On Ormythology, Selke and bandmates spin a weird spell combining a deeply groovy brand of '60s psychedelia with, at least sometimes, a 70s songwriting sensibility. There are beautiful tangles of buzzing guitar solo, drums that sounds as if they're being played with sticks the size of tree branches, bubblegum -y vocals. There's even a sitar effect, winding along above a rumbling bass groove. This is space rock at its finest - unapologetically retro freakouts with swirling , fuzz-drowned guitars. The Seventh Ring Of Saturn crafts deep psych rock and pop grooves that could have easily been culled from a long-forgotten cache of outtakes from Lenny Kaye's 'Nuggets' compilation, swimming in tripped-out improvasations and a total freak-out sound. Sadly Angel Pavement broke up before theyd had a chance to record the work, which was duly left to gather dust. Forty years later, Alfies homemade recording of the proposed album finally gains a long-overdue release. Taken from the original mastertapes, and bolstered by a clutch of similarly unissued home demos from the same timeframe, The Wind In The Willows is now revealed as one of the great lost projects of the late 1960s, a thrilling psychedelic pop song-suite bursting with melodic invention, ambitious vocal arrangements and the boundless spirit of adventure that characterised the era. NERVEBREAKERS - We Want Everything ( 70s Texas punk) - Label:GET HIP Hailing from Dallas, the Nervebreakers first got together in 1973, but didn’t take off until the mid-’70s punk movement started to affect most larger urban areas of the US. Nervebreakers quickly rose to the top of the pack in Dallas releasing three singles which are now hard to find. This album was recorded in 1980 and was to have been their debut LP. RESONARS NONETHELESS BLUE (for fans of the Byrds, Love, the Easybeats, Moby Grape and the Hollies) Label:GET HIP On Nonetheless Blue, Arizona’s The Resonars continue to mine the field of top-shelf psychedelic pop. This, their fourth album, is probably their strongest, as the lead vocals of Matt Rendon are more self-assured than ever.

The songs are eminently catchy, and many of them could have been found on a series like Highs In the Mid ’60s without anybody finding out that they didn’t belong. Songs like “Nonetheless Blue” and “Sinking Is Slow” would have made perfect ’60s garage records, the kind that hit No. 1 in the band’s small-town charts but never got beyond that (a sad story of lots of classic records of that day).

Fans of The Grip Weeds will especially love “Your Concern,” “No Problem At All,” and “As a Matter of Fact,” as they feature that band’s signature thick harmonies and West Coast psychedelic vibe. In a likeminded but lighter vein is “If Darkness Comes Too Fast,” with an easy vibe not unlike that of the iconic pop/psych band, The Millennium CD $10 SKU:24736

SHAHRAM - ST (Kinks style Iranian pop master) Label:PHARAWAY SOUNDS You know how record nerds are. They’ll gladly tell you that a dawdling Moldovian choir of 70 year old grandmothers is the next brick in your psychfunksplosion journey. But Shahram Shabpareh is the real thing. Colorful arrangements of blurting horns, evil bass grooves, cheesy organs & thick strata of overlapping percussion instruments going off like microwave popcorn. As the leader of an Iranian 60s garage band, the Rebels, and later a 70s solo singer, Shabpareh was never happy just tossing a few moves from Abba in front of whatever was on the local charts already. He wrote & recorded hard rock & funky piano riffs that were built bulldozer tough & would’ve stuck out in an American trailer park or a London pub just as easily as they did in Tehran.Not that he wasn’t afraid to put someone else’s idea to good use, as he certainly makes superb use of the Kinks’ chords from ‘You Really Got Me’. It’s more that Shahram’s rock cojones have caused him to make blistering music again & again over the years, with little regard for where it comes from. SHAKERS,LOS Los Ineditas + La Vigencia 25 Originals-Unreleased Tracks: Uruguayan 70s Rock-Label:CIRCOLO DEL DIS Two compilations of unreleased and rare Los Shakers material brought together in one place on this disc, amking this pretty essential. The Shakers burst on the scene in Uruguay with a look and sound that got them attention as South America's answer to the Beatles. They soon got a contract with Odeon in Argentina; Odeon brought them to Buenos Aires, where they had incredible success with a single featuring two of their own compositions, 'Break it all' and 'More'. This made the difference. The sound was Beatles-like, but not an ordinary or rough copy, instead a copy of superior quality, superior than many of the foreign singers of that era. Added to this, was the quality of their own compositions, their own songs were of a very high quality. CD $14 SKU:20380

SHAKERS,LOS -And Shakers For You- TWo Originals + 7 BONUS TRACKS 68/71 Uruguayan Rock/-Label:CIRCOLO DEL DIS Los Shakers were a popular rock band in 1960s, and a significant part of the Uruguayan Invasion in Latin America. The band was formed in 1963 in Montevideo, Uruguay. They were modeled after The Beatles, and even adopted similar haircuts and clothing. The band sang many songs in English, despite their location, and gained their greatest popularity in Argentina, where they were huge stars. Los Shakers were: Hugo Fattoruso and his brother Osvaldo—who later were in Opa—Roberto "Pelín” Capobianco, and Carlos"Caio" Vila. This disc includes both the debut album (1965) and the second album (1966) by the band. SHOCK ST (obscure 70s garage psych) - Label:GUERSSEN (Spain) previously-unreleased -a Major discovery in the Spanish Psych-Prog collector scene: a previously unreleased album from 1970 by this obscure Spanish garage-psych band . Until now, Shock were a total mystery. They only released one 45 back at the time (the killer acid-fuzz punker "No se puede ser Superman") and nothing was known about the band...until we tracked them down. We discovered that prior to their 45 release, they recorded a whole album which was never released. Shock's music is underground garage-psychedelia with crude acid-fuzz guitar, effects, English vocals...think of Agua de Regaliz, early Pan & Regaliz, Cerebrum or even obscure Brazilian bands such as Tobruk but with a more primitive sound. The album features ten songs including the original versions of the two tracks later re-recorded for their only 45: "No se puede ser Superman" (titled here "I'm being mad", it's a different and superior English sung version) and "I want to laugh" (a longer version than the one included on the 45). Remastered from the original 2-track tape (which is unfortunately not in perfect condition, but more than good enough). It was Gillan who said of them: “Not many bands really excite me. But this one’s so raw and completely unpretentious. They make the biggest, bloodiest noise you can imagine, tempered with moments of extreme emotion.” And, of course, he’s right—the music is a menacing combination of over-the-top vocals and screaming lead guitars that could easily pass for something from the early British heavy metal scene—or something from the emotional hard core scene of the mid-1990's ('Primitive Man').
