Sarah and Hilary took the lead on a rendition of the Shirelles song “Boys” (as covered by the Beatles) before Louise joined, striking out on their own with a couple of four-song EPs in 1984: Comin’ Home Baby (popularized by Mel Tormé) and Hello, We Love You (actually the Doors’ “Hello, I Love You”). In both cases, the Milkshakes served as their backing band, Billy Childish and Mickey Hampshire penning the original numbers. Following in the footsteps of his idol and role model Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders (born John Anthony Genzale, Jr.) lived the ultimate rock & roll life, spending most of his days churning out tough, sloppy three-chord rock & roll and gaining nearly as strong a reputation for his decades-long struggle with addiction as for his music. Thunders made his greatest impact as a member of the New York Dolls, the proto-punk glam rockers of the early '70s. During the late '70s, he was a familiar figure on the New York punk scene, both with his band the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Locomotive were one of the finest bands to inhabit the West Midlands music scene of the later 1960s. Fronted by keyboardist Norman Haines (previously of the Brum Beats) Locomotive recorded a handful of great singles and one acclaimed (though largely ignored) album before disbanding in 1970. The group was managed by local jazz trumpet player Jim Simpson who was also part of the original line-up. He also managed a number of other local groups - most notably Black Sabbath. Produced by Gus Dudgeon (renowned for his work with David Bowie and Elton John) and originally released in 1969, this early UK progressive rock classic is finally available again on LP.
