'Stone Tape' is a concept album inspired by "Stone Tape Theory" (or "residual haunting"), theorized by Thomas Charles Lethbridge in 1961. The archaeologist, parapsychologist and explorer developed the idea that inanimate materials can absorb energy from living beings, and that this mental electrical energy, released during emotional or traumatic events, could somehow be "stored" in such materials and "reproduced" under certain conditions. The hypothesis has been known as "Stone Tape Theory" since the cult 1972 TV screenplay 'Stone Tape' by Nigel Neale. Recorded in Powderhorn Minneapolis, The Vicarage, West Yorkshire and The Experimental Health Unit. VISITORS (AUSTRALIA)-ST (Radio Birdman style Aussie rock and roll)-Label:CITADEL The Visitors were part of a unique time and place in Sydney rock and roll, the likes of which no-one will see again. Venues were opening to what would become a flood of raw and energetic music. After splitting up in England, Radio Birdman's surviving members individually drifted back to Sydney in mid to late 1978. Hundreds of punk and loud high energy rock bands had appeared on the scene, easily going through doors that had been kicked open two years earlier. Many were copies of the style-obsessed English punk scene. Others slavishly copied their (often narrow) perception of what they thought Birdman had been. Some would say that the DIY ethos, not artistic genre, was the Radio's most lasting legacy. Most missed the point. Radio Birdman was a much more musical entity than the razor blade vanguard of punk. The band's demise - and posthumous growth of its legend - left a vacuum in Sydney that demanded to be filled. In a sense, the Visitors did just that. Thanks to this re-issue, the Visitors live on in the recorded sense. A band, or some manifestation of it, may one day play again. It's not been ruled out. Mark sisto (lead vocal and former Radio Birdman Minister of Defence), for one, is moved by the level of interest the band still prompts. "It surprises me and it's touching that there's been as much positive feedback from it as it has gotten older. Why? Perhaps it's because people were so young then, I suppose. Perhaps for many that it was a significant first for them - like your early teenage love that you don't forget? Aw shucks. And also, we were good." CD $14 SKU:21670
