TWILIGHTERS -NOTHING CAN BRING ME DOWN (60s Texas garage psych monster) -Label:MILKCOW This wonderful reissue comes with a '60s styled company-sleeve and a postcard. Back on 7-inch, here's a brain melting Texas garage psych monster from 1968. 'Nothing Can Bring Me Down' became an instant cult hit when it started appearing on garage punk comps, and Pussy Galore and others bashed out their cover versions. The Twilighters recorded this sole 45 at a club named Mark VII, also the name of the record label. When the guys entered the recording space they only had one original song, the moody garage ballad 'I Need You'. Front man Jay White wrote 'Nothing...' on the spot, since the single also needed a flip. However, the result, a fuzzed up mixture of psych à la Hendrix and Cream, and '60s punk, was so exciting that it became the A-side. 45 RPM $12 SKU:18372

T MODEL FORD- Taledragger (Muddy Waters style blues)Label:ALIVE AllMusic Review by James Allen“ On The Ladies Man, T-Model Ford comes off more than ever as a living testament to the sustaining power of the blues” Playing tunes associated with Muddy Waters ("Two Trains") and Muddy's right-hand man Little Walter ("My Babe"), and revisiting quirky original tunes he has recorded in the past like opening cut "Chicken Head Man," Ford brings to bear his rough-and-ready vocal style and forceful acoustic fingerpicking with an intensity that suggests a performer a good few decades younger." SOUL EXPLOSIVES-Tryin' To Get Down/Ain't No Sunshine-Label:BIG CROWN "Big Crown Records is proud to present a reissue of the highly sought-after, very rare, and only release by Texas funk band, The Soul Explosives. Active in 1971 and 72, The Soul Explosives were a high school group from Kingsville, TX led by high school senior Skip Frazier. Their main goal was to play a neighborhood known as the 'The Cut' in nearby Corpus Christi, where there were a number of Soul & R&B clubs. They paid for the recording and pressing of the 45 which was done by a tiny local Tejano studio/label, Bormeh. Copies of the record were given to friends and sold at shows. In '72 Skip decided to leave the group to pursue his college studies and they disbanded not long after. The A Side 'Tryin To Get Down' is a lo-fi funk gem with all the makings of an underground classic. Driving drums and blown out vocals somewhere between encouraging and liberating are sure to peak funk fans ears. The B Side, an absolutely smashing cover of 'Ain't No Sunshine', is nothing short of a must have. The Soul Explosives nearly instrumental cover might just be the toughest version on a 45. Another Big Crown sureshot." 45 RPM $12 SKU:17825

CIRCUS DAYS VOL. 1- 6 CD box set ( 60s psych) Label:PARTICLES A Compendium of Pop Psych Curios: 104 tracks of weird and wonderful British pop-sike. Contained herein is a library of lost and rare recordings from the Great British psychedelic era; a compendium of pop-sike curios and exotic aural pleasures from the past has been assembled for the connoisseur with regard to the ladies and gentlemen of particular fancy and grand distinction. It was 1966 - music was becoming richer, subtler, more experimental, far more interesting. The industry got into gear and a myriad of one-off records came tumbling out. Some were plain tongue-in-cheek joke psychedelia, whilst others were creating something magnificent. Thats what you have here: 104 tracks, all remastered, the cream of the crop circle, some wacky, like Peter Cook & Dudley Moore on Bedazzled - from the film that caught the spirit of the era (A sample lyric: Girl: "You drive me wild." Guy: "You fill me with inertia.")Other gems come from the unearthing of one-offs. Recorded in a swathe of bouncy, all-you-need-is Pop-pirate good humour, and a floppy hat innocence, the flood of summer-fun, go-go goodies lasted until the early 70s. While the 'real' groups became ever more laid back (some almost horizontal), pop-sike flourished. And finally, theres a smattering of curious Mystery Tracks throughout. This is the OFFICIAL box set, with original sleeve artwork faithfully re-produced and sanctioned by the original Strange Happenings label. Fantastically entertaining, in-depth, well-researched 56-page book written by the founder of cult label Dig The Fuzz, with rare, never-before-seen photos of the artists COMP CD $35 SKU:12448

SONGS THE CRAMPS TAUGHT US- VARIOUS VOL.3Label:CATO "For many of us with a penchant for raw 50s and 60s garage and rock n roll, the Cramps were our doorway to a whole new world of sleazy guitar music. It didn't matter that they hadn't actually written most of the songs, to paraphrase the band themselves "they had good taste". They'd tracked down these amazing old records, reworked some of them, merged others and stamped them boldly as their own. Many different comps have appeared over the years that have gathered the original source of the Cramps trash genius. This brilliant series spread over three CDs is the latest and gathers much of what's previously appeared but adds a few more gems too.Imagine the songs of the Cramps, dripping sleaze and spoof horror and then strip back some of the campness and modern production techniques and you'll get an idea of the raw sound of most of the material on these CD COMP LP $18 SKU:18110
