ANIMALS - Animalism ( 1966 w 11 bonus tracks ) -Label:FLAWED GEMS Released in November 1966 by MGM Records, 'Animalism' (not to be confused with the group's earlier UK-issued 'Animalismus'or its American counterpart, 'Animalization') was only ever issued in America, and came out after the group split-up and thus remained almost totally unnoticed. Recorded in 1966, the album proved to be a glorious musical high point, as well as an end point for the band. All of the members had begun growing in their musicianship and developing a distinctive sound, especially guitarist Hilton Valentine and keyboardist Dave Rowberry. In addition the young Frank Zappa arranged (and almost certainly played on) two tracks. This CD edition has been carefully mastered from the original MONO (and way superior to the stereo) vinyl. CANTERBURY GLASS- Sacred Scenes and Characters ( 60s Brit psych prog w bonus tracks ) -Label:FLAWED GEMS Canterbury Glass was a great British, late psychedelic/early progressive band that recorded one fantastic album in 1968, which sadly remained unreleased at the time (until 2007) after they lost their momentum when trying to choose between Polydor and CBS for a record deal. This unjustly forgotten band focused on long tracks, complex structures and instrumental interplay and most of an album was filled with truly amazing Pink Floyd/Caravan/The Moody Blues-like sounds with dynamic arrangements, changing moods, prominent Hammond organ sounds, mellotron, flute, hypnotic bass notes and very atmospheric voices. This edition offers the complete, original 6-tracks version, after two missing tracks were found by the band's leader in 2010. CD $19 SKU:16397

FUSE - ST ( 70s rock with 2 future members of Cheap Trick!) -Label:FLAWED GEMS This forgotten US band made a little-known, but great album for Epic in the early 1970's and is mostly remembered for including Rick Nielson and Tom Peterson, two future members of Cheap Trick. The album is an amazing late '60s hard rock/early metal recording inspired by the early progressive movement, with plenty of heavy, but catchy guitar riffs and classical-influenced Hammond and mellotron passages against the very solid rhythm section. As a bonus this expanded CD-edition contains two tracks from a 1969 single. CD $18 SKU:16398

LISTENING - ST ( 60s US psych ) -Label:FLAWED GEMS The only album from this forgotten Bosstown band was released in 1968 by Vanguard Records and is considered by many a connoisseur as one of the best US psych albums ever. The band filled the grooves with accomplished musicianship, winding through complex period psychedelia with effected Hammond organ sounds, distorted guitars, weird sonic changes and a nice balance of trippy and wasted sounds. With an addition of ear-catching blues and jazz riffs and even a touch of Latin, all rolled up into one mind-bending musical experience, sometimes similar to the first two Ultimate Spinach albums. Unfortunately the album vanished without a trace and the band split-up. Soon after keyboard player Michael Tschudin formed the band Cynara (and became a respected producer) while bass player Walter Powers emerged in the post-Lou Reed line-up of the Velvet Underground. TOAD - ST ( fantastic 70s psych/ hard rock ) w rare tracks -Label:FLAWED GEMS The fantastic debut album by this hard rocking band from Switzerland (featuring two members of Brainticket and Italian guitarist Vic Vergeat) was released early 1971 by the Hallelujah label (and RCA Victor in UK). The music is a raw and very energetic mix of early heavy metal, blues and psychedelia, compared to early Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix but much intensive. Almost all the tracks were characterized by constant heavy sinister riffing, extended driving guitar solos and thunderous drumming. Golden Voice was a custom label and state-of-the art studio based in Pekin, Illinois. In the 1960s-'70s, countless garage bands from the area recorded there, releasing custom-made 45s in very limited quantities. This vibrating scene had not been documented, 'til the release of this 15-track compilation. The music here is prime cut hard psychedelia, punk-a-delic sounds and proto hard-rock from the late '60s-early '70s with lot of fuzz-wah guitars, groovy organs and effects. CORPORATION - Get On Our Swing ( amazing 70s psych ) SAALE -Label:AGE OF AQUARIUS Second album by the band that managed to put Milwaukee in the musical map of the world. This is another story of a band who could have been at the top... and sadly weren't. Despite recording their debut album with Capitol and opening for Cream on their North-American Tour, the record flopped and the band had to turn to the small label Age of Aquarius. The recordings that were made for their second Capitol album were spread between this and their third and final album. Any fan of psychedelic music will welcome this -- their music can be compared to bands the likes of Iron Butterfly or Cream, and at times to Freeborne. Really impressive musicianship by all band members, with Pat McCarthy on the B-3 Hammond deserving special consideration, and a psychedelic vibe all around. NOVELLS - That Did It! (Lt ed obscure L.A. 60s garage psych ) - Label:SWEET DANDELION (UK) An obscure garage band from Los Angeles, released locally in 1968, who still remain relatively unknown within collector circles. The Novells offer a nice garage / psych mix, with a certain pop side. A mix of original compositions and some covers, the album delivers a strong, effective organ sound and some nice fuzz guitar, giving it a real psychedelic Doors vibe. Surprisingly well produced for being a private release, makes for a nice discovery for any psychedelic garage collector. STALIN- Stalinism - (Rare 80s Japanese punk ) Label:NOISE NOT MUSIC One of the most seminal Japanese punk bands ever, Stalin formed in 1980 and blew away all previous attempts at Japanese punk thanks to their frontman Michiro Endo's crazy on-stage perfomances and their unique style. Even though by the release of their first LP 'Trash' in 1981 Stalin moved towards a more hardcore/punk direction, which resulted in whats known to be their best work - the classic 'Stop Jap' LP from 1982, Stalin's early singles are one of the best examples of what would be 15 years later defined as killed by death punk rock. Originally released in 1987, the 'Stalinism' LP collected their first flexi 7", the 'Stalinism' EP, the 'Fish Inn' flexi single, along with 'Chicken Farm' their contribution to the legendary international hardcore compilation 'Welcome To 1984', to whom Stalin owe a good portion of their cult status.
