QUATERMASS (ST (70s power prog-rock trio) DBL Label:AKARMA Repress. Quartermass made one self-titled album in 1970 and that was the end of them. Its a shame that they came and went so fast. They could have been very popular with the proper management and backing, but it was not meant to be. This group was a power prog-rock trio along the lines of the early Atomic Rooster. The trio was John Gustafson (vocals, bass), Mick Underwood (drums), and Pete Robinson (keyboards). John Gustafson voice was similar to Ian Gillans. Their sound was not only interesting and captivating; it was complete and full-bodied with the three people and the three instruments that they played. We can only wonder what could have happened if they met with more success and continued to develop. We are glad that we have this great album to enjoy and to add to our prog-rock classics lists LP $29 SKU:21881

TOKYO BLUES BREAKERS-ST (Japanese time warp 1969!)Label:SOUNDFLAT Three mad dogs that have time-warped from 1969! They break the Delta blues, '60s garage, Motow n, punk - because they love them! Also, they love VOX and Rickenbacker and Theremin. (but they don't break these... Because expensive!). These guys are what you can call the forefront of the next Japanese garage scene! Experience wild rhythms, runaway guitars and beautiful croaky voices from beginning till end. Alongside songs like 'Lead Guitar Side Guitar' with cheeky harmonica and a cool rhythm & beat and a heavy portion of garagepunk Japanese-style you will find incredibly catchy and highly addictive tunes like 'Yardbirds Is Playing At My House' that once you've heard them, you'll catch yourself humming weeks later! The trio also included a wild cover-version of Manfred Mann's '5-4-3-2-1' and a lo-fi pop-punky version of the hit-song/ballad 'Mata Au Hi Made' by Japanese Tom Jones Kiyohiko Ozaki that fit in with their original songs perfectly. TRIPSICHORD -ST(California 60s/70s DOUBLE LP GATEFOLD Label:AKARMA Repress! This is one of the most experienced Californian groups in the '60s/'70s, although they were almost disregarded. This album was originally released on two different labels, Janus and San Francisco Sound, therefore a lot of confusion has been made about its very first edition. Anyway, both of them are rare and expensive. This album and a few 7"s are actually everything Tripsichord ever recorded. They were produced by Matthew Katz (who had produced Moby Grape) and their music is based on that acid and psychedelic sound from California, very close to Quicksilver Messenger Service, with its weaving of excellent quality solos. They weren't lucky and never got the success they deserved, but they have all the characters of a great band LP $28 SKU:21883

LUCK OF EDEN HALL -SUBTERRENE(swirling psych magic )-Label:MYOPIC Originally formed in the early nineties, the band reformed in 2002 resulting in this album which is brimming with swirling psych magic played and produced by Greg Curvey and Mark Lofgren. After the reverbed and phased psychedelia of "Baby Moon", the album lifts off with some dextrous guitar playing that levitates "Device" high in the clouds, a rippling flute adding shards of light to the tune. A poppier Steve Hillage vibe is created on the title track, the drums well up in the mix as the guitar drives through the song with reckless abandon, held together by huge washes of synths that reverberate across the room. Consistently strong throughout, fans of Tyrnaround, Dukes Of Stratosphear, Reefus Moon, or Bevis Frond will not be disappointed, as the album is a hook-laden psych-pop classic with a wonderfully rich and warm production that tumbles out of the speakers with lysergic glee. On the drifting "Whereever Sends" a west-coast feel is magically invoked, the instruments dancing around each other like sunlight on crystal, full of blissful thoughts.
