GERMS- Germicide -Live at the Whiskey 77 -ONE ONLY! Label:BOMP Records We are seldom lucky enough to hear one of our favorite bands at the earliest state of development. In the case of the Germs, LA's most radical punk band, someone was fortunately on hand with a remote 8-track studio to record their very first gig. Part of Kim Fowley's 1977 "Punk Rock Weekend" at the Whiskey a Go Go, it's a rough, honest, eye-opening set, showing the Germs as they really were. Originally released in a limited vinyl edition in 1980, Germicide quickly went out of print, then was issued cassette-only by ROIR. With new liner notes by Kim Fowley and former drummer Don Bolles. Unlike the various European releases, this album features never-released shows and drastically improved sound quality. We used the most advanced new computer techniques to bring out the sound and elminate noise. Cd has two sets of liner notes, one with fabulous anecdotes of Iggy's Hollywood days, and a plethora of previously unpublished photos from the actual shows. IGGY POP & the STOOGES - Wild Love- ONE ONLY~! Rare material from the vaults! Label:BOMP Records This album explores the creative process that gave birth to nearly all the Stooges albums. Starting with a jam session, an oldie or two, or maybe a blues riff, the songs gradually took shape and were refined from there. Here we find the Stooges in rehearsal, messing around with songs by Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, Cream, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. We hear the beginnings of songs that never went any further, like "Old King Live Forever","I Come From Nowhere" or "Wild Love", which had as much potential as any of their best material. And we have some very impromptu jams such as "Move Ass Baby" and a fascinating James Williamson solo performance. Much of this material has never been heard before, in any form, as it's been buried in unmarked tapes in the Bomp vaults. WEIRDOS - Destroy All Music (1977 Los Angeles punk legends) w booklet- Label:BOMP 30th Anniversary Edition - The Weirdos were in many ways the greatest of L.A.'s punk bands. In early 1977 their mighty sound and singular style were the big-bang igniting the L.A. punk rock scene, as they proclaimed "we're not punks, we're weirdos from Hollyweird!". This wasn't just goofy sloganeering, this was a stance intended to distinguish them from the burgeoning punk rock scenes in New York and London. The Weirdos were not only bringing a new sound and writing teen punks anthems, they were also responsible for their graphics (posters, covers, flyers) and designed their own clothes! Their 1977 Bomp single "Destroy All Music" was a nihilistic anthem, and is now regarded as a classic, and by the time they made their mini-LP two years later they had turned into a powerful, polished band, without losing any of their outrageous attitude. "Destroy All Music - 30th Anniversary Edition " compiles the now classic 1977 EP Bomp and the 1979 "Who, What, When, Where, Why?" mini-LP in its entirety and includes previously unreleased early demos. WILDFLOWER-40 YEARS IN A BLINK OF AN EYE (psych/flower/pop/folk) Label:WILDFLOWERMUSIC A 2007 collection of tracks by the re-united Wildflower, featuring songs the band played in the '60s, but never recorded during that time. Still has the psych/flower/pop/folk feel from that era. The CD comes with 8 page booklet with all lyrics and nice pictures. In 1965, "The Wildflower" began at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland with Stephen Ehret on rhythm guitar, Tom Ellis on drums, John Jennings on bass, Teddy Schneider played percussion, Michael Brown played lead guitar, and the whole band sang. Stephen wrote the songs for the band and also collaborated with poets, Michael McClure and Michael McCausland. The band was soon playing venues all around the Bay Area and was one of the original psychedelic 60s groups developing the San Francisco Sound that reached maturity during the Summer of Love. They played both the Fillmore and Avalon Ballrooms and toured extensively. Tom left to finish his education and Larry Duncan took over drums until his return. Teddy left the band before a tour back East. Following that, "The Wildflower" toured Canada with "The Youngbloods" and recorded with producer Jerry Corbitt. Just when it seemed their commercial success was secure, they disbanded. Featured in movies and documentaries about the S.F. rock scene and immortalized in psychedelic poster art, the Wildflower remains a part of the colorful tapestry that was the magic of the sixties CD $12 SKU:21107

WITCHES- A Haunted Person's Guide To ( psych - Label:ALIVE "The best band that you never heard" of is a term that is commonly thrown around with much ado but in the case of The Witches it may well be true. Born in Detroit in 1996 from the mind of bass player Troy Gregory (Dirtbombs, Killing Joke) and with the help of fellow Michigan natives John Nash (Electric Six, LCD Soundsystem) on guitar, and producer Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Von Bondies) on electric twelve-string, The Witches went on to record five amazing albums between 1996 and 2006, with the help of a revolving line-up of Michigan musicians, before vanishing into thin air. OUR BRILLIANT CAREERS -Cherry Red Rarities 1981-83-Label:CHERRY RED Cherry Red carved out an odd niche for itself apart from the general post-punk flow, thanks largely to eccentric A&R man Mike Always, whose tastes leaned towards melody, Englishness, and the 1960’s. Cherry red became a home for the dashing, debonair whimsy of he Monochrome Set, the mopy bedsit introspection of Eyeless in Gaza, jazzy-folky singer-songwriters Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt (separately and together as Everything But the Girl), and the Television/Velvets descended, plangent splendor of Felt. Although “Pillows and Prayers” is the best-known sampler of the label, its precursor “Perspectives and Distortions” (1981) includes many non-Cherry Red artists, which makes it very interesting; and “Our Brilliant Careers” (2003) scoops up archival arcane. It includes rare tracks by successful Cherry Red artists like Everything But The Girl (plus solo material from both Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt), The Nightingales and The Monochrome Set, plus many more. Most people probably know Five Or Six from their off-key but charming opener 'Portrait' from “Pillows and Prayers”; here we have six like low-key and absorbing tracks from them, most of which have never been on CD: 'Think' and 'Theme' are instrumentals that will surprise a few. VENTURES -Beach Party (COLLECTION)-Label:ACME Founded in Tacoma, Washington in 1958, the Ventures made a significant contribution to the surf music scene which unfolded between 1961-63. They were a revelation then, their style and humour continues to speak to us today. Although the band name itself may not ring any bells for too many people (they never released any records during the band’s lifetime, from 1964-1967), it was a pillar of the legendary Canterbury scene of the mid-to-late sixties. The Wilde Flowers have assumed an almost mythical status simply because of the musicians that passed through them. Band members included, at various times, Hugh Hopper (bass), Robert Wyatt (drums, vocals), Kevin Ayers (vocals) (all soon to form the Soft Machine), as well as the basis of influential Canterbury band, Caravan: Richard Sinclair (rhythm guitar, vocals), Pye Hastings (guitar, vocals), David Sinclair (keyboards), Richard Coughlan (drums) and Brian Hopper (lead guitar, alto saxophone, vocals). This CD is the very first commercially available record of the Wilde Flowers sessions. A number of tracks on this disc were recorded at a session at Regent Sound Studios on the 6 August 1969, though by this time, the careers of Soft Machine and Caravan were already underway; these tracks are of interest as they feature tracks recorded by Wyatt, Hugh Hopper and Pye Hastings: ‘Impotence’ (Hopper/Wyatt), ‘She Loves To Hurt ‘(Hopper), and ‘Memories’ (Hopper). A fourth track, ‘The Big Show’ (Brian Hopper), also sees Brian Hopper joining in. Thus one of progressive rock's most important bands came to an end with the formation of the Canterbury scene's most popular groups, Soft Machine and Caravan. Not all the members that passed through the ranks of The Wilde Flowers ended up in these two bands. CIRCUS - ST 180 gram ( 60s dutch CREAM STYLE ) Label:PSEUDONYM Circus had everything to become the first Dutch super band, along the lines of a.o. Cream and Blind Faith. In January 1968 guitarist and composer Frank Nuyens and drummer/lyricist Jay Baar rose from the ashes of Q65. Herman Brood (Cuby + B) would play piano and Henk Smitskamp (Motions) was approached as bassist/singer. Smitskamp however, chose for After Tea and Brood just did not show up. Mark Klein (James Mean) joined as keyboardist, Frank Verhoef became the bassist/singer. With them, Nuyens and Baar made the first recordings. Later they went into the studio with producer Hans van Hemert, for the complex basis of Mother Motha's Sundance. Although the focus was on instrumental pieces, Circus planned to use a different singer for each song. Hans van Hemert did the "guide-vocal" of Voluntary Peacemaker and Wim Bieler put his teeth in Fairy Tales Of Truth, a long drawn out song full of psychedelia. Circus' groundbreaking sound attracted serious interest from Apple Records, the label of The Beatles. But their recording career never went beyond a test pressing of the single Medusa - recently found in the archives of Hitweek. Since Q65 had split up, but was contractually obliged to deliver one more album, a number of Circus songs landed on the last Q65 LP, 'Revival'. Four decades later Circus presents the original rough working versions, different and sometimes longer than what appeared on 'Revival'. Eckart Rahn, a young record producer at that time, recognized Deuter's talents, and in 1971 released his first recording, “D,” on the then fledgling Kuckuck label (not, we hasten to mention, in any way a “new age” album). Deuter began to go into the mountains to record birds, water and wind to accompany his music; he also began spending much of his time at an ashram in Poona, India. Deuter was also one of the first artists to blend that Eastern influence into his music. Yet he did that blending in such a gentle fashion that it never jarred Western ears, unaccustomed to Eastern rhythms and tonalities. The terrific “D” album is an all solo affair recorded via multi-tracked guitars, electronics, percussion, flutes, and so on, in what looks to be Deuter’s bed-room; very psychedelic processing, at times an almost ADII-like heaviness mixing with more Popol Vuh-ish mystical spaciousness. Perfectly crafted headspace and always a pleasure to absorb, this is one of the finest and most unheralded albums of the early 1970s German scene. DEVIL’S KITCHEN- ST (SF 60s heavy guitar psych ) SAALE!Label:LYSERGIC SOUND First ever release by DEVIL’S KITCHEN, perhaps the best of the greatly talented but “forgotten” bands from the legendary San Francisco psychedelic scene of the late 1960’s. This heavy guitar-powered psychedelic four piece band moved from their original Southern Illinois base to the Bay Area during The Summer Of Love. The band came to the attention of Bill Graham and Chet Helms in 1968 and was soon playing on a regular basis at The Fillmore West. A short time later Devil’s Kitchen became the house band at Helms’ Family Dog Ball-room on The Great Highway in San Francisco and remained there in that capacity from the spring of 1968 until the summer of 1970. Devil’s Kitchen played all the major venues in The Bay Area and Los Angeles during this time period, opening for and playing frequently with many very well-known bands, including The Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Allman Brothers, Big Brother And The Holding Company with Janis, The Charlatans and many, many others. The band spurned a recording contract offer from Mercury Records in 1968, displeased with the lack of creative control offered them by the label. Consequently, they never released any recordings. There are eight original unreleased tracks on this album and all were taken from the original master tapes that were recorded in 1969 at The Family Dog Ballroom On The Great Highway in San Francisco and the Sierra Sound Recording Studio in Berkeley. The music has a great and unmistakable late 60’s acid-drenched West Coast guitar-driven blues-psych sound with snakey electric slide and roaring fuzz guitar throughout, provided by the talented Robbie Stokes who later went on to play with Quicksilver Messenger Service and appeared on Mickey Hart’s 1972 “Rolling Thunder” LP, just to mention two of his many musical credits. The discovery of these master tapes and this subsequent release of Devil’s Kitchen’s first full length album, more than forty years after the recordings were made, is an exciting find for the collectors of obscure 60’s psychedelia.
