Nice review of HANDSOME JACKfrom The Daily Express UK, comparing them to Creedence, Buffalo Springfield and The Black Crowes.
Paul Collinskills it again with a rave from GOLDMINE: A few of the tracks—“Go,” “Kind of Girl,” and “Just Too Bad You’re Leaving”—wouldn’t have sounded out of place on the first Beat album, which is to say they’re pretty damned fab.— John Borack

It's really fun stuff, much of it probably made in the wake of the "Monster Mash" craze, and likely played by stellar session musicians under pseudonyms – but whatever the origin, it's bizarro and wildly fun stuff like they just don't make in today's music rackets! Includes "The Cave" by Gary Spider Webb, "The Mechanical Man" by Bent Bolt And The Nuts, "Summertime" by The Thunderbirds, "Werewolf" by Carl Bonafede, "The Monster" by Bobby Please And The Pleasers, "Vampire's Ball" by Mann Drake, "The Thing (Part 1)" by Curtis And The Creepers and more COMP CD $14 SKU:16768

CROOKS - ST BLUE MARBLE- (2009 psych Prod by Mathew Smith Label:DETROIT COSMIC SOUNDS UNSEALED BUT MINT Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP The Crooks is a trippy, psychedelic band who some might choose to enjoy while dosed up on hallucinogens. Fortunately, you don't necessarily have to be tripping your tits off to enjoy the band, you just need to be open to very long songs, unorthodox arrangements, and King Crimson covers. LP $10 SKU:20522
GIZMOS- Never Mind The 1978-81 RED Label:VULCHER The Gizmos were a legendary Indiana band of the late 1970s that put out three EPs at the beginning of the punk-rock/new wave age. Formed by singers and rock critics Ken Highland and Eddie Flowers in 1976, they released the EP The Gizmos (Gulcher, 1976), one of the earlies documents of the era. While naif to the bone, the four songs are quintessential: the surf guitar progressions of Muff Divin', the catchy Them-style anthem Mean Screen, and their little masterpiece, That's Cool, that weds the raw, menacing boogie of the Velvet Underground with the Rolling Stones' thorny rhythm and blues riffs. ROCH, ERNAN- La Onda Pesada (70s west coast style psych)-Label:MARIPOSA (Argentina) Reissues of rare underground albums from Mexico: con las Voces Frescas "La Onda Pesada": first time reissue on CD of this extremely rare Rex label psychedelic classic (1971) from Mexico; West Coast style psych—a little bit folksy, a little bit psychedelic from this a Mexican singer known only for this rare album. Roch sings in English throughout, often in a mode that mixes bluesy phrasings with a raspier folk style, a package made all the more excellent thanks to the mix of acoustic and fuzzed-out electric guitars; these are heavy on dark-edged phrasings, and they really give the record a spooky feel, one that some people have likened to being almost folk/funk at times! Production is simple, but somehow heavenly, floating with a brilliance crafted from a very few simple elements; one of those rare perfect moments of studio magic CD $8 SKU:5964
RON & SPLINTERS- Go Ron Go (60s style garage pop) -Label:Inbetweens his collaboration between Dutch veteran Ron Splinter (lead guitarist of the seminal the Outsiders) and '80s Neiderbeat/garage revivalists Michel Tertsegen and Marcel Kruup (the Otherside), the Kiek and current instro act the Treble Spankers is so much more endearing for the fact that is a labor of love. And that's no bad thing. Four thirty-something beat fans talking one of their heroes into forming a band with them and it coming off is nearly miraculous. Splinter was such a unique guitarist with the Outsiders and it's so nice to see that he's still got it. Many musicians who "made it" in the '60s for some reason late opted for resorting to heavy metal riffs and a complete loss of what made them special. Thankfully it hasn't happened to "unsung legend of rock & roll" Splinter. This certainly won't sell a million, or make the band rich, but that's what makes it even better -- it's from the heart! As a homage to the jangly guitar sound of the '60s that Splinter perfected, here, obviously inspired by his younger buddies, the band ploughs through carefully selected covers of '60s garage/folk-rock tracks: Lowell George's early garage/folk-rock outfit the Factory's "Lost"; Buffalo Springfield's "Burned"; an out-of-character folky Townsend song not released until 1983 on Scoop, "Things Have Changed"; the Texas garage pop gem "Rejected" originally recorded by Sterling Damon in 1966 for International Artists; The Trashmen's venture into folk-rock "Hanging on Me"; and the Kinks' "Don't Ever Let Me Go." Along with these spirited takes, that are only slightly marred by Tertsegen's vocals, are a working of the unfinished Outsiders' cut "Space Demo," which was probably intended for CQ, and a new Kinks type Diddley instro-shuffle called "I." This set isn't mind-blowing by any reach, but to hear the Outsiders' guitarist perform some '60s obscurities will certainly please many. CD $6 SKU:18754
RUNAWAYS -WAITIN' FOR THE NIGHT (1977) -Label:CHERRY RED Re-issue Originally not released in the UK or US and only available on import, 'Live In Japan' was recorded in 1977 during the girls sold out arena tour! By this time The Runaways had become genuine superstars in Japan and this album, which boasted superior sound quality (by '70s standards) and explosive, uninhibited versions of You Drive Me Wild, Cherry Bomb, California Paradise and other hard rock pearls only proves to serve their worth. With the line-up still the same, just before Jackie and then Cherie were to leave the band the girls were on top form, making this one of the best live rock albums of the 1970s! CD $15 SKU:

SALEM’S POT- LURAR UT DIG (STONER PSYCH)Label:RIDING EASY Mired in drug-derived riffing and classic horror/exploitation ambience, Swedish four-piece Salem’s Pot have plenty of scummer groove in common with Electric Wizard on their debut, …Lurar ut dig på prärien, but if worshiping at the altar of Sabbath and drawn-out fuzz was a crime, we’d all have been put to death years ago. Their reverential depravity comes through in the three extended tracks, “Creep Purple” (14:28), “Dr. Death” (9:52) and “Nothing Hill” (9:12), and the album unfolds in a haze of degenerate psychedelia. CD $14 SKU:18827
SONICS- Boom (60’s garage) GATEFOLD - Label:NORTON The Sonics' second album is every bit as explosive and influential as their debut outing, loaded with gritty Northwest rock & roll. Sandwiched in between the abrasive classics of "Cinderella" and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" (with the Wailers on backing vocals), the funk sass of "The Hustler" and "Shot Down," the demonic "He's Waitin'," and the sledgehammer, inside-out version of "Louie, Louie" (only three chords to play and they don't even play 'em) are the band's straight-ahead takes on old R&B chestnuts like "Skinny Minnie," "Let the Good Times Roll," "Don't You Just Know It," "Since I Fell for You," "Hitch Hike," and a nice barn-burning version of "Jenny Jenny." Where the Wailers cut down the trees and paved the highway, the Sonics were the first group from their neck of the woods to take that music somewhere wilder than their original inspirations. The second chapter of Northwest rock & roll after you absorb the Wailers' Golden Crest sides. -allmusic.com LP $17 SKU:18365

IGRA STAKLENIH PERLIST (stunning Yugoslavian 70s psych)-Label:ATLANTIDE Reissue of impossible to find psychedelic masterpiece. Made in the mid 70's in old Yugoslavia. This is one of the best Pink Floyd-esque psychedelic albums. Stunning guitars and killer keyboards. Anyone into heavy psychedelia needs this one!” First album from the ultimate ex-Yugoslavian space/psychedelic rock band, formed in 1976 in Belgrade, Serbia, having been named after the famous novel by Hermann Hesse, "Das Glasperlenspiel" (The Glass Beads Game). The original line-up consisted of: Zoran Lakic (keyboards), Vojkan Rakic (guitar), Predrag Vukovic (percussions) and Drasko Nikodijevic (bass & vocals). In late 1977 Dragan Soc joined the band as drummer while they played live concerts at Belgrade clubs, preparing to start recording their first album, which they did in mid 1978. Upon its release the next year, the band gained reputation for elaborated visual stage effects and light show directed by their friend Goran Cvetic. IGRA STAKLENIH PERLI labeled their music style as "stream of consciousness music". Both studio albums, the eponymous "Igra Staklenih Perli" from 1979 and "Vrt Svetlosti" from 1980, are pretty similar in sound and resemble the style from early Pink Floyd and Hawkwind psychedelia, to German kraut-rock (notably Can and Tangerine Dream) CD $16 SKU:20305

LEE JANG HEE -- Meet Me In a Room (S KOREAN trippy psych folk) Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA This terrific album from 1972, by one of Korea’s most famous folk-singers of the early 1970’s (first issued by Sung Eum), features (according to World Psychedelia) "best production and trip vocal,” which we take to mean “trippy” vocals; echo-reverb is omni-present, giving a dark vibe to the grooving music—don’t know who’s playing guitar, but they serve up plenty of tasty licks in a Cliff Gallup vein (he of gene Vincent & Blue Caps fame); some of the ballads have a decidedly “Twin Peaks” sound—retro early 1960’s with a heavy dose of weird—with the fourth track being as great a psych dirge as you can find, down to the fuzzed out ending; no idea what the songs are about, but Lee Jang Hee is one tortured guy; track nine is a spiritual cousin to Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’ from “Transformer”—melancholic verses leading to a great sweeping melody of joy in the choruses; from the liner notes, “While Japanese and American-style pop dominated the music scene after the Korean War, some young musicians playing acoustic guitars, started singing songs about love, nature and freedom. Then two singers, Song Chang-shik and Yoon Hyong-joo, released a historic duet album featuring acoustic guitars, for the first time in Korea. And a hippie named Han Dae-soo, Korea's first singer/songwriter, returned from the United States and held a concert singing a new type of song in 1969. Folk music in Korea was born in that year. The music touched the hearts of young fans and swept the university campuses and concert halls. Along with draft beer and blue jeans, the acoustic guitar became an obsession for youngsters. In the dark age of military rule, students sang folk songs yearning for freedom and democracy.” Lee Jang Hee also appeared on a couple of soundtrack albums “Home of Stars” (1974) and “March of Fools” (1975), which apparently are famous albums in Korea. LOST SOULS-mid 60s unknown U.S. Brit Invasion/ psych)Label:LION The Lost Souls never released any records, yet the meager recorded evidence that survives indicates that they were one of the finest unknown American groups of the mid-'60s, able to write both catchy British Invasion-type rockers and, in their latter days, experimental psychedelic pieces with unusual tempo changes and song structures. The band were also unusual in their occasional embellishment of the typical period guitar-bass-drums lineup with flute, sax, and mandolin. Although popular in their Cleveland hometown, they broke up in 1968 to attend college. Rhythm guitarist Denny Carleton, who wrote and sang some of their best material, went on to briefly join The Choir, their chief (and more successful) rivals." —Richie Unterberger The music scene in Cleveland in the mid to late 1960’s was ripe with talent: the James Gang with Joe Walsh and Glenn Schwartz, The Choir, Eric Carmen (pre-Raspberries), Glass Harp with Phil Keaggy, the Damnation of Adam Blessing… and the Lost Souls. Of all those bands, only the Lost Souls never released a record. Then again, they were in high school, trying to navigate dress codes and bullies—and playing in front of a couple thousand fans when not suspended. Sure, they lost a battle of the bands at Teen Fair 1968, but it was to the James Gang with Joe Walsh. And somehow it is the Lost Souls who emerge from that time and place with the greatest mystique and some of the most adventurous music, music which few have heard. Lost Souls main songwriter Denny Carleton released a cassette of the band’s original recordings in 1984. It received airplay on hundreds of college and public radio stations in the USA (and around the world), and garnered glowing reviews… and that was it, until now.Not only is this the first time the music of the Lost Souls has been available since that cassette, our Lion Productions edition is the first release for many additional Lost Souls cuts, including alternate versions of key tracks like the insightful ‘Things That Are Important’ and ‘I’m Falling’ (the closest to a hit the band ever had), all taken from the original tapes and carefully mastered. Seven bonus tracks highlight the work of Lost Soul's main songwriter Denny Carleton (one-time member of The Choir, and more surprisingly, punk legends the Pagans); selections by The Choir, Moses, Milk and Carleton, many in all possible low-fi glory, recorded on various 4-Track devices, ranging from power-pop to grimy garage.•Whopping 32-page booklet has the full story of the band and info on the recordings by Carlton
•Includes a multitude of unseen photos from his personal archive
•Carefully remastered from the original tapes (+ the occasional post-Lost Souls 45 single)•”One of the great lost groups of the 60's.” —Option Magazine CD $14 SKU:20365
PUGSLEY MUNION - Just Like You (rare garage psych 1971)-Label:GEAR FAB The great Mass. band that released this classi LP "Just Like You" in 1969. Great heavy organ coupled with fuzzed out guitar and tasteful vocals make this release a must for late 60's rockers.!! CD $10 SKU:19000
RADIO BIRDMAN -LIVING EYES (ROCKFIELD VERSION) (2CD)Label:CITADEL Living Eyes' was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales during a break in the band's 1978 tour of Britain and Europe. Relations between members were falling apart and Sire had dropped the band prior to the start of recording. Their breakup soon followed. Initial releases were cut from a tape dub of trial mixes as the band never received an official master. Red Eye Records retrieved the master tapes from Rockfield in 1995 and the album was remixed. The second CD contains the original Rockfield tracks remixed for the Redeye Records CD reissue, outtakes and the 1989 12-inch EP 'More Fun'. CD $19 SKU:19468
RHUBARBS REVENGE - Confessions Of A Big Lankey Dope (1973 classic psych )Label:GEAR FAB Don't let the title of this 1973 album fool you - this New Jersey-based band laid down some great covers of period music, and their original material isn't bad either - fewer than 100 copies of the original LP were pressed CD $10 SKU:20264
ROBBIE AND THE WEREWOLF- Live at the Waleback (Bizarre 1964 monster inspired oddity)-Label:GEAR FAB OK, so here we have one of the weirdest and most bizarre albums ever recorded. Pretty much unsurpassed in its level of incredible strangeness, this ultra-rare album from the early sixties (1964) California coffee- house circuit is like no other. Robbie is a folksinger of the frantic variety with a fetish for monsters. This inspired some of the most bizarre songs ever committed to vinyl. It was at The Wale Back in LA one heady night in 1964, that Robbie's solo act was captured for posterity by engineer Reice Hamel, now renowned as a pioneer of live recording techniques. The patrons lapped up Robbie's act although some of the more faint-hearted may have experienced a frisson of terror as he prowled amongst them, sweat dripping from his beard, laughing maniacally, during his atmospheric 'Dracula' number. With his long red hair and matching beard, Robbie was a striking performer with a manic stage presence, acting out his songs as much as singing them. His set consisted of his original songs and uniquely reworked versions of folk standards, played on a beat-up twelve-string guitar. Robbie would later join The Brain Train in 1967 and his wife Barbara “Sandi” Robison would become the lead vocalist for The Peanut Butter Conspiracy (PBC) . Featuring liner notes from Alan Brackett of The PBC and UK collector extraordinaire Gray Newell. CD $10 SKU:19459

ROOSTERS All of Our Days (60s jangly garage W stunning never-before-seen photos.) - Label:BREAK-A-WAY The Roosters have been known among fans and followers of the Californian mid 60s folk rock scene for a long time. Their “One Of These Days” b/w “You Gotta Run” 45 has been included on early garage compilations and is a huge favourite among collectors. Less well known is their second and at least as brilliant 45 “Rosebush” / “Ain’t Gonna Cry Anymore”. Additionally there´s a rare 1965 surf/mersey punk single released under the name “Five More”, an early 1965 acetate put down as the Avengers and most of all, three 1966 stunning unreleased folk/garage janglers recorded at Gold Star Studio. This collection finally puts all these gems in one place and unravels the enigmas behind the band on a LP sized full glossy insert with a detailed history of the band emerging from the memoirs of guitarist and songwriter Timothy Ward and the band’s vocalist Ray Mangigian. This is embellished with a load of stunning never-before-seen photos. Finally here´s the legacy of an underrated, but excellent band direct from Los Angeles, the mid-Sixties epicenter of jangle – The ROOSTERS! CD $10 SKU:19670
ROSS DE CHENE HURRICANES- LOWLIGHTS (GARAGE PUNK) -Label:OFF THE HIP Eddy Current Suppression Ring styled rock from Melbourne” With their tough-as-nails garage rock attack, Ross De Chene Hurricanes proudly celebrate the tradition of garage punk. You can hear the attitude in the Black Lips-ish ‘Sun Don’t Set When You’re Cool’ – what’s youth for if you can’t muscle through the toughest situation with a bulletproof sneer and a casual wink? Then there’s the specious culinary analysis of ‘TV Dinner’, all post-Ramones simplicity and domestic banality; the Digger and The Pussycats-like introverted pop psychology of ‘Personality Disorder’; and the King Khan-inspired career counselling of ‘In A Rut’. CD $5 SKU:19250
ROTOMAGUS - The Sky Turns Red: Complete Anthology(1971 protopunk) Label:LION On Julian Cope’s excellent Head Heritage web-site, the Seth Man raves about Rotomagus thus: “The first time I heard this track (‘Fighting C*ck’), I did not freak out. I merely walked into a nearby closet and screamed my head off for a minute solid, beat the floor and ripped my t-shirt... then I cowered when it hit me: this thing came out in 1971? Before “Raw Power”?! I just lost my mind... The only thing that predates this monster in terms of being a full-on amassing of all things heavy are all the many key points on Sir Lord Baltimore’s “Kingdom Come” LP and THAT’S it, brother. Hard to believe this is all pre-1971, as much of the demo is not just proto punk but proto hardc*re—with enough fiery attitude to make you want to scream along. The vocals are wild, while the guitar riffs and grinds and approaches a Stooges via Motorhead apocalyptic grandeur. Amazing! CD $10 SKU:14512
ROTTERS - Wrench to the Nuts Vol 78( Old School CLASSIC PUNK!) Label:DIONYSUS Old school, classic punk rock with all its crude, rude, politically wrong offensiveness and raw energy intact! SATWA-Lailson, Lula Côrtes (1973 Brazilian Folk trance gems)Label:TIME LAG Written, recorded and released just as Brazil's military dictatorship reached the climax of its long black arc, the one and only album by Satwa is a divinely subtle protest. Now reissued for the first time, Satwa, often cited as Brazil's first independent record, is a mellow starburst of acoustic jangle. Formed after the return of Lula Côrtes and Lailson from their respective foreign excursions (the former home after the requisite Moroccan sojourn, the latter a young long-hair back from the States), Satwa lasted only a year, perhaps due to their differing stripes. But for 11 days in January 1973 the pair jammed cross-legged and produced the folk trance gems that adorn this self-titled debut. At a time when censors caused newspapers to run cake recipes on their front pages in place of rejected news stories, Lailson only lets the occasional throat drone slip through his lips. Largely void of voice and word, the songs (Côrtes plucking steely leads from his sitar while Lailson's 12-string thrums crystalline chords) are loose and lovely. The sole interference in these glistening arabesques is the hoary electric fretwork Robertinho on ‘Blues do Cachorro Muito Louco,’ the most explicitly fried track. Otherwise, Côrtes and Lailson are left to experiment in musty silence. Seemingly taped live, each track is a dry documentation of the duo's gently rambling improvisations. Far from the recombinant psychedelia of tropicalismo that reigned over the pre-hippie underground in Brazil's bustling metropolises five years earlier, Satwa play bed peace bards. In double-mono, or fake stereo, Satwa is raw, untreated mentalism translated into pure songflow. At times exhausted and dusty – ‘Atom,’ or archaically splendorous (‘Valse Dos Cogumelos’), the duo's spiraling scrolls etched in rustic timbres unfurl gracefully. Satwa is a quiet triumph.” —Bernardo Rondeau, Dusted. The CD version is identical to the out of print LP version, only smaller—it comes in a mini LP style sleeve, with folded insert. CD $12 SKU:20304
THUNDERS, Johnny-Diary of a Gypsy Lover (23 TRAX ALTERNATE STUDIO CUTS,LIVE,RADIO)?Label:SONIC Punk rock guitar hero, earning a cult following for his noisy but epic style a few years before the insouciant new music gained its name. Following in the footsteps of his idol and role model Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders (born John Anthony Genzale, Jr.) lived the ultimate rock & roll life, spending most of his days churning out tough, sloppy three-chord rock & roll and gaining nearly as strong a reputation for his decades-long struggle with addiction as for his music. Thunders made his greatest impact as a member of the New York Dolls, the proto-punk glam rockers of the early '70s. During the late '70s, he was a familiar figure on the New York punk scene, both with his band the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Thunders performed and recorded steadily until his death in 1991, turning out a series of records that inadvertently documented the struggles of his life and his art. CD $10 SKU:20428

GOOD TO THE LAST DROP- VA Killer Rare Sixties & Seventies Soul - Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE (England) Killer collection of obscure soul tracks! Ember Records founder Jeffrey Kruger sought out the best soul sounds, and the label maintained a steady stream of classy soul releases throughout the sixties and seventies. The CD begins with five well-known Northern Soul tracks: Mr. Floods Party come in with a propulsive version of the Gene McDaniels song ‘Compared To What’; dance-floor favourite ‘Looky Looky’ by The Brothers Grimm is included here too. R&B flavoured items such as Jewel Akens ‘Wee Bit More Of Your Lovin’ have been getting more exposure in the clubs in recent years. The Casinos were known for their ballads, but ‘That’s The Way’ proves they could deliver a commanding performance on uptempo tracks too. Milt Matthews gives impassioned performances on four of his compositions, ‘Oh Lord (You Gotta Help Me),’ ‘That’s What I Feel For You,’ ‘Disaster Area’ and ‘Can’t See Myself Doing You Wrong.’ The Pac-Keys hip instrumental ‘Dig In’ was recorded at Hi Studios in Memphis. Dee Edwards has two tracks: the sprightly dancer ‘Why Can’t There Be Love’ and the yearning ballad ‘Hurt A Little Everyday.’ Tony & Tyrone whip up a storm on their pounding dance tracks ‘Everyday Fun’ and ‘Whip Your Loving On Me.’ Fork In The Road have the most sought-after Ember soul 45—both sides, ‘Can’t Turn Around Now’ and ‘Skeletons In The Closet’ are included. Ed Robinson’s ‘Hey Blackman’ is fine deep soul, a heartfelt call to black Americans to assert themselves. Mary Frazier Jones was best known as a professional gospel singer and offers a sanctified performance on Jackie DeShannon’s rousing message song ‘Put A Little Love In Your Heart.’ The catchy disco track ‘Good To The Last Drop,’ that also provides the title of this compilation, was produced by music business veteran Johnny Otis together with his son, guitar-star and incredibly underated solo artist Shuggie Otis. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $8 SKU:16375

T MODEL FORD- Taledragger (Muddy Waters style blues)Label:ALIVE AllMusic Review by James Allen“ On The Ladies Man, T-Model Ford comes off more than ever as a living testament to the sustaining power of the blues” Playing tunes associated with Muddy Waters ("Two Trains") and Muddy's right-hand man Little Walter ("My Babe"), and revisiting quirky original tunes he has recorded in the past like opening cut "Chicken Head Man," Ford brings to bear his rough-and-ready vocal style and forceful acoustic fingerpicking with an intensity that suggests a performer a good few decades younger." LP $16 SKU:18376
TANGERINE- The Peeling Of great long-lost album from U.S. hard psychedelic '60s band )..-Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) The great long-lost album from U.S. hard psychedelic '60s band Tangerine, released in 1971. Musically in the style of Iron Butterfly or Banchee, with great fuzzed-out guitars, booming bass and screaming vocals, including "My Main Woman," a 14-minute long spaced-out track. Remastered sound from the original tapes.
- "The Peeling of Tangerine is a stellar, accomplished album. More than anyone, the band recalls a slightly heavier Santana; the music is full of Latin chord progressions, salsafied and tribal drumming and percussion, and Al Ferraro's beautiful guitar work, as well as some of the dynamics of early-'70s psychedelia and soul." --All Music Guide (4/5) LP $15 SKU:15492
