Here the Everlys cover many songs by the top writers of the day including Rod Stewart, Kris Kristofferson and Jessie Winchester. The album serves as a poignant reminder that the Everly Brothers had far more to offer than just their teen idol hits. 1973's Pass The Chicken And Listen was the last album they recorded before splitting in and was produced by their original producer Chet Atkins. Isaac Hayes' 1969 solo debut Hot Buttered Soul set a soulful tone for the decade that followed, influencing innumerable artists and turning on a more conventional audience to the genre. Therefore it comes as no surprise that three quarters of that record are included on this compilation from his 1968-77 Stax Records resume (though they are heavily edited to fit the 32-song, two-CD format). Renowned as one of his generation's greatest songwriters and arrangers, Hayes punctuates his creations with hints of r&b, funk, jazz and soul. Examples here include the indelible "Theme From Shaft," a funked-up cover of Burt Bacharach's and Hal David's "The Look of Love," the slow-grooving "Do Your Thing" and a previously unreleased gospel standard, "His Eye Is on the Sparrow." LUTHER -N- THE B.B.B.'S-BEST OF VOL #2, (NY-based power-pop)Label:JARGON The B.B.B.'s (Bothered By Boredom) is a Rochester, NY-based power-pop band with singer/guitarist Luther Holtzman being the only constant in an ever-shifting line-up. Although the group formed in the early '80s at the University of Rochester and remained an on-and-off presence on the local scene thereafter, it wasn't until 1998 that the B.B.B.'s first proper album was released. This is their second one, containing great tracks that combine the style of Chuck Berry with British Invasion-affected rock'n'roll. CD $17 SKU:22673

MACARTHUR - ST (1979 U.S basement psych-prog monster)SAALE!Label:OUT SIDER U.S. basement psych-prog monster released in 1979 as an ultra-rare private pressing of 200 copies. MacArthur were formed when a young guitar player and songwriter named Ben MacArthur met a 17-year old prodigy musician called Bill Heffelfinger in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1978. Bill was not only a gifted guitar player but also a genius arranger and keyboard wizard. When Ben showed him some of the stuff he had written, Bill took the songs and transformed them into classic pieces of music. They soon recruited Jeff Bauer on bass and Scott Stockford on drums. The chemistry of MacArthur was born. The first MacArthur album, known in collector's circles as The Black Forest due to the vinyl bootleg of the same title released in the '80s, was recorded in 1979 using a four-track machine. Produced by Bill Heffelfinger, MacArthur is a progressive/psychedelic concept album highlighted by devastating, ripping fuzz guitar solos and Mini-Moog/synths attacks. CD $15 SKU:17694

DASZU-Zone of Swans/Lucid Actual + 1/2 Dativa(underground post-punk 79-83)- SAALE Label:LION with 8 page insert booklet. Unlike earlier Daszu music, Lucid Actual 2000 was digitally constructed and edited from recordings and generated loops for use in live interactive 3D performances: many of them were performed at a Digital Electronics Festival in Montreal in 1999. The introduction of a visual element into the mathematical minimalist world of Daszu composer Mark Rudolph allowed for a more ambient, repetitive, suggestive—and danceable—style.

These pieces were composed by Daszu creative mastermind Mark Rudolph via listening to combinatoric loops with an occasional long melody or vocal line spinning over time. Their style is described by Rudolph as 'hypno'—"an attempt to free the mind from its material neighborhood and make possible a better future based on mutual respect and kindness, despite the fact that our home is not here in life." It is life-affirming, energetic music—particularly the *Enticement sequence of 'Butterfly Close to Me,' 'Kanushnaya Sweet,' 'Oo Eh' and its inverse 'Hey Suni'—music for a joyous club life that may or may not exist or have ever existed—or which perhaps may be encouraged into existence by experiencing this music. LOCKSLEY HALL-ST (1969 Spokane psych rarity) Label:GEAR FAB This relatively unknown Spokane, WA. psychedelic band recorded this eerie and haunting LP in the Spring of 1969 at the legendary Audio Recorders in Seattle, WA. Produced by Sonics engineer Kearney Barton and long time Northwest guitarist Ned Neltner (Mark Five, Gas Company, Junior Cadillac), the beautiful vocals of Shannon Svenson are very reminiscent of the sounds being produced at that time by It's A Beautiful Day, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother & The Holding Company. KILLED BY DEATH- Vol. 1 ( EXCELLENT RARE 70S U.S. PUNK. - Label:REDRUM The first volume of Killed by Death appeared around 1988, the brainchild of (according to legend) a New York-based Swedish record collector who gathered up 15 of his all-time favorite new wave-ish rarities and unleashed them on what was then very much a fledgling punk collectors' market.

Concentrating almost wholly on '80s Americana, but with the odd early import to shake things up, the end result is an eclectic but nevertheless exciting package, its contents ranging from the Slugs, featuring former New York Doll Rick Rivets, to suitably macabre odes to L.A.'s Hillside Strangler by both the Hollywood Squares and the Child Molestors; a live Nuns cut, and a brace of anti-social stomps by the Authorities. There's also some neatly gratuitous nastiness from Britain's Users, a 1977-era punk band that sounds positively old fashioned compared to some of the young blades switching around elsewhere. Especially if you were one of the chancers attempting to call her "Plain." Or, if you were attempting to cause aggro for her beloved Dawn. And these were The Knuckle Girls. Well, two of them, anyway. CROOKED OAK -From Little Acorns Grow (70s folk)-Label:SEELIE COURT Crooked Oak is one of the very few folk bands who imbued their songs with mystery, power and grandeur. The combination of Steve Evans’ sonorous voice and haunting Irish pipes convert the songs into a beautiful mystical experience. It might compare to the stunning ‘Wild and Beautiful’ by Silly Wizard, with that same captivating majesty of form. Very rare, the late great record dealer and collector Walter Geertsen, one of the founding dealers who helped shape the progressive rock market, considered this LP as one of his personal favourites, alongside COB "Moyshe Mc Stiff" and John St Field “Control." Very different LPs, but all with moments of aching, dark melancholia. So to describe Crooked Oak as ‘acid folk’ would be misleading, instead it is a deep, profound and beautiful work of art, lifted by superb vocals and wrapped in a sense of mystery. The band channel the music, tradition, heritage, and the magic that still courses through Sainted Albion’s blood soaked lands. In that sense it sits alongside Spriguns of Tolgus and Stone Angel as one of the most beautiful folk albums of all time. Steve Evans, the main force, died after living in Africa a few years ago. Deuter began to go into the mountains to record birds, water and wind to accompany his music; he also began spending much of his time at an ashram in Poona, India. Deuter was also one of the first artists to blend that Eastern influence into his music.
