ALLEN, GREG- Fringe Religion - Elevator Girl/Queen of ARt (Hard Rock NY DOlls/THUNDERS related)Label:STRAIGHT TO THE TOP Greg Allen's Fringe Religion is a Boston-based band that formed in 2013 - but they are hardly beginners when it comes to rock and roll. Singer, guitar player and songwriter Greg Allen and bass player Chicago Vin Earnshaw were in a band with the late great Jerry Nolan (drummer for the New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers). Allen has released a number of recordings (including those famous last songs with Jerry Nolan) and has done some time with the underground in London and New York. Earnshaw is a veteran East Coast side-man (Luther Johnson Chicago Blues Band, Jack Smith and the Rockabilly Planets, Lazy Lester and Hubert Sumlin to name a few) and an actor who has appeared in stage, TV and film productions. Allen and Earnshaw are joined by guitar player Curt Florczak who rocks hard but with a real sense of melody and finesse and spent his time in the gunk punk underground with LA's B-Movie Rats, and the equally formidable drummer Chris Michaels.
Greg Allen might have played with New York Doll/Heartbreaker Jerry Nolan but he's no Johnny Thunders clone. Yes, he's got that guttersnipe, raw guitar tone but he has a unique song writing style that evokes a dystopic world through a cast of twisted characters. The music is rock and roll with a nod to all the greats. The band sounds simultaneously familiar and fresh. Hints of classic arena rock, power pop, sleazy glam, proto punk, gut bucket blues and even some country honk serve as backdrop to Allen's unique story telling. Its pure rock and roll, the kind they don't make anymore. Listen to Greg Allen's Fringe Religion and restore your faith in rock and roll. CD $2 SKU:20625

HOMESTEAD & WOLFE - Our Times :The Gold Star Tapes (1973-75) -Label:ANOPHOLES Originally released in 1975, Homestead & Wolfe's lone and unknown privately pressed LP is an artifact so lost to time, it has never appeared in any discography, list of rare records, or catalog, anywhere. However, exist it does, and now their story can be told. Anopheles Records has sat tight lipped on this discovery for the last year while researching and preparing this reissue from the original master tapes and with full cooperation of the group. Homestead & Wolfe was a folk-harmony group based around the United Methodist Good Samaritan church in Cupertino, CA. Comprised of two female lead vocalists, one male lead vocalist, and buttressed with superb male and female harmonies throughout, H&W performed original material in a rich, melodic folk-rock-country style that is well executed, as well as earnest and personal. These 15 tracks were recorded at the legendary Gold Star Studios in Hollywood between 1973-75. Engineered by Stan Ross, these recordings feature top flight studio musicianship from legendary 'wrecking crew' drummer Hal Blaine, guitarist Ben Benay (Goldenrod, Darius), acoustic guitarist Al Casey, monster bass player Ray Pohlman, not to mention one of the world's most renowned and respected pedal steel guitar players, Jay Dee Maness (Buck Owens, the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo LP). The harmonies and arrangements of H&W recall both the Mamas and the Papas and the Carpenters at times, but much of the music deals with darker themes: the story of Wounded Knee told in 'See The Children Die', the organ fueled psychedelia of 'Your Freedom's In Question', aimed at the Nixon administration at the time, remains apropos today, and recalls the work of Growing Concern, Birmingham Sunday, Art of Lovin' and the Poppy Family. There are plenty of surprises here, as we located 6 unreleased tracks to augment the 9 tracks on the original album, including the startlingly great and dynamic cut, 'Beat of the Drum', which sounds as if the Bangles were hired to front Goldenrod for a one off single. The full color 16 page booklet tells the story in their own words, features images of the touring group and recording sessions at Gold Star, and maintains the high standard of archival work Anopheles Records is known for. Homestead & Wolfe represents a highly unusual and strikingly original blend of unproven but talented young vocalists, top quality session players and engineering, and a truly rare chemistry that makes this one of the great folk-rock discoveries of the last 10 years." BRACKETT,ALAN LEE LAST COPIES -Peanut Butter Conspiracy Theories: Lost Songs 1967-1968-Label:OUT-SIDER Out-Sider present Peanut Butter Conspiracy Theories: Lost Songs 1967-1968, previously unreleased recordings by The Peanut Butter Conspiracy's main-man, Alan Lee Brackett. Mostly written and recorded in 1967, when PBC were at their fame peak, Alan explores a number of different styles, encompassing fuzzed-out garage numbers, sunshine pop, folk rock and full blown psychedelia. Including ahead of its time garage-psychedelic, DIY homemade recordings on which Alan plays all instruments by himself plus pro-sounding studio cuts. Although best known as a member of The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Alan Brackett enjoyed a long career in the music business that book-ended his time with that legendary group. A multi-talented musician so adept at playing numerous musical instruments, he was a veritable one man band, and a skilled songwriter who penned many of the PBC's best loved songs. Alan's musical pedigree is second to none. From his early days on the folk circuit through his time with one of the West Coast's premier psychedelic groups and on to his solo career in the seventies, he crafted a body of work that many musicians would envy. Most of the tracks included here were recorded by Alan between 1967 and 68 at his home studio, using a Teac A1200 tape deck. His employed an innovative DIY approach: he used improvised drum kits made up from household objects and manipulated amps and guitars to create feedback and distortion effects. The remaining tracks from this collection were laid down during sessions at a pro studio, Hollywood Sound, although such is the quality of Alan's home recordings you would be hard pressed to single out which ones were made in more professional surroundings. There are surprising guests such as Glen Campbell, who plays tasty lead guitar on "Freeways Of Love". Alan also collaborates with his friend Knox Henderson (songwriter of some of the hits for Mouse & The Traps) on a couple of tracks included here. Songs like "Shell Of A Man", or "Blowin' My Mind Over You" could've been easily included on any of the Peanut Butter Conspiracy albums, while others like "Summertime Changes" or "Love's Only Sleeping" are amazing examples of homemade, DIY psych-fuzz. Master tape sound; Insert with detailed liner notes by Gary Newell (Shindig!, Ugly Things), track-by-track comments by Alan Lee Brackett and rare photos. LP $19 SKU:18296

CIRCLES- ST (70s post Kraut underground) ONE ONLY Label:MENTAL EXPERIENCE In the late 1970s and through the 1980s there was a lot happening on the German "post Krautrock underground" that few people knew about, lots of independent artists doing their own thing, either via small labels or doing it themselves. Circles were one of these bands. Based on the Frankfurt suburbs, they consisted of the multi-instrumental duo of Dierk Leitert (synthesizer, sequencer, drums, bass, guitar, voice, saxophone, flute) and Mike Bohrmann (guitars, bass, synthesizer) plus a few collaborators. Carrying the torch of 70s bands like Cluster, Harmonia or Liliental into the 80s, Circles were also contemporaries of groups like Throbbing Gristle, Ilitch and Nurse With Wound so you can also expect some similarities in their music. “Circles” was their first album, released in 1983 as a private pressing on their tiny Einhorn label, housed in a cool and mysterious looking cover. This little known but excellent kraut/psych/experimental album is highly recommended to anyone into Harmonia, Cluster, Fripp / Eno, Heldon, Conrad Schnitzler, Neu!, Throbbing Gristle, Ilitch, Irmin Schmidt, Amon Düül II… First ever reissue, including detailed liner notes by Alan Freeman (The Crack In The Cosmic Egg, Ultima Thule) telling the story of the band for the first time. “Circles are one of the most fascinating of German ambient /electronic bands from the post new-wave era” - Alan Freeman (The Crack In The Cosmic Egg). LP $20 SKU:20605

Apparently released as an ultra-limited handmade edition back at the time, but no original copies have ever surfaced. Featuring Mythos drummer Hans-Jürgen Pütz on percussion & effects, alongside synth / keyboard freak Alex Meyer, poet / vocalist Pauline Fund and mysterious guitarist Peter Förster. Tripped out electronic ambient soundscapes, dark atmosphere, drones, plenty of MiniMoog, gothic Hammond organ, Rhodes, electric & 12-string acoustic guitars, ritual chants, effects, horror cinematic vibe… *Insert with detailed liner notes by Alan Freeman (Ultima Thule / The Crack In The Cosmic Egg); *LP Includes digital download coupon. “Fans of Terry Riley’s “Shri Camel” or Julianna Barwick’s “The Magic Place” will like this one…meditative synth drones and soundscapes that sound almost sacred in places” – Faris Badwan (The Horrors / Cat’s Eyes); “…haunting and seductive, recalling the atmospheric minimalism of Brian Eno and conjuring up images of celestial angels drifting like ribbons of smoke through the darkness of deep space…” – Bobby Switchblade (Will The Fire); “…Even the albums I did for the Cosmic Courier label seemed fairly commercial in comparison to what I really found fun…” – Toby Robinson (Pyramid) LP $18 SKU:20607

CYMBELINE- “1965 - 1971”Label:GUERSSEN *Insert with photos and liner notes by band member Michael Journath LP includes digital download card Previously unreleased DIY homemade psychedelia, teenbeat and fuzz-psych/prog by this amazing Swedish band, 1965-1971!! Tracks like “Third Image” or “Look at the stars” are an incredible find for anyone into US garage-psych (they wouldn’t sound out of place on any Pebbles or Psychedelic Unknowns volume!) and others like “Flicka”, “Stolta Vingar” or “Mittuppslag” are top notch ‘70s fuzzed out Scandinavian psych/prog. We can’t believe that such fabulous stuff has remained hidden in a carboard box until now Formed in the industrial town of Norrköping in the mid ‘60s, Cymbeline (also known as Motala Ström and W&J) only released a 45 in 1971 before breaking up. But during their existence, the band recorded a lot of stuff, included here for the first time along with their rare 45. Cymbeline was basically two guys, Michael Journath and Anders Weyde, who met in 1965 while they both played in beat bands. They started recording songs at Anders little home studio with help with some friends and that’s how songs like “Imagination” and “Look at the stars”, amazing examples of homemade teen-beat, were born. At the same time, Michael and Anders were feeling a bit tired of playing cover versions with their beat bands so decided to start recording more experimental stuff, using armchairs and furniture as percussion, sounds from seagulls and birds, an electric cocktail mixer, improvising lyrics…these incredible experiments were recorded as “Images”, including the killer garage-psych sounding “Third Image”. As the years passed by, the home studio improved and new songs were recorded in a more psych-prog vein, some of them included here. They also played a few live gigs with some help from other local musicians. In 1970, Ulf Ryberg joined the group and soon after a 45 was released containing his song “New York”. The flip side was “Sixth Image”, originally one of the “Images” but rearranged and re-recorded. In 1971, demos for an LP where recorded at Europafilm Studios in Stockholm. Two fantastic songs are included here and the sound is different from the earlier recordings – closer to the groups live performances. So, 40 years later, here’s the LP that Cymbeline always dreamed of.

Back in 1979, two Turkish guys armed with electro-saz, guitar, drums and synthetizers were hitting the Turkish market in Germany where they lived, playing their sets of traditional flavoured electro-folk in weddings and circumcision feasts for Turkish emigrants in Germany. That crazy is the story, that crazy is their sound!!! We’re glad to bring you the third of their albums, in limited edition of 500 vinyl LPs. Come with insert with linernotes.” LP $18 SKU:20608
MAZINGA PHASER -Cruising In The Neon Glories Of The New American Night long defunct and o/p Label:AETHER RECORDS Psychedelic space rock group from Denton, Texas active during the latter half of the 1990s. Upon their formation in 1994, Jessica Nelson (vocals/keyboards), Cole Wheeler (bass), Wanz Dover (guitar/programming), Eric Hermeyer (guitar), and Mike Throneberry (drums) would be otherwise known as Mazinga Phaser in their native of Denton, TX. Playing out a thick but melodic hybrid of psychedelia and space rock, the band would capture this sound on their first full-length, "Cruising the Neon Glories of the New American Night," through Aether Records in 1996. Not too long after relocating to Fort Worth, TX, Idol Records eventually put out their second album, Abandinallhope, in 1997 and the follow-up EP, Counting Breaths, two years later. But after their third album, Dissatisfied Customers of Hallucination, in 2000, Mazinga Phaser called it a day with Dover moving on with Falcon Project. The band's "Dream of Lost Rivers" was used in David Gordon Green's 2001 film George Washington LP $15 SKU:20563

DEBRIS - STATIC DISPOSAL (70s acid punk ) -Label:ANOPHELES The band were said to be high on acid when they recorded this in Oklahoma in 1975; not surprising then that the result is demented avant-garde proto-punk psychedelia, with modulators and synthesizers, a vibraharp (and more) utilised to good effect; the album is now considered a pivotal mid-70s effort from the American private press underworld, and as such has been hailed in Ugly Things, The Acid Archives, and MOJO (a Jon Savage favorite). And why not? It’s a record which has inspire bands from the Screamers to Nurse With Wound. Debris’ are now seen as one of the most important proto-punk bands of the era, too often snubbed by punk historians who don't want to rewrite their historical templates. This updated second printing features the original album tracks, carefully transferred from the master tapes, plus 40 minutes of unreleased basement recordings from the band's own Subterraneous Static Disposal office in Chickasha, OK in 1975-6. Detailed 28-page booklet has also been updated, and includes extensive notes which detail the band's own first hand experiences. STONE GARDEN -ST (US. 60s HEAVY PSYCH) Label:GEAR FAB For the late 60’s, there wasn’t a much heavier record thanthis amazing slab of US Heavy Psychedelic/Acid Rock!Stone Garden hailed from a state one could assume was among the last touched by the chemical stimulant-inspired revolution in rock music in the '60s. But you wouldn't be able to tell that from Stone Garden. Cobbled together from live and studio recordings made between 1969 and 1971, the reissue collects virtually every available note by the pack of Idaho teens, including both sides of their lone, extremely rare 45 ("Oceans Inside Me"/"Stop My Thinking"). Aside from that single, all the tracks remained unreleased until appearing as a superbly packaged 1998 Rockadelic LP, reproduced in its entirety on this Gear Fab CD. So is it worth all the archival fuss? Mostly, yes, it really is. Stone Garden is an always blistering and often thrilling racket that splits the difference between the plundering depths of hard rock and the mind-excursion highs of psychedelia (or, more precisely, acid rock), carving out a nifty Western patch of its own. A heady trick for a group of boys from the potato state in the year of Woodstock, and, if dated in minor ways, still body-rattling music decades after the fact. There is some dense riffage (the re-recorded version of "Oceans," "It's a Beautiful Day," an awesome "Woodstick") that comes as close to proto-heavy metal shredding as anything else recorded in or around 1969 (that includes Steppenwolf, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, and Blue Cheer), and the band had both an affinity and knack for scintillating, dual-guitar electric blues ("Stop My Thinking"), although the album's sole outright misstep, "SF Policeman Blues," apes early Grateful Dead a little too closely. But there is plenty of consciousness-expanding, detail-intriguing, and ominous melodic shifts, nifty but queasy coats of echo, Zappa-esque avant-garde effects ("Bastard"), and surprisingly mature and hip lyrics -- even if the performances are not exactly nuanced. Subtle Stone Garden was not. But the music can cut you off at the knees and knock the wind out of you, which is pretty impressive stuff. CD $10 SKU:18837
#043-CDR (Cambodian Rocks artists) Label:KHMER ROCKS Several volumes—all CDR’s, as that is the way most music is sold amongst the Cambodian communities worldwide. These discs contain music from artists featured on the “Cambodian Rocks” series of compilations... although in this case, all the text is in Khmer, so good luck finding out what the tracks are called, or who is singing them. The music on these CDR’s demonstrates a much wider variety of styles than you hear on the “Cambodian Rocks” volumes, ranging far beyond the rock idiom into the land of what one might call an Ethiopiques sound, with Latin music, orchestra, and rough folkloric recordings all on display. A treat for the true cultural crate digger... you can’t get more down and dirty—or cheaper—than this. Very limited quantities.COMP CD $10 SKU:20501

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK MEXICAN- VA LAST COPIES ( Stunning heavy psychedelic rock from 1971 ) Paper mini slv replica - Label:VAM RECORDS Stunning heavy psychedelic rock from 1971 by three virtually unknown Mexican groups! Four tracks from the amazing hard-driving and funky EP by Los Papos (released by Orfeon in 1971); four previously unreleased tracks by Los Free Minds, and the only two extant songs by Polvo, an amazing heavy psychedelic rock group from Nuevo Laredo. Los Free Minds was a Mexican Psychedelic Rock trio, formed in 1970 by Jorge Aguilera (guitar, vocals), Jesús Perez [El Jali] and drummer Ernesto Ontiveros. Although invited, the band could not take part in the legendary rock event the Festival de Avándaro held in September 1971; after that, rock music was banned for many years in Mexico, which killed the careers of many bands. BEAU- Creation (Acid psych weirdness 1971) LAST COPIES Label:SOMMER Originally released for John Peel’s Dandelion label in 1971, “Creation” was the second album by underground folk troubadourTrevor “Beau” Midgley, recorded with psych band The Way We Live as backing group. Influenced by Tom Paxton, Leadbelly and Dylan, Beau started to write his own songs in the late 60s. After trying to secure a contract with Elektra Records with no success, he was approached by Clive Selwood (Elektra UK) and John Peel, who were launching a new label, Dandelion Records. Beau signed to them and released his eponymous debut album in 1969. For his second effort, Beau decided to experiment with a more folk-rock sound and add to the mix some avant-garde influences. Jim Milne (lead guitar and bass) and Steve Clayton (drums) from Dandelion stablemates The Way We Live / Tractor were the perfect backing band for him. “Creation” is a brilliant psych-folk / acid-folk offering with superb 12-string guitars, heartfelt vocals, studio effects and occasional acid-fuzz guitar. Beau’s avant-garde influences came to the fore on the title track, which verges into White Noise territory. The album closes with “Silence Returns”, featuring one of the most ear-splitting fuzz assaults ever committed to wax, courtesy of Jim Milne. Master tape sound. Four page insert featuring the first cover design whish was never used plus detailed liner notes by Beau himself and lyrics. Two previously unreleased bonus tracks from 1972 (featuring Tractor as backing band) which were recorded for “High Mass”, an aborted third Beau album which was never released at the time. “It’s a consistent album full of tone, deft playing and thoughtful lyrics that demand and reward attention” – Simon Crisp (Galactic Ramble) LP $18 SKU:20552

SANDHY & MANDHY - Para Castukis ( Rare 70s psych ) 60s style gatefold jacket - Label:LION Here at last is a chance to discover why people have been willing to pay a very steep price to hear Sandhy & Mandhy, the duo who were not a duo, the band who were not a band, creators of perhaps the rarest and most expensive album from Argentina. To tell the story of Sandhy & Mandhy, we have to go back to 1967, when Alberto Infusino (Sandhy) and Alberto Vanasco (Mandhy) began their musical partnership in the beat band The New Free Men. Like many bands of that time, Los Shaker1s and Los Walkers, for example, the New Free Men played covers of songs by the Zombies, Animals, Kinks, Yardbirds, Doors, and so on, in clubs and at parties. Yet at the same time, Infusino and Vanasco started to play their own compositions, with a national touch to the music. Let’s let Vanasco (Mandhy) take up the story: “ In 1969, we went to talk with Billy Bond, chief of La Pesada del Rock Roll, to ask about the chance to make an album. Bond said that he was not looking for a band, but for a duo who sang songs in Spanish... So, we called some friends to play together, and we called the project Sandhy & Mandhy.” They recorded the album in three hours, with a full band (Farfisa organ, congas, drums, bass, and guitars)‹one take of each song. Instead of a demo, they decided to press an LP: the company (Phonalex) pressed 110 LPs in total, which the band gave out at gigs. Sandhy & Mandhy were one of the first bands in South America bring a rebellious attitude to the music scene‹all this in a period of military repression, when forced haircuts in the streets were a common occurrence. Although they broke new ground, success was not their fate. And so thirty-eight years after the burst of improvisation that was Sandhy & Mandhy, the rest of the world can finally take a taste of their dark, groovy, beat-influenced psychedelia (that fuzz guitar on the excellent Lluvia). At times introspective and acoustic, at others manic and ramshackle in the best way, it1s quite a discovery. Now, on to the presentation‹the highest quality mastering and pressing (done at Acoustech Mastering/RTI in California, the same people who master and press every title that audiophile label Classic Records makes); the resulting LP is housed in a poly-lined sleeve, inside an ultra-heavy 1960's style gatefold jacket, which is housed in a loose-fitting plastic sleeve. Inside the sleeve, you will find an insert with full details on Sandhy & Mandhy, including lyrics in Spanish and English, printed on 100% recycled paper. The LP labels are replicas of the originals. A top of the line pressing all the way. Limited edition of 800 copies. LP $10 SKU:19499
