LIGHTNIN SLIM / Whispering Smith – High And Low Down / Over Easy- 2004 JEWEL CASE W BOOKLET Label:ACE NOTE: NOT SEALED Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP . For a (some would say thankfully) short period at the beginning of the 1970s, there was a vogue for dressing up the blues with the trappings of the progressive rock and soul of the day. The down-home qualitities of singers like Muddy Waters were swamped by wah-wah guitars, electric pianos, busy rock drumming and overblown horn sections. Muddy's Electric Mud remains a disastrous episode, but other projects often produced more interesting results. The final Excello albums by Lightnin' Slim and Whispering Smith featured additional horn sections (more for the former, less for the latter) but the sheer grit and down-home bluesiness of the singers' vocals, more than compensated for the more adventurous instrumental stylings. Slim's album was produced by Jerry 'Swamp Dogg' Williams and comes with the usual quota of Swamp Dogg quirkiness. Smith's album is far more rootsy, a Louisiana blues affair, with only minor intrusions from the horns. Slim and Smith toured together frequently in their final years and these two 'contemporary' albums fit together as well as the two artists did on stage.

HAMPTON COLISEUM -LIVE IN 1981 is the first title in this series. The Rolling Stones American Tour in 1981 was the most successful tour of that year taking a then record $50 million in ticket sales. The tour was in support of the critically and commercially successful TATTOO YOU album. The show on December 18th, which was also Keith Richards' birthday, was the first ever music concert to be broadcast on television as a pay-per-view event. The footage has now been carefully restored and the sound has been newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show. CD $25 SKU:25930

CHIFF CHAFFS -UP TO NO GOOD! -Belgian garage punk incl Mummies The Fly cover-Label:TRASH WAX The long awaited debut album by The Chiff Chaffs 'Up To No Good' delves deep into the darker side of garage punk with a nod to what's gone before, however it's no retro styled opus. Young, brash and totally 21st century with only 1 cover version, The Mummies instro 'The Fly' played at breakneck speed. This album was recorded over several weekends during 2021 and given the final once over tweak by Doyley of Diablo Studios and now pressed in glorious vinyl for your listening pleasure. The killer artwork was done by 'K-rat' (Who is also Gilles, the guitarist of The Chiff Chaffs). Probably the best Cramps live performance and recording ever, with Bryan & Ivy's guitars complimenting each other most brilliantly, Nick Knox's drumming is superb, and Lux providing great vocals and between-song banter. The version of "Human Fly" is like an a-bomb exploding in your living room! The top-quality sound on the 8 demos have previously appeared on 1 or 2 reissues with inferior sound quality so get ready to hear them properly.
