NEW ARRIVALS
NUTHINS - Modesty Blaize (UK garage psych)Label:DIONYSUS / Four psych-garage winners from the UK. 45 RPM $3 SKU:20685
PERCY & THE GAOLBIRDS WHO CAN HELP ME- 1966 Battle of the Bands winnersLabel:DIONYSUS /BACCHUS 1966, this group won a battle of the bands contest, which led to the recording of these three mid-'60s beat-mod classics and a rather demented, up-tempo Schlager-beat raver. Super toll und kult to ze max 45 RPM $3 SKU:20684
SCRATCH BONGO WAX - Surfin Turd (So Cal garage punk) Label:DIONYSUS /BACCHUS “I was introduced to this fairly prolific Thousand Oak, CA crew via the crucial, Ben Weasel-curated Punk USA compilation. Though plenty snide and irreverent, Scratch Bongowax's pop and cranky garage-rawk tangents must have made them stick out like out like a sore thumb amongst their purist punk contemporaries. Mudhoney by way of Mr. T Experience? Sort of - and to large extent it actually works.”- Wilfully Obscure 45 RPM $3 SKU:20686
BARROW ,KEITH -Expanded Edition (70s soul) Label:BIG BREAK It’s impossible to know what impact Keith Barrow might have made with his music if not for his untimely death at the age of 29. The son of a minister (his mother was a field organiser for Martin Luther King’s civil rights organisation), Barrow was born in Chicago in 1953 and grew up singing in church groups. In his teens, he formed his own gospel group before leaving Chicago to pursue a career in music. In 1976, Barrow wrote the Top Fifty R&B single 'Teach Me (It ‘s Something About Love)' for Blue Magic, who had been working with legendary Philly Soul guitarist Bobby Eli. Eli went on to produce this album, Barrow's debut, which was released on Columbia in 1977. Although not a major commercial success, Barrow’s performance of the Eli written 'Mr. Magic Man' gained him some attention, and 'Precious' became an underground hit. BBR is very proud to present this newly re-mastered edition of "Keith Barrow", accompanied by extensive liner notes featuring an interview with Bobby Eli and additional bonus material. FLOOR ,THE - 1st Floor ONE ONLY (Danish 60s pop psych)Label:RPM The only album by the Danish band the Floor is heavily derivative of 1967 British pop-psychedelia, to the point where most knowledgeable listeners would simply assume the musicians were British if not informed otherwise. There are observational story-songs; upbeat pop/rockers with a mild vaudevillian/music hall bounce, à la some of the work from the period by the Beatles and the Kinks; Baroque-classical-tinged strings; some flower-power-tinged lyrics; and an eclecticism that runs from relatively straight rock to self-consciously arty compositions CD $15 SKU:20674
HALLYDAY,JOHNNY-The Sound, The Fury (60s French iconic rock and roller) -Label:RPM Johnny Hallyday erupted over France in March 1960. He was the first home-grown rock ‘n’ roller with the fire and the fury of the American originals which inspired him. France had heard and seen nothing like it. He outraged, inspired riots and condemnation in the press. Now, in 2014, he is still an icon and a superstar. The Sound, The Fury plucks 20 hot tracks from his first two years: 1960 and 1961. The first-ever collection of his early years to be issued outside France, this is the foundation of Hallyday’s career. From the beginning, from ‘Laisse Les Filles’ onwards, he wrote his own songs. Eleven of the twenty cuts are written by Hallyday. The Sound, The Fury is not about the hits, the evergreens and the staples of French oldies radio. It is about Hallyday’s wildest, most rough and unmediated music. This is the sound which drove France wild. With in-depth liner notes and a fully illustrated package. CD $12 SKU:20675
HONEYRIDER- All Systems Go! BEach Boys/Byrds inspired) -Label:DIONYSUS /ORANGE SKY Honeyrider is a group originally from San Diego and they (at least on this album) dabble in a surf rock sound reminiscent of early Beach Boys. I wish I could drool all over myself about this album like every other review I spied about it, but to be honest listening to the 12 original tracks here in one sitting was just too taxing to keep my interest. There were moments on the album where I thought things were going to pick up, but it never happened. All the sounds washed together in a generic melodic surf rock homogenization.CD $5 SKU:5161
HOT CHOCOLATE-Man to Man (70s soul funk) Label:7T’s First time on CD for the third studio album by Hot Chocolate, originally issued in 1974. Includes the hit singles Man To Man, Don t Stop It Now (USA No.42) and Heaven Is In The Back Seat Of My Cadillac . Detailed liner notes by Phil Hendriks, original LP artwork and loads of European picture sleeves are featured in the booklet. "Sonically speaking, this album, produced by the iconic Mickie Most, is one of the most impressive and unique sounding albums of the funk era. Everything involved with the rhythm—the bass, drums, percussion, even the vocal arrangements are pumped up to be bigger, phatter and as thick with stomping funkiness as can possibly be. CD $8 SKU:20673
LOVE COMMITTEE -ONE ONLY Law & Order: Expanded Edition (70s soul funk Label:BIG BREAK Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1978 album from soul outfit comprised of former Ethics members Ron Tyson and Joe Freeman with the addition of Norman Frazier and Larry Richardson. Prior to the release of "Law And Order," Gold Mind Records prepared the single offerings, 'Cheaters Never Win', which achieved an impressive Top 60 spot on the US R&B charts; the title track 'Law And Order', became a huge dance floor hit making it into the R&B Top 100 and rocketing all the way to #2 on the US dance charts. Other notable tracks include the third and final single 'Tired of Being Your Fool' and funky cut 'Pass the Buck'." Bonus tracks include various 12" mixes. Tasty. CD $12 SKU:20672
PUENTE,TITO -Big World Of (rare tracks from S American 50s percussionist)-Label:ACME Compilation concentrating on the early glory years of one of the most important percussionists of all time. All tracks are culled from rare South American sources, they all established his incredible reputation. Includes: "Cuban Cutie", "Espinita", "Mambo Con Puente" and "Mambo La Roca." CD $8 SKU:20678
VINICIUS DE MORAES -Modernism and Bossa Nova-Label:ACME Vinicius de Moraes, Rio de Janeiro born poet and diplomat (he worked for the Brazilian Foreign Ministry in North America, France and Uruguay), was a truly singular figure in his nation's rich culture. In 1954 he wrote the play Orfeu da Conceição , which was soon adapted by French director Marcel Camus into the film, Black Orpheus, a controversial, but enormously popular movie which impressed early 1960s audiences with its beautiful soundtrack and panoramic technicolor views of Rio de Janeiro. This él collection begins with seven de Moraes/Jobim songs from the original 1956 Black Orpheus performed by Jobim, Roberto Paiva and Luis Bonfá (including “Someone to Light Up My Life” from that production, later recorded by Frank Sinatra) before presenting an anthology of de Moraes lyrics recorded by artists like Jon Hendricks, Carlos Lyra, Joao Gilberto, Cardoso, Bonfá and de Moraes himself. Future jazz/bossa standards “Agua de Beber (Water to Drink),” “How Insensitive” and “The Girl from Ipanema” can all be sampled here in their original Portuguese. All but five songs here were written by the team of Jobim and de Moraes, making this collection a tribute to the enduring music of both men. CD $8 SKU:20677
TEEN SCENE - 5 ONE ONLY! (50s/ 60s obscurities)PLabel:DEJAY JAMBOREE Last copy! Originally issued on the Buffalo Bop subsidiary Deejay Jamboree, the acclaimed TEEN SCENE series has moved over to Buffalo Bop proper for Vol. 5. Where other Buffalo Bop series explore the rougher edges of early rock and rockabilly, the TEEN SCENE series has its sights firmly set on youth-oriented kitsch from the late '50s and early '60s--far from a bad thing when you consider the obscure delights to be found on this disc. The exuberant backing vocals on Bobby Towers' "Love To Go" and the eccentric, Joe Meek-like production touches of Don Crawford's "Ugly Duckling" prove that kitsch can have teeth. 28 tracks: Thunderbird Beach - Floyd Brown, Puddin' - Roy Clark, Pretty Little Girl - Johnny Hughes, Don't Send Me Away - Garry Shelton, Lonesome Soul - Tune Tones, So Young - Dave Lowe, Ain't That Love Grand - Ron & Joe & Crew, A Tramp - Dave Lowe and many more COMP CD $12 SKU:20601

KIM JUNG MI - Now (70s Korean psych) Label:LION At the dawn of the 1970’s, South Korea’s rock music scene was at its zenith. This deluxe mini-LP sleeve CD version has a 20-page booklet with rare photos, and great stories about Shin Joong Hyun and Kim Jung Mi’s continuing place of prominence in the Korean music scene. PRINCIPAL EDWARDS MAGIC THEATRE- Asmoto Running Band (late 60s John Peel fave) LAST COPIES Label:CHERRY RED he multi-media Principal Edwards Magic Theatre cut a compellingly original swathe through a late-1960s music scene seemingly inhabited by wall-to-wall blues bands. Their first ever gig was witnessed by benefactor and producer John Peel. The legendary DJ promptly signed them to his Dandelion label. ‘I guess he liked what he heard,’ says guitarist and chief songwriter Root Cartwright. A stand-alone single released before the first album, ‘Ballad (Of The Big Girl Now And A Mere Boy)’/ ‘Lament For The Earth’, is included in this package as a bonus track. ‘Soundtrack’ hit the record racks in August 1969, the third Dandelion long-player to be released. The sometimes whimsical, sometimes epic (verging on progressive rock) writing style of guitarist Root Cartwright, was paired with the eclectic lyrical contributions of David Jones, Gillian Hadley and Monica Nettles, and was performed by vocalist Vivienne McAuliffe. The violin and recorders of Bindy Bourquin were another key element of the group's trademark sound. Lyn Edwards, originally on bongos, took over on the drumkit. CD $8 SKU:19084

SNAKEGRINDER - And the Shredded Fieldmice (70s psych Grateful Dead style) - Label:OBSCURE OXIDE "Every burg in the '70s that had a steady supply of weed and electricity undoubtedly provided a birthing ground for the formation of bands influenced by the likes of Jerry Garcia and Lowell George, and the Delaware area was no different. What was different was that our subjects-at-hand got it together and in 1977 released an unassuming document for posterity, containing nothing but original, winding (dare we say "snake-like"?) compositions and good vibes throughout. Since then, the album has garnered accolades from the Acid Archives crowd and so we felt the time was right to give the group's efforts a proper (and properly licensed from the band) presentation, with an "old-style" heavy mini-LP sleeve and thick booklet containing pics, gig posters, song lyrics and liner notes by producer and longtime fan GREGOR ALLIGATOR. In addition, we've added a half-hour of unreleased live tracks from the same era, and everything you hear (album and bonus) was transferred from the mastertapes." CD $10 SKU:8709
TAJ MAHAL TRAVELLERS- Live Stockholm July, 1971 (psych) DOUBLE - Label:DRONE SYNDICATE (SWEDEN) Tokyo's Taj Mahal Travellers were one of the prime examples of a band more heard-of than actually heard. Their vinyl legacy (the 1972 LP July 15, 1972 released on CBS/Sony Japan; the 1974 2LP August 1974 released on Columbia Japan and recently reissued by P-Vine as a 2CD; one side of the mythical Oz Days Live 2LP compilation released on Oz in 1973 and recently bootlegged as a single LP) could dig a hole in your wallet deeper than the Grand Canyon. However, the recent reissues have spread the gospel and so here is the chance to hear the young Taj Mahal Travellers live in Stockholm during their 'tour' through Europe in 1971. It's one 2-hour long improvised track. Enough free-floating higher key bliss to keep every grown-up space cadet happy for a lot longer. This 2CD set is limited to 1000 copies." From Julian Cope's Japrocksampler: "This album is a discorporated, cerebral dance whose rhythm sounds like six weather Gods emulating the cover of Deep Purple's Fireball by zooming around Silverstone circuit just inches above the track, each urging himself on by making engine noises: 'Eee-oww-urghh-ow!!!!!!!' CD $14 SKU:19043

MAZINGA PHASER -Cruising In The Neon Glories Of The New American Night long defunct and o/p Label:AETHER RECORDS Psychedelic space rock group from Denton, Texas active during the latter half of the 1990s. Upon their formation in 1994, Jessica Nelson (vocals/keyboards), Cole Wheeler (bass), Wanz Dover (guitar/programming), Eric Hermeyer (guitar), and Mike Throneberry (drums) would be otherwise known as Mazinga Phaser in their native of Denton, TX. Playing out a thick but melodic hybrid of psychedelia and space rock, the band would capture this sound on their first full-length, "Cruising the Neon Glories of the New American Night," through Aether Records in 1996. Not too long after relocating to Fort Worth, TX, Idol Records eventually put out their second album, Abandinallhope, in 1997 and the follow-up EP, Counting Breaths, two years later. But after their third album, Dissatisfied Customers of Hallucination, in 2000, Mazinga Phaser called it a day with Dover moving on with Falcon Project. The band's "Dream of Lost Rivers" was used in David Gordon Green's 2001 film George Washington LP $15 SKU:20563
