Recorded in Fort Wayne IN, and mixed in Detroit by Jim Diamond, “Rock Them Back To Hell!” sees the duo expanding their sonic palette by adding bass, harmonica, organ, and “trash percussion” (that would be a cardboard box, a paint tin, trash can and an electrified five-gallon bucket). They sound like a couple of unhinged punk hillbillies raised on the North Mississippi hill country blues of R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. YOUNG FLOWERS- Blomsterpistolen ( 60's Danish acid psych )SAALE -Label:SONET The influence of early but heavy psychedelic British rock is overwhelming on the debut album by this Danish trio, which owes specifically apparent debts to Jimi Hendrix and Cream. It has some of the surface trappings of late-'60s records featuring Hendrix and Clapton in the squealing distorted guitars, phasing, and overall transmutation of the blues to a hard rock format. The opening "Overture -- Take Warning" alone sounds like it's determined to stretch the white noise effects that Hendrix used to open songs with a flourish to full-track length. What the album's missing -- unlike most of the recordings by Hendrix and Cream -- is good songwriting, let alone the kind of classics churned out by those role models. They certainly don't lack ambition, as three of the songs use lyrics by Walt Whitman, and they try their hand at a nine-minute jam-type thing, "April '68," as well as a hard blues-rock interpretation of Bob Dylan's then-recent "Down the Cove." But it's the shortest song, "To You," that's the most focused and appealing, very much recalling the shortest and most focused songs of Cream. LP $22 SKU:14963

Originally released on the "United Artists" label in 1971 (although it's earlier recordings date from 1969), via production company "Sahara Records", the 'Reg King' album is a neglected 'lost classic'. Long sought-after by collectors, with original copies regularly achieving three-figure sums, this record features all original King/Dale material, with backing from the highly-respected musicians of "B.B. Blunder" (ex-Blossom Toes) and "Mighty Baby" (ex-The Action). Other 'stellar' names making their musical contributions to this album include Mick Taylor, Steve Winwood, Elton Dean and Brian Auger. In addition, a whole host of other musicians at the cutting edge of the British Jazz and Underground Rock scenes of the time assist in different places. And they play like a buncha yetis as well...sorta like the Cheater Slicks only much better because they don't sound like a mockery of the music they claim to love. n the late '60s, a bunch of mysterious psychedelic exploitation albums were released by America's budget Crown label. Issued under different band names (The Firebirds, Underground Electrics, 31 Flavors), these LP's were recorded by an anonymous group of studio musicians. 'Hair' by 31 Flavors is the counterpart to The Firebirds' LP 'Light My Fire'. Along with demented raw garage covers of 'Hair' and 'Aquarius', it contains some of the heaviest, fuzzed out exploitation sounds ever committed to vinyl. ZAKARY THAKS- Form the Habit 180 gram gatefold -Label:BEAT ROCKET Both sides of all six of Zakary Thaks' singles are on this last-word compilation, along with three instrumental versions of tracks from the 45s. All of this material has been reissued before on Eva's J-Beck Story 2, with the exception of instrumental versions of "Face to Face" and "Green Crystal Ties." Still, this marks the first time everything's been available in this fidelity in the U.S., bolstered by the inclusion of a lengthy interview with lead singer Chris Gerniottis in the liner notes. It takes its place as one of the very best single-artist '60s garage reissues, the songwriting and musicianship at a far higher level than most '60s garage bands could boast, with just as much insouciant youthful energy. From the punk of "Bad Girl" and the mind-blowing fuzz guitar of "Face to Face" to the Beatlesque pop of "Please," the folk-rock/pop of "Mirror of Yesterday," and the San Francisco-like psychedelia of their final releases (at times even sounding like early Moby Grape), it's all good-to-great stuff. Note, however, that different mixes are used than were heard on some of the original singles, which is particularly noticeable on "Mirror of Yesterday" (where the high mariachi horn parts in the break have been erased) and "Please" (which adds some poppy backup vocals to the bridge).
