FRIENDS- Fragile SAALE (60s soft Psych/Folk ) - Label:LION The rarest, and I would dare to say best, folk/psych album from Peter Howell and John Ferdinando, musical brainchildren behind Ithaca, Agincourt, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Tomorrow Come Someday. This fifth Howell/Ferdinando album had just been completed in or around 1974 when the partnership came to an end. Howell had been working at the BBC as a studio manager since 1970 (he'd provided a stiff upper lip voiceover for John Peels Top Gear shows), but he was now offered a position with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, which he accepted, and still holds. An album so incredibly rare (only a single acetate exists), that many have doubted the album’s existence… until now! “Friends” still has the recognizable Ithaca and/or Agincourt sound, with lead vocals mainly by Peter Howell mostly, but with all the same elements and participants, and four tracks featuring the lovely vocals of Ruth Cubbin. A pastoral psychedelic folk stroll in the sunshine, with a few tracks reminiscent of 60's soft psych. Very good!!” CD $10 SKU:21914

FROZEN PLANET1969-THE HEAVY MEDICINAL GRAND EXPO (Aussie psych-/jam-rockers) Label:PEPPER SHAKER The sixth album by Frozen Planet....1969 is another improvised heavy-psyched-out instrumental adventure. This time however, the music invokes the spirit of the old travelling medicine shows. This is a return to the "concept album" by the band (their first three albums were also concept albums). The tracklisting is quite simple, but the concept and layout is much more complex. Two tracks; the title-track as track one, lasting an entertaining thirty-nine and a half minutes, followed by a neat little "encore" of about six minutes. Track one is of course spread over two sides for the vinyl edition due to playing-time restrictions. However, the fade-out at the end of side one could be viewed as a lead into an intermission! The parts of the title-track serve as the acts of the show. The band takes twists and turns to help guide you through the story, while Doctor Berner is on a quest to sell bottles of his glowing green elixir with the help of some colourful characters CD $10 SKU:20575

ASTRAL DAZE- PSYCHEDELIC SOUTH AFRICAN ROCK 1968-1972-Label: TAKE IT ACID IS '1968-1972' - This collection brings together rarities from well-known artists like Abstract Truth, Suck, Otis Waygood, Freedom's Children, John & Philipa Cooper, McCully Workshop and Hawk, as well as lesser known acts like Buzzard, The Fireflies, The Idiots, Tidal Wave, and The Invaders. Although the South African rock movement of the late sixties and early seventies was not a major commercial success, its participants heralded an exciting new age in South African rock and started a movement aimed at changing the musical tastes of fans in a spectacular way. Stadium concerts became the vehicle for feeding the youth with heavier rock sounds, and behind studio glass were producers like Clive Calder, Billy Forrest, Graham Beggs and Selwyn Miller who acted as change agents to transform conventional pop into heavier 4 to 5 minute songs. The movement's struggle for recognition through airplay remained unanswered and only the true fans of rock knew about their existence. You already know about their 1979 debut album and you know it's a masterpiece, but did you know about their second album recorded in 1984? Surely not, especially because it was a cassette-only release with a very short print-run. The sound quality on this reissue is splendid, and the music itself is equally as good, if not better than, their self-titled debut and is a real must for any folk and psych-folk lover. Acoustic guitars, subtle percussion, pastoral flute work and some warm vocals make The Tree People's music absolutely ahead of its time. A real beauty! FLAVIOLA AND THE FLOCK OF THE SUN - ST (1974 Brazilian psych)Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA Another great example of Brasilian “psicodelia” from the collective of underground musicians in Recife, featuring Flávio Lira in the lead role, along with Lula Côrtes, Pablo Raphael, Robertinho of Recife, and Zé of the Flute. Of the crazy albums from this period, the Flaviola record FLAVIOLA E O BANDO DO SOL (Flaviola and the Flock of the Sun) is one of the rarest jewels. Although it was recorded the same year (1974) as Lula Côrtes and Zé Ramalho’s “Paêbiru” album, and with most of the same musicians, this is mainly an acoustic album, rife with poetic language and regional instruments, but also demonstrating the abundant energy of people involved in making something fresh and new. The cauldron of influence in Recife resulted in some very intriguing music, and the Flaviola album is no exception—it’s more intimate a trip than “Paêbirú”, and more accessible an experience than “Satwa”; this is a brilliant album, full of strange moments (cellophane crinkled into the microphone as percussion), some deft acoustic guitar, and some of the prettiest songs this side of Vashti Bunyan. FLIPPERS- PRONTO VIVEREMOS UN MUNDO MUCHO.(Columbian 60s/70s Psych)-Label:GUERSSEN One of Colombia's better known 60s & 70s groups is Los Flippers. But few people outside Colombia knows about this wonderful 1973 album they did. Its probably because it was self-released by their leader Arturo Astudillos own label rather than the bigger labels they used before, hence low sales. But in any case, its no doubt a great album that must be heard. The music on this album is quite special, as it blends psychedelia with progressive sound and soul as well. With a very good production, here we find Los Flippers at their peak of inspiration and being now a bunch of very experimented musicians. The result is much more mature than any of their previous works of course, and they really achieved a sound that ranges with any supergroup. With all original compositions except a Buddy Miles cover, they used a good dose of psychedelic effects and some tasty horns as well. As an addition, this first ever reissue comes with a killer bonus track from an earlier 45, with a killer sound reminiscent of Iron Butterfly. We thought this one was out of print, but found a few jackets at the pressing plant Excellent acid-punk sampler put together by New England collector Erik L. Issued fairly late in the game but recycling lots of weird psych numbers for the first time. A few tracks fall into the pointless-noise/novelty category but overall this was one of the best comps of the early 90s. All of the pieces are unbridled master strokes of the proto-punk D.I.Y. mentality married to the equally inspired garage rock psych of the mid- to late '60s. In a significant nod to collectors, none of these sides can be found on run-of-the-mill "best-of" anthologies, and there are only a mere handful that are available in any other incarnation. The material ranges from highly infectious pop melodies such as Duffy's spry rocker "Come Back Come Back" or the speed-fueled madness of the Waterproof Tinkertoy's trippy "Continuation." There are also a fair amount of indescribably acidic and downright far-out cuts, including the repetitive "Suzie's Gone" by the Afterglow and the rambling of Ceylib People's "Changes." In addition to the plethora of unearthed gems, Beyond the Calico Wall features a few familiar titles -- such as the faithfully extended 11-plus minute reworking of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" from 6 Feet Under as well as Rasputin & the Mad Monks' jet-propelled rendering of "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)." Bhagavad Gita includes a mid-tempo distortion-driven electric guitar wailer titled "Long Hair Soulful," which was co-written by Chuck Mangione -- who included his version on his Eyes of the Veiled Temptress (1988). Dunwich Records was an independent American record label started by Bill Traut, Eddie Higgins and George Badonsky in Chicago in 1965. Dunwich was also a production company which licensed recordings to other labels, including Atlantic, Atco, Columbia, Mercury and SGC. The label was primarily known for the release of singles from the emerging Chicago rock scene in the 1960s. Only two artists, the Shadows of Knight and Amanda Ambrose,actually released LPs on the label. They were later absorbed by ATCO Records but, for one brief shining moment...they ruled the airwaves!

( Icelandic garage legends! 65-67) Label:GARDEN OF DELIGHTS Danish band’s Metronome album (1971), the one and only record by one of those groups that promised much, but never went further than an eponymous debut; their music was close to Burnin' Red Ivanhoe, Blast Furnace and the jazzy style of bands like Traffic, with long tracks with killer wah-wah guitars, swirling organs, wild vocals and twisted psychedelic sax-breaks; ‘Mexico’ is perhaps the most effective track on the album (paraphrasing the well-known sax riff from Traffic's "Freedom Rider"), although the whole record is strong. Their one and only LP holds the sad record of being the most bootlegged LP in Denmark. This first legal LP reissue is accompanied by a 4-page insert in LP format, containing a detailed band history in German, English and Danish language, a comprehensive discography including side and solo projects, cover and label reproductions, and band photographs. TRIP - Live ‘72 SALE! (1970 Italian prog)-Label:BLACK WIDOW One of many English bands coming to Italy in search of success during the beat-era, The Trip, included a young Ritchie Blackmore in its first line-up, along with founder members Arvid "Wegg" Andersen, Billy Gray and drummer Ian Broad. 'Live '72' captures the January 1972 performance at the Piper in Rome, the last concert with the historical line-up. This unpublished document is evidence of the energy and power of one of the best bands in Italy's '70s prog scene. An interview with Joe Vescovi by Athos Enrile is included.
