An in-depth booklet with a cache of photos, radio surveys, and posters, traces the genesis of an instrumental group called The Impax in 1963 to The Morning Dew in 1966. By 1968, The Morning Dew forged a complex psychedelic sound the culminated with their famed Fairyland summer '68 sessions. This release is the first of two covering the history of the band. The Mothers Anger is a two-piece band from Israel that sounds like a five piece band from Detroit. Could this be because the debut full length by Drummer/Vocalist Jimi and Guitarist/Vocalist Stitch was produced by bassist Michael Davis of legendary Detroit rockers The MC5? You read that right, a two piece band in which the guitarist tunes a few strings to play the bass and guitar parts simultaneously, enters the studio with a producer who happens to be a famous bass player (and also plays on a track!). The band’s new, more eclectic sound does little to diminish their garage attack, as their fierce cover of the Count Five’s “Peace of Mind” will attest. MOUNTAIN -Canadian Festival Express 1970 LAST COPIES!-Label:VOICEPRINT Scorching live recording by Leslie West's legendary band of rockers, recorded at the Canadian Festival Express in 1970. The tenth volume in the Mountain Bootleg Series was recorded on their Canadian Festival Express tour in 1971. As with all the other volumes in the series, all of the recordings come from Leslie West and Corky Laing's personal archives. Some of the performances are not sonically perfect, but the quality of the performances are never in question. When 1970 began, New York hard rockers Mountain were one of the most promising new bands. Their 1969 debut (while the album was titled “Mountain,” it was credited solely to Leslie West) had led to a highly coveted spot in the original Woodstock festival, thrusting the band was into the spotlight. MOUNTAIN -Crossroader: An Anthology 1970-1974 - DBL CDLabel:ESOTERIC Formed in 1969 by guitarist Leslie West and bass player and Cream producer Felix Pappalardi, Mountain also initially comprised a line-up that featured Steve Knight (Keyboards) and N.D. Smart (Drums). Prior to securing a recording contract, the band made an impressive impact at the Woodstock Festival in August of that year. Soon after this appearance N.D. Smart was replaced on drums by Corky Laing and Mountain began their recording career with their debut album CLIMBIN , issued in March 1970. Featuring such classic tracks as 'Mississippi Queen,' 'For Yasgur’s Farm' and a cover of Jack Bruce’s 'Theme from an 'Imaginary Western,’ Mountain established their hallmark sound of powerful rock combined with a more subtle side. MUSTANGS - And That’s for Sure- Riverside 60s garage legends Label:UGLY THINGS Full-color 16-page booklet packed with rare photos of the band, plus full liner notes by Mike Stax ) Two minutes and five seconds of tough fuzz, stomp and bad attitude, the Mustangs' 1965 single "That's For Sure" is considered one of the Holy Grails of '60s garage rock. That one, hopelessly rare 45 would be their only release. However, in January 1966 the Mustangs went into Locy Sound in Riverside, California, where they recorded 14 more songs, demonstrating not only their dynamism and versatility as a live cover band, but also their remarkable talent for original material, from wailing rockers to haunting Beatlesque ballads. SUMMER TURNS TO AUTUMN - Ember Rock, Vol. 2 (RARE 60S PSYCH& PROG)-Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE British indie label Ember released a number of rock albums and singles between 1969 and 1972, which today are much sought after by collectors of psychedelic, progressive and folk rock sounds. Many of the best tracks from these are gathered on “Summer Turns To Autumn”. Foremost among the artists compiled here is progressive rock band Blonde On Blonde, represented by tracks from both of their Ember albums. Fantastic Voyage has salvaged two tracks from Blue Beard s album. An early songwriting/production project for Bob Welch, who next surfaced in Fleetwood Mac, the album was only released in Italy, but the single ‘Sly Willy’ was more widely available and is highly prized by collectors of funky rock. Tyrannosaurus Rex-style acoustic hippy duo Knocker Jungle and progressive folk group 9.30 Fly each managed one now highly collectable long player for the label. METABOLISME -Tempus Fugit ( 1977 French prog )SAALE!-Label:REPLICA (France): First inspired by hard-rock as played by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, the band then discovered the works of Uriah Heep. With the help of keyboards player Thierry Scaduto, a symphonic touch added a nice aspect to the music. Under the influence of Genesis, Yes and Premiata Forneria Marconi, Metabolisme changed its musical style to play Progressive rock. Signed to RCA's Crypto sub-label, Metabolisme were great at dark atmospheres, processed fuzzy guitars and lost vocals. When they burst out of a slow number and rip into a tight ensemble piece you might hear touches of Arachnoid. The spacey Pink Floyd atmosphere recalls Pulsar, especially at the time of "Pollen" . The album opens with the longest track, nearly 16 minutes of pure delight, featuring two lush keybords passages and great guitar chops. One instrumental track, 'Tempus,' shows that they were capable to creat great prog rock, with captivating guitar keyboard parts. Released as late as 1977, the album didn't stand a chance of making it to a larger audience in a time in which punk rock started its devastating heyday. The music offered on the album was far to fine- drawn for the period in which it was released. Still, Metabolisme's "Tempus Fugit," their one and only album, is a treasure for those who love lush organs in the style of Yes, sophisticated guitars Uriah Heep and French vocals a la Mona Lisa. Mostly remembered for their classic "Hanging On The Telephone," a Jack Lee composition which has been covered over the years by a myriad of artists from BLONDIE to L7 to CAT POWER, the Nerves were above all a high energy rock'n'roll band with all three members composing and singing. Playing fast, ear-catching garage pop songs, sometimes wearing matching suits, the trio had more than a bit of the stripped down street energy of the Los Angeles's early punk movement. They shared the stage with the Ramones and Mink Deville during their infamous US "Magical Blistering Tour," played the Punk Palace and the legendary Masque in Hollywood, and headlined shows with the Avengers, the Zeros, The Dils, The Screamers and Shock, to name just a few. After the band's break-up in 1978, Peter Case and Paul Collins formed The BREAKAWAYS, and later went on to front the legendary PLIMSOULS and The BEAT, respectively. Following the success of "Hanging On the Telephone," JACK LEE has mostly focused on his songwriting career, releasing an album in 1981. Both Peter and Paul are still recording and touring.
