studio manager since 1970 (he'd provided a stiff upper lip voiceover for John Peels Top Gear shows), but he was now offered a position with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, which he accepted, and still holds. An album so incredibly rare (only a single acetate exists), that many have doubted the album’s existence… until now! “Friends” still has the recognizable Ithaca and/or Agincourt sound, with lead vocals mainly by Peter Howell mostly, but with all the same elements and participants, and four tracks featuring the lovely vocals of Ruth Cubbin. A pastoral psychedelic folk stroll in the sunshine, with a few tracks reminiscent of 60's soft psych. Very good!!” CD $10 SKU:21914

INFINITY- Collected Works 1969-70 (UK psych legends) Label:lion Legendary UK psych outfit Infinity formed in 1969 from the ashes of “Chocolate Soup” psych faves the Flies and Cymbaline. The mission: to develop a heavy psychedelic/pop sound, and express it through complex original songs. Thanks to some funky Hammond organ, punchy guitars, and the band’s unique harmonies, Infinity were no run of the mill outfit. Upon their return to mainland England from a residency in Jersey, they joined the high-profile NEMS agency, alongside heavy hitters like Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Soft Machine, and Pretty Things. In late 1969 and early 1970, following support slots with The Searchers and Marmalade, Infinity recorded original material for a proposed album, which was meant to explore “time, space, matter, energy and chicken phal, said in some circles to be so hot in a culinary sense that it's temperature approached infinity,” or so they have said, with tongue-in-cheek, we have to believe. Sadly, they broke up soon after the sessions. The good news is that the band left behind the recordings presented on this disc, which can now be enjoyed in the digital format after the passage of more than four decades! Comes with a 24-page booklet which includes band history, photos, and more, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:11333

KAISERS - Squarehead Stomp (60s garage BEATLES/ZOMBIES style)Label:GET HIP Reissue of the debut album by Scotland’s #1 Beat band...The Kaisers! Classic album featuring equal doses of outstanding mid-’60s Mersey-style covers and brilliant originals all as authentic sounding as you can get! LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS -Shootin' Fire (1969 recordings) -Label:CICADELIC RECORDS (USA) Lightnin' Hopkins recorded over a dozen songs for the Clarity Music Company at the "ACA" Recording Studio in Houston in April of 1969. These songs ranged from new originals, such as 'Born In The Bottom,' 'December 7, 1941,' 'A Rainy Day In Houston,' and 'Stinking Foot,' to oldies such as 'Feel Like Ballin' The Jack,' 'Shake That Thing' and 'Shinin' Moon.' Since the 1970's some of these songs have been released on haphazard compilations with the bass and drums mixed too high, the guitar leads mixed too low, and excessive "reverb" in an attempt to make Lightnin' sound more contemporary. Now for the first time ever the original four track masters have been re-mixed without any of the extraneous studio misjudgments that marred previous releases. As an added bonus, previously unreleased recordings such as 'Movin' On Out When The Saints March In,' 'Old House Torn Down,' 'Mistrust My Baby And She Mistrust Me,' and 'Baby Please Don't Do Me Wrong' are included on this compendium of Lightnin' Hopkins gems. A large selection of never before seen photos, contracts, and documents rounds out this collection of rarities. The net result is 77 minutes of Lightnin' Hopkins in his prime "shootin' fire". •Taken from the original four track masters. •Includes previously unreleased tracks. CD $10 SKU:19764

LOST SOULS--ST mid 60s unknown U.S. Brit Invasion/ psych) SAALE!Label:LION The Lost Souls never released any records, yet the meager recorded evidence that survives indicates that they were one of the finest unknown American groups of the mid-'60s, able to write both catchy British Invasion-type rockers and, in their latter days, experimental psychedelic pieces with unusual tempo changes and song structures. The band were also unusual in their occasional embellishment of the typical period guitar-bass-drums lineup with flute, sax, and mandolin. Although popular in their Cleveland hometown, they broke up in 1968 to attend college. Rhythm guitarist Denny Carleton, who wrote and sang some of their best material, went on to briefly join The Choir, their chief (and more successful) rivals." —Richie Unterberger The music scene in Cleveland in the mid to late 1960’s was ripe with talent: the James Gang with Joe Walsh and Glenn Schwartz, The Choir, Eric Carmen (pre-Raspberries), Glass Harp with Phil Keaggy, the Damnation of Adam Blessing… and the Lost Souls. Of all those bands, only the Lost Souls never released a record. Then again, they were in high school, trying to navigate dress codes and bullies—and playing in front of a couple thousand fans when not suspended. Sure, they lost a battle of the bands at Teen Fair 1968, but it was to the James Gang with Joe Walsh. And somehow it is the Lost Souls who emerge from that time and place with the greatest mystique and some of the most adventurous music, music which few have heard. Lost Souls main songwriter Denny Carleton released a cassette of the band’s original recordings in 1984. It received airplay on hundreds of college and public radio stations in the USA (and around the world), and garnered glowing reviews… and that was it, until now.Not only is this the first time the music of the Lost Souls has been available since that cassette, our Lion Productions edition is the first release for many additional Lost Souls cuts, including alternate versions of key tracks like the insightful ‘Things That Are Important’ and ‘I’m Falling’ (the closest to a hit the band ever had), all taken from the original tapes and carefully mastered. Seven bonus tracks highlight the work of Lost Soul's main songwriter Denny Carleton (one-time member of The Choir, and more surprisingly, punk legends the Pagans); selections by The Choir, Moses, Milk and Carleton, many in all possible low-fi glory, recorded on various 4-Track devices, ranging from power-pop to grimy garage.•Whopping 32-page booklet has the full story of the band and info on the recordings by Carlton
•Includes a multitude of unseen photos from his personal archive
•Carefully remastered from the original tapes (+ the occasional post-Lost Souls 45 single)
•”One of the great lost groups of the 60's.” —Option Magazine CD $12 SKU:20365

NERVEBREAKERS - We Want Everything ( 70s Texas punk) - Label:GET HIP Hailing from Dallas, the Nervebreakers first got together in 1973, but didn’t take off until the mid-’70s punk movement started to affect most larger urban areas of the US. PAYBACKS - Harder and Harder (real-deal Detroit R&R ) Label:GET HIP The Paybacks are real-deal Detroit R&R with capital letters and still stand as one of the city's best kept secrets. Fueled by the rocker-with-a-heart-of-gold vocals of Wendy Case, on ‘Harder And Harder ’, the Paybacks belt out nearly a dozen honest and passionate songs loaded with hooks. Their’s no denying that Wendy voice sounds like a combination of Wendy O. Williams and Joan Jett as she belts out eleven strong songs of sonic brash pop with blazing hard rock riffs and some firey guitar leads. The Paybacks are equal parts swagger and stagger as they plug away on melodic rockers like "Bright Side" and the glittery blues anthem "Jumpy." The scorching riff rockers like "Superrider" and "Scotch Love" assert how powerful and unrelenting this Motor City quartet can be and the soulfully executed ballad "Can You Drive?" suggests the band can do more than raise hell. ‘Harder And Harder’ sounds like a sonic combustion of The Runayways, the MC5 and the Dirtbombs played with a ton of heart and soul. And by calling this sonic firecracker ‘Harder and Harder’, the Paybacks will never be accused of false advertising. CD $10 SKU:21820

PENTHOUSE 5-The World is Love ( rare mid sixties TEXAS garage psych) -Label:COLLECTIBLES Hailing from the Dallas suburb Oak Cliff, The Penthouse 5 had its heyday in 1966-'67, when the band recorded a number of self-penned tunes and released two 45s. PRIESTS-TALL TALES (fuzzed out dark Cramps meets Cynics vibe)Label:GET HIP Rochester, NY’s Priests began a career in music inspired by the seedier, darker almost ungodly aspects of life. Sonically influenced by the classic rock and roll sounds of yesteryear, the band forges ahead, creating the music of tomorrow in their own unique way. The band members seem to feed off of each other, which depending on moods, chemicals or mental stability can be incredibly mesmerizing or cryptically haunting. The Priests tend to break it down to the simplest level and build from there. Hypnotic guitar lines, fuzzed-out organ and tribalistic back beat mixed in with a dark Cramps meets Cynics vibe, build the foundations of their unusual and original sounds. CD $10 SKU:21819

RAINY DAY SAINTS-Saturday’s Haze-Cleveland psych, garage punk, pure pop ,prog)Label:GET HIP You don’t have to listen to the Rainy Day Saints for long to surmise that their heady amalgam of psychedelia, garage punk, pure pop and prog-rock is the product of astute music fandom.Rainy Day Saints were born out of frustration, heartache, love and power chords. Setting controls for the heart of the sun is multi instrumentalist Dave Swanson. He and his cohorts parade along the rock and roll route oblivious to the fact that the scenery along the way has most definitely changed. In other words, they do what they want, when they want and for no one else but themselves. Why else would they reference Hawkwind, Roxy Music, Crazy Elephant and Johnny Thunders in one fell swoop! Selfish? Perhaps, but that is not their concern. It’s all about the melodies, the harmonies, the loud guitars, the driving bass, the bashing drums and the snarling saxophone. Things like : “pristine electrified paisley underground jangle”,“a nastier version of The Move and the harder side of the Dream Syndicate”, “an elegant almost British classicism of hazy, psychedelicate pop-rock swirls”, “ Cheap Trick meets The Nazz meets early Flaming Lips”, “reminds me of the Monkees”, and our favorite, “ Mr. Swanson is one talented motherfucker” are just a few of things that have been said about Rainy Day Saints. RARE BIRD -Somebody’s Watching (60s Brit prog) -Label:TALKING ELEPHANT Rare Bird were an English progressive rock band, formed in 1969, who released five studio albums. “Somebody's Watching” was the bands fourth album, released in 1973. It includes their classic interpretation of Ennio Morricone's theme to ‘A Fistful of Dollars.’ Rare Bird is a very interesting group. They started out as progressive soul meets hard rock unit, not unlike Spooky Tooth. By the time Rare bird recorded “Somebody's Watching,” they had evolved into a much funkier groove. The title track has a Steely Dan like precision. The is some exciting funky prog. And the show stealer is the closing track, ‘Dollars’: Rare Bird created a funk rock monster jam that many take hands down over Babe Ruth’s ‘The Mexican’ jam, also an homage to Ennio Morricone's classic. RED KRAYOLA - God Bless the-- CD with booklet Label:CHARLY "The Ground-Breaking 1966 album. Re-mastered by SONIC BOOM. 2CD edition with both the Stereo & the first re-issue of the Mono version. 16 Page Booklet with previously unseen images. Deluxe Media Book - Limited Edition." A low-fi psychedelic classic. With its weird time signatures, loopy bass and drums, Mayo Thompson is a kind of Syd Barrett by way of Texas. Their previous album is a loud, freaked out classic. This album influenced bands as diverse as Galaxie 500 (who covered the catchy ‘Victory Garden’), Spacemen 3, Gastro Del Sol and in spirit if not sound, many of the Chicago bands that involve John McEntire (The Sea and Cake, Tortoise) and many others that record for the Drag City label. Second album by the American experimental rock band Red Krayola, released in May 1968 by the International Artists record label. “‘God Bless the Red Krayola and All Who Sail with It’ bears precious little resemblance to anything else that appeared at the time; it would take a few decades of post-punk experimentalism before Mayo Thompson's vision would have a truly suitable context, though the album's playful undercurrent goes a long way toward making these tiny shards of sound go down easily for the musically open-minded.” The Spin Alternative Record Guide called the album "superb," describing it as "small songs full of quiet terror and acoustic confusion.” Media book packaging is very nice.Along with the Elevators, The Red Crayola were the mainstays of the International Artists label, and are recognised in Psychedelic circles as producing some of the strangest music ever (combining elements of avant-garde and garage with wild, experimental freak-outs and chilling stripped down songs which sounded unlike anything from the 1960s). RESONARS - LUNAR KIT(for fans of the Byrds, Love, the Easybeats, Moby Grape and the Hollies) Label:GET HIP Truly brilliant! Since 1999’s Bright and Dark, Resonars guitarist Matt Rendon has refined his one-man band methodology so that the illusion of a four-piece combo is practically impenetrable. On this, their third LP, Rendon seems to have absorbed every significant guitar-style and sound between George Harrison’s Rick of ‘63 and Peter Green’s Les Paul of ‘69. But those are just the building blocks. Along with the spot-on harmonies, you might hear various echoes–but these are not pastiches. They are truly classic rock n’ roll tunes!

There’s the expected: the title track, an echo-laden, jangly folk-rock number, here powered by Moon-style drumming along with a raft of soaring harmonies and augmented with a touch more distortion on the guitar. Then there’s the peppy Hollies-like “Under Garden” and “Retro Rocket,” a headlong rush into A2/MC5 territory. “Little Spoiled Baby” is the first sign of any facility toward “ye olde” bloozy boogie. You also get both sides of the “Floor Lamp Eyes” 7-inch released in 2000 via Star Time (ST-8).

Lunar Kit is an elixir of the finest ingredients, able to make a blind man see, or even, possibly, drag you out of you pit of depression. Dig in! CD $10 SKU:24735

RESONARS NONETHELESS BLUE (for fans of the Byrds, Love, the Easybeats, Moby Grape and the Hollies) Label:GET HIP On Nonetheless Blue, Arizona’s The Resonars continue to mine the field of top-shelf psychedelic pop. This, their fourth album, is probably their strongest, as the lead vocals of Matt Rendon are more self-assured than ever.

The songs are eminently catchy, and many of them could have been found on a series like Highs In the Mid ’60s without anybody finding out that they didn’t belong. Songs like “Nonetheless Blue” and “Sinking Is Slow” would have made perfect ’60s garage records, the kind that hit No. 1 in the band’s small-town charts but never got beyond that (a sad story of lots of classic records of that day).

Fans of The Grip Weeds will especially love “Your Concern,” “No Problem At All,” and “As a Matter of Fact,” as they feature that band’s signature thick harmonies and West Coast psychedelic vibe. In a likeminded but lighter vein is “If Darkness Comes Too Fast,” with an easy vibe not unlike that of the iconic pop/psych band, The Millennium CD $10 SKU:24736

THREE HEADED DOG-Hound of Hades (UK 70s underground)-Label:AUDIO ARCHIVES THREE HEADED DOG-Hound of Hades A mysterious three-piece from Birmingham, Three-Headed Dog played underground hard-rock, clearly influenced by other contemporaries from the Birmingham rock scene such as Judas Priest and Black Sabbath and Wishbone Ash. Three-Headed Dog were among the more obscure acts playing a circuit which included bands like Iron Claw, Necromandus and Flying Hat Band. Before disappearing in the mist of time, they left behind an ultra rare demo tape - recorded in 1973 - which included a couple of cover versions from Wild Turkey and Edgar Broughton Band along with self-penned material. This CD also features a few bonus tracks from other rare bands of the era discovered in the studio's archives. CD $12 SKU:24869
