FOX- Simple Songs (West coast pop 1972) Label:GEAR FAB On the heels of the Majic Ship breakup, guitarists Phil Polimeni and Tom Nikosey added the alents of Jim Ayoub to form Fox, the Brooklyn-based acoustic trio whose original melodies and harmonies set the stage for their move West to California in 1972. These recordings have been revived, sounding amazingly fresh and timeless. Half of Fox's tapes were made at the infamous Glenn Holly Studio, owned and operated by Phil Polemini, where may famous musicians would hide away to record, late into the morning hours. This is the very studio where Phil's friend and legendary guitarist Tommy Bolin jammed endlessly from 1972 through 1976. CD $10 SKU:19649

Complete recordings (1966-1975) of this legendary band from Michigan, including their three killer 45s plus unreleased recordings and alternate takes. Master tape sound, insert with photos and liner notes. The Unrelated Segments created some of the most celebrated garage-punk anthems of all time. Tracks like “Cry, Cry, Cry” with its teenage-angst vocals and out of control fuzztone guitar break, “The Story Of My Life” with that bizarre and ultra-punk bass line or the moody-punker “It’s gonna rain” have been included on countless garage comps (Back From The Grave, Acid Dreams, Nuggets, etc) and have been covered by numerous bands who worship them as 60s punk Gods. TOBY TWIRL- ST (60s pop PSYCH) Label:MEGA DODO Seeing that 60s Psychedelia really didn’t hit the UK provinces full on until 1970, there was always a flip side to Swinging London. For every band of dilettante acid dandies freaking out at the Roundhouse or getting it together in the country there were a dozen hard gigging bands playing the northern clubs and discotheques every weekend. Apart from a few isolated pockets outside of the groovy epicenter, the fall out from the Summer Of Love was a London thing…………that’s where the really ambitious bands had to base themselves, however seeing that the Pop charts were full of hip tunes, a watered down version of Psychedelia seeped into almost every town in the UK. There were loads of venues and a load of bands available to play them……….they were hardworking professional musicians who could make a decent living mixing a dash of cabaret and comedy with a set of Freakbeat/Psych tinged pop tunes and if they were lucky they would be given an opportunity to record a single. Toby Twirl were one such band, originally from Newcastle they were playing regular gigs between 1968 until 1971……..they had the threads but were slightly uncool and no doubt the closest they came to a psychedelic experience was the hallucinogenic effects of Newcastle Brown Ale, but by the sound of their long overdue debut album they could really tear up a dancefloor on a Saturday night in Blackburn. The tapes of previously thought lost demo and showcase recordings were recently discovered by the band's drummer, John Reed, which have been carefully transferred to a digital medium and professionally mastered. You already know about their 1979 debut album and you know it's a masterpiece, but did you know about their second album recorded in 1984? Surely not, especially because it was a cassette-only release with a very short print-run. The sound quality on this reissue is splendid, and the music itself is equally as good, if not better than, their self-titled debut and is a real must for any folk and psych-folk lover. The LP was extremely popular with Perfumed Garden listeners and was mentioned in the lyrics of Geoffrey Prowse’s fan tribute to the program, “The Perfumed Garden Blues, or John Peel’s lament”. WILSON, CHRIS, and the SNEETCHES- ST Flamin Groovies related power pop ) - Label:MARILYN Wilson, who was the George Harrison to Cyril Jordan's Lennon/McCartney during the Groovies' most British Invasion-inspired phase, is completely in charge here; along with three spirited live renditions of Flamin Groovies classics, "Between the Lines," "I'll Cry Alone," and, interestingly, "Slow Death" (which was written and recorded by the Roy Loney incarnation of the band before Wilson even joined), the album includes full-band remakes of songs that had appeared on Wilson's 1991 acoustic solo album Random Centuries, including an appealing, Byrds-like rendition of the winsome "If Wishes Were Horses." In true Groovies tradition, a faithful cover of a '60s classic, "Goin' Back" (a Gerry Goffin and Carole King gem that the Byrds themselves, among others, had recorded) rounds out the selection. Wilson is in fine voice, and the Sneetches, as always, sound great, but the arrangements tend to wander a bit too much; although the album is a '60s-vintage hair, over 30 minutes long, only seven songs fill that space, with only two under the all-important four-minute mark.
