DILS-Dils Dils Dils ( 70s L.A punk )-Label:Dionysus e Dils were one of the biggest draws on the late '70s L.A. punk circuit. Led by harmonizing brothers Chip and Tony Kinman, the group played short, aggressive songs with political lyrics, often from a socialist viewpoint. During the group's four years of existence, it only released three 7-inch singles; all of their albums were posthumous, culled from the singles and various live performances. The group later evolved into Rank and File. CD $12 SKU:556

DINO & MONTEVIDEO BLUES - ST ( 70s Uruguay , 32-page booklet is packed with photos, detailed band history, and lyrics) - Label:LION The one and only album by Dino & Montevideo Blues (Macondo GAM 551, 1972) deserves to be a serious contender as one of the most important, and as it happens, most grooving, records ever released in Uruguay. But there is another reason that the album has attained exalted status: the incisive power of the lyrics, which are all the more impressive considering the national turmoil out of which they were created. Montevideo Blues was founded by Uruguayan song-writing legend Gastn "Dino" Ciarlo as a way to fuse the rawness of rock music with obscure native Uruguayan rhythms like malambo, milonga and chamarrita-a logical direction to pursue after Dino had attempted pop/candombe fusions in his solo recordings. "At the time, we were revolutionary and looking for change," said Dino. Montevideo Blues demonstrated an unyielding and combative attitude. During live shows in 1971, Dino often criticized the government-a level of political commitment reflected in the lyrics of the songs, some of the most radical ever set to music. Eduardo Mateo, the sacred monster of modern Uruguayan music, was succinct: "You have decided to prune the tree," he said to Dino. The album opens with one of Dinos most famous songs Milonga de Pelo Largo (Milonga of the Long Hair), a sinuous song transformed by the arrival of the dictatorship into a hymn of Uruguayan popular resistance. The rest of the album tracks have an edgy, atonal quality, with terrific unconventional angular guitar and a kind of ragged glory, all driven along by insistent grooving rhythms, whether from native drums or the clicking of drumsticks. Bonus tracks include beat-rockers Sendero de Rosas and Rubio es el color, from the rare "La Juventud" compilation album, as well as both sides of Dinos two early singles for RCA Vik. A 32-page booklet is packed with photos, detailed band history, and lyrics for this important Uruguayan band. CD $10 SKU:6892

DOMNICKS - Super Real (Stems DM3 Someloves etc SAALE digipack Label:CITADEL Their debut album Super Real marks a coming of age for The DomNicks. Forged by Perth based Dom Mariani and Nick Sheppard, the band is a powerful blend of swagger 'n' roll rock, soul and pop smarts. Mariani is best known as the driving force behind The Stems, DM3 and The Someloves, while Sheppard's pedigree boasts 80's Bristol punks The Cortinas and thereafter as Mick Jones' replacement in the 1983-86 line-up of The Clash. In 2007 the pair teamed up with Howard Shawcross (The Elks, The Riptides) on bass and Marz Frisina on drums, quickly developing into a very 'hang loose' combo. Playing a mix of Dom and Nick's originals with a spread of 60's and 70's garage and soul classics, they are a band of seasoned players punching well above their collective musical weight. Super Real continues in the tradition of The DomNicks' previous recording, Hey Rock 'n' Roller (Off The Hip 2009). Expanding on Hey Rock 'n' Roller's gutsy guitar driven sound, Super Real takes a ride through blues, soul, funk, and classic guitar pop influences to create one seamless musical journey fuelled by the vim and vigour of a noble era. Among the 12 tracks you'll find the Exile era Stones' sound of Reconcile, the brazen brass and swing of Let's Go Baby, soul flavours in I Wonder What You're Doin' Now, the straight ahead rollicking of Miracle and tantalising twists and turns of the electric sitar driven Winter. It's bound to cause the head and heart to shake. CD $16 SKU:14597

DRAGONFLY (USA) - ST ( 60s Calif heavy psych ) - Label:GEAR FAB At last a CD reissue of this killer cusp of the 60's heavy psych album from California. DREAM (NL) - Rebellion w bonus tracks ,rare photos and liners by Mike Stax -Label:PSEUDONYM Following the 2013 vinyl release, this mind blowing collection of Dutch psychedelia now also appears on CD, with extra tracks! The Dutch underground rock-scene of the late '60s-early '70s is laden with lost and forgotten treasures, but the music of the Dream -and their earlier incarnation Mothers Love- is among the most precious of these glimmering artifacts. Perhaps because The Dream released only three singles in their heyday, their music has not yet received the acclaim it deserves. This is rectified by the release of 'Rebellion', a comprehensive anthology of rare and previously unreleased recordings by The Dream and Mothers Love. On offer are 22 tracks, remastered from the original tapes, including all six of The Dream's single sides, among which the breathtaking psychedelic monster 'The Doting King' and the Hammond-powered rocker 'Rebellion (Can I Ask You One More Question)'. These acclaimed tracks are joined by the cream of Mothers Loves output, plus twelve exceptional unissued numbers recorded between 1967 and 1971. The CD booklet features rare photos and full liner notes (by Ugly Things' Mike Stax) based on an interview with band leader Floris Kolvenbach. 'Rebellion' makes clear that The Dream were among the most original and creative bands to come out of The Netherlands in the 1960s. TRACKS: 1. Highway To Heaven 3:24 2. Mad Man's Worries 3:50 3. EUBANK, JEFF- A Street Called Straight - ( 70s rock Trimble style ) Label:RIVERMAN MUSIC (KOREA) Originally released in 1983, this is Jeff Eubank's sole Kansas City private-press gem, originally produced only in an edition of 500 copies. Jeff Eubank is not a boner. A cursory read of the lyrics, printed in full in the space surrounding Mr. Eubank on the back cover artwork, more or less confirms this. They are literate and poetic without giving the reader anything to laugh at. At this point, any smart record digger will pull this particular title. A cursory needle drop may or may not reveal the album's potential. Depending on where the needle lands, it may sound like Crosby, Stills and Nash, or it may sound like the music we have come to know as "yacht rock," the smooth-sailing sounds of Christopher Cross, Hall & Oates, The Doobie Brothers, or Kenny Loggins. There's even a bit of the old, mellow, West Coast A.M.-rock canyon sound in there as well, with complex harmonies and a general hazy, lazy vibe. The truth behind this music's distinct sound is somewhere in between all this. There is an undeniably dated aspect to this music, an over-emphasis or over-reliance on being easy-going, but at the same time, it's wonderfully next to impossible to exactly pinpoint when or where this music was made. Like an '80s Tim Buckley on downers, Eubank's voice is smooth as silk, and there is no attack in his delivery; instead, his voice coasts along in a gentle, affable flow. But don't be so easily assuaged, when you get this album home and listen more closely, the conflict and rough edges of this music begins to reveal itself. Regarding the title, the artist himself explains it this way" "('rise and go to a street called straight' from Acts 9:10-19) finds Ananias being directed to risk harm and perhaps his life to help a man he knows to be dangerous. The implication of the fact that the name of the street was (and is) Straight (like straight and narrow) shouldn't be lost on someone who is reading carefully. As this relates to the lyrics of the song, we all have had to, at some time (or many times), move on in courage and leave the past behind (good or bad). In the case of these lyrics, there is hope: 'there is an end to this endless night... after all.'" Astral, unplaceable music that will fill your head-space, highly recommended for fans of Bobb Trimble, Robert Lester Folsom, and other purveyors of lost late '70s/early '80s music. CD $10 SKU:11742

Ian Gillan, in Disc & Music Echo, January 29th, 1972Timeless, heavy UK hard rock album from 1972, produced by Deep Purple's legendary frontman, Ian Gillan, originally released on the Decca/Deram label. It was Gillan who said of them: “Not many bands really excite me. But this one’s so raw and completely unpretentious. They make the biggest, bloodiest noise you can imagine, tempered with moments of extreme emotion.” And, of course, he’s right—the music is a menacing combination of over-the-top vocals and screaming lead guitars that could easily pass for something from the early British heavy metal scene—or something from the emotional hard core scene of the mid-1990's ('Primitive Man'). A favorite among vinyl collectors, the album is presented here in its ultimate glory, with all tracks taken from the original master tapes and housed in a high quality old-style gatefold cover; insert has liner notes written by bassist Paul Dean + rare photos. Rough, raw, and doomy! Wondering what happened to the scroll bars on your Mac’s desktop windows? Believe me, you’re not the only one.
In older versions of the Mac operating system (as in just a couple of years ago), prominent scroll bars were present at all times—handy for letting you know where you were in a lengthy web page, or for simply letting you know that there’s hidden content either above or below.

KATCH 22 - IT'S SOFT ROCK AND ALL SORTS ( 60s ) SAALE - Label: WAH WAH Unearthing another hidden gem from the Saga catalogue. Katch 22 were a bunch of young boys that produced the UK answer to the US Soft-Rock scene. It is ironic that a UK band can be so influenced by those US bands that were most highly under the influence of British popsike! Think of Harper's Bizarre, The Association, The Millenium or Eternity's Children even higher on tea! A surprisingly good production for a Saga pop/psych LP, the album is built up of excellent cover versions of some greats of the genre, paying tribute to the likes of The Left Banke ('Walk Away Rene'), Simon & Garfunkel / Harper's Bizarre ('Feelin' Groovy') or even Buffalo Springfield ('Go And Say Goodbye') and also of some good originals in the same vein. It is certainly an underated period piece that deserves a wider recognition, a great sounding album of orchestrated (and non orchestrated) pop sounds. The album was originally issued on Saga / Eros subsidiary in 1968, and the Wah Wah reissue respects the colourful sleeve and reprints the original insert, with sound remastered from the original tapes by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering. Offered in a limited 500 copies only edition! LP $22 SKU:11931

KING , REG - LOOKING FOR A DREAM w insert, Presented in a half-laminated flipback sleeve SAALE - Label:CIRCLE After re-releasing the official 'Reg King' album and 'Missing In Action' E.P., several years ago, Circle Records had every intention of releasing another complete album of the former ACTION-vocalist's original material soon afterwards. However, time passes and things often don't work out as planned. It wasn't before late 2010 that all official permissions were granted, and a further six months before restoration and editing was completed. Recorded between Reggie leaving The Action in 1968 and the end of 1969, these songs feature his former bandmates throughout (still trading as The Action without him). With just one exception, the tracks are full-band, not just acoustic sketches as many demo recordings are. Aside from three tracks rescued from unlikely tape sources and an acetate, the majority are in perfect finished master quality. For some reason, all of this material was left aside when the time came for Reggie's 1971 album. In comparison, they are brighter and more uplifting than that record, not hampered by a similar busy/heavy production. The music ranges from the soulful pop of his Action days, shows influences of jazz and just hints at the progressions yet to come. Nothing is overlong and all tracks show just what a tremendous songwriter the man was. This record bridges the gap between The Action's 'Rolled Gold' and Mr. King's official solo record perfectly. If it had been released as a last Action record, or as a first solo album, maybe Reggie's career and the appreciation for his work would have been even bigger. All 12 tracks are totally unreleased in any format. Presented in a half-laminated flipback sleeve with art that uses a treated, previously unpublished picture to striking effect (one of two in the package). Silver/blue labels inspired by the late '60s United Artists ones (done to pre-date his official album). The double-sided, semi-gloss, colour insert includes descriptive appraisal from renowned writer Kevin Pearce, along with the story of how the album came to be. LP $19 SKU:14804
KING STAR ECHO - Caro A Go Go (60s Hong Kong surf instrumental and garage rock masterpiece ) SALE -Label:SCHMANCY SOUNDS The elusive 'Caro A-Go-Go' LP, a classic Hong Kong surf instrumental and garage rock masterpiece, sees a long awaited reissue! King Star Echo was actually a Thai group. However, the band recorded and released this top-notch Thai-Beat gem in swinging Hong Kong in 1966. Infested with twangy, acid-drenched guitar and demented, garage-a-delic organ, this lost artifact from the Far East will have enthusiasts of mid-sixties beat music going ape. Demonstrating their ability to get primitive and deranged while still sounding like coherent musicians, for closers, the band treats us to some truly monstrous garage covers of the Kinks' 'You Really Got Me' and the Rolling Stones' 'Satisfaction'. This record will launch you into the crazed mid-sixties Asian A Go-Go world of which you never knew it existed. If you are into topshelf weirdo exotica with a hint of psychedelia and distorted guitars, much in the vein of the 'Simla Beat' records, 'Cambodian Rocks' and the 'Thai Beat A Go-Go' series, then this Bangcock rocker is for you! On Schmancy Sounds via GO APE! Records. Edition of 500. LP $22 SKU:16135
KISSING SPELL - Los Pajaros ( South American 70s psych )- Label:ACME Reissue of one of the best and most sought after South American psych albums (1970), remastered from the original stereo master tapes. So it's not the guitar rave-up record many expect from South American psych. Instead, it's West-coast styled introspection from Chile, more akin to We All Together (if you need another South American reference point) at times than anything else. Well-crafted songs with an attractive dreamy quality enhanced by spacey effects, occasional bursts of well-handled fuzz guitar, and strong harmonies; sticker text likens it to the Zombies “Odyssey & Oracle”… not sure I hear that, but it’s an excellent album to be sure. Includes Kissing Spell’s up-tempo track 'Yellow Moon', which was on Latin American "Love Peace and Poetry" compilation; most tracks in English, with a couple of exceptions. LP $29 SKU:16428
KORAY, ERKIN - Meçhul Singles & Rarities ltd ed gatefold - Label:Sublime Frequencies LP gatefold limited edition release. Erkin Koray and Sublime Frequencies are pleased to present this collection of rare tracks and lesser-heard singles. All tracks were recorded and released in Turkey between 1970-1977 and culled from Koray's personal vinyl collection. Includes exclusive photos and remastered audio. What more is there to say about Erkin Koray? An iconic guitar and songwriting genius. A voice of gold. Having founded the country's first-ever rock and roll group in 1957, he is regarded worldwide as the father of Turkish rock. Forging Western sounds with his own inimitable musical mastery, he self-produced singles and LPs throughout the 1960s and 1970s that shook and altered Turkish society. Erkin didn't stop at rock and roll. Over time, he began to find inspiration in folk sounds from Turkey's Anatolian interior, and radio broadcasts received from Egypt and Lebanon. He looked to the East from his West-leaning Istanbul perch, and began incorporating these sounds into his own work. This amalgamation was as unprecedented and unorthodox in Istanbul at the time as rock and roll itself had been in the 1950s. The resulting hybrid sound ignited what became known as the Arabesque music movement in Turkey -- which continues to this day. While Erkin has recorded and performed tirelessly throughout the years (both as a solo artist, and with the powerful groups he formed), his extensive back catalog only began to be explored by the international community in the 1990s. He is now recognized as one of the foremost global leaders of psychedelic, folk rock, pop and balladry. His music has stood the test of time more than many of his Western contemporaries and influences have managed to, and his prolific work ethic has not ceased. He continues to live and breathe music, performing epic concerts, and continuously plotting new recordings and strategies. His vision and integrity, coupled with his pronounced world views and inherent musical greatness, have made him the unique and magnificent living legend he is today. This collection features tracks not found on the many unauthorized Erkin compilations and LP reissues that have emerged in the West over the years. Ranging from the sublime to the surreal, these tracks offer an essential glimpse into the extensive repertoire of the great Erkin Koray. --Mark Gergis, July, 2011 LP $26 SKU:13268

The Band then moved in a more British invasion direction for their music and outfit and changed name to "The Olivers". The line-up at the time consisted of Jay Penndorf (guitar, vocals), Chuck Hamrick (drums), Carl Aldrich (keyboards, vocals) and Billy Franze (bass, vocals). The group's sole 7" release, 'I Saw What You Did' b/w 'Beeker Street' was recorded at Cap Studios in Portage, MI and was released with a Picture Sleeve later that year on the local Phalanx Label. TITAN - ITS ALL POP- VA DBL CD ( 70s Power Pop / Glam Pop ) SAALE -Label:NUMERO GROUP From 1978-1981 the Titan label issued only eight records, but over the years their tiny catalog has crawled to the top of power-pop want lists worldwide and appeared on scads of bootleg cassettes, building a legacy to rival L.A.’s Bomp or New York’s Ork. Located in fly-over country, Titan was forced to start their own scene, import their own skinny ties, and scour Missouri for their own talent. Their midwest AM bubblegum roots are apparent in the likes of Gary Charlson, the Secrets*, Arlis!, Gems, Millionaire At Midnight, the Boys, J.P. McClain & the Intruders, Bobby Sky, and Scott McCarl, but Titan was clearly influenced by the glam-punk spit being hocked from the 100 Club stage. 30 years since they meekly flopped out their first 7” single, Kansas City’s Titan Records finally returns to record bins everywhere in a deluxe two-disc retrospective with comprehensive 40-page booklet. ULTRA CHICKS - VOL 2 ( 60s French pop ) - Label:MATRIX
French-language, female-sung '60s pop and rock on this 24-track collection, subtitled "Lolita Ya-Ya!" Not a name here that'll be familiar to anyone except the French and hard-bitten collectors of the ye-ye style, although there's a novelty song by actress Anna Karina (Serge Gainsbourg's knowingly ludicrous "Roller Girl," which despite the title is in French). You might also recognize the name Gillian Hills, the British actress who starred in Beat Girl, and who offers one of the best songs, a pretty bluesy, menacing item called "Maintenant Il Telephone." Much of this sounds caught between lightweight early-'60s twist music, continental European pop, and mid-'60s mod rock (there's some pretty scorching guitar and organ), performed by one-named singers such as Dani, Ariane, Aline, Elsa, Clothilde, Cleo, Eileen, and Joanna.
