LEOPARDS - Magic Still Exists (Repress of the orig 1987 Kinks-style garage release ) PURPLE Label:VOXX In 1987 The Leopards sounded as wonderfully Kinky as ever, and when the band got around to releasing Magic Still Exists, the Kinks had a lower profile than ever, which made this album a most welcome arrival. A now classic record from the first wave of garage revival repressed for the first time since its original release on Voxx Records. LP $5 SKU:13570
NEW ARRIVALS
NATURE - ST ( rare 1972 debut self-titled album by Swedish underground psychedelic hard rock band) -Label:SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN) First ever vinyl reissue of rare and sought-after Swedish underground hard rock psych treasure from 1972. PROMISE- ST ( 80s Beatlesque power pop ala Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc. ) w liners -Label:GOT KINDA LOST RECORDS (SPAIN) LP version. If you're continuously searching the margins for lost artifacts of the pop pantheon, you can find your daily dose in late period exponents of pure, lean, Beatlesque power pop band Promise. Originally issued in 1980 on the Boulder, Colorado, area band's own Cumulus label, their eponymous debut is filled with melodic, beatific blasts of pure pop, replete with ringing, jangly guitars and rollicking crunch. Co-led by singer-songwriters and guitarists Curt Mangan and Danny Mey -- with aid provided by the just-right rhythms of bassist Randy Jones and drummer Gary York -- the group created an album with precious little allying it to the punk-inspired power pop or prescient new wave of the time, instead choosing to hone in on a classicist pop sound highly indebted to those famous moptops from Liverpool. Abetted by the fact that some of the group's members had been playing together since their teenage combos of the mid '60s, the album carries an out-of-time flair across surging rockers and mournful balladry. Got Kinda Lost Records is ecstatic to give this benchmark of privately pressed power pop another chance to shine with this first ever reissue. Includes exhaustive liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things Magazine) culled from interviews with Mangan and Mey. RIYL: Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc. "An exciting, terrific British Invasion-styled guitar pop album full of catchy, memorable hooks, displaying a tougher, 'rock' edge than most of its ilk and some excellent softer songs. Equally recommended to power pop and '60s rock fans." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives LP $28 SKU:16535
SANULLIM -The Psychedelic Years, 1977-1979 -Label:DOUNIA RECORDS (FRANCE) Limited edition of 500 copies. At a time when punk is unfolding over England, when guitars are faster and more aggressive, all packed up in protesting slogans against Establishment, in South Korea appears Sanullim, a group formed by three brothers Kim Chang Wan, Kim Chang Hoon and Kim Nan Suk. Instead of wearing studded perfectos and multicolored ridges, the brothers prefer 3 part costumes and psychedelic melodies that were at top of charts around the world, 10 years ago. Sanullim is a well-typed retro 60's band that has nothing to envy to their elders! One has only to listen to Are You Coming In Fall to be convinced! Languid, almost melancholy, with à lot of organ and distortion, this title is a good summary of the potential of Sanullim. Always oscillating between a heavy psychedelic rock like on the title Oh Already, and more pop tunes like It Was Probably Late Summer or Two Of Us, which the organ is not without reminding us of floydians vapors. Sanullim offers us through this compilation, his vision of rock, with a lot of shades. Without just copying, Sanullim have their own sound that will delight lovers of garage and exotic obscurities. The climax of this awesome compilation is the 18 minutes of You Are Already I, where the group leaves free speech to the instruments: guitars filled with a lot of fuzz, weird keyboards and dry bass echoes together to weave a dantesque fresco! A must have for fans of the genre! LP $26 SKU:16529
BITTER SEEDS/THE ROCK SHOP, THE- State of Your Mind ( pioneering '60s San Francisco garage psych band , our-page insert with liner notes, photos, and memorabilia ) -Label:OUT-SIDER (SPAIN) Includes the band's only release, 1967's State of Your Mind/Is That Your Halo, four previously unreleased 1968 studio tracks, and three wild live recordings from 1966.
- Includes four-page insert with liner notes, photos, and memorabilia.
- Remastered sound.
- "'Is That Your Halo' is an intensely menacing punker that rumbles into Yardbirds' rave-up territory at the bridge where incendiary leads battle with rasping harmonica; 'State of Your Mind' is an almost equally powerful acid-punker -- truly a double-whammy of a 45." --Fuzz, Acid and Flowers
The Bitter Seeds were one of the pioneering bands from the early Monterey music scene. Led by flashy guitar player Leonard "Pooch" Paschini, they were active from 1966 to 1970, gigging regularly at such legendary venues as Bull's Eye Tavern, Longshoremen's Hall, The Matrix, and The Fillmore and sharing stages with the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Iron Butterfly, and Steppenwolf. In 1967, The Bitter Seeds recorded their only 45, issued on Rowena Records as The Rock Shop to avoid confusion with The Seeds. State of Your Mind/Is That Your Halo is a brutal garage-psych double-sider. The following year the group recorded four studio tracks that have remained unreleased until now. These are perfect examples of the transition from R&B-garage to early psychedelic sounds that many San Francisco ballroom bands experienced at the time. An exciting find for any lover of lost West Coast psychedelic sounds. For this Bitter Seeds/Rock Shop retrospective, Out-Sider has also unearthed some wild live recordings from 1966 with good sound quality. Includes four-page insert with liner notes, photos, and memorabilia. Remastered sound. LP $28 SKU:16537

JONESES,THE - Criminal History Revisited DBL LP ( 80s Trash Punk Rock & Roll ) -Label:Full Breach Kicks Out of all the rock ‘n’ roll sleaze bands in Hollywood during the 1980s, The Joneses are recognized as coming first and being the toughest and most honest of them all. This no-nonsense group of trash rockers, led by the charismatic Jeff Drake, were a hot-blooded mix of the New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, and Eddie Cochran, too glam for punk and too punk for rock. If the term “trashy rock ‘n’ roll” could only apply to one band, The Joneses would take the label in spades. This collection has been re-mastered and includes The Joneses best songs, rare and unreleased songs only found on this release, many unseen pictures, and detailed liner notes. ARIEL -A Strange Fantastic Dream- ( 70s Aussie blues prog ) -Label:PROG TEMPLE (UK) Ariel was an Australian band that formed from the ashes of Spectrum and Tamam Shud. Released on EMI's progressive imprint Harvest in 1973, A Strange Fantastic Dream, if having certain similarities to early British progressive rock (Procol Harum, Uriah Heap) and the art rock of Supertramp, has a wry, bluesy rock swagger that's distinctly Oz. The album fared well commercially and critically, reaching #12 in the LP charts in February 1974. CD $17 SKU:16367
CATHERINE’S HORSE- Garage Blues from Connecticut SAALE - Label:BREAK- A-WAY RECORDS (Germany) Due to a long time growing interest into local 60s rock, most band stories, even of those who did put out rare and local records, have since been written. Not so with Connecticut band Catherine´s Horse. Their sole album dates from 1969 and was released only in an inner sleeve and no cover. Due to its rarity it is still a largely unknown release among today's record collectors and honoured with five stars in Hans Pokora’s “1001 Record Collectors Dream Book”. But those who happen to be familiar with it, appreciate it for the fresh sound of the music and the clear production. That and the fact, that it’s an amazing white blues rock album with a strong garage attitude provided by five high school students who never played professionally. The tracks are nearly all cover versions of classic, often moody blues tracks reminiscent of early Paul Butterfield Blues Band or Blues Project. The LP incl. long time standards such as “Good Morning Little School Girl”, “Think Twice”, “One More Mile” or “Can’t Keep From Cryin” mixed with covers of Jimmy Brenstons’ “Rocket 88” or Jagger / Richards “Good Times, Bad Times”. The only group original ''Sun Going Down'' hints at the talent and potential the band had and rounds off the groups effortless white electric bluesrock expertise. As the vinyl release from 15 month ago, this CD release comes with the originally intended coloured cover-art. The detailed booklet has the band’s history as related by original members Roger Goodspeed, Jay Geary and Putnam Smith, alongside rare photos and memorabilia. A 100% legit release and a must for late 60s rock collectors.

CHILDREN OF THE MUSHROOM- ST ( Rare garage 60s psych Fold-out colour insert with liner notes, interview with the band members, and rare photos. ) -Label:OUT-SIDER (SPAIN) Though they only released one 45 during their existence, Children of the Mushroom epitomized the psychedelic garage sound coming out of California in the late '60s. Formed in Thousand Oaks by Jerry McMillen and Dennis Swansen, they evolved from a mid-'60s teen-beat band called The Captives. In 1967, they became Children of the Mushroom, a name which reflected their new psychedelic sound and image. The following year, they caught the attention of a couple of young producers, who signed the band for a 45 release. Recorded in 1968 for Soho Records, August Mademoiselle/You Can't Erase a Mirror is one of the masterpieces from the first psychedelic era: feedback, fuzz, organ, and mysterious vocals. Soon after, the band incorporated a new guitar player, shortened their name to The Mushroom and started playing in a more heavy psych vein, in a similar style to Iron Butterfly. This retrospective album includes both tracks from their monster 45, with sound taken from the master recordings, plus previously unreleased tracks by The Mushroom, recorded in 1968. These are raw, lo-fi home recordings with lots of fuzz guitar and organ. It's the sound of a psychedelic band in 1968 playing free and wild, without any producer or record label executive telling them what to do. An incredible document. Remastered sound. Fold-out colour insert with liner notes, interview with the band members, and rare photos. CD $18 SKU:16348
DESTROY ALL MONSTERS - Hot Box 1974-1994 2CD w booklet, photos, and unseen artwork - Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) Includes a generously-illustrated booklet featuring photos and artwork never seen before. All tracks have been remastered from recently discovered tapes. Destroy All Monsters are known by some for their role as a bastion of resistance of Detroit's rock; for being, during their second period, the band in which Ron Asheton would reappear. For others, they are a pivotal reference point in the copious but relatively unknown avant-garde underground from the same city, after Thurston Moore and Byron Coley dug up their first recordings in 1996 and the original line-up reunited. Destroy All Monsters comprises two complementary and interconnected poles throughout the saga of the Motor City's music scene, from the University of Michigan's Cooperative Studio for Electronic Music to The Stooges, through to the White Panther Party. In its two incarnations, the experimental -- led by Cary Loren, Jim Shaw and Mike Kelley -- and the high energy one -- with Asheton and Michael Davis from MC5, both featuring the phantasmagorical Niagara in the role of doped-up priestess, Destroy All Monsters are the object of one of the most devotional cults of America's cultural underground, as testified by their abundant artistic and record production. Hot Box 1974-1994 is the first anthology to bring together the best outcome of those two hemispheres, including much unreleased material. CD $24 SKU:16096

BEST ARIZONA GARAGE BANDS 19670 1970- VA- w 20 page booklet-Label:HDM RECORDS In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more. The Arizona music scene during the sixties can easily be likened to its desert surroundings: The monotony of average and sometimes even good bands writing less than good and even average songs. Then one day you hear a band that knocks you out. Those are the kinds of bands that I had the opportunity to discover and produce that suddenly emerged out of garages and other little holes in walls ? wherever they could find a place to converge and create their music. I now have the honor and the privilege to present to you the bands that I think are Arizona's best garage bands from 1967 to 1970.' -- Hadley Murrell. "At an age when most of us were just listening to music, Hadley Murrell got involved. At 14 he started playing drums with The Carnations, and went on to work in radio, as well promoting shows and other live events. Much of what he made went towards studio time to produce the music heard in this collection. Often garage rock is under produced to its detriment. That's not the case here, Murrell recorded at Phoenix's Audio Records, other clients included Dwayne Eddy, Dyke & The Blazers and Waylon Jennings (among many others). And unlike many garage rock sides ? Hadley took his performers into the studio prepared and ready to lay down tracks as hot as the Arizona desert. In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more." LOST SOULS - Vol 1 Unreleased 1960s Garage and Psychedelic Rock from Arkansas 180 gram COLOR VINYL -Label:GET HIP Lost Souls Volume 1 Part 1 digs deep into the diamond mine of Arkansas seeking forgotten gems from the 1960s garage and psychedelic scene. Unknown punk like the Blue and the Gray’s lethal take on “Don’t Send Me No Flowers” will convert the non-believers. Herein lies teen angst and woes from around the state chronicled on scarce 45s and acetates resurrected from private collections. Lost Souls Vol. 1 was the first release from Psych of the South records, an Arkansas based label and research project headed by Harold Ott. After a year and a half of research, the CD became a reality in 2007.This quest began with another garage compilation. After searching for some moody garage tracks, Ott ordered Arf! Arf!'s "No No No" CD. Included in the liner notes were scans of the original 45 labels of the featured songs. The label of the Lost Souls' "Lost Love" on Leopard Records had the remnants of an ink stamp with a business name and address in Jacksonville, Arkansas, Ott’s hometown. This piqued his interest and he started locating band members of Arkansas' garage music past. Inevitably, each contact brought five more names for follow-up. Soon, he was managing a small enterprise of local garage band research. Records, acetates, masters, photos, press clippings, etc were being resurfaced in the efforts. It became his mission to find as many artists and great records to document their story and music.Get Hip worked with Ott to release the Lost Souls CD on vinyl for the first time. This LP features updated liner notes with newly discovered information and photos of the featured bands. COMP LP $18 SKU:16147

LIBERTY BELL - Thoughts and Visions 67-69 ( Texas garage psych )Label:BREAKAWAY Corpus Christie, Texas 1967 - the town is a hotbed for young music groups. One of the local bands to cause attention is called The Zulus. The group plays local gigs, enjoys a certain popularity and a record deal is overdue. Carl Becker, co-owner of J-Beck Records, who had already managed the Zakary Thaks, offers the band a contract for his newly established Cee-Bee Label. On Beckers suggestion the band changes their name to LIBERTY BELL and in 1967 their debut 45 'The Nazz Are Blue' b/w 'Big Boss Men' gets released. The name Liberty Bell is indissoluble wedded with other self penned devasting garage recordings such as 'That's How It Will Be', 'For What You Lack' or the unreleased 'I Can See'. In 1968 lead singer Ronnie Tanner leaves the band and gets replaced by former Zakary Thaks lead singer Chris Gerniottis. The change in line-up and the arising spirit of time gives a more psychedelic edge to the band's sound and leads to another load of classic Gerniottis written scorching fuzz recordings such as 'Reality Is The Only Answer', 'Recognition' or 'Look For Tomorrow'. For the first time in 25 years, the music of the Liberty Bell is available again on vinyl. Brillant Five-Star-Texas-Garage-Punk - always and ever! LP $19 SKU:16268

REAL KIDS-Shake - Outta Control - 180-GRAM -Label:UGLY POP t's been 38 years since Boston's REAL KIDS debuted with the finest rock'n'roll record ever committed to tape, and now they're back with a long-awaited new full-length on legendary hometown label Ace Of Hearts and Canada's Ugly Pop. Of course, long time fans can always be excused some apprehension when a band of this vintage presents new material so deep into their career, but there's no cause to fret here. “Shake...Outta Control” is a fantastic return to form, a strong set of powerful, memorable and engaging songs that do absolute justice to this band's legacy. While some bands lose track of their own soul in forced attempts at progression, and others risk diminishing returns by simply treading the water of their earlier work, 2014 finds the Real Kids negotiating this path beautifully. Boasting both the raw energy and tough hooks of 1977 and the matured chops and expanded palette of frontman John Felice's “Nothing Pretty” LP, the dozen songs on this disc settle easily among the band's best work. Producer Rick Harte guides with an expert hand, integrating Hammond organ and pedal steel seamlessly into a full yet suitably unpolished whole, and the songs run the gamut from quieter but intense ballads like a definitive new “Common At Noon” and a sublime take on Jonathan Richman's “Fly Into The Mystery” to fast-paced rockers like “All Night Boppin'” (powered along by highly caffeinated barroom piano) and of course the instant classic title track, a high-energy gem anchored by the sort of classic Boston punk rock'n'roll riff that made this band's name. Culminating in an incendiary “Who Needs You?”, this is a genuine Real Kids record that will thrill new fans and old alike. Superbly mastered at New York's renowned Sterling Sound, the “Shake...Outta Control” LP was cut 100% analog direct from tape and pressed at RIP-V on 180G vinyl for an incredible high-quality deluxe package. WITCH- Introduction ( 70s Zambia's premier garage /psych masterpiece) - Label:NOW-AGAIN 2015 repress. Comprehensive overview of Zambia's premier garage-, psych-, prog-, funk-,Afro-rock ensemble Witch, We Intend To Cause Havoc!, is now sold out in its 6LP box set form, so NOW AGAIN is making the first four Witch albums available in archival reissue form. As with the box set, the audio is nigh-perfect -- restored and remastered from the original master tapes. The entirety of Witch's first album, restored and remastered from master tapes, and presented as an archival reissue. Witch's musical arc is contained to a five year span and, in retrospect, is a logical one. The band's first two, self-produced albums - released in unison with the birth of the commercial Zambian recording industry -- are exuberant experiments in garage rock, and are as influenced by the Rolling Stones as they are James Brown. Thus Introduction, their first, is the perfect starting point for anyone interested in delving into the Witch band, or Zamrock in general. LP $24 SKU:14961
