LOONS -In The Past (GARAGE PSYCH)Label:THERMIONIC One of two 7"s released by Mike Stax's long-running garage-psychedelic band in 1997, the second year of their existence and still a couple of years before a full-length. Features the original line-up with Eric Bacher (Tell Tale Hearts) and John Chilson (The Hoods). Side 1 pairs the classic US garage composition (made famous by We The People and The Chocolate Watchband) along with a band original. Side 2 is a brooding cover of The Humane Society's "Knock Knock" (a Pebbles and Nuggets fave). Sides play at 33.3 RPM 45 RPM $8 SKU:26418
AEROBLUS -ST ( heavy rock/proto metal 1977)Label:HRC "By rights, the band should be called Aeroblues, but the band's name was deliberately misspelled, to give it a 'Rioplatense' touch, by this heavy rock/proto metal band formed in 1977 by Argentine guitarist Norberto "Pappo" Napolitano in Brazil with excellent Brazilian drummer, Júnior; and bassist Alejandro Medina (ex-member of Billy Bond y La Pesada and Manal. Stylistically, dare one say 'samey'—Heavy Blues and/or Proto Metal with not too much variation. But still, it is truly great, and the band has a power that unavoidably moves you, if you can tell a good from a mediocre band in this genre. In case you are wondering, Aeroblus belongs on the list of the good ones. The Aeroblus album shows-off groove and sophistication at the same time; note the strength in the Alejandro Medina's voice, which is quite spectacular. Pappo's voice lacks the same grit and stamina, yet on the other hand he was a fine composer and a fantastic guitarist; his lyrics are obscure and semi-philosophical at times, which suits the apocalyptic sound. ANONYMOUS/ J. RIDER -Inside the Shadow- (mid 70s melodic rock rarity) Label:AETHER Straightforward, melodic rock has never been so good. One of the best mid 1970's rock records out there, with nary a weak composition in sight. "The great irony? This private press album defines what mainstream rock should have been. Nothing pretentiously eccentric here, just excellent melodies and engaging songwriting throughout.” — Gerrard Winstanley. After the demise of Sixties garage psych legends Sir Winston & the Commons, writer/ vocalist/guitarist Ron Matelic reformed his band into a jangly swirling blend of the Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, and Buffalo Springfield with male and female vocals, electric 12-string guitar, lead guitar, bass, driving percussion and outstanding original songwriting. The sole Anonymous album, "Inside the Shadow,” was released in 1976 in a pressing of 300 copies. A second album of original material was recorded in 1977 after the band's name changed to J. RIDER, but it remained unreleased until a vinyl issue of 375 copies in the mid-90's. Both excellent LPs are now available on this one compact disc. Liner notes and band history by Ron Matelic himself. CD $12 SKU:27137

BLACKOUT - ST (groovy 60s garage)-Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) At last a reissue of a great album that features some of the cheesiest organ sounds (meant in a good way) carved into wax in the 1960’s; groovy and bizarre Hammond runs are present and accounted for, residing happily with the smart songs, the fine guitar playing, and the gravelly vocals of the band’s singers (male and female), on the only album this Polish band ever saw released, just before they changed their name (to Breakout), and their sound (to progressive rock); they started as a beat band, albeit one addicted to the dark side of beat as demonstrated to them in person by Eric Burdon & the Animals; they developed their own weird sound, which was dubbed “Big Beat” by someone clever—a term that still exists in the former Eastern Bloc to describe this sort of offbeat (so to speak), wigged-out and intense home grown music; after some radio success, Blackout apparently recorded a slew of singles, some of which appear here as bonus tracks; twenty songs in all, mostly written by underground novelist and poet Bogdan Loebl, plus liner notes that include an interview with band-leader Tadeusz Nalepa as well as an overview of the recording industry in Poland in the 1960’s. It’s not every day you get historical background and interesting music in the same package! CD $12 SKU:18953
BLUES TRAIN -ST (1969 Chicago driving hard blues with great vocals)Label:GEAR FAB Ultra rare and hardly ever heard before Canadian blues band that took the hard driving Chicago Blues sound, spicing it up with riving fuzz and wahwah guitars. Pounding hammonds, blowing leslies, screaming harmonica and great vocals on top of it. Perhaps one of the best hard blues sounds you've ever heard. CD $10 SKU:21713
BODO MOLITOR- Hits Internacionales (ultra-rare 60s Mexican psych holy grail for collectors paper-sleeve mini-LP replica. ) -Label:VAM MEXICO Official master-tape reissue of this ultra-rare Mexican garage psych record that's a holy grail for collectors. Globe-trotting artist Bodo Molitor may have been born in Germany, but he’ll forever be associated with the psychedelic scene in Mexico. In addition to creating the zoomorphic art for his own bizarre album, he also created the psychedelic art for the Kaleidoscope album, for La Libre Expresion, and for his brother Reinhold’s solo album. As for “Hits Internacionales”, it has all the ambience and psychedelic delirium of the time, full of devastating fuzz and wacked out rhythms. And then there is Bodo’s raspy and savage voice. Impressive. As Antonio Malcara says in his book "Catologo subjetivo y segregacionista del Rock Mexicano", this LP and that of Kaleidoscope are the two most important and representative pieces of Mexican garage rock-psychedelia. Collectors offer thousands of dollars to be able to get an original copy of “Hits Internacionales” in good condition CD $10 SKU:15120
BRIGG- ST (1973 folk tinged psych)Label:GEAR FAB Brigg, a rural Pennsylvania Folk-Tinged Psychedelic band released this rare gem in 1973. First legitimate and authorized version by the band members themselves. CD $10 SKU:24727
BWANA- ST(1970 funk/psych rare-groove)Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM (Greece) YIKES! Cover way too controversial to show. Didnt know about it or i might not have ordered it. Google if you want.Reappearance on CD (with tasteless original cover art intact) of fantastic latin funk/psych rare-groove special from around 1970; as latin mavens Dusty Groove say, it’s “an insanely wonderful bit of Latin funk! The groove is super heavy, and falls somewhere in between NuYorican soul and Chicano Power rock—with a sound that's pretty close to Black Sugar, but a little bit more psychedelic, due to the heavy guitars and keyboards in the grooves. Hard congas take the lead on most of the tracks—especially the cut ‘Chapumbambe’, which starts with a nice breakbeat.” We say: astral-planar Latin jams, with blazing guitar and organ, laid down over hot funk/psych grooves; leads off with the eight-minute runaway train 'Tema de Bwana'; what's next, you wonder? why it's the intricate twin-guitar progressive call and response jam of 'La Patada'; the rest gets better from there, with songs that shift and flow until they hit an acid freakout point—check out the end of 'Chapumbambe', or the second half of the thirteen-plus minute soul/psych style rave up 'Lolita' that closes the album. CD $10 SKU:19051
CLIMAX -Gusano Mecánico (70s Bolivian power trio /psych masters) -Label:Retro Remasters Plus Bolivian rock band of the late 1960's to mid 1970's. They started as a beat, largely covers, band mixing hard rock, blues and psychedelic influences, issuing a few singles. They went through many styles during their history, later reinventing themselves as an experimental progressive rock outfit with the album "Gusano Mecánico".
The Climax LP is widely regarded as a pinnacle of Bolivian prog CD $14 SKU:20731
COLOURS- S/T (60s psych Pop )- Label:World Psychedelia A reissue of the 1968 self-titled album from this psychedelic pop combo, whose liner notes claim the band "have the crystalline sharpness of the Beatles before they turned acid." Orchestrations, disturbing time and key changes, and sitar drone are all added to the mix. Includes the standouts "Bad Day At Black Rock Baby," the commune-song "Brother Lou's Love Colony"--later covered by Moon--and the eerie "Cataleptic." CD $10 SKU:26087

EDEN ROSE - On the Way to Eden (1970 PSYCH SPACE ROCK) Label:Llion It might be easy to think of Eden Rose as simply a first version of famed French progressive band Sandrose. Both bands had the same musicians; both existed at nearly the same moment in time (c. 1970). But Eden Rose is now seen, quite rightly, as something unique, a chimera from the misty past, a time during which the winds of change were blowing on the fixed universe of music. Rules were blown away, stagnant structures were swept aside, and musical conventions emancipated, this freshness and spontaneity the essence of a style that hadn’t yet been formalised.
And man, if my ears don’t deceive me, the main theme from ‘Walking In the Sea’ (before it spins off into Jimi Hendrix territory) sure sounds like a lovely jazzy riff on Serge Gainsbourg’s ‘Je t’aime… moi non plus,’ which had been released the year before this album hit the racks. Two bonus tracks are from the band’s only single that contained non-LP tracks. Booklet has the band’s story in English and French, and is printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy.

FRANKIE DYMON-Let It Out: Poems In Words And MusicLabel:GERMANOFON Described in one place as “Psychedelic soul-brother Krautrock,” this is an incredible Kraut/funk meeting (1971) of US expatriate Dymon and the cream of the German Rock scene. Dymon, probably better known in film circles for his role as "Black Power Militant" in Godard's Sympathy For The Devil and as director of the super-obscure Death May Be Your Santa Claus, mellifluously rants on subjects such as past sexual conquests, racial injustice, and pot-smoking etiquette. The album was a kind of 'project' record, led by Frank Dostal and Achim Reichel. Reichel wrote most of the songs and produced the album (engineering was by Konrad “Conny” Plank). Most of Reichel's then backing band also took part in the recordings: Rolf Kohler (bass), Norbert Jacobsen (clarinet), Lemmie Lembrecht (percussion) and Helmut Franke (percussion). Additional musicians were Wolfgang "Zabba" Lindner (drums, ex-Wind), Peter Hecht (piano, from Lucifer's Friend), Elga Blask (vocals) and Olaf Casalich (congas). The LP comprised a great variety of styles—those of you who know the early Achim Reichel albums will know what to expect here! There are certainly many tracks to enjoy, like ‘Aftermyth,’ an 11-minute track with manipulated electric guitar and awkward anti-war and anti-racism lyrics. Many of the tracks had very unusual arrangements. The psychedelic cover art, recalling the Ikarus album on Plus, is also notable. In the same year, Dostal and Reichel also made another complex, but vastly different project album together, this time as Wonderland Band. First-ever reissue, lyric booklet included.CD $10 SKU:26196
GOLIATH -ST (Lousville Vol 9 1970 Crosby STill Nash style)Label:GEAR FAB The Ninth Installment of our Louisville Music Series. Another great band whose only studio recordings lay dormant until now. From 1970, this bands sound is very reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Allman Brothers, and Traffic. Great vocal harmonies, coupled with terrific swirling guitars and the ever present sound of the B3 Hammond organ make this one great
release!! CD $10 SKU:21716
GONZALEZ, WALLY -Wally on the Road 70s (heavy acid blues psych)-Label:VICOR ENTERTAINMENT (Philippines) First off, don’t be deceived by the title—this is a studio album all the way; altogether a different sort of album from “Tunog Pinoy”, thudding out of the gate with the monumental ‘Kailan Pa Kaya’, syrupy treated vocals, John Bonham-esque drumming and all; dig too, if you will, the Zeppelin vibe of ‘Screw’ before sailing into the trippy, acoustic ‘Tattong Araw’, or the legendary ‘Wally’s Blues’; more effects than the earlier record, sounding more like newfound recordings from the late 1960’s than a mid-70’s record—this has more psychedelic credentials than most reissues which get that label bestowed upon them; you might say that while “Tunog Pinoy” is classic rock in the best sense, this is classic psychedelia, in the best sense. CD $10 SKU:18972

IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO - Serio 2222 - W 12 PAGE BOOKLET ( Raw-edged heavy rock JIMMY PAGE STYLE ) -Label:LION Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck.Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible.

IN THE SUMMER OF THE MUSHROOM HONEY -ST (DREAMY PSYCH) Label:AETHER Excellent dreamy improvised psychedelia. CD $10 SKU:27133

MARCUS (Rusty Evans) - Original LP and Outtakes DBL CD (60s psych w 32 bonus tracks and 20 PAGE BOOKLET) - Label:LION fter the release of the Freak Scene album, psychedelic guru Rusty Evans made his way from NYC to San Francisco, a geographic shift that resulted in work for the legendary San Francisco Sound label, producing bands such as It’s A Beautiful Day, Tripsichord, and Indian Puddin’ and Pipe; it also led to a drastic shift in style from the psychedelic "happening" of the Deep album for Cameo Parkway and the raga rock of the Freak Scene album for Columbia. And so it came to pass that Evans reclaimed his birth name of Marcus, and recorded a very mellow LP in 1969 for Kinetic Records, a label formed by the Kinetic Playground Ballroom in Chicago. Like much of Marcus’ work, the album is a fascinating relic of a particular time and place, in this instance San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district in the post-Summer of Love era. The Marcus LP is richly orchestrated psychedelic-folk music, with a pronounced Donovan and/or Tim Harden flavor to it, something that did not escape its creator. The mood is dreamy, the songs reflective, the voice vibrato, the album a yin to the yang of the Freak Scene "Psychedelic Psoul" album which precedes it by two years. So we have the hot and aggressive Freak Scene album contrasted—some might say perfectly balanced—by the diffuse and tranquil Marcus album two years later. To our mind, further proof of the excellence of the artistic mind behind both albums. This is the first actual re-issue of the vastly under-rated Marcus album since 1969; the only previous CD edition used alternate takes and not the album versions. Our fulsome edition indulges any completionist fantasies we might harbor, as it also serves up thirty-two bonus tracks, nearly two hours of alternate takes and acoustic demos (plus a few non-album tracks). There are guitar/voice demos recorded several months before Kinetic came along and offered a deal; other home demos have Marcus with acoustic guitar, bass and cello. There are guitar/voice demos were recorded six to eight months before Kinetic came along and offered a deal; other home demos have Marcus with acoustic guitar, bass and cello. There are also abundant demo studio versions, some of tremendous quality. The end result is (apparently) our first "interactive" release, as you can create your own ideal version of the Marcus album. Budget-priced double disc package includes a 20-page booklet, with an introduction by Marcus, his incredible history in music, as well as lyrics. Printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:14223

NEUTRAL SPIRITS -ST (1972 private press psych jewel)Label:GEAR FAB One of those privately pressed jewels from 1972, with a great weird garagy PSYCHEDELIC sound, we are all hunting after. Doors-inspired music with great fuzz sound and distorted guitars. Their songs range from songs of protest such as 'Speaking Freeley' and Flying' to the 7 minute fuzz-fest 'Flower'. Only 500 originals were pressed 400 of which were destroyed in a fire, so remaining originals are very hard to come by and go for the 4 digits in bucks, and still hardly ever pop up. Featuring nice photos and story of the band. CD $10 SKU:21724

REICHEL, ACHIM- AR5 Autovision (70s Legendary underground freak -Label:GERMANOFON: Legendary underground freak from the '70s German head scene.” (Freak Emporium) the label says: "From 1974. Achim Reichel’s fifth excursion with echo-guitar, a collection of group and solo recordings, would be his last studio album in the mind-blowing style. Available again with improved packaging." and a little bio for good measure: German singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Achim Reichel enjoyed a long and varied career that began during the beat boom of the ’60s, when he founded the Rattles, and carried on well into the next millennium, by which time he was still recording albums and performing large-scale rock concerts. Born on January 28, 1944, in Wentorf bei Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Reichel began his music career in 1960, when he, as a singer/guitarist, formed the Rattles with bassist Herbert Hildebrandt in Hamburg. The band, along with the Lords, proved one of Germany’s leading beat bands of the day, for instance touring England with the Rolling Stones in 1963 and touring Germany with the Beatles in 1966. Reichel left the band in 1966 after several albums, including Twist im Star-Club Hamburg (1964), Liverpool Beat (1965), and Hurra! Die Rattles Kommen (1966), and subsequently entered the Bundeswehr (i.e., the German armed forces). Upon Reichel’s departure from the military, he formed another band, Wonderland, whose debut single, “Mocow” (1968), was a Top 15 hit. Next he formed the experimental solo project A.R. & Machines, which debuted with Die Grüne Reise (1971) and followed with a succession of Krautrock-fashioned albums: Echo (1972), 3 (1972), 4 (1973), and Autovision (1974). CD $10 SKU:19033
ROCK ISLAND - ST (Chicago 70s psych ) Label:GEAR FAB Their self-titled debut album from 1970. This Chicago-based rock group provides a lot of hard driving rock, psychedelic, acid and R&B sounds that were so prevalent during the 11/6/2019turn of that decade. They would later morph into Rain, who released another LP in 1972. Several members of the band would later go on to play with Paul McCartney!!" CD $10 SKU:11176
SAN UL LIM - 3 (1977 psych power pop garage) - Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) The liner notes say, “they wanted to mNake this album as Western top class Hard-Rock music. This time they didn’t use organ and used only guitars, drums and bass as a power rock trio, and also made songs in a Hard rock style (songs which were not ballad style or popular).” But, of course, the result is not a “Hard Rock” record at all. Maybe that’s what we love best about San Ul Lim: they were complete failures—they never managed to create the sound they were trying so hard to make... and this album is no exception. True, the record starts out with throat-shredding vocals and a guitar sound that is suddenly ever-present, fuzzed-out, and ominous sounding; but by track two, we already have dreamy melodies, (supported by that fuzz guitar and ending with some punk wailing); track three is pleasant and lilting—very much not Hard Rock; track four is a nine-minute slow-burn; and then you have the almost 19-minute track that was side two of the original LP—droning fuzz guitar psychedelia at it’s maniacal best for six minutes, before what sounds like a prolonged theremin solo (a keyboard?); then we’re back into a ‘White Light, White Heat’ groove, with imaginative fuzz guitar soloing to take us home. Korean rock specialists called the first three San Ul Lim albums “the demo tape triple collection”. These are regarded as the band’s best recordings “because they made most songs on these albums between 1971 and 1975 (before their debut). Therefore the songs had their early originality and creativity.” CD $10 SKU:19025

THIRD ESTATE, THE-Years Before The Wine & AGONISTES (1976 psych )DBL Label:LION Third Estate’s “Years Before the Wine” is an ambitious and intricate psychedelic concept album from 1976 about the French Revolution (!) which blends warm Southern summer sounds (the band were from Baton Rouge, Louisiana) with baroque song structures. Never fear, the serious subject matter is no match for the strong songwriting and light, flowing music. Stunning vocals from Fae Ficklin on the title track are lovely, but even without them this album would richly deserve its status as a psychedelic classic. Stark, intimate production, with tasty fuzz guitar, backwards tape-loop soundscapes and beautiful treated acoustic guitar, puts one in mind of the Ithaca/Agincourt/Friends trilogy from England. The sound of exploration is evident everywhere, as the band spreads its wings, and glorious harmonies flow forth. The previously unreleased album recorded as Agonistes (1973) shows that the later recordings were no fluke—it can stand alone as one of the most beguiling folk/psych albums we’ve ever heard. Additional bonus tracks include singles and home demos. WHISKEY HOWL- ST(Obscure 1972 heavy Blues)Label:PACEMAKER First time available on CD for this obscure Canadian funk-laden heavy blues rocker, originally released in 1972 by Warner Brothers. Whiskey Howl remains one of the great success stories of the early CanCon era. They were a blues band that enjoyed a large following, appeared on legendary concert bills and yet, they left only one (memorable) studio album. The record quickly garnered rave reviews and airplay on FM stations across Canada. And that was that. The LP took some time to come out; by the time it was released in 1972, the band had broken up. Anyone who likes driving harmonica blues should have this in their collection. The LP took a little while to come out after its recording; by the time it was released in 1972, the band had broken up. Canadians all tell me “What a band!”: John Witmer, vocals; Michael Pickett, harp and vocals; Richard Fruchtman, bass and vocals; Dave Morrison, guitar and vocals and Wayne Wilson, drums. Even though they are virtually forgotten, this has got to be one of the best jumpin' blues albums out there, with versions of Memphis Slim’s ‘Mother Earth,’ Louis Jordan’s ‘Caldonia’ and ‘Let The Good Times Roll’ and B.B. King’s ‘Early In The Morning.’ It also featured an oddity in those days of electric Chicago blues, an a capella version of Leadbelly’s ‘Rock Island Line.’ There are good originals on the album as well, and one can only speculate as to what might have happened if the band’s momentum could have been maintained. Sadly, some of the original members are no longer with us to see the LP’s return to existence. CD $10 SKU:26201

PUISSANCE --the Power of 13 + 2 (1971 Amazing sessions by the cream of underground French prog and psych bandS)Label:LION LION Amazing sessions by the cream of underground French prog and psych bands, first released in 1971 on Thélème, a boutique label owned by Magma bassist and Barclay Records manager Laurent Thibault. When Thibault founded Thélème, he wanted to set up a prestige outfit. He had this in mind when he set out to fulfill his ambition of presenting a panorama of the French rock scene by gathering the best groups in France together on one double-album, to be recorded at the legendary Chateau d'Hérouville studio, live in the courtyard with no overdubs. Thibault had hoped that labels would allow their best acts to appear. Philips offered Magma (the version of ‘Mekanik Kommando’ appearing on Puissance is the first ever conceived or recorded by the band) and Catherine Ribeiro; Barclay allowed Alain Markusfeld to participate; Le Chant du Monde let Voyage appear. The band Catharsis said yes; so did Contrepoint, discovered by Magma’s René Garber. Thélème artists included Ergo Sum, MOR, Zabu, and Solitude. Two guests from America were recommended by Le Chant du Monde: folk-singers Roger Mason and Steve Waring. And happily Spectre, a band featuring legendary Hérouville engineer Dominique Blanc-Francart, brought the monster prog jazz funk synth madness of 'Arkham'. Brilliant!•Features titans such as Magma, Catherine Ribeiro, Alain Markusfeld, Dominique Blanc-Francart, and more!•One-time pressing of 500x copies•Housed in a textured gatefold jacket•Four-page color insert has historical notes + band info + rare photo COMP LP $22 SKU:26836
AWESOME MACHINE - GOD DAMN RARE 2 (STONER ROCK)Label:OZIUM The spirit of Kyuss lives on years after their breakup, and Sweden has churned out a number of quality stoner rock bands in recent times, such as Mushroom River Band, We, Spiritual Beggars, and others. The Awesome Machine was another such band, and one of the better late-period Kyuss soundalikes to be heard in some time. A lot of stoner bands seem to stick to the tried and true, and in that respect The Awesome Machine was no different, but they were excellent at what they did. This second volume again includes outtakes, rare tracks and demos. LP $20 SKU:26137
BABY SHAKES- -CAUSE A SCENE (danceable junkshop glam)Label:LIL' CHEWY Baby Shakes' long playing album 'Cause A Scene' is set in searing white-hot guitar riff, tough, danceable junkshop glam inspired melody and rhythmic drive glazed with lush, dreamy three part harmony. The band's fourth full-length album, shows what could easily be a contradiction of influences as diverse as Slade, Rubettes, Ramones, Bangles, Berry and the Beatles with increasing nerve and nuance. Baby Shakes' music and lyrics in particular manage to be brash, fun and forceful yet never compromise a soft innocence. LP $18 SKU:25915

BLACK SUN ENSEMBLE ST- ABSOLUTELY stunning psych Label:RTAI/LION Their first album, reissued for the very first time with the tracks exactly as they were on the original 1985 issue on Pyknotic.
"It is difficult to think of a band that has ever produced psychedelic music that sounded even remotely like the original Black Sun's" —Byron Coley
"ABSOLUTELY stunning psych LP, first released in limited edition in 1985 on Pyknotic label and reissued on CD in 2000 by Camera Obscura (instantly sold out). Stunning fuzzy guitar, Eastern tunes, chanting, some horns here and there.... absolutely spacey psychedelic music." —Mutant Sounds
"Black Sun Ensemble offers sensual, aerial, sonic magic carpet rides laced with the steady flavor of India that will take you high above the Himalayas in your head. But this isn't plinky, incense-burning, catatonic hammock music, nor does it smell of hippie backwash and flashbacks (thought the music can be hypnotic and psychedelic). You can see forever with the Black Sun Ensemble." -CMJ New Music Report LP $26 SKU:25866

JAHN, LOTHAR -Dreams of 75 (1975 psych/Krautrock) hand numbered blue swirlLabel:LION Lothar Jahn’s "February '75” single was released by the German label Sound Records in 1977. It was a very unusual record, somewhere between psychedelic, folk, and Krautrock. It was reviewed thus on Discogs: “A mysterious journey through Cosmic Psych Folk Kraut, whatever you may call it. Fantastic, from beginning to end. Another Kraut on 45 milestone.” The newly recorded album, “Dreams of ’75,” is an extended riff on the original single, taking that smaller vision as a starting point and then launching into a weirder and wilder psychedelic/progressive stereoscopic headspace than was evident (or possible) on the original single. Lion exclusive: 150x hand-numbered copies on Transparent Blue w/Black Swirl vinyl•Comes with an 8-page booklet giving Jahn’s thoughts on his life and the dreams which provoked this album.•Includes the bonus track ‘Merseburger,’ recorded with Olaf Casalich, the singer of famed German band Ougenweide. KING BEE -ST (1979-81 unreleased and live )SAALELabel:DOOMTOWN SOUNDS More than 40 YEARS IN THE MAKING! Doomtown Sounds, in collaboration with Toody Cole and the surviving members of the band, is proud to present the release of the King Bee album, containing a dozen unreleased studio and live songs recorded between 1977 and 1981. King Bee was Fred Cole's late '70s band, and their music occupied an important position in Fred's development as a songwriter. This often-overlooked part of Fred's career saw him combining elements of his '60s roots with this new sound called punk rock, and it was this synthesis of styles which led to the Rats, and, eventually, to the creation of Dead Moon. These missing gems are being made available here for the first time ever, recovered from archived tapes, carefully restored and mastered. Compiled from master reels and cassette tapes that had been stored in a box for more than 40 years, this album contains more than a dozen unreleased studio and live tracks, as well as the three tracks from the band's 1978 7" EP. LARD FREE- I’m Around About Midnight (1975) GATEFOLD 180 gram SAALE Label:REPLICA Recorded in Paris during a three-day session and released in 1975, Lard Free’s second LP, “I’m Around About Midnight”, encounters the band with a significantly different line up. This time, joining Gilbert Artman, is Antoine Duvernet on alto sax and flute, Alain Audat on synthesizer, and none other than Richard Pinhas - at the same moment he was making waves in Heldon - taking the helm on guitar and playing counterpoint to the drummer in a brilliant series of explorations. Launching in with a droning, synth driven cosmic soundscape - “Violez l'Espace de Son Réfrigérant” - that is pregnant with sounds of North Africa and the Middle East, the band then dives into a unique form of rhythmic prog that peppers a heady amount of humor into its brooding gloom, that shifts and evolves into different manifestations over the album’s length. Arguably the most fascinating and distinct of these are three works that stand slightly apart and establish the album’s creative range; “Tatkooz à Roulette” - primarily constructed from appreciating synths that foreshadows entire movements of electronic music that wouldn’t emerge until the 1990s - “Does East Bakestan Belong to Itself”, a wild gesture built around minimalist vibraphone lines, and “Even Silence Stops When Trains Come”, a work for piano and synth that makes interesting nods to the continuous music of Lubomyr Melnyk and works like Hans Otte's The Book of Sounds. Diverse, ambitious, and an endlessly thrilling listen, Lard Free’s “I’m Around About Midnight” is a true wonder of French electronic experimentation and prog. Replica Records’ brand-new reissue beautifully reproduces the original 1973 gatefold cover, and is pressed on 180 gr. vinyl in a limited edition of 500. Wild and not to be missed! LP $22 SKU:25459
