Recorded live in 1973, Rock N Roll Animal is Reed's glam-rock sneer back at his Velvet Underground legacy. Four tracks are VU classics (two about the redemptive power of rock, two about the transformative power of dope) dressed up into slick, flashy twin-guitar noodle-fests, with big riffs and showboating solos and Reed practically phoning in his vocals. It was something of a hit at the time, and it's easy to hear how the simple forcefulness of these songs sounded good on early-1970s radio. But Reed doesn't bother to conceal his contempt for the commercial trappings he's put on his songs--"Heroin," in particular, turns from savage ambivalence into an easy cartoon--and the album's hard to like now. NOAH - BRAIN SUCK (US HARD PSYCH 1972) DBL Label:GUERSSEN superb, though at the time unissued, US hard psychedelic album from 1972 is now available on vinyl. Dominated by killer Hammond organ, hard guitar and powerful vocals, Noah's music is dark and heavy and recommended to fans of a.o. Fraction, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly and Blue Cheer. This edition is expanded to the DOUBLE-LP format with rare, stunning demo recordings from the years '67-'71 plus some garage-psych 7-inch sides from pre-Noah outfit The Sound Barrier. MORMOS -The Great Wall of China plus 7” (1972 acid folk) - Label:WAH WAH Recorded in 1971 and originally only issued in France by CBS, the first LP by post-SPOILS OF WAR band Mormos is a masterpiece of fabulous experimental psychedelic acid folk sounds and bizarre melodies. Influences from contemporaries such as The Incredible String Band are present, as are some resemblances to the music of f.i. Comus or Dr. Strangely Strange. Mormos nevertheless created unique athmospheres which were (and are) unheard in other music of the era. Jim Cuomo formed Mormos after the demise of his Spoils Of War project. The new group moved from the USA to France, where they recorded two albums. The first was 'Great Wall Of China', which now gets reissued in cooperation with Cuomo himself. Nervebreakers quickly rose to the top of the pack in Dallas releasing three singles which are now hard to find. This album was recorded in 1980 and was to have been their debut LP. The band members seem to feed off of each other, which depending on moods, chemicals or mental stability can be incredibly mesmerizing or cryptically haunting. The Priests tend to break it down to the simplest level and build from there. RAINY DAY SAINTS-Saturday’s Haze-Cleveland psych, garage punk, pure pop ,prog)Label:GET HIP You don’t have to listen to the Rainy Day Saints for long to surmise that their heady amalgam of psychedelia, garage punk, pure pop and prog-rock is the product of astute music fandom.Rainy Day Saints were born out of frustration, heartache, love and power chords. Setting controls for the heart of the sun is multi instrumentalist Dave Swanson. He and his cohorts parade along the rock and roll route oblivious to the fact that the scenery along the way has most definitely changed. In other words, they do what they want, when they want and for no one else but themselves. Why else would they reference Hawkwind, Roxy Music, Crazy Elephant and Johnny Thunders in one fell swoop! Selfish? Perhaps, but that is not their concern. It’s all about the melodies, the harmonies, the loud guitars, the driving bass, the bashing drums and the snarling saxophone. Things like : “pristine electrified paisley underground jangle”,“a nastier version of The Move and the harder side of the Dream Syndicate”, “an elegant almost British classicism of hazy, psychedelicate pop-rock swirls”, “ Cheap Trick meets The Nazz meets early Flaming Lips”, “reminds me of the Monkees”, and our favorite, “ Mr. Swanson is one talented motherfucker” are just a few of things that have been said about Rainy Day Saints. RESONARS NONETHELESS BLUE (for fans of the Byrds, Love, the Easybeats, Moby Grape and the Hollies) Label:GET HIP On Nonetheless Blue, Arizona’s The Resonars continue to mine the field of top-shelf psychedelic pop. This, their fourth album, is probably their strongest, as the lead vocals of Matt Rendon are more self-assured than ever.

The songs are eminently catchy, and many of them could have been found on a series like Highs In the Mid ’60s without anybody finding out that they didn’t belong. Songs like “Nonetheless Blue” and “Sinking Is Slow” would have made perfect ’60s garage records, the kind that hit No. 1 in the band’s small-town charts but never got beyond that (a sad story of lots of classic records of that day).

Fans of The Grip Weeds will especially love “Your Concern,” “No Problem At All,” and “As a Matter of Fact,” as they feature that band’s signature thick harmonies and West Coast psychedelic vibe. In a likeminded but lighter vein is “If Darkness Comes Too Fast,” with an easy vibe not unlike that of the iconic pop/psych band, The Millennium CD $10 SKU:24736

NERVES One Way Ticket - RED VINYL (70S POWERPOP LEGENDS!) Label:ALIVE Formed in 1975 by guitarist JACK LEE, bassist PETER CASE, and drummer PAUL COLLINS, the Nerves are one of the most influential garage/punk pop outfits to come out of the mid-70's LA scene, and certainly one of the least documented... until now. Mostly remembered for their classic "Hanging On The Telephone," a Jack Lee composition which has been covered over the years by a myriad of artists from BLONDIE to L7 to CAT POWER, the Nerves were above all a high energy rock'n'roll band with all three members composing and singing. Playing fast, ear-catching garage pop songs, sometimes wearing matching suits, the trio had more than a bit of the stripped down street energy of the Los Angeles's early punk movement. They shared the stage with the Ramones and Mink Deville during their infamous US "Magical Blistering Tour," played the Punk Palace and the legendary Masque in Hollywood, and headlined shows with the Avengers, the Zeros, The Dils, The Screamers and Shock, to name just a few. After the band's break-up in 1978, Peter Case and Paul Collins formed The BREAKAWAYS, and later went on to front the legendary PLIMSOULS and The BEAT, respectively. Following the success of "Hanging On the Telephone," JACK LEE has mostly focused on his songwriting career, releasing an album in 1981. Both Peter and Paul are still recording and touring. PETER CASE's latest album "Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John" (Yeproc 2007) was nominated for a Grammy. RATIONALS--10” Temptation Bout to get Me (Detroit 60s MC5 STOOGES style ) Label:TOTAL ENERGY LAST COPIES When serious collectors compose lists of the top shoulda-been-bigger bands of the '60s, the Rationals are often among them. Coming out of the same Ann Arbor, MI scene that gave birth to the MC5 and the Stooges, the group's forte was a sort of garageish take on blue-eyed soul, built around the fine RB-hued vocals of frontman Scott Morgan. Their mid-'60s singles, however, didn't break in many areas outside of Michigan (where they had some big local hits), and by the time they got to record an album, they had long passed their peak.the Rationals actually predated the MC5/Stooges by quite some time, both chronologically and stylistically. When they began recording for the local A2 label in 1965, they were, like many garage bands, heavily influenced by the British Invasion, although they gave their material a more soulful flavor than most similar units. "Gave My Love" was a chart-topper in Ann Arbor (and a hit in Detroit), as was a follow-up single of "Respect" (which predated Aretha Franklin's version).
