Dzyan's classic second and third LP's together and complete on one CD, with all original album cover art! "When the [original] band eventually disintegrated, Reinhard Karwatky was the only member remaining. So, he drafted in jazzers Eddy Marron (ex-Jochen Brauer Sextet and Vita Nova) and drummer Lothar Scharf (from Virgo), who didn't stay long, and was in turn replaced by the much more original percussionist Peter Giger. On Time Machine [1973] they played, to quote Eddy Marron: 'in the Kriegel-Doldinger-Association-Et Cetera jazz-rock style', a very inventive fusion, the spirit of Krautrock in a radical jazz-fusion. Whilst Peter Giger worked on other commitments as a session musician for ECM and on tour with Eberhard Weber, ex-Dave Pike Set drummer Marc Hellmann filled in. By the time Giger returned, the Dzyan sound had changed considerably, as both Reinhard and Eddy had been experimenting with ethnic musics and a wider range of instruments. Mellotrons, sitar, and the mysterious 'Super String' were added. The third album Electric Silence [1974] was even more out on a limb, bringing weird avant-garde elements together with jazz, rock and various ethnic musics; all together in an extreme melting pot of styles, ideas and fertile imagination. Running from free-jazz through medieval cum raga-rock (cf. Third Ear Band) and intense rock improvisation it is indeed one of the landmarks in experimental rock." From on line review -- When I hear the term "xian psych" I usually head the other direction, however this outfit sucked me with the mind blowing psych anthem "Life Everlasting" on a Gear Fab comp and I had no choice but to buy the album. Disappointed? Not in the least, more like surprised! Great fuzz psych with good tunes and some guitar work that would make Blue Cheer blush. DOUG SNYDER & BOB THOMPSON - Daily Dance (IGGY/MC5 influenced) -Label:LION After meeting at a Stooges/MC5 concert, drummer Bob Thompson and guitarist Doug Snyder met one fine day in October 1972 in Thompson’s kitchen and bashed out this set of fiery improvisations, seemingly influenced as much by Iggy’s proto-punk moves as John Coltrane’s whole "sheets of sound" ethos; the result is a mythical frenzy of distorted guitar and improvised drums, creating walls of psychedelic noise; its sound is unparalleled for its time, preceding its closest kin, New York's no-wave explosion, by a solid five years. And because of it's lack of pretensions (it was done almost innocently), the record comes off as something, dare we say, a little more "spiritual" than is the norm for such excursions. "Founder and leader of Drum Circus was master drummer Peter Giger. “A giant on drums”, as the newspaper “Rhein-Main-Zeitung” called him. He was joined by two additional drummers, as well as by Joel Vandroogenbroeck and Carole Muriel, both from Brainticket. Therefore, it’s not surprising that “Magic theatre”, with its LSD-dripping lyrics (partly written by Timothy Leary, partly influenced by The Tibetan Book of the Dead), is a lot like early Brainticket. “Magic theatre” was recorded in the excellent studio of Horst Jankowski in Stuttgart. ECSTATIC VISION-FOR THE MASSES(Detroit rock grooves, acid freak-outs)-Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS After bursting onto the scene with their 2015 tribal-psychedelic LP 'Sonic Praise', touring the USA with Yob and Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, crushing Roadburn, then quickly releasing a for-heads-only, noisy, psychedelic-garage record to weed out the weak ('Raw Rock Fury'), Ecstatic Vision have pulled themselves out of the muck to deliver their finest album to date. Recorded in Philadelphia at Retro City Studios with Joe Boldizar and mixed/mastered by Tim Green (Earthless, The Melvins) at Louder Studios in Grass Valley, CA, Ecstatic Vision's recent fuzzed-out sound has been sculpted it into a HI/FI psychedelic wonderland. This album is the closest the band has gotten to achieving the energy of their untouchable live shows on tape. EV took a simpler approach on the art this time, using the Spanish dream-team of Edko Fuzz and Bangalore Studios. 'For The Masses' blends tripped-out synth, semi-catatonic desert driving tunes, Afro-tribal Funkadelic vibes, troglodyte-Detroit rock grooves, acid freak-outs, ethereal psychedelic hymns and mind-altering krautrock into Ecstatic Vision's outsider take on modern music. EL POLEN -Cholo-(S American 1970 trippy psych masterpiece) -Label:LION This is an album we've wanted to reissue for years... at long last—together with our friends Repsychled Records from Peru—we can present this masterpiece to you wonderful people out there! The fusion of native folk instruments and trippy psychedelic rock elements produced some of the finest music to emerge from South America in the early 1970’s: Congregacion (and Los Jaivas) from Chile, Arco Iris from Argentina, Wara from Bolivia, and Genesis from Colombia. To this list of excellent bands should be added that of El Polen, a Hippie commune from Peru. El Polen was an artistic group, a group of hippies living in a community and expressing themselves in all levels of art, exchanging ideas, experiences and influences. In late 1969, Juan Luis Pereira, founder of El Polen, had the inspiration to integrate elements of European folk music with Peruvian indigenous music and environmental sounds, such as the sea and the wind. There were six musicians in the loose El Polen ensemble; they were friends with terrific commitment to social causes, both intellectual and revolutionary; they were all for romantic life, living in opposition to the established system, with all these ideals reflected in the music and lyrics. El Polen used mandolin (Beto Martinez) and violin (Fernando Siva) in place of electric guitars; cello (John Sebastian Montesinos) instead of bass; and percussion (Ernesto Pinto) instead of drums. The result was a unique style where violins sounded like fuzz guitars. The year of El Polen was 1972, for that was the year that their debut album, "Cholo" (Virrey, DVS 793)—recorded as the original soundtrack music for a film about soccer player Hugo "Cholo" Sotil developing his career in Europe—was released. The outstanding 11-minute opening track, ‘La Flor’ (the main theme of the film) is a psychedelic acoustic improvisation akin to the music of Brazilian legend Lula Cortez—alone and together with Lailson in Satwa. Other tracks (‘Sitting Dreaming’ and ‘Tondero’ spring to mind), start with Andean folk elements and evolve into long psychedelic excursions. And if you can understand Spanish, lyrics like those in ‘Cholito, pantaloon blanco’ (Cholito, white pants) show the great beauty that can occur from transforming the everyday and the commonplace in something of exquisite beauty. A very strange record with a trancey feel throughout. For many years it was thought that the original reel-to-reel tapes were missing, but luckily it was not true. After a laborious research, our friends at Repsychled found the master tapes, and with them an important discovery: an unreleased track by El Polen featuring vocals by Grammy Award winner, and current Peruvian Minister of Culture, Susana Baca. This special mini-LP sleeve edition comes with a replica ticket for the first El Polen concert (2 April 1971); a replica poster from the 2nd El Polen concert (12 June 1971); and a black and white photo of the band taken in Barranco. FALCO TAV LORE AND TESTAMENT Vol 11 Sugar Ditch Revisited/The Shake Rag DBL CDLabel:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) The Tav Falco & Panther Burns reissue/remaster series, part two. This one contains the Sugar Ditch Revisited EP (1985) and The Shake Rag EP (1986). Plus a previously-unreleased 11-song/45 minute live show from the Messepalast Vienna from 1989. Pristine recording by the ORF! Sugar Ditch Revisited -- a modest album with a huge cast of the crème of Memphis musicians joining Panther Burns. Jim Dickinson produced the record alongside Roland James, pioneer guitarist on the early Jerry Lee Lewis sides, twirling the knobs at the control board. This record featured two songs Dickinson had found on tapes discarded by Stax during the last days of the studio's existence. Sir Mac Rice an ex-Falcon penned "Tina, The Go Go Queen" and "Money Talks." For these numbers Andrew Love and Ben Cauley were brought in from the Memphis Horns to add that lush and signature lilt of the laid-back "Memphis sound." Alex Chilton played his new guitar -- a rusty Mosrite, the bassist Rene Coman came up from New Orleans for the sessions, Ross Johnson whipped the skins, and a bevy of girlfriends sang backing vocals. Shake Rag -- Panther Burns recorded this dark and lugubrious mini-album at the Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis in 1986. While this was the boom period for lavish alternative, new wave, and no wave music productions, there were only three stalwarts responsible for this record: Jim Dickinson producer, keyboardist, guitarist, Ross Johnson on percussion, and Tav Falco on guitar and voice. There is a raw primitivism howling from these tracks and an unbridled intensity not heard from the band in recorded form since their first record Behind the Magnolia Curtain. Live at Messepalast is a collection of songs cut from a wild and wooly two-hour show on Panther Burns' second tour of Europe in 1989. ORF (Austrian National Radio) was there recording the whole mess in ultra high-fidelity, and the result is what you will hear on this record. Two CDs in 12" replica sleeves, the live show is added to the Shake Rag EP. Includes a 32-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes by Tav Falco himself.
