JEANIES-Amilee/Bad Side (pop)Label:HOZAC "We are proud to present yet another incredible pop band that seems to have eluded the masses but is a strong contender for the crown of that genre without even being challenged. The Jeanies are a NYC anomaly, yet even with such good company such as Games and 1-800 Band they are still very much under the radar for most pop fans, so it's with great pleasure to welcome this bunch of young upstarts into the fold, as once their sound soaks in, you won't be pulling yourself out of its clenches any time soon. As a band that could easily confuse you upon first listen as to its year of origin, The Jeanies burst out last year with a self-titled LP & tape release that took most folks by surprise, an unrestrained, powerful and familiar tone stretched perfectly across a collection of songs that were instantly addictive, incredibly intricate, and possessed devastatingly perfect details, linking these songs to the echoes of the past they encapsulate so well. As a band with little connection to the veteran cognoscenti of the underground pop consortium, The Jeanies are a refreshing blast of pop purity, combining the greatest nuances of the old wave into a rock-solid foundation of what's next." 45 RPM $8 SKU:17930
MADE IN JAPAN-Instant Hit (Plimsouls style power pop)Label:HOZAC Taking cues from UK power pop band such as Buzzcocks & Nick Lowe, as well as LA locals Paul Collins Beat & the Plimsouls, Made in Japan carved out a little spot of their own, despite fleeting stardom, and luckily managed to record an armload of original songs before disbanding, to which we've got two immediate classics for you on this archival 7 inch, so dig in and even if you 'don't want no sensitive shit' you need these 'Instant Hits' right between your ears, never before released in any form, first time on vinyl, where they belong.' - VictimofTime.com" 45 RPM $10 SKU:17928

CRYSTALAUGUR-Terranaut (rare 70s psych)Label:OUT-SIDER Includes insert with rare photos and detailed liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Got Kinda Lost, Ugly Things), explaining the fascinating story behind Crystalaugur and debunking many myths and false rumors about the band and their only album. Cargill says, "Terranaut is a rollicking, rumbling and lightly ramshackle bomb of cosmic teenage hard rock informed by an infatuation with the early rumblings of progressive rock (given a proto-punk edge by the discontent of the group's constituents)." Featured in Hans Pokora's Record Collector Dreams book with the maximum scale rarity. CD $17 SKU:17922
D.R. HOOKER-The Truth ( 70’s psych ) - Label:VEALS & GEEKS (Belgium) Genuine reissue of D.R. Hooker's The Truth (1972) from the original audio sources; new analog transfer with improved mastering. "It's a miracle any copies of this privately pressed album survived -- but be thankful it did, for here is an individual vision. Some people worry about when we'll run out of oil. A rather smaller proportion of us worry about when we'll run out of discoverable, deep-end thrills like this. There is just no way in the world items like Donald Hooker's 40-year-old privately pressed LP should even exist as a thing -- it more than likely only ran to about 99 copies in its original format, so how the hell did even one of those survive to create these new digital and analogue versions decades later? Connecticut-based Hooker -- a tall, slim hippy with a history of substance abuse -- was much given to wearing the sort of austere robe he sports on the sleeve, a fairly outré move even then. In early 1972 he hired a gang of local scene musicians to flesh out his wonderful songs and after a few brief rehearsals the band began recording. As soon as they were done they split -- some never even heard the finished album, and what a treat they missed. Hooker's arrangements are truly beautiful; a simple, swinging pop song like Weather Girl exists somewhere betweenthe Doors and Curtis Mayfield, whereas The Bible ('If they're knocking the Bible, be sure they are bent/ Just see and you'll understand the book is heaven sent') has the propulsive drive of a pained George Harrisonballad crushed up against some of Neil Young's freeform, string-banging joy. Then there's The Sea, with its rolling religious allegories and the remarkable Free which marries a growling hard rock throb to a vampirically groovy synth line. Hooker's masterpiece is Forge Your Own Chains, which is part conga-led, lounge-funk soul and part, questing psychedelic dream. To think this entirely individual worldview would have once languished, unloved, in a series of under-the-racks cutout bins. And how much more magic like this is there out there?" --Rob Fitzpatrick, "The 101 strangest records on Spotify: DR Hooker -- The Truth," The Guardian, April 24, 2013 CD $16 SKU:17925

PAUL MARTIN- It Happened(1966-67 garage anthems)Label:OUT-SIDER 1966-67 garage anthems, jangly folk-rock and baroque pop courtesy of prolific songwriterPaul Myerberg aka Paul Martin. "There a new man in town? Martin!" So began the liner notes from the picture sleeve of his second 45 record in 1967. Actually, Paul Martin started life as Paul Myerberg. Growing up in Manhattan, Paul was influenced by the exciting music of the day, like the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. In the mid-sixties Paul started writing and recording some impressive demos which ran the gamut from garage-punk, to jangly folk-rock, soul-pop and baroque, orchestrated pop. Many of these were cut on 4-track tape at Tower Sound Studios in midtown Manhattan with the help and guidance of the skilled jazz musician, Frank Owens. While at Tower, Paul met Herb Ostrow who released Paul's first single on the Impex label out of Philadelphia. "It Happened", a terrific garage number, came out in the spring of 1966. The following year, Paul released a second 45 on his own Rodin label - "The Last Remains Of Our Love" (another impressive, passionate garage gem), backed with "The Fairy Princess" (a dreamy pop-psych track). Almost 30 years later Paul's first album was released on the Distortions Records label in 1996, compiling tracks from his two sought-after singles plus studio demos and acetates. For many people, this was the first introduction to the music of Paul Martin. "An Aladdin's cave of well-crafted garage pop" -- Robert Cochrane (CultureCatch). CRAMPS, THE- KEYSTONE CLUB (1979)Label:INTERFERENCE Interference presents the entire KFAT-FM broadcast of this legendary early performance by The Cramps live at Keystone's Palo Alto from February 1979. This performance captures them in their grizzly, diabolical prime and before the release of their debut Songs The Lord Taught Us (1980). The Cramps quickly became one of America's finest subculture manifestations, bred from the madness of '50s and '60s B-movie trash at the turn of punk, Lux Interior and his motley crew of proto-gothic punks shred the walls of Keystone's Palo Alto with a toxic stew of sexed up rock 'n' roll. They were an exotic cabaret of B-movie histrionics and debonair, pursuing lurid and sexual gratification. Lux Interior personified, and externalized what lurked behind the snarl of every rockabilly hero and even in death, wears it well. In Elvis' strut, in James Dean's wince, somewhere in the back of Little Richard's throat were the Cramps - drooling all over your face and walking away with your soul. Professionally remastered. Includes background liners and rare archival photos. 180 gram colored vinyl. Edition of 500 (numbered).

NOSTRADAMUS-Aquarium (70s Hendrix infl lost gem)Label:SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY) he first vinyl release of Nostradamus's Aquarium, recorded in the early '70s. At the end of the sixties, Vienna, Austria's capital, was a special place to live and to grow up. While young people in England and the USA had been nurturing their "love & peace" movement, Vienna was stuck in the past. The youth in particular suffered under heavy conservatism during those years. But it could not prevent three high school buddies from forming a band that became the seed of Nostradamus. They focused mainly on its own music but of course there were lots of influences by bands such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, The Who, Free and later The Flock, Gentle Giant and King Crimson. Recordings were made at the Mueller and Bronner studios. Although Nostradamus received airplay and attention at the main radio stations, their producer turned down the offer to release the album on a German label. Shadoks is presenting for the first time on LP the amazing album by Nostradamus. With Mario Bottazzi and Hansi Lang on vocals, Rudy Kronfuss on guitars, Helmut Wind on bass, Hans Kalenda on drums, Heribert Wagner on violin plus others. This recording became a lost gem, full of underground vibes and very well produced. Beside Lazarus and Novaks Kapelle, this is one of the best Austrian albums. 180 gram vinyl. Comes in a heavy sleeve with a two-page insert. Edition of 500 (numbered). LP $38 SKU:17943
PRIX - Historic (mid 70s powerpop masterpiece)Label:HOZAC LP version. " 'Every time I close my eyes I fear this is just a sick dream, that there could really be such an incredible mid 70s power pop masterpiece like the Prix Historix album, and that it's really found its home on HoZac Archival, but yes it's really happening. What very well might be the most overlooked and unusually obscure offshoot of the Big Star family tree, Prix started off after Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven had done time in the last version of Big Star, with Hoehn contributing to the final Sister Lovers/3rd LP, and Tiven filling out the last live version of the band on their 1974 tour. The pair found themselves in 1975 looking for a new project as Tommy had sent in demos to Tiven, as well as having been called up to perform backup work on Tiven's production with Chilton's 1975 Bach's Bottom LP. Hoehn would sing backup on the Chilton songs on the Chilton recordings and vice-versa on the Prix recordings as they cross-pollinated a batch of songs that are best represented here on Historix than anywhere else. Chris Bell was roped in for production as well as guitar & backup vocals and with Rick Clark added in on bass, they headed into the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis to cut the recordings contained on this LP. Soon enough, this studio group made up an incredible collection of songs that would fluidly fade across projects, from all parties involved, very quickly in this especially creative mid 70s period, resulting in some of the most powerful rock'n roll of the 1970s, and that's really saying something. 'Sadly, Prix suffered the same bad luck as Big Star a few years prior, and only mustered two 7 inches releases in 1977 (ORK Records) and 1978 (Miracle Records) before wit's end was reached, and the rest of the truly jaw-dropping cuts on this album were hidden away on a CD-Only Japanese release in 2002 that didn't get much exposure outside of the Far East, until now. Thanks to the ORK Records Boxed set released by Numero Group last month, the world has been a bit more exposed to the previously released Prix songs, and if you like what you've heard so far, the other 3/4ths of the material contained here is going to really clean your clock. Included as well are three alternate version bonus tracks not included on the original CD release, and most of these tracks making their first appearance on vinyl here makes this LP a mandatory brick in your Memphis pop collection, and another essential piece in the Big Star family tree that's been unavailable for far too long.' -- VictimofTime.com" LP $18 SKU:17933
REP, MIKE AND THE QUOTAS-Hellbender 1975-78 (rare Velvets/Elevators style)Label:HOZAC "Central Ohio is far more of a schizophrenic hotbed of rock than the Library of Alexandria would lead you to believe. If you squint your eyes past the big city lights & skyscrapers (Rep likes to call them 'DIEscrapers'), you can see the outlines of the fertile Ohio Valley Crescent from which much Midwest D.I.Y. Punk emerged in the aftermath of a late-60's/early-70's gestation period. When digging into the Columbus strata of petrified 70's fossil-rock pure Columbus area underground entities bubble up from the deep: Jim Shepard, Ron House, Tommy Jay, Nudge Squidfish, The Quotas, Screaming Urge... many more. It seems that in some way or another Mike Rep has been intertwined with, 'Lovingly Fucking With', melding with, accompanying and/or leading the charge with many comrades in arms into the hipster Ohio Hell unknown for 40+ freaking years. Describing the allure of the mid-70s Ohio sound to the uninitiated isn't too difficult. Take the freaked-out post-13th Floor Elevators to Velvet Underground to Stooges to RFTT/Pere Ubu barbed wire bop and compound those influences with the dawn of home recording equipment access, a D.I.Y scene began to evolve. Just the right mixture of humidity, THC & malt liquor-fueled a primal pool ripe for spontaneous generation producing much fruit from apparent sterile soil as viewed from the overlook of big city coastal-dominated Hipsterism. Rep's homemade debut single 'Rocket To Nowhere' was recorded in 1975/'released' in 1978 and nobody noticed for the next ten years. Add to that the incredible Grim-O-Comix Sequence LP packed with angst ridden 1974 basement recordings (you need to drop everything and track it down if you haven't heard this unblinkingly look into the maw of the 70's loser teen maelstrom). HERE & NOW, on Hellbender you get a full primal serving of mostly previously unheard chaos, recorded between '75 and '78, that will no doubt cause future generations to marvel at just how one could be so brutally honest, raw, and wasted yet, live to chronicle it all. Hozac Archival is bringing these sounds to you now. Why? Because it IS the kind of mind-numbing, eyeball-popping guttural pure D.I.Y. rock & roll that saved so many miserable souls from succumbing to the 'American Dream' sham, and continue to inspire the D.I.Y. spirit in all who care to dare. Mike Rep & The Quotas / Hellbender- Very rare, mostly previously unheard recordings from 1975-78, very recently gleaned straight from the long thought lost original reel-to-reel master tapes." AHBEZ, EDEN- EDEN’S ISLAND (1960 Psych before the term was even invented!)Label:CAPTAIN HIGH RECORDS (AUSTRIA) It is 1960. Rock 'n' roll has just lost a couple of its protagonists during this and the previous year. The time of the great balladeers has just begun but soon will run out, due to the new and exciting beat invasion. In the US mainstream, the tiki culture has reached a certain peak and is about to collapse, but still goes strong, and with it comes the so-called "exotica" music, a crossover between smooth jazz and swing, Latin grooves, and haunting melodies rooted in global folk traditions, plus weird sound effects that often create a spooky jungle or dreamy island beach atmosphere. See palm trees growing out of your speakers; witness monkeys and parrots having fun in your room. eden ahbez (1908-1995) lived a consistent dropout and hippie lifestyle way before the movement was born in the mid '60s. As a poet and composer, he wrote the hit tune "Nature Boy" that gave Nat King Cole his first big success in 1948. On Eden's Island, originally released in 1960, he approaches the field of exotica music from a different point of view, creating an epic concept album about a utopian society living in peace and harmony on an island far away from the modern western world as we know it. Relaxed grooves; easy-listening swing; Latin patterns; peaceful, dreamy, even transcendent vocal melodies; tinges of folk music from around the world; and a whole color palette of mind-expanding sounds, with narrated lyrics and eden ahbez's wood flute. A truly unique effort; highly recommended to exotica aficionados who, for example, love Frank Hunter's 1959 White Goddess album. Psychedelic music before the term was even inventedLP $24 SKU:16753

HASHISH -A Product of Hashish- LTD ED OF 499 PSYCH -Label:SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN) LP version in deluxe silver foil sleeve. Limited edition of 499. Includes poster. The long-awaited debut album from Hashish. Top-class psychedelia, taking the genre to a new level with a sophisticated approach to Afro-funk grooves accompanied by dreamy, playful melodies that range through a spectrum of Scandinavian occult psychedelia, minimal synth, surreal electronic soul disco, and rare groove. Some have described Hashish as a project that picks up what Goat started. Welcome to tomorrow. The sounds transport the listener into a forgotten world where the future looks different from what it became. On his soft, subtle island capped with clouds of cool fire, Pan weaves his teachings with the wind and the sun, raining sacred melodies on the hearts and minds of humanity and bestowing desperate loves and yearnings with songs of sainthood and madness. Transient temples of the flesh, laughing at death, clothe our lives in fire. On rippling altars of skin we sensual magicians worship bright burning desire. Upon release the album sky rocketed straight into #1 on the official Swedish vinyl chart. LP $26 SKU:17696
