ROLLING STONES- Charlie is My Darling - Ireland 1965 BLue Ray Label:ABKCO Charlie Is My Darling, directed by Peter Whitehead and produced by the Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham, was the first documentary film about the Rolling Stones. It was intended as a screen test for the band, to see how their musical charisma would translate into film. LIGHT-Turn on the (1967 psych) Label:UGLY THINGS The LIGHT was a dynamic, multi-talented supergroup from California's Inland Empire. Formed early 1967, the group united the brightest talents from two of the area's most popular garage bands, the Bush and the Northside Moss. Everything from garage, delta blues, folk and space-rock can be heard in their music. Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd, Arthur Lee's Love and Captain Beefheart can be easily picked as some of their influences but at the same time the band takes a step forward into making their sound modern and updated with the present times. The Sounds Can Be So Cruel is an album presenting nine ingeniously composed songs with elements of, aside from the obvious ones, theremin, strings, slide and flute for instance. DEBRIS - STATIC DISPOSAL (70s acid punk ) -Label:ANOPHELES The band were said to be high on acid when they recorded this in Oklahoma in 1975; not surprising then that the result is demented avant-garde proto-punk psychedelia, with modulators and synthesizers, a vibraharp (and more) utilised to good effect; the album is now considered a pivotal mid-70s effort from the American private press underworld, and as such has been hailed in Ugly Things, The Acid Archives, and MOJO (a Jon Savage favorite). And why not? It’s a record which has inspire bands from the Screamers to Nurse With Wound. Debris’ are now seen as one of the most important proto-punk bands of the era, too often snubbed by punk historians who don't want to rewrite their historical templates. This updated second printing features the original album tracks, carefully transferred from the master tapes, plus 40 minutes of unreleased basement recordings from the band's own Subterraneous Static Disposal office in Chickasha, OK in 1975-6. Detailed 28-page booklet has also been updated, and includes extensive notes which detail the band's own first hand experiences. Several CDs, vinyl LPs and singles, as well as multiple compilation appearances are out there if you can find them. They appeared in virtually every punk fanzine of the day and opened for everyone from Nashville Pussy to the Casualties to the Groovie Ghoulies. CD $5 SKU:18808

DIMI DERO INC -Sisyphus...Window Cleaning FRENCH R&R STOOGES DOLLS STYLE-Label:OFF THE HIP Dero grew up listening to David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Idol before a friend of his sister gave him mix-tapes featuring punk bands from France and all over the world. “I soon got addicted to The Stooges, New York Dolls, Heartbreakers, then a French label called Closer started to release Australian bands: New Christs, Died Pretty, The Fun Things, etc”, Dero recalls.Inspired by the “energy ... the smell of freedom” in The Stooges’ first album, Dero started playing drums in a band by the name of Moby Dick in 1989. “We were mainly playing covers of the bands listed above. I started to play guitar and sing a few years later covering some Johnny Thunders songs then started to write my own stuff,” says Dero. CD $5 SKU:19216

DINO & MONTEVIDEO BLUES - ST (70s Uruguay 32-page booklet is packed with photos, detailed band history, and lyrics) Label:LION The one and only album by Dino & Montevideo Blues (Macondo GAM 551, 1972) deserves to be a serious contender as one of the most important, and as it happens, most grooving, records ever released in Uruguay. But there is another reason that the album has attained exalted status: the incisive power of the lyrics, which are all the more impressive considering the national turmoil out of which they were created. Montevideo Blues was founded by Uruguayan song-writing legend Gastn "Dino" Ciarlo as a way to fuse the rawness of rock music with obscure native Uruguayan rhythms like malambo, milonga and chamarrita-a logical direction to pursue after Dino had attempted pop/candombe fusions in his solo recordings. "At the time, we were revolutionary and looking for change," said Dino. Montevideo Blues demonstrated an unyielding and combative attitude. During live shows in 1971, Dino often criticized the government-a level of political commitment reflected in the lyrics of the songs, some of the most radical ever set to music. Eduardo Mateo, the sacred monster of modern Uruguayan music, was succinct: "You have decided to prune the tree," he said to Dino. The album opens with one of Dinos most famous songs Milonga de Pelo Largo (Milonga of the Long Hair), a sinuous song transformed by the arrival of the dictatorship into a hymn of Uruguayan popular resistance. The rest of the album tracks have an edgy, atonal quality, with terrific unconventional angular guitar and a kind of ragged glory, all driven along by insistent grooving rhythms, whether from native drums or the clicking of drumsticks. Bonus tracks include beat-rockers Sendero de Rosas and Rubio es el color, from the rare "La Juventud" compilation album, as well as both sides of Dinos two early singles for RCA Vik. R&B SPOTLIGHT #60-R&B and/or pop hits of 1959- DOUBLE CD Label:Fantastic Voyage 60 tracks by various artists selected from the US charts of 1959. All of the songs were R&B and/or pop hits and many have become classics of the genre. The artists include such legends as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Fats Domino, the Coasters, Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker, Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughan. The collection, including full details of the original label issues, is the second of an ongoing year-by-year series representing the Rhythm & Blues charts. The informative booklet notes are authored by respected Echoes/Record Collector journalist Mike Atherton. This 1959 installment in the year-by-year R&B Spotlight series sees the increasing popularity of Rhythm & Blues, with many of the entries also crossing over to the pop charts. The R&B chart mixed successes from both one-hit wonders and fifties stars. R&B with the Rock and Roll beat was represented by Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Lloyd Price and Little Willie John. Harmony vocal group sounds abounded with notable sides from the Flamingos, the Skyliners, the Crests, the Five Satins and Richard Barrett with the Chantels. Uptempo group items, often with a comedy slant, were very popular and the Coasters, the Clovers, the Cadillacs, the Accents and the Genies are amongst the excellent selections here. The whole Twist craze had it s beginnings in this year with the release of the original version written and recorded by Hank Ballard & The Midnighters. Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker and Clyde McPhatter pointed the way for the future direction of R&B with their polished, New York-produced recordings. Bluesier items still appeared in the charts with winners from Jimmy Reed, Little Walter and Lightnin Slim. Instrumental charters included catchy items from Dave Baby Cortez, the Spacemen and Paul Gayten. Tremendous tracks including classic songs like ‘Kansas City,’ ‘Sea Cruise,’ ‘Charlie Brown,’ ‘The Twist,’ ‘Since I Don’t Have You’ and ‘Love Potion No. 9’, all included here.
