BROWN ACID -The Twelth Trip (60s and 70s heavy psych/proto metal tracks) Label:RIDING EASY That’s right, we’ve reached a toker’s dozen editions of brilliant long-lost, rare, and unreleased hard rock, heavy psych, and proto-metal tracks from the 60s-70s. Clearly this has become a bonafide archaeological movement as each new installment leads us to more exciting new discoveries. Like we’ve done throughout this series, all of these tracks were painstakingly licensed legitimately and the artists were paid. Make yourself comfortable and prepare for yet another deep, deep dive into the treasure trove of dank, subterranean, wild-eyed and hairy rock ’n’ roll. COMP LP $20 SKU:24565

CLOWN- Lord of the Ringside (70s prog rock rarity)-Label:ANAZITISI RECORDS Clown were an excellent progressive rock sextet which had the luck (???) to produce only one single in early 1972 for CBS, containing the tracks 'Lord of the Ringside' and ‘Rumania'. The band’s line up was including the classic rock core of guitar-bass-drums augmented by the sax-flute-keyboards progressive touches. Superb musicianship, beautiful orchestration and rhythm changes which flirt with the late 60’s psychedelia and early 70’s British folk rock.

At the same sessions which produced their single, Clown recorded six demos. These tracks were intended for a forthcoming full-length album by the same label, which unfortunately never materialized. On the bright side, they appear here for the very first time, together with both sides of the band’s only single and four more tracks recorded as their first demo in January 1971.

All 12 songs included on “Lord of the Ringside” LP here, come from old surviving tapes which have been carefully restored and remastered. 'Ed Welch', the song which concludes the album, is taken from a semi-destroyed tape — but as it is one of their best (and indeed heavier) songs, and an excellent example of Clown’s powerful live presence, Clown members wanted to be included. And so we did our best to make that possible, restoring it from the scratch.

•Fully laminated cover.
•4-page LP-sized color insert with bio, photos, lyrics and memorabilia.
•Limited to 200 black copies. LP $38 SKU:24561

FINCHLEY BOYS -Lost Tributes (8 unrel. heavy psych tracks recorded 1968 - 1971)Label:ANAZITISI “Lost Tributes” consists of eight unreleased heavy psychedelic tracks recorded between 1968 and 1971 by this prolific Illinois band. Included is the scheduled, but never materialized 7” single from 1969, which would have contained different, punchy and more wild, recordings of two Finchley Boys standards, 'Hooked' and 'Outcast'. It also includes the almost 9 minute long 'Who goes there?', perhaps the most psychedelic offering by the band. LP $34 SKU:20821

HOMESTEAD & WOLFE- Our Times (1975 psych folk w. insert, bio and photos -Label:ANAZITISI (GREECE) The first -ever vinyl reissue of Homestead & Wolfe's lone and excellent album. "Despite being recorded at Gold Star in L.A. and featuring heavy session names such as Hal Blaine and Al Casey, this irresistible femme-vox melodic folk rock/psych delight has remained mysteriously unknown for 30 years. You'll be hard-pressed to find faults with its mix of various late 1960s California styles, ranging from lyte Neighb'rhood Child'n top 40 psych over Carolyn Hester Coalition/Yankee Dollar folk moves into all-out West Coast acid rock a la Ill Wind." -- Acid Archives LP $34 SKU:24567

In 2010, an album with unreleased (early 70's) Sotiris' recordings came to light. ROLAND, PAUL-Bates Motel (70s proto steam punk cult rocker)LTD ED 180 gram Label:69 WATT-WATT2 Cult English baroque rocker Paul Roland (who was once described as 'the male Kate Bush' by label mate Robyn Hitchcock) has left the mock gothic grandeur of his past albums such as 'Danse Macabre', the Edwardian proto-steampunk offerings of 'A Cabinet of Curiosities' and the dark woods of folk-themed 'Grimm' to plug his electric guitar in and thrash to death such titles as 'I Was A Teenage Zombie', 'Tortured By The Daughter of Fu Manchu', 'How I Escaped From Devil's Island' and the title track ‘Bates Motel’. Someone has evidently been listening to The Cramps and Johnny Cash! For those who might find the pace rather bracing, there are also a couple of spaced-out psych tracks (including a paean to the dark Indian goddess Kali) and a creepy tale or two with a suitably atmospheric setting - one inspired by a ghost story written by England's master of the macabre M.R. James ('The Wailing Well'). The lighter side of Roland's macabre humour is embodied in a couple of classic Sixties psych-punk tracks with a twist (‘Tortured By The Daughter of Fu Manchu’ and 'Crazy'), plus a sly pastiche of self-righteous evangelical preachers on the gospel tinged 'Promised Land' and a typical Roland offbeat Arabian adventure ‘Khatmandu’. •New remixed sound + alternative cover artwork to the Sireena 2013 CD edition. •Limited to 200 black vinyl copies. Factory sealed album. 180gr vinyl as usual. Roland: "In the late 1980s I interviewed several members of the Velvet Underground for a national English newspaper and at the end of the interviews I asked Nico, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker if they would be interested in recording with me and they seemed genuinely enthusiastic. So I wrote some songs for them and sent the tapes over to the States, but there were technical problems that couldn't be resolved… so the songs were shelved, until now. I had spoken to Sterling several times on the phone and he had written back saying that he was keen to record and he liked the songs, particularly the structures, I remember, but I didn't pursue it, thinking that we had all the time in the world to get together. Then sadly he died and soon after so did Nico. Then my own music went off in a more psych-folk direction and I forgot all about the PR/VU project. But recently after making a number of intimate acoustic albums I was itching to rock again and I thought it was time to dust off the songs I had written for them and complete those which I hadn't finished. 'Bates Motel' is not Paul Roland imitating the Velvet Underground - that would be pointless - it is the album that I would have made with Mo, Sterling and Nico had I been a bit more aggressively ambitious and made sure the opportunity wasn't lost." FREAK SCENE - Psychedelic Psoul ( 60s raga rock ) SALE- Label:LION Fresh from his studio experiences with The Deep and the Third Bardo, Rusty Evans decided to create a psychedelic “happening” which would also function as a recording group. He gathered together a few New York musicians, including three members of the Deep (David Bromberg among them), dubbed them the Freak Scene, and began work on the “Psychedelic Psoul” album, which was released in 1967. The intention was to pursue the Indian-Eastern influence in rock—and this raga rock idea is used to great effect on songs like ‘Grok’ and ‘Rose of Smiling Faces’ (sounds like it could have been the sole inspiration for Damon’s “Song of a Gypsy” album). As the only true psychedelic band on Columbia at the time, the Freak Scene got decent exposure. No doubt this number would have been much greater had the band been a touring ensemble, instead of a one-time psychedelic event. The album is gritty, tense, subversive, brittle, and yes, psychedelic. Perfect in its own way. Included as bonus tracks are nine demos from the summer of 1966, some of which would end up in quite a different musical context on The Deep “Psychedelic Moods” and Freak Scene albums. These songs, with their P. F. Sloan/Dylan (or even Sixto Rodriguez) vibe deepen the legacy of edgy, insightful songs from Rusty Evans/Marcus Uzilevsky. Comes with a 16-page booklet which includes a biographical portrait of Marcus, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:11550

JARDINE- Look in the Window( lost jewel of late-1960's UK psych)Label:LION Jardine’s album was recorded in three glorious weeks in June 1969, at Sounds Aquarian Studios, a stone’s throw from that justifiably famous fashion hub, Carnaby Street. The sessions were fun. Polydor was supposed to release the album. Musicians dropped in to say "hello" and ended up on the record (uncredited)—among them Peter Frampton, Andrew "Andy" Bown (Herd and Status Quo), and Brian Appleyard (drummer from East of Eden). Singer Mickey Cox had been in Robert Plant’s pre-Led Zeppelin group The Band of Joy—it was Cox, in fact, who became their singer when Plant left the band. But suddenly, thanks to band management problems, the LP was shelved. Keith Law, who had written all of the songs, joined Velvett Fogg for their only album, and Jardine was forgotten. Now, forty years later, you can be among the first to discover the brooding excellence of these tracks, music both strange and sinister, with moments of fragile beauty. There are some very pretty songs here (haunting melodies abound), but there is no escaping the dark side of life (‘Masochists of Strangulation,’ ‘Execution of the Child,’ and monumental dirge ‘Blackbirds of Jardine’, which tells of self-same birds, and the fact that they will “destroy you, and leave you pain, pain, pain”), songs perhaps more akin to the band Comus than to anything else we have encountered from the psychedelic era. There are also heavy guitar solos, churning organ, flute, and flowing sitar, for good measure. A 16-page booklet includes a band history lyrics, and comments on the songs by Keith Law. A lost jewel of late-1960's UK psychedelia, from a short-lived but charismatic band! CD $10 SKU:10134

PSYCHEDELIC MOODS PART 2 - Sunset Love & Inner Sanctum Journey Thru Inner Space)Label:CICADELIC After releasing the “Psychedelic Moods” album, in October of 1966, Mark Barkan envisioned another psychedelic album for his next release. It was to be performed by a Greenwich Village band called “Inner Sanctum”. The theme of the album was to be a psychedelic journey into the various psyches of the mind. The trip started with a journey into the past (The House Of Yesterday) then covered the inner workings of the mind (ID) then the descent into madness (Hydro Pyro) hallucination (Purple Floating) and finally culminating in nirvana (Snow Petals). Unfortunately, Barkan was unable to find a record company willing to lease the masters and so they languished for decades unreleased. Now, at long last the masters for this aborted album are mixed from the original four track tapes and forty plus years later the psychedelic sounds of “Inner Sanctum” are now ready, willing, and able to blow your mind. Sunset Love” was comprised of band members from New Mexico and Texas. In the fall of 1968, thirteen original songs and two covers were recorded for a potential album, but nothing was ever released. “Sunset Love’s” lush harmonies, soaring vocals, superior song writing, and flower power consciousness pervaded their songs with a depth and quality unheard of from most 60s’ bands. While their sound can be compared to such bands as “The Mamas and The Papas”, “The Peanut Butter Conspiracy”, “Spanky and Our Gang”, and “The Love Exchange”, “Sunset Love” had their own inimitable style that transcended a generic stereo-type. Had Sunset Love released their album in the 60’s, there is no doubt it would have been an instant rarity of excellence. The “Sunset Love” tapes are sourced from the original stereo versions and reveal the great harmonies and surrealistic lyrics of an undeservedly overlooked and forgotten band from the late 60’ CD $10 SKU:12399

TROYES - Rainbo Chaser-Complete REcordings (67 psych)- Label:CICADELIC RECORDS The Troyes exploded onto the music scene with 'Rainbow Chaser' a regional smash hit that climbed to number 3 on the top 40 in September of 1966. Sensing a new phenomenon, famed bandleader Ray Anthony (who already had smash hits with 'Dragnet' and 'Peter Gunn') signed the group to his new rock label Space Records. His faith in the band was so big that nearly two albums worth of material were recorded at United Sound (Detroit) in 1966 and 1967. Unfortunately, only two singles were issued and the rest of the material was never released. Now for the first time ever, all twenty-four of The Troyes' recordings are compiled on one album. The recordings range from far-out psychedelic to unhinged fuzz and farfisa garage to moody haunting sounds. Included with this album is a detailed booklet of rare photos, radio surveys, newspaper articles, and Troyes memorabilia CD $10 SKU:19761

A FINE DAY AND A BRILLIANT EVENING -Cherry Red Rarities 1983-85 (willowy pop)Label:CHERRY RED More willowy pop of yesteryear from the vaults of Cherry Red. The second release in the Cherry Red Rarities series, is a collection of rare and upstanding tracks from three of Cherry Red’s most popular artists: Jane And Barton, Grab Grab The HaddocUk (yes, they really did exist) and In Embrace. “The juxtaposition of the three artists here seems coincidental, yet they successfully present different facets of the sound of the label during the early 80's. Jane & Barton start with the acapella 'It's A Fine Day' which was later turned into the Opus III dancefloor smash. Flute and percussion accompany Jane on 'I Want To Be With You' to nice pastoral effects a la Virginia Astley, although the latter would have never named one of her songs 'Ha Bloody Ha', which poses such thought-provoking questions as "Did you hear about the woman who died" or "What part of a vegetable can't you eat". Simple voice and piano arrangement on 'There Is A Man' and 'You Are Over There' makes ideal lazy afternoon listening, only to be rudely disturbed by Mr.Barton's grating screech on 'You Are Over There Part Two'. Onto the marvelously named Grab Grab The Haddock, which included two of the three Marine Girls after Tracey Thorn went on to form Everything But The Girl. They pretty much carried on with the style of their previous band, only now augmented to a four-piece. Lightweight summery guitar pop, the stuff that made Cherry Red famous. In Embrace played moody melodic pop with guitar and synths. Although once described as 'introverted and emotionally unfathomable' the songs are actually quite classy and the sentiments deeply felt. 'The Darkest Horse' features a spine-tingling chord progression slightly reminiscent of the Cocteaus. They should have been big. The CD ends with a bonus video of 'It's A Fine Day'. COMP CD $5 SKU:20498

OUR BRILLIANT CAREERS -Cherry Red Rarities 1981-83-Label:CHERRY RED Cherry Red carved out an odd niche for itself apart from the general post-punk flow, thanks largely to eccentric A&R man Mike Always, whose tastes leaned towards melody, Englishness, and the 1960’s. Cherry red became a home for the dashing, debonair whimsy of he Monochrome Set, the mopy bedsit introspection of Eyeless in Gaza, jazzy-folky singer-songwriters Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt (separately and together as Everything But the Girl), and the Television/Velvets descended, plangent splendor of Felt. Although “Pillows and Prayers” is the best-known sampler of the label, its precursor “Perspectives and Distortions” (1981) includes many non-Cherry Red artists, which makes it very interesting; and “Our Brilliant Careers” (2003) scoops up archival arcane. It includes rare tracks by successful Cherry Red artists like Everything But The Girl (plus solo material from both Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt), The Nightingales and The Monochrome Set, plus many more. Most people probably know Five Or Six from their off-key but charming opener 'Portrait' from “Pillows and Prayers”; here we have six like low-key and absorbing tracks from them, most of which have never been on CD: 'Think' and 'Theme' are instrumentals that will surprise a few. There are also three early songs by Ben Watt described modestly by himself as 'dreary and tuneless'. Beautiful instrumental version of 'The Thousand Guitars of St. Dominiques' by the Fantastic Something ends up as the most surprising track—a high point of the collection.” Impressive and intriguing archive collection of rare recordings. COMP CD $5 SKU:20499

SUMMER TURNS TO AUTUMN - Ember Rock, Vol. 2 (RARE 60S PSYCH& PROG)-Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE British indie label Ember released a number of rock albums and singles between 1969 and 1972, which today are much sought after by collectors of psychedelic, progressive and folk rock sounds. Many of the best tracks from these are gathered on “Summer Turns To Autumn”. Foremost among the artists compiled here is progressive rock band Blonde On Blonde, represented by tracks from both of their Ember albums. Fantastic Voyage has salvaged two tracks from Blue Beard s album. An early songwriting/production project for Bob Welch, who next surfaced in Fleetwood Mac, the album was only released in Italy, but the single ‘Sly Willy’ was more widely available and is highly prized by collectors of funky rock. Tyrannosaurus Rex-style acoustic hippy duo Knocker Jungle and progressive folk group 9.30 Fly each managed one now highly collectable long player for the label. The remainder of the material ranges from the fuzzy psychedelic rock of Canadians The Dorians and the melodic folk rock of Paddy Maguire, backed by heavy friends Steve Winwood and Jerry Donahue (of Fotheringay), to the soul-rock fusion of Milt Matthews Inc, here interpreting a Blind Faith song, and a previously unissued folk rock rendition of ‘East Virginia’ by Polly Niles. “Summer Turns To Autumn” complement Fantastic Voyage’s existing, highly popular compilations of Ember Beat and Ember Pop, with no duplication of tracks. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $10 SKU:19046

EARTHFORCE-Ultra rare mid-70s UK acid folk LP + 12-page bookletLabel:LION "Ultra rare mid-70s UK acid folk rock recordings. Features sitar, moog, acoustic and electric guitars, assorted percussion instruments to create a Popul Vuh like soundscape. If you can imagine the perfect blend of Eastern trance/psych and English hippy acid folk rock, this would be it. Very cool and freaky."

"Earthforce were an offshoot of Ebling Mis and Oa Band formed by Steve Bayfield. Hailing from the UK, the band was influenced by a wide variety of music including English folk and acid rock. This release is culled from sessions that have never been released before, and they sound like a cross between Popul Vuh and Gong. Very tasty, very spacey and mystical vibe throughout.”

I doubt whether the name Earthforce will be familiar to many, mainly due to the fact that they merely existed for a couple of years, with only a 60x copy private press cassette release in 1977 to their name during their time together. Earthforce were a musical collective out of step with the punk age, children of the UK free festival scene — events like the Psilocybin Festival — enjoying a connection with the earth, singing meditative songs with lyrics about the “moontide of the pagan heart” and the “wind blowing seaward.” The end result is a fantastic album, loosely charting the course of a day, from dawn to moonrise. The diverse instrumentation (sitar, 12-string guitar, flageolet, electric guitars, fretless bass, harmonium, doogi, synthesizer, acoustic guitar, percussion, tabla, cymbals, etc.) are used in ways which bring unexpected wonders to the Earthforce sound.

And if the late date of Earthforce’s existence is at all worrying to you, as you probably remember, Caedmon’s legendary debut album, also released as a private pressing — and one of the most sought-after progressive folk-rock albums from the UK — came out in 1978.

Had Earthforce opted for vinyl instead of cassette for their release, we have little doubt that an Earthforce LP would be at least as sought after as the Caedmon LP — and so, with that idea in mind, we have made an Earthforce LP.

•The first ever vinyl issue of these recordings

•Comes with a 12-page full color booklet with band info, photos, and lyrics

•Newly remastered by Earthforce band leader Steve Bayfield

PLASTIC CLOUD -ST (70s psych with lyric insert)Label:LION Plastic Cloud recorded, quite simply, one of the greatest psychedelic albums ever made. This is a record with few equals, full of foreboding melodies and lovely hippie harmonies, as well as some of the most superb and trippiest, Eastern sounding fuzz guitar ever recorded. There is no point singling out a specific track, they are all excellent -- one is equally as good as the next. Take for example the album centerpiece, the ten-and-a-half-minute 'You Don't Care,' an insane piece of social commentary that features terrific back-of-the-mix fuzz guitar as an elusive focal point to its extended pounding-drum laden instrumental breaks; with a great chorus and a plaintive melody in the verse, it doesn't overstay its welcome, winding its way to a final freak out. Essential psychedelia!" 180 gram vinyl; Comes with lyric insert and replica vintage press release. LP $24 SKU:24344
