HARDY FRANCOISE- MON AMI LA ROSE - 180-GRAM (GATEFOLD)-Label:FUTURE DAYS Following the French success of 1962’s Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles and 1963’s Le Premier Bonheur Du Jour, 1964 was the year Hardy went truly international. Having competed in the Eurovision Song Contest and acted in a Roger Vadim film, this was the year Dylan dedicated a poem to her on the sleeve of Another Side and the year she ventured to Britain to record English language songs for the first time.Hardy’s first three French EPs of the year, from which just "Pourtant Tu M’aimes" appears on Mon Amie La Rose, were largely recorded on home soil with Paris-based arranger Mickey Baker. After the third, Françoise changed tack, abandoned French studios and arrangers, and headed to London’s Pye Studios. She would not record again in France until 1968, instead employing a series of British producers and musicians that even included then-studio guitarist Jimmy Page. LP $25 SKU:17225

The first volume of Killed by Death appeared around 1988, the brainchild of (according to legend) a New York-based Swedish record collector who gathered up 25 of his all-time favorite new wave-ish rarities and unleashed them on what was then very much a fledgling punk collectors' market.Concentrating almost wholly on '80s Americana, but with the odd early import to shake things up, the end result was an eclectic but nevertheless exciting package, its contents ranging from the Slugs, featuring former New York Doll Rick Rivets, to northwest D.I.Y. originators the Wipers, but climaxing with one of the most in-demand records of the age, the then-ascendant Beastie Boys' super-rare Pollywog Stew EP. In 1966, label boss Bob Shad had issued several unsuccessful singles by Bay Area groups, and by collecting them together on LP he unwittingly created one of the more satisfying surveys of the scene at the time. The groups included on "A Pot Of Flowers" were the Wildflower, pioneering folk-rockers who were an early fixture at the Fillmore and Avalon; San Jose's popular garage band the Otherside; legendary East Bay punks the Harbinger Complex; and, from southern California, the idiosyncratic Euphoria, whose off-beat take on psychedelia has given the group a cult reputation.
