PEBBLES. THE SERIES THAT INSPIRED THE ENTIRE GARAGE ROCK REVIVAL! In his review of the Pebbles series for Allmusic, Richie Unterberger comments: "Though 1972's Nuggets compilation reawakened listeners to the sounds of mid-'60s garage rock, it only focused on the tip of the iceberg. Behind those forgotten hits and semi-hits lurked hundreds, if not thousands, of regional hits and flops from the same era, most even rawer and cruder. . . . More than any other factor, these compilations [in the Pebbles series] were responsible for the resurgence of interest in garage rock, which remains high among collectors to this day."

NOTE: PEBBLES was originally mastered by Greg Shaw, from old singles from his collection. The first song on side one was even mastered with a SKIP! Bands often perform that song with the skip, to the delight of their audience. We have not remastered or changed the originals in any way. If you want perfect sound quality, this aint the place for it. This is the historical original mastering with all of its flaws and character.

AKBAYRAM, EDIP-ST- (70s Turkish fuzz) Label:PHARAWAY SOUNDS Edip Akbayram's a frail guy who spent his childhood unable to walk, but once he grew up he was on Istanbul TV in a whitey-fro and knee length colored robes. Akbayram's voice is big & open, and it took him all across Turkey at the height of Anatolian psychedelia. This 1st album collects precious singles from 1972-74, with dark melodies that descend in loose spirals, seemingly forever. Tunes taken from mystic Sufi poets who played the baglama, but retrofitted with hard plowing electric bass lines, funky drums, fuzz-wah guitars and keyboards. (70s Turkish fuzz) Label:PHARAWAY SOUNDS As Turkey's political factions turned more aand more violent in the late 1970s, Buscemi-eyed Edip Akbayram was nearly beaten up by rioting audiences for daring to sing about rural points of view that were naturally critical of Istanbul's political leaders. This second album of Anatolian psychedelia, originally released in 1977, showed defiance even in its gatefold art, with a drawing of the band members seeming to grow straight out the ground, covered in plant tendrils. Akbayram poached members of Mogollar and Baris Mano's Kurtalan Ekspres to get the best fuzz breaks and hammond slams & put 'em straight in your ears. The band also tried out some mixes that pushed the vocals or a particular instrument way up front, and of course long, low, reverberant welcomes from Edip's echo-covered voice. CD $12 SKU:20586

COOLEY MUNSON- In Debt (70s So Cal. hippie psych ) -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS Bill Cooley and Alan Munson were two friends in Santa Barbara, California, living their early 20s writing folk-rock songs for their pleasure. That was 1972, and they decided to put these songs into the studio, self-produce the album and press a tiny quantity of 500 pieces hoping it could help getting a contract with a major company. This never happened, as you would have guessed, and sure this fact helped making their sole album, In Debt, a major collectable item in the folk-rock and psychedelic rock listeners and collectors. Today, original copies of this record fetch quite interesting sums when changing hands in record fairs or internet auctions. Being a private pressing, you can easily imagine it's not a big production, but no care. This album has the right feel and you won't need anything else to make it one of your faves. All tracks are original compositions, and the style is very personal. It's folk-rock, but many tracks are quite psychedelic too, in their own way. But don't look close for influences, they will not come to mind that easily. Bill and Alan had their own psychedelic folk-rock style, and the raw, sometimes amateurish feel that these recordings have give the album the final distinctive touch. Never reissued before in any format, now here we come with a splendid reissue, with the collaboration of the guys. Remastered sound taken from the master tapes, CD version comes with booklet and outer slimcase. Alan Munson kept going the folk-rock way and released two solo albums during the '70s too, which we are also re-releasing along with In Debt. CD $14 SKU:25186

COUNTRY-ST (1971 forgotten gem)Label:SLIPSTREAM Originally released in 1971 this forgotten gem is ripe for rediscovery. COUNTRY were originally a duo called Fondiler & Snow. Both Michael Fondiler and Tom Snow had already played with legends. Michael had been a member of the pre-SPIRIT bands The Red Roosters and Western Union whilst Tom had been an original member of Gram Parsons' band THE LIKE in 1965. With the addition of Michael's brother Steve, Bobby De Simone and Ian Espinoza they became COUNTRY and produced this marvellous album which holds similarities to the music of James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Bread. Impressed by the band, Peter Asher soon took over their leadership but despite recording another fine album their record label pulled the plug. Tom Snow stayed with Peter Asher for a solo career and later became a million selling songwriter for the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, Cher... The list goes on and on. This Remastered album includes all original tracks, plus five bonus tracks that have never previously been released. One of these gems, 'SYLVIE', features Lowell George on slide guitar. SPIRIT's and JO JO GUNNE's Mark and Matt Andes also offer guest performances. Tom Snow tells Country's story in the extensive liner notes and recalls his days with Gram Parsons. Track Listing: 1. MUTANTS (FINLAND)- DEATHRACE 3000 (Psychedelic voodoo groove;!) Label:GREEN COOKIE Funky garage. Afrogaragemambo. Psychedelic voodoo groove; Finland's The Mutants are tough to pin down when it comes to genres. The band originally started as an instrumental garage rock band in 1998. The line-up was completed by a percussionist and a saxophone player. The band released their debut 7" 'Le Mutant' in the summer of 2001 on Legal Records after which the band has released a bunch of singles and appeared on compilations. From on line review -- When I hear the term "xian psych" I usually head the other direction, however this outfit sucked me with the mind blowing psych anthem "Life Everlasting" on a Gear Fab comp and I had no choice but to buy the album. Disappointed? Not in the least, more like surprised! Great fuzz psych with good tunes and some guitar work that would make Blue Cheer blush. NEUTRAL SPIRITS -ST (1972 private press psych jewel)Label:GEAR FAB One of those privately pressed jewels from 1972, with a great weird garagy PSYCHEDELIC sound, we are all hunting after. Doors-inspired music with great fuzz sound and distorted guitars. Their songs range from songs of protest such as 'Speaking Freeley' and Flying' to the 7 minute fuzz-fest 'Flower'. Only 500 originals were pressed 400 of which were destroyed in a fire, so remaining originals are very hard to come by and go for the 4 digits in bucks, and still hardly ever pop up. OXFORDS - FLYING UP THROUGH THE SKY PART ONE (Jefferson Airplane style 1970) w ten bonus tracks!-Label:GEAR FAB When this Louisville, Kentucky Band recorded this classic 1970 LP, they also recorded 16 additional tracks between 1967 and 1971. These newly discovered tapes offer us more of their unique Spanky & Our Gang, Jefferson Airplane, and The Mamas & The Papas sound influences. All never before released. Oxfords sole 1970 privately pressed album is one of the best late 60s US psychedelic soft rock albums. Excellent male female vocals and complex original songs. SOUL INC - Vol 1 (NOT SOUL! 60s psych from Lousville!-Label:GEAR FAB Don't let the name fool you!! SOUL INC were one of the biggest bands in Louisville during the 60's and released 7 singles between '65-'69. They recorded much more that was recently discovered in the studio archives. Great PSYCHEDELIC music that shows the band transition from mid- to late 60's when they became 'Elysian Field'. CD $10 SKU:22032

STONE GARDEN -ST (US. 60s HEAVY PSYCH) Label:GEAR FAB For the late 60’s, there wasn’t a much heavier record thanthis amazing slab of US Heavy Psychedelic/Acid Rock!Stone Garden hailed from a state one could assume was among the last touched by the chemical stimulant-inspired revolution in rock music in the '60s. But you wouldn't be able to tell that from Stone Garden. Cobbled together from live and studio recordings made between 1969 and 1971, the reissue collects virtually every available note by the pack of Idaho teens, including both sides of their lone, extremely rare 45 ("Oceans Inside Me"/"Stop My Thinking"). Aside from that single, all the tracks remained unreleased until appearing as a superbly packaged 1998 Rockadelic LP, reproduced in its entirety on this Gear Fab CD. So is it worth all the archival fuss? Mostly, yes, it really is. Stone Garden is an always blistering and often thrilling racket that splits the difference between the plundering depths of hard rock and the mind-excursion highs of psychedelia (or, more precisely, acid rock), carving out a nifty Western patch of its own. A heady trick for a group of boys from the potato state in the year of Woodstock, and, if dated in minor ways, still body-rattling music decades after the fact. There is some dense riffage (the re-recorded version of "Oceans," "It's a Beautiful Day," an awesome "Woodstick") that comes as close to proto-heavy metal shredding as anything else recorded in or around 1969 (that includes Steppenwolf, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, and Blue Cheer), and the band had both an affinity and knack for scintillating, dual-guitar electric blues ("Stop My Thinking"), although the album's sole outright misstep, "SF Policeman Blues," apes early Grateful Dead a little too closely. But there is plenty of consciousness-expanding, detail-intriguing, and ominous melodic shifts, nifty but queasy coats of echo, Zappa-esque avant-garde effects ("Bastard"), and surprisingly mature and hip lyrics -- even if the performances are not exactly nuanced. Subtle Stone Garden was not. But the music can cut you off at the knees and knock the wind out of you, which is pretty impressive stuff. CD $10 SKU:18837

TAYLES - Who Are These Guys? (1971 blues psych)-Label:GEAR FAB From Madison, Wisconsin came this merry band of musicians. Includes all tracks from their great 1971 LP plus four songs from their double 45 gatefold. Hey, two of these songs were banned from radio!!!!FROM TOP 25 POP MADISON ALBUMS OF ALL TIME:
13. Tayles Who Are These Guys? (1972) Recorded live at the Nitty Gritty, this collection of blues-rock captures the musical feel of Vietnam-era Madison. Paul Reyzold's organ added pyschedelia that was as bright as a tie-dyed shirt; Scott Eakin's flute was as groovy as a VW bus. Jeremy Wilson started the band in 1966. Like hippie culture, Tayles faded away near the end of 1972. CD $10 SKU:19456

BRIGG- ST (collectable psych/folk/hard-rock album from 1973.)Label:GUERSSEN First ever legit vinyl reissue, sanctioned by the band members, of this collectable psych/folk/hard-rock album from 1973. Brigg were a rural Pennsylvania folk-tinged psychedelic band formed by three high school friends: Rob Morse, Jeff Willoughby, and Rusty Foulke. In 1973, they borrowed the money to record their first album together. They called it Brigg after one member saw the name in a dream. It was recorded at a grocery store converted into a 4-track studio. The photos for the cover were taken in a purportedly haunted house in Danville. The band members pressed 1000 copies and sold some to their friends but never played a live show together. They divided the remaining copies between them and went their separate ways. Several decades later, the Brigg album became a collector's item and was bootlegged all over the world. Original artwork in heavy cardboard sleeve; Insert with liner notes and photos.
