The club was packed to capacity despite the two-odd feet of snow and ice which had closed several of the city's main thoroughfares during the week. The highlight of the weekend came that evening with a live broadcast on WCOZ-FM, one of New England's top FM stations. Featured on the live show were several tracks from the new LP, entitled simply, The Real Kids." And THIS here is that night. Comes in gatefold cover and with 2-sided inner sleeve. LP $24 SKU:19645

TREE PEOPLE- Human Voices ( late '70s Oregon hippie folk band)Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) his is the second album from Oregon's The Tree People, the late '70s Oregon-based predecessors to the ongoing new folk movement in the USA. You already know about their 1979 debut album and you know it's a masterpiece, but did you know about their second album recorded in 1984? Surely not, especially because it was a cassette-only release with a very short print-run. The sound quality on this reissue is splendid, and the music itself is equally as good, if not better than, their self-titled debut and is a real must for any folk and psych-folk lover. Acoustic guitars, subtle percussion, pastoral flute work and some warm vocals make The Tree People's music absolutely ahead of its time. A real beauty! Includes an insert with liner notes by the band's leader Stephen Cohen, as well as some nice pictures LP $18 SKU:10638
COLOGNE CURIOSITIES -The Nuggets of krautrock !-Label:FLASHBACK (UK) Collects for the first time on vinyl, all the otherwise unpublished/un-reissued material that originally appeared on the three Unknown Deutschland - The Krautrock Archive CDs released on Virgin in 1996. These CD only releases were originally compiled by Trevor Manwaring (Paratactile, Impetus, Virgin, Harmonia Mundi) from tapes supplied to him by Toby Robinson. Toby, aka The Mad Twiddler, aka Genius P. Orridge, is well-known to krautrock collectors as one of a number of engineers working at Stockhausen's WDR and Dierks Studio in Cologne in the mid-1970s, where he assisted on recordings by many famous kraut bands such as Can,Birth Control, Mythos and Dzyan. The recordings included here were made between 1972 and 1976 using studios in and around Cologne, produced by Toby Robinson for his own amusement. Bands would come in for practice sessions, to record demos, and during slack periods, impromptu jams would happen. Most of these sessions were recorded by Toby, and they feature Toby himself plus a revolving cast of friends and musicians (some of them apparently big kraut names under pseudonym). Including lost-in-time bands/studio projects like Astral Army, Fuerrote, Spirulina and Baal among others, the music here ranges from killer proto-new wave kraut psych to wild space rock, proto-ambient electronic, dark psychedelia and raw kosmische sounds with lots of analog synths/Moog. It was during that time in Cologne, that Toby, along with Fluxus artist Robin Page, gave birth to the mysterious and controversial Pyramid label, for which these tracks were originally made for. 24-bit domain remaster from the original master tapes. Insert with detailed liner notes by Alan Freeman (Ultima Thule, The Crack In The Cosmic Egg (2007)). Also features: Chronos, Neil Andersen and Ten To Zen. RIYL: Pink Floyd, Gila, Cluster, Hawkwind, Ash Ra Tempel, Amon Düül II, Popol Vuh, Cosmic Jokers. COMP LP $25 SKU:18342
BUZZSAW - FROM LEMON DROPS TO ACID ROCK (DOUBLE LP 70s garage psych w liners) -Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Soon after relocating to the west-coast, Chicago's legendary garage-psych youngsters THE LEMON DROPS (of 'I Live In The Spring Time'-fame) disbanded. Eddie and Gary Weiss then put together 3-piece Buzzsaw. In 1971 Max Weiss, Creedence Clearwater Revival's manager, expressed interest in the band. As a result Buzzsaw entered the Ampex and Pacific Sound studios in San Francisco to lay down some tracks. All of these recordings were produced by Roger Weiss, the original producer of The Lemon Drops and co-owner of Rembrandt Records. Sadly, Buzzsaw only released one 45 during their short lifespan. This Buzzsaw double vinyl retrospective includes all the tracks from the previous 'From Lemon Drops To Acid Rock' CD, plus some amazing songs from recently discovered acetates and unreleased master tapes. The music is orgasmic '71 heavy-psych and proto-grunge in the style of Hendrix and Blue Cheer, with killer fuzz-wah guitar parts and melodic vocals. This double-LP comes with remastered sound and liner notes by Roger Weiss. LP $25 SKU:16609
PROMISE- ST ( 80s Beatlesque power pop ala Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc.) w liners -Label:GOT KINDA LOST RECORDS (SPAIN) LP version. If you're continuously searching the margins for lost artifacts of the pop pantheon, you can find your daily dose in late period exponents of pure, lean, Beatlesque power pop band Promise. Originally issued in 1980 on the Boulder, Colorado, area band's own Cumulus label, their eponymous debut is filled with melodic, beatific blasts of pure pop, replete with ringing, jangly guitars and rollicking crunch. Co-led by singer-songwriters and guitarists Curt Mangan and Danny Mey -- with aid provided by the just-right rhythms of bassist Randy Jones and drummer Gary York -- the group created an album with precious little allying it to the punk-inspired power pop or prescient new wave of the time, instead choosing to hone in on a classicist pop sound highly indebted to those famous moptops from Liverpool. Abetted by the fact that some of the group's members had been playing together since their teenage combos of the mid '60s, the album carries an out-of-time flair across surging rockers and mournful balladry. Got Kinda Lost Records is ecstatic to give this benchmark of privately pressed power pop another chance to shine with this first ever reissue. Includes exhaustive liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things Magazine) culled from interviews with Mangan and Mey. RIYL: Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc. "An exciting, terrific British Invasion-styled guitar pop album full of catchy, memorable hooks, displaying a tougher, 'rock' edge than most of its ilk and some excellent softer songs. Equally recommended to power pop and '60s rock fans." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives LP $18 SKU:16535
RAINBOW PRESS- There's a War On (68 psych insert with liners ) SALE -Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Out-Sider presents the first legit reissue of There's a War On by The Rainbow Press, a cool US '68 psychedelic concept album with all the right moves: solid songwriting, refreshing harmonies, studio effects, organ, fuzz guitar, electric piano, sunshine/baroque touches -- think The Rainy Daze, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Doors. The Rainbow Press evolved from The Continental Divide, a college band from New York containing members from two previous British invasion groups: The Group and The Specs. They were Bill Yergin on drums, Dave Troup on bass, Larry Milton on electric piano and 12-string guitar, Marc Ellis on guitar, Charlie Osborne on organ, and Joe Groff on vocals. All the members sang vocal harmonies and the twin electric piano/organ action gave the band an unusual and cool sound. In 1968, Audio Fidelity approached them and a contract was secured. The band changed their name to the more groovy-sounding The Rainbow Press and sessions for their first album started at Radio City in New York. There's a War On saw the light in 1968 on the Mr. G label (the "hip" branch of Audio Fidelity). It's hard to believe this perfectly recorded psychedelic beauty was made by college students! Remastered sound; includes insert with liner notes telling the band's story for the first time. LP $18 SKU:16564
REIGN GHOST- Featuring Lynda Squires (1969, legendary Canadian psych)- Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) In late 1969, legendary Canadian psych band Reign Ghost recorded their second album, released the following year just when the band had ceased to exist and some of their members had formed prog/psych band, Christmas. This is a fine example of West Coast-styled psych-rock with reverberating/fuzz-wah guitar and male/female vocal harmonies, including absolute psych classics like the monster 9-minute long "Enola Gay." One of the rarest and most expensive Canadian psych albums ever, officially reissued on vinyl for the first time. Newly remastered sound from the original tapes. Includes a fold-out insert with rare photos, memorabilia and detailed liner notes by band member Bob Bryden LP $18 SKU:19657
TITUS OATES -Jungle Lady (Texas 74 rarity)-Label:OUT-SIDER *Insert with detailed liner notes and photos First ever legit vinyl reissue of this progressive hard-rock private pressing from Texas, 1974.Excellent dual guitars, keyboards, melodic vocals, West Coast touches…Think Allman Brothers, early ZZ Top, Wishbone Ash, Homer...Top notch pro-sounding recording and superb musicianship. “Jungle Lady” saw the light in two different pressings: the original white label LIPS vinyl from 1974 is the first pressing, and the red LIPS label is a remix done later in Nashville, possibly around 1975. This Out-sider reissue is taken from the remix version, as it was always believed to be “hotter” than the original pressing. One of the classics since the early days or rare psych records lists, championed by influential tastemakers such as Paul Major. *Master tape sound LP $18 SKU:17711

UNRELATED SEGMENTS - The Story Of My Life – Complete Recordings DBL LP insert with photos and liner notes. -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) Sixties punk, garage, moody sounds and proto-hard-rock of the highest order! Complete recordings (1966-1975) of this legendary band from Michigan, including their three killer 45s plus unreleased recordings and alternate takes. Master tape sound, insert with photos and liner notes. The Unrelated Segments created some of the most celebrated garage-punk anthems of all time. Tracks like “Cry, Cry, Cry” with its teenage-angst vocals and out of control fuzztone guitar break, “The Story Of My Life” with that bizarre and ultra-punk bass line or the moody-punker “It’s gonna rain” have been included on countless garage comps (Back From The Grave, Acid Dreams, Nuggets, etc) and have been covered by numerous bands who worship them as 60s punk Gods. Sadly, the band never got the chance to record a full album. After three outstanding 45s, they recorded a projected fourth single that never saw the light of day, just when the band had changed its name to U.S and had started playing in a heavier vein, similar to early MC5. Soon after, the band split up and some of their members formed psych-rock band Lost Nation. On this collection, along with their official 45s and alternate takes / rehearsals, you’ll find the unreleased 45 from 1969 plus some demos recorded by an unnamed post-Unrelated Segments / Lost Nation band in 1972. An amazing find which shows the band playing pure Detroit high-energy hard rock! “The Unrelated Segments emerged from the same downriver suburbs that had produced the MC5, and their suburban mutation was almost as unique. Singer Ron Stults had an unforgettable style somewhere between punk snarl and Brit erudition and the songs he wrote with lead guitarist Rory Mack were catchy and substantial” – Ben Edmonds (Creeem, Rolling Stone, Mojo LP $25 SKU:16282
UNSETTLED SOCIETY - 17 Diamond Studded Cadillacs ( Complete recordings (1969-1974) of legendary US Acid-Punk band, ) Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) Complete recordings (1969-1974) of legendary US Acid-Punk band, famous for appearing on the seminal psych compilation “Endless Journey” back in the 80s. But Unsettled Society were a total mystery until now. The band came from the New York suburbs and were famous locally for their powerful stage shows, full of strobe and psychedelic flashing lights. In 1969 they released their first 45 for the Charm Label: “17 Diamond Studded Cadillacs”, which is pure acid-psych, lo-fi basement insanity. It was coupled with “Passion Seeds”, a killer moody, atmospheric psych ballad. Between 1972 and 1974 they released two more 45s in a fantastic heavy psychvein, the last one recorded under the Thunder Head name. All of them are included here with sound taken from the original tapes. Fold-out insert with lot of amazing unseen photos and detailed liner notes by Charm Records boss Pete Huntley." “Every known recording by Unsettled Society -- the Iron Butterfly of Upstate New York. Amazing photos and the full story behind “17 Diamond Studded Cadillacs” -- one of the most blazing raunch/psych anthems of all time.” I HAVE TO LIVE MY LIFE IN THE WORLD OF THE UNDERGROUND”. Classic.” —Byron Coley LP $18 SKU:16283

BILLY BOND Y LA PESADA- Volumen 3-4 (heavy psych 1972)- Label:CLOUD FOREST A wildly eclectic brew of driving heaviness, looser trippiness, and even some delicate moments from Billy Bond -- a more freewheeling and ambitious mix of post psychedelic wildness from Brazil's Billy Bond & co! Volume 3 from 1972 is made up of 2 lengthy suites, " Lado 1 -- Acustico" and "Lado 2 -- Eectrica Camplementaria". The former is surprisingly lean in spots, with some folky psychedelia in the blender. The latter is full of abrupt, dramatic stop-start dynamics. Volume 4 from '73 includes "No Nos Paran Mas", "Hacia Algun Lugar", Gracias Al Cielo", "Estamos Hartos", "Ano 1939", "Algo Esta Por Suceder" and more. This one is more of a wild and wooly rock & roll set, and a deliciously unpredictable one! CD $10 SKU:7409

DOMNICKS - Super Real (Stems DM3 Someloves)Label:CITADEL digipack Their debut album Super Real marks a coming of age for The DomNicks. Forged by Perth based Dom Mariani and Nick Sheppard, the band is a powerful blend of swagger 'n' roll rock, soul and pop smarts. Mariani is best known as the driving force behind The Stems, DM3 and The Someloves, while Sheppard's pedigree boasts 80's Bristol punks The Cortinas and thereafter as Mick Jones' replacement in the 1983-86 line-up of The Clash. In 2007 the pair teamed up with Howard Shawcross (The Elks, The Riptides) on bass and Marz Frisina on drums, quickly developing into a very 'hang loose' combo. Playing a mix of Dom and Nick's originals with a spread of 60's and 70's garage and soul classics, they are a band of seasoned players punching well above their collective musical weight. Super Real continues in the tradition of The DomNicks' previous recording, Hey Rock 'n' Roller (Off The Hip 2009). Expanding on Hey Rock 'n' Roller's gutsy guitar driven sound, Super Real takes a ride through blues, soul, funk, and classic guitar pop influences to create one seamless musical journey fuelled by the vim and vigour of a noble era. Among the 12 tracks you'll find the Exile era Stones' sound of Reconcile, the brazen brass and swing of Let's Go Baby, soul flavours in I Wonder What You're Doin' Now, the straight ahead rollicking of Miracle and tantalising twists and turns of the electric sitar driven Winter. It's bound to cause the head and heart to shake. CD $15 SKU:14597

FLEURS DE PAVOT, LES - ST (60s French hippie psych ) -Label:Underground Masters Originally released in 1968, the now impossible to find self titled album by Les Fleurs De Pavot is considered as the first psychedelic/hippie record from France. A veil of mystery surrounded the real origins of the band at the time...according to their press release, they were formed by a couple of hippies, Groovy Pat from London and Jesus from San Francisco who met at some Soft Machine shows in Paris...the reality was more unglamorous: Les Fleurs De Pavot were in fact a twist band called Bourgeois De Calais, transformed into exploitation acid-eater hippies by their manager JP Rawson. The album was produced by the genius tandem of Jean Claude Vannier (famous for his involvement on Gainsbourg's "Melody Nelson" album) & Bernard Estardy (Nino Ferrer's organist / sound engineer). An explosive mix of psychedelic pop, yey music & bizarre studio experimentation featuring 12 superb tracks full of fuzz guitars, groovy vocals and swirling organ with very explicit drug related lyrics. Music ranges from mod psych dancefloor smashers like "A degager" to the final six minute lysergic freak-out "Le Rateau De La Meduse" and even one cool bossa track. CD $10 SKU:15715

FILE UNDER MALE VOCAL- VA - 60s British Last copies- -Label:PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK) The Golden Age of the Beat Balladeer. After enjoying countless compilation albums of psych, beat, garage, girl groups, instrumentals, soul, exotica etc., the Psychic Circle label now releases a compilation which concentrates on that most popular of '60s phenomena, the British male vocalist. These are great tracks and performances that can't really be considered beat, soul or psych, but at the same time conjure a similar sort of mental image. Solid, classy songs performed by great singers which readily evoke the sense of excitement and freshness prevalent in that decade. As legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond) expounds, "What I was trying to assemble for this album was a selection of quality male vocal, with a kind of pop/beat feel. The kind of thing you might have heard in any London discotheque alongside the beat groups, the Stateside soul-sounds, the groovy girls and burgeoning psych riffs. Nothing too MOR or fey, just cool guys doing what they did best. I reckon it's a long overdue examination of a hitherto overlooked genre. It doesn't really need a label, but if you want to give it one, just file under - male vocal." Artists include: Mickey Clarke, Jason Cord, Gerry Deville, Dominic Grant, Nicholas Hammond, Christian Ward, Graham Bell, Jerry Page, Dane Hunter, Brian Keith, Keith Powell, Don Adams, Neil Landon, Greg Hunter, Dave Walton, Danny Street, Dorian Gray, Rudi Bennett, Ronnie Jones, and James Royal. ANTORCHA- ST ( lincredible late 60s/early 70’s anarchistic acid/psych rock tracks ) Label:VAM MEXICO Housed in nice gatefold cover, with liner notes, pictures, discography and poster insert. Official limited edition vinyl from the original masters, featuring incredible late 60s/early 70’s anarchistic acid/psych rock tracks with fuzz, organs and all around great vibe. After the split of Las Antorchas, Victor Motta Aviles and band mate Omar Cortes Gaviño teamed up with Victor's brother Guillermo and continued as Antorcha. Along with Náhuatl and Toncho Pilatos, Antorcha were one of the few groups in Mexico that managed to break the influences of foreign bands—and government oppression—and find their own (demented) sound. In fact, Antorcha set out to cerate an anarchist awareness among young people in the era; they understood anarchy as “respect to youth, the right to free-thinking, and breaking political and religious taboos.” And the music—acid psychedelic rock, with intelligent use of fuzz guitar and a strong rhythm section. Greats stuff from start to finish—all originals—that we can easily rate as some of the best psych rock ever made in Mexico! This LP has all of the band’s EP and single tracks, plus one from their only album, which came out at the end of their career. LP $17 SKU:19497
ANTORCHAS, LAS - ST (ultra-rare 60s Mexican psych w. liner notes, and a poster insert that replicates the Orfeon EP art) - Label:VAM MEXICO Las Antorchas were formed in 1965 by five college students in Mexico City. They released only one EP on Orfeon, but had recorded enough material for an album. They split around 1968/69, but after a line-up change they continued under the name of Antorcha. Thanks to the persistence of VAM Records and record producer Manuel Alvarez Valdez, we now have all known material of Las Antorchas, including their Orfeon material. Their early sounds are rock/beat influenced, with most relying on organ and vocals. But the excellent ‘Dime’ is a really great acid-punk track. Truly underground Mexican rock, waiting to be discovered. This edition has liner notes, and a poster insert that replicates the Orfeon EP art LP $17 SKU:15111
