HANGMEN - What a Girl Cant Do (reissue of 65 classic )-Label:WINDIAN Originally released in 1965, The Hangmen's first single "What A Girl Can't Do" propelled the group to regional stardom, even supplanting The Beatles on local charts! HIGHER STATE -(CONSIDER IT) A DEBT REPAID -Label:13 O'CLOCK BW IN A WORLD THAT JUST DON'T CARE`` The Higher State is back with a new top-notch two-sider! Picking up right where they left off with their last full-length album, the group has dialed back their sound a bit further for an even more stripped-down affair. Both songs, one each written by band members Marty Ratcliffe and Paul Messis, are really shot through the prism of '66 as the group once again amply displays 60's-style garage moves meshed with folk-punk vibes, whilst as usual adding incisive and thought-provoking lyrics to the mix. Mastered by Crypt Records head-honcho Tim Warren, the new single comes housed in a old-school, die-cut company sleeve with an insert and download code included. So continues the journey for the Higher State! 45 RPM $6 SKU:16822

KILLER BEES- Buzzin the Town -Features two classic KBD bangers- Label:WINDIAN Originally issued in 1979 on the fantastic DC imprint Limp Records, this 45 features the two classic KBD bangers "T.V. Violence" and "Rock And Roll Hangover." Not the usual "DC Punk" you know: It's fucking better! (2013) 45 RPM $6 SKU:16845

CLEAR LIGHT- ST ( 67 psych/pop/garage) -Label:LEEMOON RECORDS (GERMANY) Reissue of LA garage psych band Clear Light's 1967 self-titled album, their sole full-length release.
- Dark rock tunes with forceful fuzz guitars on body-shaking rhythm patterns alternate with melodic tunes that feature lush, clean guitar harmonies.
- Recalls Clear Light's contemporaries The Seeds, The Byrds, Count Five, The Shadows of Knight, and Blues Magoos.
What might have been just one album out of so many great ones from 1967 -- there are a hell of a lot struggling for one's attention -- makes its first impression with a promising cover image, featuring some fashionable youngsters in a patch of palm tree forest and a fluid, light blue band logo above them. The band is from Los Angeles, it turns out -- a promising sign considering the vibrant Californian scene of the time. Then, upon first listen, the first fuzzed-out rocker sends the listener's soul into a state of simmering excitement; the further one explores this piece of morning maniac music the more the colorful aspects of the band's creativity enchant. Dark -- or at least gruff -- rock tunes with heavy fuzz guitar alternate with melodic tunes that feature lush, clean guitar harmonies one might expect from fellow LA natives The Byrds -- it's no wonder that Clear Light were heavily influenced by their compatriots. They try out different twists and turns on psychedelic pop and rock, early heavy stuff, and garage sounds. Their melody writing is just captivating. The most outstanding track on this, their sole album, may be "Mr. Blue," for its remote structures far from the typical pop tune. It starts with a sluggish roll on the floor-tom that reminds one of a scene of a convict slowly walking up to the gallows while the judge reads the sentence; and indeed, there is a voice that speaks to "Mr. Blue" and tells him about his fate. In between, the track turns into a classic heavy garage rocker with a catchy chorus line, and with each verse, spooky guitar howls join the speaking voice. The grand finale of "Mr. Blue" is an instrumental explosion of pure garage psychedelia. More colorful pop with changing rhythms and memorable melodies follows. Contemporary rock acts that were playing in a similar league include The Seeds, The Byrds, Count Five, The Shadows of Knight, and Blues Magoos. They had everything a band needed to become a major act on the scene back then, so why not drag this classic back to the light and inspire younger generations with Clear Light's brand of stormy harmonies and forceful fuzz guitars on body-shaking rhythm patterns. An all-killer release. CD $18 SKU:16841

TELESCOPES- Hidden Fields (psych) -Label:TAPETE (Germany Founded in 1987 by Stephen Lawrie, The Telescopes have been mining a unique anti-myopic seam of highly influential experimental, drone, noise, dream, and psych ever since. Their first record was a split flexi-disc with Loop on Cheree Records. After a two more critically acclaimed singles for the label, they moved to What Goes On Records, with which they released another two EPs and their 1989 debut album, Taste, all of which found their way to the top of the UK independent charts. Tours followed withSpacemen 3, Primal Scream, and The Jesus and Mary Chain, and it wasn't long before The Telescopes were headliners themselves; Bark Psychosis, Whipping Boy, Slowdive, Bleach, The Cranes, and Ride all played some of their earlier shows supporting them. In 1990 the group appeared at one of the UK's biggest festivals of the time, Reading Festival, where they were one of the few bands that wasn't bottled off the stage. However, the increasing violent interactions with audiences at their shows saw the group step away from their noise origins and head toward a more introspective, psychedelic sound. It was around this time that What Goes On folded and Alan McGee stepped in to release the group's material on his Creation Records. The group released their second album and a string of EPs for the label, working with Douglas Hart (The Jesus and Mary Chain) on their videos, visual artist Paul Cannel on their sleeve work and Laika's Guy Fixsen in the studio. In 1992, the group began an eight-year hiatus, resuming output in the year 2000 with a revolving lineup and a stream of well-received releases. In 2011 Portishead invited The Telescopes to play at the first ever ATP festival at Alexandre Palace in London, and the following year The Black Angels and Reverberation Appreciation Society invited them to Austin Psych Fest. Following the 2013 release of their seventh LP, Harm, on Seattle-based label Neon Sigh, the group toured almost non-stop over the following two years, covering Scandinavia, Europe, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, the Ukraine, the UK, USA, the Middle East, and Ireland. Hidden Fields, The Telescopes' eighth album, is an unexpected return from the group's recent expeditions into the outer reaches of free-drone noise -- the psychiatric sounds of The Telescopes in a concise inner sensory rush, and their most song-based output in some time. Recorded in Glasgow with St Deluxe. CD $17 SKU:16842

BRAINBOX- Dark Rose - (60s Dutch psych ) - Label:PSEUDONYM It comes packaged in a magnificent gatefold-cover with rare photos and liner-notes including exclusive interview material. Remastered in the 24-bit domain from the original master tapesBrainbox was something special. The band not only featured some of the Netherlands' most preternaturally talented musicians, but in less than three years they produced a recorded legacy that was truly world class. Much of their best work appeared on their 1969-71 singles, which have been compiled on this definitive 2-LP collection, pressed on 180gm vinyl and dynamically re-mastered from the original tapes. The original lineup with lead-guitarist Jan Akkerman, bassist Andr Reijnen, drummer Pierre van der Linden and vocalist extraordinaire Kaz Lux deliver the goods on pile-driving blues rock songs like 'Down Man' and 'Dark Rose,' and the hard-hitting Hendrix-inspired rocker 'Amsterdam, The First Days' -- all presented in their original mono mixes. After Akkermans departure, Brainbox expanded its musical palette with guitarists Rudy de Queljoe (ex-Dragonfly) and John Schuursma (ex-Rob Hoekes R&B Group), recording memorable tracks like 'Between Alpha And Omega,' 'Doomsday Train,' 'Mobilae' and the blisteringly powerful 'Virgin.' Dark Rose / Their 45s also includes previously unreleased demo-versions of 'Virgin,' 'Dark Rose' and the epic 'Sea Of Delight.' LP $35 SKU:14720

LONDON DRI - Western Skies LOS ANGELES PSYCH 1967-69 -Label:BREAKAWAY Limited to 100. Hand-made! This retrospective combines their lone single with nine unreleased gems. LP $25 SKU:16717

MOTIONS - Wasted Words,The Havoc 45S(60s Dutch)- Label:PSEUDONYM RECORDS (NETHERLANDS) When The Motions crashed into the Dutch charts at the beginning of 1965 with Its Gone, they opened the floodgates for a tidal wave of young Dutch bands. Few of them, though, could match the pure excitement etched into the grooves of The Motions 1965-66 singles, featuring the definitive lineup of singer Rudy Bennett, songwriter/guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen, bass player Henk Smitskamp and drummer Sieb Warner. That magnificent procession of songs is laid out for all to hear in dynamically remastered sound on Wasted Words: The HAVOC 45s. The raw, frenetic thrash of Its Gone and We Fell In Love, vibrant, mournful laments like Ive Got Misery, For Another Man and Ill Follow The Sun, the stark socially-conscious folk-rock of Wasted Words, the explosive freakbeat of Everything Thats Mine and the sophisticated pop balladry of My Love Is Growing - all written by master songsmith (and future Shocking Blue mastermind) Robbie van Leeuwen. The latter song so impressed co-producer Scott Walker that he recorded it with the Walker Brothers. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl, Wasted Words features a top quality 350 gram carton gatefold sleeve featuring rare photos and all of the original picture sleeve artwork. REMASTERED IN THE 24-BIT DOMAIN FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES LP $26 SKU:14504

RAMONES -OLD WALDORF,SAN FRANCISCO,JANUARY 1978 -Label:ECHOEs he Ramones' first three albums are indispensable artifacts of the late '70s punk explosion, with their venomous fusion of Alice Cooper, The Lemon Pipers, and any other adolescent obsessions and college preoccupations. Ultimately, like their early live shows, these early albums are exhilarating formal triumphs. Their appearance at The Old Waldorf on January 31, 1978, enforced this with an abundance of energy and good vibes. Sweating American culture from every pore in 26 songs delivered with breakneck ferocity. Quite simply, it was a furor that challenged the pomp of prog and rock, drawing on three albums with Rocket to Russia being the most recent. Their Waldorf appearance displays a formidable force of nature in action. Armed with guitars, drums and with the trademark "1,2,3,4" assault, the band rip through their 1978 set list, a near carbon copy of their more familiar January 7 NYC performance aired on the King Biscuit Flower Hour. Incidentally, Tommy Ramone would leave the band shortly after these shows to concentrate on producing, making way for ex-Voidoids drummer Marc Bell (aka Marky Ramone). Fortunately, the records remain, but importantly, so do a handful of live recordings that can at least allow an appreciation of an equally vital part of their legacy. Echoes proudly presents a rare opportunity to capture The Ramones at their explosive best and in their formative years when CBGB's was a minor backstreet haunt. Their appearance at The Old Waldorf, broadcast on KSAN-FM, is a testament to the energy and ferocity of the band as a live act. Complete broadcast on 180-gram vinyl in digitally remastered sound with background liners and rare photos. LP $16 SKU:9703

SERGUEI - Psicodélico 1966-1975 - Label:GROOVIE SERGUEI is quite possibly the best kept musical secret from Brazil's glorious 60's/70's scene. Sérgio Augusto Bustamante was a flight attendant. In the sky, above the clouds, he used to daydream about Elvis. One day, he came down from the heights, added a "u" to the Russian name Sergei, which he took out from a friend. With his colorful clothes, long hair, red contact lenses, and hippie flags of peace & love, the anti-commercial Serguei had a public image much bigger than the number of records he was able to produce. Serguei tried psychedelia, tropicalism, and even Brazilian folk music without settling down into any musical style. His short adventure with singer Janis Joplin (in the summer of 1970 in Rio) has always been the most prominent reason for Serguei's mention in music history; but it's the records he released between 1966 and 1970 that have caught the attention of collectors. "I've never been recognized, few people give me value," he told Pop magazine in April 1978. This is no longer true, thanks to this collection of rare singles. Serguei self-proclaimed himself as “psychedelic” long before anyone else. He sang his hallucinations, found someone from alpha centaur and went in search of peace, from sunrise to sunset. His music ranges from psychedelic to garage psych, fueled by fuzz guitar (a track on "Guitar Fuzz Bananas" bears witness to this), with arrangements that are typical of genius. LP $18 SKU:16099

TIN HOUSE- ST (70s powerhouse rock ) w liners, rare photos, insert -Label:LION Includes everything Tin House recorded for Epic, including two previously unreleased tracks and the elusive (and unique) single versions of 'I Want Your Body' and 'Be Good and Be Kind. Taken directly from 24-bit/96kHz master tape transfers. Four panel insert has liner notes by Doug Sheppard (Ugly Things)
Photos from the archive of drummer Mike Logan.Tin House were so good—their music was a hard-rocking onslaught of lust, chops and powerhouse riffs that gripped like an alligator bite—they were signed to Epic Records out of high school. They were respected by Leslie West and Johnny and Edgar Winter. Their album (released in 1971) was produced by Rick Derringer. But like other almost famous bands, Tin House fell away into unjust obscurity. Tin House's focus was on heavy rock like the sex-fueled opener, ‘I Want Your Body,' and standout track ‘Be Good and Be Kind,’ with a catchy up-and-down, down-and-up riff played adeptly by guitar prodigy Floyd Radford, and a driving monster beat laid down by drummer Mike Logan; the song tears in as a fast as a Florida hurricane and sweeps the listener up into its vortex for two-and-a-half minutes of energized bliss. Yet the album also showed diversity: Radford’s melancholy ballad ‘Tomorrow;’ the jivin’ honky tonk of ‘30 Weight Blues’ (a tribute to the band’s 1962 Ford Econoline van); ‘Lady of the Silent Opera,’ which featured orchestration by seasoned studio musicians from New York City’s Local 802 Union to underscore its positive message of “look to the heaven—smile to the blue sky.” Lean, fluid, tight, and the best hard rock album from the USA you probably never heard of (until now)! "In the twinkling universe of virtuoso electric guitarists that followed in the wake of the genre’s progenitor Jimi Hendrix, perhaps one of the most deserving of renewed recognition is Floyd Radford of the band Tin House, a little known three piece that signed briefly to CBS records in 1970 and released one highly prized album a year later. The overdriven, fluid guitar work—heavy on the wah-wah pedal—is brought to the fore by a beefy full production that lifts the band above the sludgy audio presentation that bedevilled many heavy rock albums of the era." —Richard Allen, Shindig! Magazine LP $26 SKU:16783

IT’S PSYCHEDELIC BABY-#1 w CD A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine!-Label:MERLINS NOSE RECORDS (GERMANY) 130 full-color pages, glossy sleeve, plus a bonus space rock/neo-psychedelia compilation CD! A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine! Read what Vernon Joynson has to say about it: The first Country Joe And The Fish album Electric Music for the Mind and Body is one of the very finest examples of psychedelia and when Klemen found it as a 12-year-old among a pile of his dad's records and played it, his life changed forever. His curiosity led him to research deeper and deeper into the whole '60s music scene. He started a blog where he discussed private pressings and over the next few years, with the help of a network of like-minded friends, the blog evolved into the fabulous online magazine that is now It's Psychedelic Baby!. The name is perhaps a little misleading because the magazine's scope is much wider than just psychedelia. Its scope encompasses prog-rock, jazz, blues, folk, punk, metal & avant-garde music. Indeed, Klemen is a huge folk and jazz fan. Above all, the web site has a special focus on obscure and rare music. At the last count this stunning site contained over 500 interviews with a very broad range of artists and people connected with the music business, as well as lots of reviews and articles. He has done so much original research, located so many forgotten artists and even helped some to find record labels. What you have in your hand is the first hard copy version of this magazine! This first edition is primarily dedicated to Texas psychedelia. The state has a very rich and diverse musical tradition, but in the '60s it produced countless tough garage-punk bands and some of the most demented acid-punk records to come out of the U.S. in this era, as well as some seminal hippie-rock bands. Many of these were drawn to the attention of wider audiences in the subsequent years by the pioneering works of David Shutt, whose Journey to Tyme was a brilliant interpretative discographical guide to Texas 1960s punk and psychedelia and by Doug Hanners' equally excellent magazine Not Fade Away, focusing on the Texas music scene in that era. It is largely due to them and other Texas collectors that many obscure Texas recordings of the mid to late '60s found their way onto the many various artists' compilations of '60s punk and psychedelia that emerged in subsequent years. Now, in this new hard copy magazine, Klemen, assisted by other music historians like Kevin Rathert, has traced and interviewed many more artists and the magazine contains features about Powell St. John, Zakary Thaks, The Moving Sidewalks, Lemon Fog, Golden Dawn, Homer, Corpus, and many more. Be sure to read the interview with Michael Jensen (who was a member of the 13th Floor Elevators in the '80s) and shares for the very first time many stories about Roky and different meanings of some of the band's songs. In keeping with the sheer scope of Klemen's antenna, this mag includes many other features, too. He has tracked down the Zambian band Witch and has a fascinating feature (probably the first in hard copy) about the whole '70s Zambian music scene. He's also found Vyto (from First Chips) and there are articles on the Mexican Kaleidoscope, Bodo Molitor, Anonymous, and reviews of new reissues and new psych releases. There is also a fascinating non-music-related feature about "music as medicine." Read on... I promise you will not be disappointed. CD features tracks by: White Hills, Uncle Acid & The Dead Beats, White Hills, Les Indiens, The Oscillation, Get Your Gun, Farflung, Strangers Family Band, Jacco Gardner, Earth Mk.II, Amen Dunes, Aalto, David Greenald.

"An exciting, terrific British Invasion-styled guitar pop album full of catchy, memorable hooks, displaying a tougher, 'rock' edge than most of its ilk and some excellent softer songs. Equally recommended to power pop and '60s rock fans." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives If you're continuously searching the margins for lost artifacts of the pop pantheon, you can find your daily dose in late period exponents of pure, lean, Beatlesque power pop band Promise. Originally issued in 1980 on the Boulder, Colorado, area band's own Cumulus label, their eponymous debut is filled with melodic, beatific blasts of pure pop, replete with ringing, jangly guitars and rollicking crunch. Co-led by singer-songwriters and guitarists Curt Mangan and Danny Mey -- with aid provided by the just-right rhythms of bassist Randy Jones and drummer Gary York -- the group created an album with precious little allying it to the punk-inspired power pop or prescient new wave of the time, instead choosing to hone in on a classicist pop sound highly indebted to those famous moptops from Liverpool. Abetted by the fact that some of the group's members had been playing together since their teenage combos of the mid '60s, the album carries an out-of-time flair across surging rockers and mournful balladry. Got Kinda Lost Records is ecstatic to give this benchmark of privately pressed power pop another chance to shine with this first ever reissue. Includes exhaustive liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things Magazine) culled from interviews with Mangan and Mey. RIYL: Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc. CD $18 SKU:16561

CALLAHAN, EDDIE - False Ego ( rare 1976 California private press gem w. heavy mini-LP style cover, Japanese woven inner sleeves, and a double-sided insert ) Ltd ed -Label:TIME LAG high quality reissue of very rare 1976 California private press gem, originally issued on the Ocean label. “First ever reissue, deluxe and legit, of this quite rare 1976 southern California private press gem. It's a strange, fantastical, and totally distinct album that will have you sucked in almost instantly. This one is extremely hard to pin down - think something like a loner powerpop rock opus, heavy on the psychedelic production values, studio dreamer vibes, and timeless hooks. The songs are unusual but infectious, the production is breezy and expansive but not polished, and the vocals are constantly morphing yet always effective. In fact, the hazy chameleon-like personality here might be one of the best things going for the album, as not only does Eddie seem to be channeling a handful of different vocalists, but the whole mood and sound shifts around unexpectedly as well. The questioning, self-reflective lyrics add yet another layer of mystique to the trip. Musically the mellowest points hover around gorgeous, airy, rural-tinged, floating psychedelia with beautifully layered acoustic & electric guitars, tinkling keys, and lush mellotron. When things pick up they're truly rocking, with tight punchy rhythms and Eddie firing off big chunky guitar riffs like he's playing to the packed stadium behind his third eye. All the studio tricks at hand are put to full use with sweet Leslie guitar effects, special tones, backwards solos, elaborate multi-tracked sound fields, and some of the most wonderfully bent synthesizer soloing ever laid to tape. The perfectly strange and beautiful cover art seals the deal. False Egos is mastered from the artist's well preserved and great sounding master tapes. LP $28 SKU:16512

CITY BLUES - Blues For Lawrence Street ( Ultra-rare private garage blues 67 )-Label:VOID RECORDS (USA Ultra-rare private garage blues LP from the Los Angeles area (released on Nouveau Records in 1967); reminds many of early Quicksilver Messenger Service, specifically the 1966 pre-Cipollina lineup as heard on the Groucho releases. Trebly guitars, wailing harmonica, etc. One of the rarest California private LPs with originals virtually non-existent and fetching large sums. Limited to 500 copies." As Bob Lescher recalled, "I got mad at Dick and threw a harmonica at him. My patience was pretty short in those days. Lucky that he ducked. It left a hole in the acoustics on the wall of the studio. The final track, 'Smokestack Lightning,' is about twelve minutes long with all sorts of noddling going on. It was our take on Butterfield's East-West." LP $19 SKU:16353

ROCKIN' HORSE - Yes It Is (power pop ) SAALE - Label:SING SING "Rockin' Horses' "Yes It Is" has been critically hailed as one of the true lost British power pop relics. When the late Greg Shaw (Bomp Records & Magazine) created his Voxx subsidiary, the first single he decided to reissue was Rockin' Horses' 1971 magnum opus single, "The Biggest Gossip in Town." Shaw declared that the single was the greatest power pop song of all time ? heady stuff. The power pop sounds of "Yes It Is" have been favorably compared to the best of The Beatles' "Let it Be" era and Badfinger's early 1970 efforts. As an homage, the band's name was drawn from The Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and the album title itself from The Beatles B-side of "Ticket to Ride." Rockin' Horse was formed in 1971 by lifelong best friends Jimmy Campbell (The Kirkbys/23rd Turnoff) and Billy Kinsley (The Merseybeats/The Merseys) after the end of their respective Liverpool bands had split. Joining the Liverpool core duo were hired studio guns: Bobby Falloon (guitar), Stan Gorman (drums) and Michael Snow (keyboards). Having been schooled in the very same musical influences as the Fab Four, the end result is eerily similar to the sound the Beatles were creating at the end of their career during 1968-1970. The album was not an attempt to "ape" The Beatles' sound, but more the end product of having grown up as contemporaries of The Beatles in Liverpool and listening to the same records and playing the same circuits . How could they not end up sounding similar? Locating a copy of the original album is close to impossible and very expensive. Now you can own one of the greatest power pop recordings of all time on vinyl with its original Hipgnosis sleeve design." LP $21 SKU:13792
