SOMNUS THRONE-NEMESIS LATELY(doom,stoner, heavy psych etc!) Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS Nemesis Lately' is the second full-length album released by Somnus Throne. This LP is very much a continuation of their first album (Burning World Records 2020), but with much more attention to detail, a further exploration of the depths of each niche within 'doom,' and a greater variety of sounds. Think just as much heaviness as the first album with less drone and more action. 'Nemesis Lately' goes everywhere across the landscape of doom, stoner, heavy psych, and grunge from a welcoming kick in the teeth by a Motörhead-esque first track, through shades of Acid King, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Black Angels, The Melvins, Dead Meadow, High On Fire, The Sword, Electric Wizard, Dopelord, Black Pyramid all the way to a concluding track that strives at echoes of Led Zeppelin's acoustic prowess. It goes without saying that the entire album, and the entire Somnus Throne catalogue in total, is never more than one decapitated bat away from Black Sabbath worship. In sum-total, this album is truly a smorgasbord of all things fuzzy, doomy, smokey, sleepy, and trippy while also managing to grasp the essence of each sound -- perfect for anyone ready to doom, space, fuzz, head bang, tune in, turn up, and trip out for the next 40+ minutes. CHRISTOPHER (TX) -ST ( holy grail of American psych rock in heavy slv with obi)Label:OUT-SIDER Repress in hard cardboard sleeve with obi and insert with liner notes. Remastered. One of the holy grails of American psychedelic rock and the rarest album originally released by the collectable Metromedia label. Christopher were an underground acid rock trio featuring future Josefus drummer Doug Tull. They evolved from United Gas, a psychedelic band from Houston who rubbed shoulders with legends like The 13th Floor Elevators and Moving Sidewalks. After relocating to Los Angeles - where they changed their name to Christopher - they played at numerous biker parties and recorded their sole album in 1970 for the Metromedia label. It's an amazing example of West Coast psychedelia/acid-rock featuring strong fuzz-wah guitar, great compositions and superb musicianship. It was housed in a terrific cover depicting the band at the same hippie crash-pad where some scenes from the 'The Trip' movie were filmed. LP $29 SKU:25737

DEAR MR.TIME-GRANDFATHER (FR) (1971 obscurity Brit psych prog) Label:LONGHAIR Highly sought after album, originally released in February 1971 as Square Records 103 in the UK. The album is an obscure but genuinely impressive example of the British late psychedelic/early progressive rock sound, firmly in the same vein as the likes of the Moody Blues and early King Crimson slightly influenced by Procol Harum, contemporaries the band liked very much. Originally scheduled for December 1970 'Grandfather' was finally released in mid February 1971. Music Business Weekly said the band showed a great deal of originality and the highly influential Melody Maker wrote: "As album conceptions become more ambitious, so standards of judgement become harsher. This one makes it. It's an album to listen to. The ideas incorporated in the lyrics are imaginative. The music is carefully stitched into the fibre of the album. Although a large amount of instruments is used, there's nothing that's superficial. There are Moody Blues influences throughout including the stunning opening track 'Birth' that moves effortlessly into 'Out Of Time' - think 'On The Threshold Of A Dream' period. Another surprise is the periodic use of the "wall of saxes" that King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator and Jonesy used. The album consists of 11 parts - superb psych/prog, with excellent acoustic elements, great strings and flute, competent and pleasant vocal harmonies. 'A Prayer For Her' could easily have commercial success even now (I cannot understand why it didn't happen?), 'Your's Claudia' has interesting sound effects, while 'Years & Fortunes' and 'Grandfather' have strong flavour of medieval pieces, and 'Out Of Time' and 'Your Country Needs You?' are rather hard-edge about them. The album is an excellent addition to the collection of a conservative tuned music love of proto-progressive-psychedelic rock. KID GULLIVER -Kismet (power-pop band from Boston.)Label:PLATO UTRECHT Kid Gulliver is a power-pop band from Boston. Their music is a powerful blend of driving rhythm and sweet, hooky melodies with vocal harmony. Their songs draw on influences from a vast catalog which includes everything from 1960s British Invasion and 1970s classic rock and punk to 1980s new wave and 1990s alternative and indie pop. RICHARD TWICE -ST (1968 US pop-rock)Label:COSMIC ROCK Fuzz guitars, organ, celestial vocal harmonies, a single effort and then... eternity (or obscurity if you look at the other side of the coin). In 1968 leader Richard Atkins -Richard Manning his artistic partner and co-writer, hence the name- was building toward success, his musical adventures and philosophy not that far from the likes of The Byrds or the more eccentric Simon & Garfunkel. He'd won a contract with Mercury Records, and recorded with the Wrecking Crew members, a group of Los Angeles session musicians famous for their work with the Beach Boys, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and hundreds more. But stage fright triggered a disastrous make-or-break performance in a small Hollywood nightclub, and everything abruptly fell apart. Atkins gave up music in the prime, and for 50 years he refused even to listen to a radio, so painful were his memories of a career he was convinced could have been. Featuring top-notch backing from musicians such as Drake Levin (Paul Revere & the Raiders), Larry Knechtel (Bread), Mark Tulin (the Electric Prunes) and Rusty Young (Poco), the album -nonetheless- it's bound to appeal to all fans of high-quality early '70s US pop-rock. STRAITJACKET- DEMENTED PERVERTS (early Swedish punks 1977)Label:BUSY BEE Straitjacket with Freddie Wadling on bass and vocals was one of the first punk bands in Sweden. The first gig took place at a motorcycle club and at a gig shortly afterwards, the band was offered money by the organizer to leave the stage prematurely. The band split in the summer of 1978 and the members continued in bands such as Liket Lever, The Leather Nun and Blue For Two.
Straitjacket never had time to make an album, but Busy Bee Production has searched in the members' stashes and can more than 40 years later finally release the mythical Gothenburgpunks on LP. The album consists of a collection of demosand a live recording from the last concert at the legendary

DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION -VA 70s punk soundtrack- Label:SURVIVAL RESEAR Penelope Spheeris' ground-breaking documentary 'The Decline Of Western Civilization' captured the agony and the ecstasy of the Los Angeles punk scene of the late 1970s and its excellent soundtrack is required listening for all west coast punk fans. The raw, jagged live sets by icons such as Black Flag, the Circle Jerks, the Germs, and Fear must be heard to bebelieved and the numbers by X point to their later commercial breakthrough; Catholic Discipline, with Claude Bessy of Slash magazine, provide another nugget. CREEPY JOHN THOMAS-ST (1969 psych blues GEM) Label:LONGHAIR This is one of Long Hair's favorite psych-blues albums and every track is a forgotten gem of past generation. It starts with hard blues rock tune, 'Gut Runs Great Stone' with great rhythm that just kicks you at the very beginning, making you headbang and simultaneously tap the rhythm with your hand. Next tune is '(Do I Figure) In Your Life,' a chilled psych classic rock tune. Melody is the real thing here but highlight of this song is the guitar solo, it's one of those Hendrix's solo, with so much emotions that after few listening it became one of your favorite solos. 'You've Gotta Hide' is a bluesy tune with solid elements of pure classic rock, chorus is catchy and it's a good fitter on first side of album. 'One Way Track Blues' has an awesome blues riff, lead and acoustic guitar and filled with riffing on electric guitar. 'Trippin' Like A Dog' is another Muddy Waters-stylish blues tune but with psychedelic guitar wailing through whole song. 'Ride A Rainbow' is a psychedelic-trip themed tune, made by hippies for hippies - oriented on peace, unity and love. Thomas' guitar talent is obvious - with his psych-bluesy guitar sound he's painting every song with colors of vivid picture. Next tune, 'Green Eyed Lady,' instantly reminded one on the bass groove on 'The Other Side Of This Life' by Jefferson Airplane. 'Sun And Woman' is a winner with its cheery and catchy guitar. The pumping rhythm of 'Lay It On Me' will really satisfy you and 'Bring Back The Love' will wake the oriental side in you with its bongos and sitar. The album comes with comprehensive insert sheet with bandstory, different covers and photos. Recommended! This is the first official re-release on vinyl under licensed courtesy of Cherry Red Records Ltd, UK, remastered from a master copy. In 1967 Australian John Thomas moved to Düsseldorf, where his girlfriend lived, got a record deal with EMI and recorded one of the era's great lost albums: Rust's 'Come With Me,' (Long Hair LHC281). John meanwhile living in Cologne met up with sound engineer Conny Plank. They recorded with bassist and guitarist Andy 'Shotgun' Marx and drummer Helmut Pohl, who subsequently joined Gomorrha (both albums on CD and vinyl on Long Hair). Originally released at the end of 1969 The Melody Maker was impressed by the album: "Gutsy virile singing and fine guitar from the amazingly-named Mr Thomas supported by bass and drums. ELMER GANTRY’S VELVET OPERA--ST (Top notch UK psych album from 1968)Label:GUERSSEN Top notch UK psych album from 1968, officially reissued on vinyl for the first time. Original artwork, sourced from the original masters, and includes insert with cool photos and liner notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things). Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera evolved from R&B/soul band The Five Proud Walkers. All of the band members - Elmer Gantry (lead vocals), Colin Forster (guitar), John Ford (bass) and Richard Hudson a.k.a. Hud (drums) - were accomplished musicians with several years of work experience on the on the beat and R&B circuit before their psychedelic rebirth in the summer of 1967. With their colorful image and explosive live shows, the band soon became a favorite on the London club scene, securing a deal with the CBS subsidiary label Direction. In 1967 they released their first single, 'Flames', a minor hit that was even covered by the embryonic Led Zeppelin and was also included on the famous CBS budget compilation album 'The Rock Machine Turns You On'. In early 1968, Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera registered their self-titled debut, now considered a post-mod psychedelic classic. Influences of psych-era Beatles, Who, Small Faces, Beach Boys or early Pink Floyd are noticeable, but the band brings their own personality and offer a set of brilliant and varied songs with inventive arrangements. Highlights include the sitar laden 'Air', the terrific 'Mother Writes', driven by a killer bass line, 'Dream Starts' (a lysergic number complete with backward tapes and vocals-through-a-Leslie), the catchy pop-psych of 'Mary Jane', a terrific cover of Oscar Brown Jr.'s 'I Was Cool', or the Mellotron-fuelled 'Long Nights Of Summer' and 'Reaction Of A Young Man'. By July 1968, when the album was released, Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera had a new lineup. Colin Forster exited, and Paul Brett (ex-Tintern Abbey) took his place. They eventually disbanded in 1969 and a new line-up emerged as Velvet Opera, releasing an album. Later, Elmer played with Stretch and he also recorded with the Alan Parsons Project, Jon Lord, and Cozy Powell. John and Hud went on to success in the seventies with the Strawbs. LP $28 SKU:24937

EMPIRE -EXPENSIVE SOUND(1981 offshoot of legendary UK punk band Generation X) Label:MUNSTER Empire was an offshoot of the legendary UK punk band Generation X. Originally released in 1981 and now reissued on vinyl, 'Expensive Sound' had a huge influence on Washington D.C.'s '80s hardcore scene and the UK's neo-psychedelic movement of a few years later. LUCID GRAVE-COSMIC MOUNTAIN (heavy psych rock 70s style) YELLOW Label:ELECTRIC VALLEY Lucid Grave is a dark heavy psychedelic rock band with stoner-doomy tendencies from Copenhagen, Denmark. Their haunting inspiration emerges from the '70s heavy rock from like Black Sabbath/Coven/Hawkwind, and to the '80s punk scene like Black Flag/The Nuns. They been described as a tribute to the howling occult cinema from the '80s. In 2021 they released a single called 'Surfer Bat,' a bloody upbeat '70s heavy rock inspired song. They went back to the studio in early 2022 to record their first full length album 'Cosmic Mountain.'
