STEVE AND THE BOARD - Complete - with 21 page booklet Label:PLAYBACK The Australian band Steve & the Board made some British Invasion-style records in the mid-'60s, getting some success in Australia with the singles "The Giggle Eyed Goo" and "I Call My Woman Hinges 'Cause She's Something to Adore." All the members were in their late teens when they recorded for the Spin label, and their progress was no doubt eased by having a lead singer, Steve Kipner, whose dad Nat Kipner was the head of Spin Records. The group wasn't a mere manufactured boy band, though, as in fact much of their material was original, contributed by several members (though most often guitarist Carl Keats). In their blend of British R&B and pop/rock influences, their recordings were fairly solid straight-ahead rock that criss-crossed attributes of the Beatles, the Byrds, Merseybeat, and raunchier groups like the Pretty Things. LITTLE MURDERS- Go Aussie Power Pop ) -Label:OFF THE HIP Little Murders were Australia’s own version of the new wave of power pop in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were the premier mod band on the Melbourne independent music scene at that time and thrilled fans with releases such as Things Will Be Different, 100 Drugs and She Let’s Me Know. Although the band broke up in the mid 1980s, they reformed at various times over the next 25 years. But since the release of the anthology, Stop Plus Singles, on Off The Hip Records in 2009, along with a permanent line up (in actual fact, longer than any other incarnation), the band have recorded the power pop splendour of Dig For Plenty in early 2011 and played around Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.
Amidst the touring, Little Murders have been regularly checking into Audrey Studios, recording the tracks that make up their new album GO. GO is a play on the title Little Murder’s first album from 1985 STOP. Then it looked like the end. And now….Produced by Craig Pilkington and featuring eleven new songs from the power pop pen of Rob Griffiths, GO picks up where Dig For Plenty left off. This time with more power in the pop. Kicking off with what was the flip side of their last single, Too Many Times is a neat punchy opener reminiscent of Joe Strummer meets the New York Dolls. From there the Murders play with garage rock in White Train, praise the sun in Waiting For The Sun and ride the guitars and horns on Mean Season. The single Baby It’s You explodes in a ball of rock and roll sunshine. Joey from Dollsquad turns up to sing a duet on Real Good Time. And that sums up the album. A Real Good Time. Or perhaps you’re more familiar with their 2004 release “Guilty As Sin” with Perth legend Dom Mariani (Stems/Someloves) on guitar/vocals, which came out in Australia on Off The Hip and in America on green vinyl on the BOMP subsidiary Alive Records. This new album comes from another new lineup: Tony Dyer (vocals/guitar), Simon Kay (lead guitar), Dave Hine (bass), plus mainstay skinsman Mick Baty.
What is the common denominator this time ‘round you ask, simple, Redd Kross. Mick runs Melbourne’s iconic record store and label - Off The Hip – in late 2012, in the space of a week, three like minded heads dropped in and bought the latest Redd Kross album “Researching The Blues”. Striking up an immediate rapport, each time Mick asked “do you play”? With three “yes’s” Mick saw this as a sign that it was indeed time to get his beloved Stoneage Hearts happening again.2013 was spent with fortnightly Thursday rehearsals on the record store stage, honing rough demos into fully fledged powerpop nuggets. In 2014 the fellas laid down the new album at the world class Thornbury studios Head Gap. ‘Hung Up (on you)’ contain elements of The Las, Smithereens, Plimsouls played in classic Australian guitar pop style. Exiled in the A.C.T., former The Dolly Rocker Movement bass-player
Ricky Tombstone started writing tunes on a beat up old guitar to while
away the hours of boredom in the nation’s capital. A chance meeting on
a Friday night saw Ricky become reacquainted with Ramblin’ Dan of
Sydney’s rock, country, garage and punk finest, The Dunhill Blues.
After heaps of beers and settling in for an unforgettable live
performance of The Dunhill Blues the very next night, the idea of The
Tombstone Ramblers was born.The Tombstone Ramblers first, brief, incarnation featured Daniel
Poulter of The Dolly Rocker Movement on drums, Piers Cornelius of The
Laurels on guitar, M. Walter Walters of The Dolly Rocker Movement on
organ and Ricky on bass guitar. A line-up change saw Ramblin’ Dan take
up the drums for The Tombstone Ramblers while Ricky moved to guitar
and Luke Havill of Milkmaids joined us on bass guitar. M. Walter
Walters was, and forever will be, the man behind the organ. The
Ramblers first took to Dan’s shed then to The Boneyard, a shipping
container in Sydney’s industrial wasteland to hone their skills and

AHBEZ, EDEN- EXOTIC WORLD OF ( EARLY 60S HIPPIE!) - Label:DIONYSUS A compilation of rare Eden Ahbez performed and penned exotica tracks, several never before issued from the late '50s-early '60s! Full annotation, Limited! Eden Ahbez (born George Alexander Aberle) was an American songwriter and recording artist of the 1940s-1960s, whose lifestyle in California was influential on the hippie movement. Ahbez is best known for composing the song 'Nature Boy', which became a #1 hit in 1948 for Nat 'King' Cole and has since become a pop and jazz standard. LP $14 SKU:16172

THE AVENGERS VI were a clean-cut surf band from Anaheim, Calif., whose one and only album, Real Cool Hits, was issued in 1966 as a promo for Good Humor ice cream. The group's name wasn't even mentioned on the cover although it was pictured on the kick drum. The LP, originally issued on the Mark 56 label, was sold from the Good Humor ice cream trucks and has since become a highly-valued collector's item. In 2008 an original copy went for $315 in an online auction. What set THE AVENGERS VI apart from many of the other surf groups was their superior musicianship. Guitarist Jim Ferguson was reported to practice eight hours a day while organist Mike DeYoung had formal musical training and a wide knowledge of classical music. The group's repertoire, which encompassed covers of popular surf instrumentals, mood music, movie themes and some first rate originals, attracted both teens and adults to their appearances in southern California. THE AVENGERS VI had largely been forgotten, except by die-hard collectors, until Bacchus Archives reissued Real Cool Hits on both vinyl and CD in 2001. The vinyl reissue has itself become collectible, bringing prices of $30 and up, which is why we've decided to repress this gem! (Thanks to Bill Kay – All That Jazz blogspot for the write-up)
