NEW ARRIVALS

LOONS -In The Past (GARAGE PSYCH)Label:THERMIONIC One of two 7"s released by Mike Stax's long-running garage-psychedelic band in 1997, the second year of their existence and still a couple of years before a full-length. Features the original line-up with Eric Bacher (Tell Tale Hearts) and John Chilson (The Hoods). Side 1 pairs the classic US garage composition (made famous by We The People and The Chocolate Watchband) along with a band original. Side 2 is a brooding cover of The Humane Society's "Knock Knock" (a Pebbles and Nuggets fave). Sides play at 33.3 RPM 45 RPM $6 SKU:26418

STYRENES-Silver Daggers/'Heavy Streets-Label:THERMIONIC Paul Marotta from the Styrenes and Mike Hudson (RIP) from the Pagans grew up together in Cleveland, a friendship best described as "mercurial” — so much so, that their twin energies could only be contained simultaneously on rare occasions before sparks would fly again. For this 1997 seven-inch pairing two covers (electric eels and Phil Gammage, respectively) in an incredibly ugly sleeve, our duo are joined by Al Margolis (If, Bwana) on bass and drummer Paul Laurence (second-generation Styrene). 45 RPM $6 SKU:26417

BILLYLEE JANEY -Gimme Some Lightning (classic hard rock from ex Truth and Janey guitarist)Label:ROCKADROME If you dig the sounds of Hendrix and Trower, you’ll dig this! This time around, it’s a full throttle non-stop barrage of down and dirty smoldering heavy blues rock guitar licks that just keep coming at you from start to finish. It’s almost like one long heavy guitar jam session where Janey just cuts loose at will. Janey’s mean and nasty tone and signature axe-slingin style are totally electrifying here. And as with all of Janey’s solo albums, it’s not just the guitar playing that stands out but also the great catchy classic rock and blues songs as well. This could very well be his strongest solo album yet! CD $10 SKU:26406

BILLYLEE JANEY -No Saints Ringin’ The Bells (classic hard rock from ex Truth and Janey guitarist)-Label:ROCKADROME Legendary Iowa Rock Hall of Fame guitarist Billylee Janey has been bending strings since the late 60s, and released his first single in the early 70s with his hard rock band, Truth and Janey. Since, he’s released more than fifteen albums and had guest appearances on many more, been elected to the Iowa Rock Hall of Fame, received a Grammy entry mention, appeared on stage with Buddy Guy and Little Ed, was featured in Bo Diddley’s backing band, and played more than 600 major shows in the USA and Canada. His recordings with 70s rock band Truth and Janey have been featured in several books on 70s hard rock and have achieved cult status. Billylee continues to write and release new material in the blues and classic rock genres and gig almost non-stop. Up next for Billylee is his fourth release for the Rockadrome label, “No Saints Ringin’ the Bells”, which hit the streets in the Spring of 2011. CD $10 SKU:26407

BILLYLEE JANEY BAND -What's Your Trick (classic hard rock from ex Truth and Janey guitarist)Label:ROCKADROME Ex-Truth and Janey guitarist returns, hot on the heels of his superb "Soul Driver" album, with another classic hard rock and funky blues album filled with tough guitar licks, super powerhouse drumming and hook filled songs! The opening track is the heaviest thing heard from Janey since his “No Rest for the Wicked” days! Once again, Janey and his power trio with monster skinsman Skip Lowe and bassist Dan Johnson deliver the high quality goods. This is an enhanced CD that includes a bonus video as well. CD $10 SKU:26408

BLOWN FREE Maximum Rock and Roll -A holy grail for 1970’s and 1980’s Metal collectors! Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) A holy grail for 1970’s and 1980’s Metal collectors! If there ever was a band that could be classified as “obscure, underground rock” this is surely one. The only known release on this band is a sole 45 released on Excelsior (the label owned by the late Bill Holford, SR. of ACA Studios in Houston). Mr. Holford would sometimes take a band under his wing and help them, which is what he did with Blown Free. David Matthews (not that guy) started his career back in the late 1960’s, landing eventually on the Houston psychedelic scene. In 1978, he formed Blown Free, crashing together a fuzzy acid guitar sound with high-energy riffing, brilliantly shown on the band’s single, ’The Wizard.'After the dissolution of the band, and the break-up of Matthews’ marriage, David took off for greener pastures back in Wisconsin where he started his own label and put together another version of Blown Free, this time under the moniker of The Matthew Davis Project. Tracks 1-4 Recorded at ACA Studios in Houston, TX, 1982. Track 4 is an alternate mix of the version on the 7" single. Tracks 5-11 are taken from a rehearsal tape recorded sometime in 1978. Track 12 taken from the band’s only official release, the Excelsior Records 7" single, recorded at ACA Studios and engineered by Bill Holford, SR. File Under: 70's Hard Rock, Psychedelic Hard Rock. For fans of: Josefus, JPT Scare Band, First State Bank and Highway Robbery. Strictly limited to 300x copies. CD $12 SKU:26409

CONTINENTAL CRAWLER- The Anthology 1977-1979 featuring former members of punk band The Misfits-Label:NOT ALOUD . Continental Crawler was many things rolled into one; one part garage, one part power-pop, one part punk — but all featuring former members of punk band The Misfits. In the mid 70’s, The Misfits’ lead singer Glenn Danzig was a member of several groups, playing original material with drummer Jim Catania and guitarists Stevie Lin and Chaz Jones. In 1977, Catania and Lin joined up with bassist Mike Myers and became Continental Crawler; Chaz Jones then joined on keys and guitar. Lin and Jones were Danzig’s first writing partners, uniting his lyrics and original music from Lin and Jones and Catania eventually moved into drummer’s chair for The Misfits. Catania left the Misfits in 1978 to return to Continental Crawler, recording a 45 that now sells for $50+ on the collector’s market. This CD gathers the original six Continental Crawler studio tracks, along with rare live, demos, and basement tapes recorded between 1977 and 1979. CD $10 SKU:26410

HEARTBREAKER -St 1976 tracks for fans of classic British Rock-Label:Dyamond Roxx A collection of demos, including tracks recorded in 1976 with Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) and his keyboard player, Colin Towns; also has 1974 recordings featuring the original Heartbreaker line-up. Heartbreaker was formed in 1973. The band seemed to be on the right track when Johnny Glover (ex-Free/Spooky Tooth manager) and Richard Griffiths arranged a deal with EMI. After 1976, there were line up changes and Ian Gillan stepped in, recording several tracks in his studio with guest appearances by Colin Towns and Mr. Gillan himself. This partnership with Gillan marks the pinnacle of the band’s work, but a record deal didn't materialise — times were changing, UK major labels were after Punk bands, and the Heartbreaker vanished. Carefully remastered and presented with a 16-page booklet. File Under: Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Blues Rock. For fans of: Free, Bad Company, Back Street Crawler and early Whitesnake. A true gem for all fans of classic British Rock.

OZ KNOZZ -Ruff Mix+ bonus (PRIVATE PRESS 70S HARD ROCK )Label:PROGAOR 15 First legit reissue of one of the best US private press hard rock/progressive rock albums of the 1970s. Formed in 1969 in Houston, TX, Oz Knozz's original crew included multi-instrumentalists Jack Alford, Bill Massey and Duane Massey. Alford left the group in 1971 and was replaced by drummer Marty Naul, while the next year the trio was joined by guitarist Richard Heath. The band had also a three-man horn section, which was dropped quite fast, although horns remained a part of the band's sound, even on their rare and epochal 1975 private press debut ''Ruff Mix,” released on the band’s own Ozone label.“Ruff Mix” mainly grooves in Hard Rock territory—the second track 'Peanut Butter Yoni' sounds a bit like Judas Priest with a proto-Metal feeling; but the album also has elements of Progressive Rock, Horn Rock and Pomp Rock. Like most bands of the era, the idea was to throw out a few different styles to see if something would stick… the theory being that a major label would hear the private album by chance and sign said band so they could open for Led Zeppelin or Foghat's next US tour… or something like that. What separates Oz Knozz from others is a strong compositional component, the band have plenty of original ideas and muster superb instrumentation. The guitar work ranges from hard and powerful to melodic and bluesy and is supported by some great keyboard, including awe-inspiring organ and synth waves. The three-part 15-minute 'Doodley Squat’ suite features heavy dual keyboard parts, crunchy guitars and expressive vocals; the result is a terrific Hard Prog track with lot of energy. For many, the standout track is the groovy and infectious horn rocker, which sounds as dated as the movement itself and easily could have been from 1969. High energy and impressive songwriting CD $12 SKU:26416

SUN DIAL-Return Journey (psych classic)Label:GALLIUM ARSENIDE (USA) More recordings from the same time period as their stone cold psychedelic classic "Other Way Out” album, including some less-polished interpretations of early Sundial tracks, and an incredible cover version of Open Mind's 'Magic Potion’. Tripping the flashing trip fantastic, with characteristic great guitar from Ramon. Slightly revised artwork for this U.S. reissue of the out-of-print Acme LP/CD. CD $10 SKU:26404

CATCH PRICHARD -I Still Miss Theresa Benoit (darkly psychedelic country-folk )DINGED CORNER BARGAIN!Label:CATCH PRICHARD "The Oakland band’s darkly psychedelic country-folk suggests things on the verge of collapse… appealingly overwrought, its sweetness curdling into menace like Twin Peaks gone spaghetti western..." - PITCHFORK LP $15 SKU:26362

PLASTIC CRIMEWAVE SYNDICATE- Space Alley-Label:LION Plastic Crimewave Syndicate has finally returned with a wide-ranging/raging new album — recorded two years ago in an expansive, benevolent alleyway in the midst of a dark, diseased, claustrophobic time of global chaos. The new PCWS album, entitled "Space Alley," boldly travels into the relatively unexplored malevolent terrain of free doom, space/noise punk, and darkly dubbed-out library/soundtrack grooves (call it 70's crooked-cop show/freak-funk, if you must). This is all capped off with a sidelong, (beat of the) earth-harvesting modal exploration of synthed-out kraut-throb. With new bassist Rob Rodak (Dead Feathers) aboard, and guests like sax-skronk legend Taralie Peterson (Spires That in the Sunset Rise), flautist Sara Gossett (Spiral Galaxy), and synthlord Will MacLean (Protovulcan), new influences have seeped into PCWS's dystopian vision. The Syndicate have opened for revered deities like Nik Turner, Loop, Simply Saucer, Chrome, and Josefus; but now a more diverse and groovy array of past underground sounds like Skin Alley, Sound of Imker, Here and Now, Mann/Sharrock, Black Sun Ensemble, Parson Sound, and Schizo have influenced PCWS's journey. Recorded by Eric Block (Rhys Chatham, Sick Gazelle) of Rec Rooms studios, and mastered by Monster Magnet/Desert Sessions guitar god JP McBain, the mind-fry level is set to 11 on Space Alley! LP $24 SKU:26361

PUSSY--INVASION (70’s Hard Rock post-Jerusalem material from 1972/73)Label:ROCKADROME /LION •Includes insert with photos, lyrics and liner notes by Pussy/Jerusalem bassist and primary songwriter, Paul Dean Pussy, managed and produced by Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), was formed from the ashes of Jerusalem, well known among 70s hard rock enthusiasts thanks to their stone-cold classic 1972 Deram label debut album, and our recent vinyl reissues. This 1973 album, with Pau Dean and Ray Sparrow of Jerusalem along with Brian Goff on guitar, was long-rumored to be an unreleased second Jerusalem album. That it is not — this is a different crunchy guitar beast. Although Pussy kept the raw, no rules edge from Jerusalem which sets both bands apart from many others of the era, there seems to be a touch of Ziggy Stardust crunchy space glam in the mix. Ian Gillan was far more proactive this time around: he played piano and percussion, and was responsible for many backing vocals on the songs.

Pussy were a hard rocking band with no pretensions of being super musicians or technical geniuses. If it seemed like fun, it was worth a try, which explains a lot about their sound and direction. On stage anything could happen—no rules of course! They gigged all over the UK and Germany as a main and support act, very much in the same way as Jerusalem had done. Pussy recorded and released one single on Deram and then went on to record tracks between 1972 and 1973 with Brian Goff taking over for Bob Cooke on guitar, for their debut album — the recordings on this very album — which was not released at the time. •Limited second edition of only 500 copies

BLUE CHEER -7 (1979- Rare look at the world’s first Heavy Metal Blues band!) Label:SHROOMANGEL A new limited edition TEXAS ROCK DYAMONDS series of small press-run CD releases Raw, heavy, and straight to the point—a rare and wonderful glimpse of Dickie Petersons Blue Cheer. Produced by Eric Albronda and Jim Keylor. Recorded at Army Street Studios in 1979. "Blue Cheer 7 represents a rare look at the world's first true Heavy Metal Blues Band during a late 70s reincarnation which was closest to the sound of their original great success with "Vincebus Eruptum," their million selling debut. "In 1972, the late Dickie Peterson, walked out of the studio after announcing Blue Cheer was finished, after punching his drummer in the mouth for trying to make him drink carrot juice. Despite a glowing review of their sixth LP, "Oh! Pleasant Hope!" by Lester Bangs in Rolling Stone, the band's demise was swift, and about as loud as one hand clapping. Peterson, by his own admission, struggled for years with drug and alcohol abuse, but wasn’t ready to give up on his band. In 1974, an association with Kim Fowley could not get the revamped Blue Cheer lineup a recording contract, though the demos they made together were quite good. Five years later, Dickie had another go at it, briefly enlisting guitarist, singer and songwriter Tony Rainier (whose older brother had been a Cheer roadie before dying in Vietnam) and drummer Michael Fleck." Packaged in a luxurious 6 panel digipac includes expanded artwork and seven additional bonus tracks not on the LP version! CD $12 SKU:24719

BWANA- ST(1970 funk/psych rare-groove)Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM (Greece) YIKES! Cover way too controversial to show. Didnt know about it or i might not have ordered it. Google if you want.Reappearance on CD (with tasteless original cover art intact) of fantastic latin funk/psych rare-groove special from around 1970; as latin mavens Dusty Groove say, it’s “an insanely wonderful bit of Latin funk! The groove is super heavy, and falls somewhere in between NuYorican soul and Chicano Power rock—with a sound that's pretty close to Black Sugar, but a little bit more psychedelic, due to the heavy guitars and keyboards in the grooves. Hard congas take the lead on most of the tracks—especially the cut ‘Chapumbambe’, which starts with a nice breakbeat.” We say: astral-planar Latin jams, with blazing guitar and organ, laid down over hot funk/psych grooves; leads off with the eight-minute runaway train 'Tema de Bwana'; what's next, you wonder? why it's the intricate twin-guitar progressive call and response jam of 'La Patada'; the rest gets better from there, with songs that shift and flow until they hit an acid freakout point—check out the end of 'Chapumbambe', or the second half of the thirteen-plus minute soul/psych style rave up 'Lolita' that closes the album. CD $10 SKU:19051

DUG DUGS - ST ( 70s Mexica psych! ) mini-LP replica jacket - Label:LION DUG DUGS A heavy, explosive album, a record which captures the fever/dream humidity of flower children running amok on a July afternoon. Essential.! CD $10 SKU:12592

EDEN ROSE - On the Way to Eden (1970 PSYCH SPACE ROCK) Label:Llion It might be easy to think of Eden Rose as simply a first version of famed French progressive band Sandrose. Both bands had the same musicians; both existed at nearly the same moment in time (c. 1970). But Eden Rose is now seen, quite rightly, as something unique, a chimera from the misty past, a time during which the winds of change were blowing on the fixed universe of music. Rules were blown away, stagnant structures were swept aside, and musical conventions emancipated, this freshness and spontaneity the essence of a style that hadn’t yet been formalised.

And man, if my ears don’t deceive me, the main theme from ‘Walking In the Sea’ (before it spins off into Jimi Hendrix territory) sure sounds like a lovely jazzy riff on Serge Gainsbourg’s ‘Je t’aime… moi non plus,’ which had been released the year before this album hit the racks. Two bonus tracks are from the band’s only single that contained non-LP tracks. Booklet has the band’s story in English and French, and is printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy.
CD $10 SKU:19929

HAWK- AFrica She Too Can Cry (1974 African psych gem) - Label:FRESH South Africa’s Led Zeppelin! What do you get when you cross Cream with traditional African tribal vocals and the deep baritone of a master storyteller? Or, what would it sound like if Led Zeppelin swapped out tales of Gollum and the evil one in the depths of Mordor for yarns about brave hunters and village-attacking elephants? It would sound something like South Africa’s Hawk (also known as Jo’burg Hawk). In truth though, even trying to draw any such parallels falls flat for we have never before or since seen the like of Hawk. Their contemporaries were bands such as Freedom’s Children, The Otis Waygood Band and Abstract Truth, all legends in their own right, but no other band flew as close to the African sun and captured its glorious warmth as Hawk did. Arriving on the scene in the early 1970s, Hawk’s unique mixture of progressive, psychedelic rock was informed by a deep reverence for their African roots CD $14 SKU:20057

HILLARY BLAZE- Exposure (1977 metallic sci-fi hard rock private press )Label:ROCKADROME Official reissue of sought after 1977 metallic sci-fi hard rock private press record, featuring ex-members of the psychedelic 60s group Paper Garden. Available again for the first time in over 30 years! Recorded and mastered during the summer of '76, “Exposure” was originally released in 1977 on their own 30th Century Fox label. Music fans re-discovered this gem sometime in the 90s and the original pressing has since become a record collector prize. The spacey punk vibe, sizzling guitar and snotty vocals give the album a unique and ear-catching sound for its time. Re-mastered for compact disc from the original tapes, the resulting sound is nothing short of killer! Play this one loud! CD $15 SKU:20195

HOLY GHOST RECEPTION COMMITTEE #9- Collected Works ( 22 psych tunes sure to blow your mind! ) Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS Twenty-two cool, raw, psychedelic songs with a Christian twist that are sure to blow your mind. These boys were going to Catholic High in the late 60's, dropping acid, and listening to the Beatles and the Byrds. The Holy Ghost Reception Committee No.9 were a band of young kids bored with regular Catholic hymns. While secretly listening to The Beatles and The Byrds while their parents were asleep, they came up with the idea of singing religiously inspired music with a modern music rhythm. This idea took off right away amongst other young people in their area, and even was accepted by their pastor, who ended up getting them a deal to record their music. They released two albums, both great garage/psych albums. One of the best examples of what Christian psych can be. Both Holy Ghost Reception Committee LPs ("Songs For Liturgical Worship” and “The Torchbearers” — both released in 1969) — on one disc. CD $10 SKU:25248

ICECROSS - ST (73 ICELANDIC PROTO METAL!) SAALE! Label:ROCKADROME This 1973 Icelandic hard rock underground monster has been the target of collectors for at least two decades! Carefully remastered for pristine sound that lays waste to all the bootlegs that have come before. 12-page booklet with liner notes, clippings and photographs. Icecross possess a unique dark sound which reveals influences ranging from Sabbath to Crimson to Blue Oyster Cult and beyond all melded together in such a way to form their distinct Icecross style. Considered proto-metal by many, though they don’t achieve this with a typical smash your face approach. Instead, Icecross unleash some killer inventive guitar sounds by way of Leslie speakers combined with ominous effected bass lines and splendid use of bow to create a perfect dark heavy guitar album. One of the few, if not the only, Icelandic band inspired by Sabbath at that time. Press: "Their album has been legendary among collectors for years. All in all this is an album of overwhelming power with an underlying, uncomfortably penetrating coldness. Obviously one for guitar lovers or those willing to delve into the more obscure history of heavy metal" - Scented Gardens of the Mind CD $14 SKU:17329

INFINITY- Collected Works 1969-70 (UK psych legends) Label:ACME Legendary UK psych outfit Infinity formed in 1969 from the ashes of “Chocolate Soup” psych faves the Flies and Cymbaline. The mission: to develop a heavy psychedelic/pop sound, and express it through complex original songs. Thanks to some funky Hammond organ, punchy guitars, and the band’s unique harmonies, Infinity were no run of the mill outfit. Upon their return to mainland England from a residency in Jersey, they joined the high-profile NEMS agency, alongside heavy hitters like Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Soft Machine, and Pretty Things. In late 1969 and early 1970, following support slots with The Searchers and Marmalade, Infinity recorded original material for a proposed album, which was meant to explore “time, space, matter, energy and chicken phal, said in some circles to be so hot in a culinary sense that it's temperature approached infinity,” or so they have said, with tongue-in-cheek, we have to believe. Sadly, they broke up soon after the sessions. The good news is that the band left behind the recordings presented on this disc, which can now be enjoyed in the digital format after the passage of more than four decades! Comes with a 24-page booklet which includes band history, photos, and more, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:11333

JARDINE- Look in the Window( lost jewel of late-1960's UK psych)Label:LION Jardine’s album was recorded in three glorious weeks in June 1969, at Sounds Aquarian Studios, a stone’s throw from that justifiably famous fashion hub, Carnaby Street. The sessions were fun. Polydor was supposed to release the album. Musicians dropped in to say "hello" and ended up on the record (uncredited)—among them Peter Frampton, Andrew "Andy" Bown (Herd and Status Quo), and Brian Appleyard (drummer from East of Eden). Singer Mickey Cox had been in Robert Plant’s pre-Led Zeppelin group The Band of Joy—it was Cox, in fact, who became their singer when Plant left the band. But suddenly, thanks to band management problems, the LP was shelved. Keith Law, who had written all of the songs, joined Velvett Fogg for their only album, and Jardine was forgotten. Now, forty years later, you can be among the first to discover the brooding excellence of these tracks, music both strange and sinister, with moments of fragile beauty. There are some very pretty songs here (haunting melodies abound), but there is no escaping the dark side of life (‘Masochists of Strangulation,’ ‘Execution of the Child,’ and monumental dirge ‘Blackbirds of Jardine’, which tells of self-same birds, and the fact that they will “destroy you, and leave you pain, pain, pain”), songs perhaps more akin to the band Comus than to anything else we have encountered from the psychedelic era. There are also heavy guitar solos, churning organ, flute, and flowing sitar, for good measure. A 16-page booklet includes a band history lyrics, and comments on the songs by Keith Law. A lost jewel of late-1960's UK psychedelia, from a short-lived but charismatic band! CD $10 SKU:10134

JEM TARGAL-Luckey Guy (1978 SOLO SESSIONS)Label:OBSCURE OXIDE 1978 MEGA RARE PRIVATE PRESS PSYCH ORIG Jem Targal first made his mark as vocalist/bassist/main songwriter for Detroit power-trio legends Third Power (their lone Vanguard album from 1969 still rightfully well-regarded today). After the band split in 1972, a despondent Jem took up home recording, laying down hours of tape on a Teac 4-track machine. Jem selected the best cuts from these solo sessions in 1978 and released “Luckey Guy”—pasting the gatefold covers and handling all sales himself in true DIY fashion. The album never stays still with one style for too long, but rather drifts along with spaced-out guitar (‘Bumble Bee Drive’), tortured, dissonant piano (‘Ring Out The Bells’), culminating in a sparse, apocalyptic tale (‘The Bomb Tune’), with bits of childlike whimsy and Jem’s eerie harmonies woven throughout, not to mention a few musical touches that indicate its mid-1970's vintage. Were we to shamelessly namedrop, we might mention Syd Barrett, Skip Spence, Brian Wilson and Gary Wilson as starting points... But we're above that, for its the first ever appearance on compact disc of this odd and eclectic bit of loner folk/psych. The label tracked down the master-tapes, miraculously still in storage at the original pressing plant, and created a mini-LP sleeve replica of the original album jacket, that includes an insert booklet with liner notes and newly-transcribed lyrics handwritten by Jem himself. MANSET, GERARD -La Mort D’Orion (1970 French rebel)Label:WORLD It was the release of “La Mort D'orion” (1970), his third album, that made self proclaimed ‘lifelong rebel and eternal failure’ Gerard Manset famous in his native France. This ambitious concept album opens with dissonant strings in a classical mode that could easily be part of a Bartok quartet; the music then evolves (after a sitar interlude) into a multi-part, nearly 25-minute long song with an epic sweep that seems to encompass and distill all the finest that French modernism has to offer, channeling the spirit of its literary innovators (from Nerval, Rimbaud, Apollonaire, and Cendras to the likes of Camus, Sartre, and Robbe-Grillet), while also benefiting from the advancements in studio sound pioneered by the likes of Pierre Henry at Pierre Schaffer’s studio at RTF. As our friends at Other Music have said, “moments of seemingly normal French chanson give way to subtle and psychologically disorienting manipulations of orchestral trappings—the results are very dark, very beautiful, and quite unlike anything you'd expect from French popular music.” Creepy in some parts, at others "serious" psychedelic/avant garde progressive psychedelia, with abundant dark orchestrated atmospheres; for those who don’t object to this approach it is an album that can only be described as a masterpiece. In the end, "La Mort d’Orion" proved to be both a critical and commercial triumph; indeed, it went on to sell more than 20,000 copies—a remarkable feat for such a strange and innovative album—and French critics showered it with rave reviews. Amazing that this has scarcely been noticed outside of France. Hefty booklet (20 pages) contains biographical information, and lyrics. CD $10 SKU:20172

QUINTAL DE CLOROFILA- O Mistério Dos Quintais (1983 Argentine psych folk )Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA Only album by psychedelic folk duo formed by brothers Dimitri and Negendre Arbo, part of a set of folk groups from Brasil comprised of “gaúchos” (native country people); Quintal de Clorofila is one of the few bands of this sort who got to make a record, which was released by the independent label Bobby Som in 1983. For this LP, Quintal de Clorofila recorded their own compositions, with lyrics by their brother, the poet Antônio Carlos Arbo. According to Dimitri Arbo, the band mixed rock, medieval music, Afro, oriental and Latin rhythms... a blend of music they dubbed "Viking Rock" (not sure why). It’s a complex sound to be sure, with tremendous depth and abundant inspiration evident throughout all of the album’s atmospheric songs. An album much beloved by Hans Pokora—and now by us. Two alternate versions of songs from the album are included as bonus tracks CD $10 SKU:20151

REICHEL, ACHIM- AR5 Autovision (70s Legendary underground freak -Label:GERMANOFON: Legendary underground freak from the '70s German head scene.” (Freak Emporium) the label says: "From 1974. Achim Reichel’s fifth excursion with echo-guitar, a collection of group and solo recordings, would be his last studio album in the mind-blowing style. Available again with improved packaging." and a little bio for good measure: German singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Achim Reichel enjoyed a long and varied career that began during the beat boom of the ’60s, when he founded the Rattles, and carried on well into the next millennium, by which time he was still recording albums and performing large-scale rock concerts. Born on January 28, 1944, in Wentorf bei Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Reichel began his music career in 1960, when he, as a singer/guitarist, formed the Rattles with bassist Herbert Hildebrandt in Hamburg. The band, along with the Lords, proved one of Germany’s leading beat bands of the day, for instance touring England with the Rolling Stones in 1963 and touring Germany with the Beatles in 1966. Reichel left the band in 1966 after several albums, including Twist im Star-Club Hamburg (1964), Liverpool Beat (1965), and Hurra! Die Rattles Kommen (1966), and subsequently entered the Bundeswehr (i.e., the German armed forces). Upon Reichel’s departure from the military, he formed another band, Wonderland, whose debut single, “Mocow” (1968), was a Top 15 hit. Next he formed the experimental solo project A.R. & Machines, which debuted with Die Grüne Reise (1971) and followed with a succession of Krautrock-fashioned albums: Echo (1972), 3 (1972), 4 (1973), and Autovision (1974). SHOTGUN -Dallasian Rock( Led Zep style 70s hard rock )Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) A blend of hard hitting riff rock á la early Led Zeppelin and James Gang, with a guitar attack reminiscent of bands like Leafhound or Edgar Broughton Band. Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage and soaring, soulful vocals, punchy bass and solid drumming make for a memorable set of songs that you won't soon forget. Shotgun had a successful career in and around Dallas, TX between 1974 and 1977, playing the club circuit and recording at the cities best studios. Sadly, nothing ever came of the recording sessions and Shotgun eventually morphed into VIZION, which released an album in 1980 that featured the vocals of Jan Houston. Finally after more than 38 years, Shotgun's long lost studio sessions are presented for the first time ever on LP as they were meant to be heard. The CD versions includes eleven additional bonus tracks. The most amazing thing about these tracks is how they remained on the shelf all these years! •Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage. •Previously unreleased vintage studio tracks from the 1970's CD $10 SKU:19956

TIDAL WAVE-Spider Spider-Best Of The Tidal Wave (S African psych pop 1969) Label:FRESH The Tidal Wave were one of South Africa's foremost exponents of psych influenced pop music in the late 60's and early 70's with hits like ‘Spider Spider’ (1969) and ‘Mango Mango’ (1970) and ‘With Tears in My Eyes.’ Although they existed for a relatively short time, the band is regarded by many as the bridge between pop and the then developing 'underground' South African rock scene. This compilation gathers together for the first time all the hit singles, B-sides and rarities. Yes, they did play pop and had a few hits, which were featured on the top radio stations at the time, Springbok Radio and LM Radio. However Tidal Wave also played very interesting psychedelic pop rock enhanced by the fuzz guitar sounds of Mike Pilot. There is a wide variety of music styles covered on this Tidal Wave retrospective. Lovers of end-of-the-sixties psychedelic pop and rock will discover many hidden gems, including the progressive rock sounds of ‘Get It Out Of Your System’ which would not have been out of place on an Abstract Truth album. This disc also includes the funky soul sounds of ‘Town Girl’, featuring Peter Vee’s lead vocal, which was previously unreleased. Tidal Wave is fondly remembered by many and now all their music—the hits, misses and rarities can be found in one place. CD $14 SKU:20408

TRUTH AND JANEY-Topeka Jam ( 70s midwest power trio Psych ) -Label:ROCKADROME RECORDS (USA) Excavated from the archives of a long-time roadie and brought back from the brink of disintegration comes this collection of live recordings made over several nights in Topeka, Kansas circa 1974. The celebrated Iowa hard rock trio is captured here in raw form doing what they did best, stretching out into extended jam sessions featuring heavy guitar action from Billylee Janey, booming fuzz bass from Steve Bock, and Denis Bunce locked in the zone behind his drum kit. "Midnight Horsemen," originally released as a 3-minute single in 1972, is featured here as a 22-minute jam and is a prime example of vintage Truth and Janey. Also included are several previously unreleased songs which have not been heard in over 40 years, as well as early versions of "Down the Road" and "My Mind," from their 1976 underground hard rock classic debut album, "No Rest for the Wicked." UNRELATED SEGMENTS-Where You Gonna Go (66-75 Michigan proto hard rock)Label:CICADELIC RECORDS Sixties punk, garage, moody sounds and proto-hard-rock of the highest order! Complete recordings (1966-1975) of this legendary band from Michigan, including their three killer 45s plus unreleased recordings and alternate takes. Master tape sound, insert with photos and liner notes. The Unrelated Segments created some of the most celebrated garage-punk anthems of all time. Tracks like “Cry, Cry, Cry” with its teenage-angst vocals and out of control fuzztone guitar break, “The Story Of My Life” with that bizarre and ultra-punk bass line or the moody-punker “It’s gonna rain” have been included on countless garage comps (Back From The Grave, Acid Dreams, Nuggets, etc) and have been covered by numerous bands who worship them as 60s punk Gods. Sadly, the band never got the chance to record a full album. After three outstanding 45s, they recorded a projected fourth single that never saw the light of day, just when the band had changed its name to U.S and had started playing in a heavier vein, similar to early MC5. Soon after, the band split up and some of their members formed psych-rock band Lost Nation. On this collection, along with their official 45s and alternate takes / rehearsals, you’ll find the unreleased 45 from 1969 plus some demos recorded by an unnamed post-Unrelated Segments / Lost Nation band in 1972. An amazing find which shows the band playing pure Detroit high-energy hard rock! “The Unrelated Segments emerged from the same downriver suburbs that had produced the MC5, and their suburban mutation was almost as unique. Singer Ron Stults had an unforgettable style somewhere between punk snarl and Brit erudition and the songs he wrote with lead guitarist Rory Mack were catchy and substantial” – Ben Edmonds (Creeem, Rolling Stone, Mojo CD $10 SKU:22973

VON, RONNIE -A Máquina Voadora (70s psych)-Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA “The last and probably best album from Vons incredible psychedelic trilogy from the years 1969-1970. We said some time ago that of the three key albums from this long-time Brazilian pop-star, that the first was the best, but hearing this again suggests that its time to revise that opinion. It1s true that all three albums make it clear that the psychedelic effects of Tropicalia were not confined to Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Gal Costa. Yes, Von often takes a poppier angle in getting to a similar fuzz-guitar driven musical landscape, but not only does he get there all the same, on this album the pop is minimal, and the fuzz supreme. Its difficult to describe how balanced this album is, as it features truly one-of-a-kind songs, which include any number of effects and treatments of Ronnie1s enchanting voice, all of which matches perfectly with the mysterious and melancholic songs on the album. Listen to it and let yourself fly into the far reaches of Ronnie Vons dreamy, twisted mind. Comes with a fulsome 20-page booklet that includes a history of Vons career (sort of), as well as lyrics” CD $10 SKU:26088

GAIETY RECORDS STORY- VOL.2 (Rare 60s garage, punk & psych singles) SALE! Label:PACEMAKER At last, a second collection of rare singles from the label that produced the cream of the mid-sixties crop of Canadian garage, punk, and psychedelic music! The Gaiety roster was rich in talent (the 49th Parallel, Jarvis Street Review, and Souls of Inspyration, not to mention the Checkerlads, White Knights, Dewline, Tomorrow's Keepsake, NRG, Merriday Park, and Portland Street South)—but it was not rich in resources, which is why these singles are so incredibly rare. This second Gaiety Records volume has twenty-four tracks in all, ranging from the ferocious punk psych of Solid Reputation’s ‘Lies’ to the wonderfully druggy (and truly demented) ‘Ode to a Cucumber, A Berry, and A Flower", a song that deserves to be in the pantheon of weird psychedelia right alongside the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band’s ‘Help, I’m a Rock’. NRG’s UK psych-inspired ‘Magic Man,’ much in demand in collector’s circles, is here in all its glory—along with six other tracks by this underrated band, including the psychedelic groover ‘Withcraft’.Other highlights are four more terrific beat/pop songs from the Plague and Lexington Avenue (bands who would become better known later as Jarvis Street Review). Tracks by the Checkerlads, Tomorrow's Keepsake, Flying Colours, Portland Street South, round out the disc, and (we hope) bring pleasure to everyone. COMP CD $10 SKU:16069

REVOLUTION -Teen Time In Corpus Christi (1966 Texas garage) -Label:CICADELIC In 1966, famed lead guitarist Rod Prince (later of Bubble Puppy) re-wrote the 13th Floor Elevators' song 'Tried To Hide' as 'All Night Long' and released it with the Bad Seeds as their third single. They were the number one band at the time in Corpus Christi. Although 'All Night Long' would beat the Elevators' 'Tried To Hide' (on International Artists) to the market, the Bad Seeds disbanded in the summer of 1966 and other renowned Corpus bands would follow in their footsteps, most scoring top ten hits on the way: Four more with the ultra-rare single 'Problem Child' b/w 'Don't Give Up Hope'. The Zakary Thaks with 'Bad Girl' and 'Face To Face'. The Liberty Bell with 'The Nazz Are Blue' and 'For What You Lack'. The Buckle with 'Baroque Rock' on 'I've Got Something On My Mind'. Folk-rock singer Michael backed by The Zakary Thaks on all three of his singles, sounding more like a 1966 era Bob Lind than Bob Lind. And Kubla Khan singing about changin' times in 'Revolution' and pondering whether 'the brown grass will be legalized'. Memorabilia such as top 30 radio surveys, rare photos, news articles from the era, interviews with band members, sixteen page booklet, and twenty-eight tracks (including previously unreleased recordings) combine to make this a trip back to the '60s, when a revolution in sound was happening in Corpus Christi, Texas." FOLKLORDS -Release the Sunshine -return of a revered Canadian psychedelic rarity in a hand-numbered limited edition LP on sun yellow vinyl!Label:LION A new edition of this Canadian folk/psych classic — perfect dreamy, sunshine-infused-yet-with-clouds-passing-by pop psychedelia with a folk bent, originally released by independent Canadian label Allied Records in 1968. When we first issued this terrific album many many years ago, our booklet featured the few scraps of information on the band we could find. We challenged “anyone out there” to find some information on this elusive and intriguing band. Well, we’re pleased that someone took us up on that offer, and that the specific someone was band leader Tom Waschkowski (credited on the album as Tom Martin). He graciously offered us a band history, lyrics, and some terrific photos. This allows us to offer up as perfect a reissue of this album as humanly possible. LP $32 SKU:26335
