SPACEMEN 3-Live at the New Morning, Geneva, Switzerland, 18.05.1989-Label:SPACE AGE (UK) First CD edition of Live at the New Morning, Geneva, Switzerland, 18.05.1989 by Spacemen 3, originally released in 2014 as a limited-edition vinyl-only release on Swiss label Mental Groove Records. Fold-out card wallet featuring liner notes by Sonic Boom and previously unseen photographs. Digitally remastered by John A. Rivers at Woodbine Street studio in 2015. Recorded in Geneva, Switzerland, during Spacemen 3's 1989 European tour, while the band was in sublime form, this release further cements their reputation as one of the most influential and seminal bands of the space rock and drone rock worlds. As Sonic Boom recalls, "I seem to remember this show more distinctly than most, and always did. Spacemen 3 was a band not overly loved in their day. It was tough, or at least uneasy. Musically people thought we were some sort of twisted joke. Which in some ways we were. You needed to be bloody-minded to make this music at that time. The set presented here, is as it was . . . except the show was twice this length. We tuned and smoked for almost as long as we played. And then our disenfranchise moment, installed to filter the wheat from the chaff in our audiences -- the sprawling 'Suicide' wheeled out here in a long mischievous version. We slipped away mid-song amongst much fog and dry ice. With taped down keys and feeding back guitars propped against our speaker cabs keeping the song pulsating and screaming. Disappearing back down to the already too familiar dressing room. We rolled large smokes and cracked fresh drinks. And finally after an extended 'break' re-appeared on stage. Not to wind down as normal at that juncture, but to re-fire up the piece for a further onslaught. Extending the maelstrom as bloody mindedly as we could. We always 'sensed' when we were unwanted . . . which was most of the time we left the cosy confines of our white 'sprinter' van. Never get out of the van . . . fucking tigers! But then again . . . maybe . . . just maybe . . . and it's only a maybe . . . maybe l don't remember a thing." CD $18 SKU:17457

SPRIGUNS -Revel, Weird and Wild (1976 Brit folkrock)-Label:ESOTERIC "So, you love English folk/rock, but you’ve never heard of Spriguns? Don’t feel bad... Many people outside of England don’t know this group, or their singer, Mandy Morton, even though in her homeland she is considered on a par with such well-known English female folk singers as Sandy Denny (Fairport Convention), and Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span). Formed in 1972, the band was originally known as Spriguns of Tolgus and were formed by Mike and Mandy Morton. The band’s debut album was produced by Tim Hart of Steeleye Span and brought them to the attention of Decca Records for whom the album "Revel Weird and Wild” was recorded in 1976. By this time the band were known as Spriguns and had become more rock influenced. The album "Time Will Pass” followed in 1977 and was perhaps the band’s finest hour, with orchestral arrangements by Robert Kirby, famed for his work with Nick Drake. Perhaps not quite as rare as Mellow Candle’s sole Decca LP; even so, both Spriguns albums are in the same league musically as that of their Irish label-mates. Both of these Esoteric Recordings reissues have been newly remastered from the original Decca master tapes and include a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork. Two superb and often overlooked major label folk rock classics, now available at an affordable price. Morton’s voice is lovely and captivating, the songs lilting and Celtic-ish—if this is a sound you like, these albums are for you!" CD $10 SKU:19079
SPROTON LAYER -With Magnetic Fields Disrupted ( like Syd Barrett fronting Cream)-Label:New Alliance Roger Miller's (Mission of Burma and instrumental group Birdsongs of the Mesozoic) first band, a psychedelic rock band from 1969 to 1970 with his brothers Laurence and Benjamin (both members of Destroy All Monsters). Roger played bass, sang, and wrote most of the music; Ben Miller played searing psychedelic guitar and sang; Larry Miller played drums in a highly unorthodox non-backbeat fashion; Harold Kirchen (brother of Commander Cody guitarist, Bill Kirchen) played trumpet. Twelve strong, intense space music episodes of destruction and rebirth, with a strong Syd Barret-era Pink Floyd and early Soft Machine feel. Unique and euphoric music, which ranges from progressive-acid-punk to heavy psychedelia with catchy chord changes and Spaghetti Western Ennio Morricone flashes, with epic results. "...A valuable document of an amazing band that sounded like Syd Barrett fronting Cream" —Michael Azerrad. Anyone interested in the underground intersection of early prog and heavy post-psych should check this out immediately. CD $10 SKU:20011
SSM (Szymanski, Shettler, Morris)ST (Dan of the Black Keys on Guitar) -Label:ALIVE Debut album by this Detroit rock'n'roll trio formed by ex-members of the Hentchmen, Sights and Cyril Lords. "Awash with bursts of energy and moves into industrial punk territory with krautrock influences." - The Guardian CD $5 SKU:4735
SSM (Szymanski, Shettler, Morris) Break Your Arm For Evolution with Dan of the Black KEys on Guitar !) digipack Label:ALIVE The follow-up to their acclaimed 2006 self-titled debut. "Break Your Arm For Evolution" finds John Szymanski (vox, keyboards), Dave Shettler (drums, programming), and Marty Morris (vox, guitar) further expanding their sonic horizons and fearlessly morphing genres. SSM likes to flirt and "Break Your Arm For Evolution" is not merely a title but an earnest philosophy : the endlessly catchy Daft Punk-meets-The Seeds of "Déjà Vu," the psychedelic kraut rock'n'roll of "Regenerate Your Face" transforms itself into the synth pop of "Let's Make a Baby", which metamorphoses into the indie alternative dance "Start Dancing" and quickly burst into the punk rock "Emotional Tourist", all the while challenging the traditional conventions of pop songwriting. "It's common knowledge that you can't teach an old garage band new tricks. Or, at least I thought it was common knowledge that garage bands forever stayed in the garage, until I put on this new track by SSM, "Start Dancing." On this number from their second album, SSM have updated a steadfastly rigid genre with a synthetic, robot groove that bridges the divide between Detroit's storied histories of techno and garage." - I Rock Cleveland CD $5 SKU:7234
ST. MIKAEL - MIND OF FIRE (PSYCH) -Label:SUBLIMINAL SOUND Incredibly enough, but very naturally, after 11-years silence heres a new album by this mysterious and legendary Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist. S.T. Mikael spearheaded the DIY psychedelic rock/folk movement of the late 1980s-mid-90s, with a collection of albums that now fetches up and over $1000 on Ebay. During his long absence S.T. Mikael grew more secretive and reclusive, but all the while he was still writing music. Now that hes finally back heres at last a chance for the world to join in to his psychedelic world again. The music, stretching out in many different musical directions, has been done freely and spontaneously in an extremely relaxed and happy environment, where Mikael joined forces with Dungens Reine Fiske and Fredrik Bjorling whos musical expertise now also grace the grooves. These otherworldly acid tripper recordings now exists in the real world and S.T. Mikael, proves, once again, to be a gifted songwriter and an unconventional performer with a very personal ear for acoustics and an emotional honesty seldom seen these days. Folk rocky melodic elements flow with waves of heavy fuzzphase leads, weird detached haunted vocal echoes over the band and the whole thing seems to teeter on the brink of psychedelic oblivion. Not revival either but purely of the now. You do get the feeing that Mikael actually lives the lifestyle rather than just emulating it. His soaring vocals, surreal lyrics, fragile, folky melodies, heavy fuzz riffs, mind bending soul funk and penchant for the spiritual and mystical make this altogether a fascinating voyage that is so mind twisting, soul swirling, upper psychedelic that your third eye takes you on a joyride thru an altered state! This album makes your brain start thinking in those pebble splash pond mind circular expanding waveforms that people on this vibe await the returning ship their roots sent out to bring back the password to tomorrow. A homage to LSD which helped him make the transformation possible. This is part one of a suite of two separate albums. The CD also contains 9 previously unreleased vintage recordings and an unique spoken introductions by Mikael. CD $8 SKU:7169

ST. JOHN’S GREEN- ST (L.A. 60s psych GREEK pressing) w liners -Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM Strange Kim Fowley produced psychedelic opus—'canyon music' as this Los Angeles area group might have described it; strange songs about the fires of hell and spacemen from Venus with some anti 'flower power' songs and stoned sounding jams that show why they were touted by Fowley as the next 'in-thing'—they weren't, of course, but a strong album all the same CD $10 SKU:18973
ST. THOMAS PEPPER SMELTER - Soul & Pepper mini slv replica (Peruvian 60s psych freakbeat )- Label:LION PRODUCTIONS (USA) & REPSYCHLED RECORDS (Peru) The first official reissue of this much-bootlegged classic South American psychedelic freakbeat album, recorded in 1969 by Peruvian band The (St. Thomas) Pepper Smelter. Perhaps the story of the band is not well known, but their achievements were great—and international: editions of their sole LP were produced in Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador, and 45rpm singles were published in Mexico and Greece. St. Thomas Pepper Smelter was formed by Gerardo Manuel Rojas on vocals and tambourine, Beto Tataje on rhythm guitar and lead guitar, Juan Carlos Barreda on bass and vocals, Carlos Manuel Barreda on drums and backing vocals (all from the famous group Los Shains), and Freddy Macedo on keyboards. Their first single was a cover of ‘Purple Haze’ b/w one of their own compositions, ‘A New Summer.’ The band then began to record their only LP. That album contains twelve tracks—six written by the band, and the other half cover versions. The band's music could be described as freak beat; in many ways, it is a preview of the garage /surf style of Los Shain's, heading towards the heavy psychedelic rock of Gerardo Manuel & El Humo. At the time, St. Thomas Pepper Smelter simply called it “underground music.” Gerardo’s voice is soft in the band’s own songs, and aggressive on the cover tunes; his guitar style oozes fuzz. The foundation of bass and drums by the brothers Barreda is very powerful and strong; and the songs benefit from the layers of keyboard played by Freddy Macedo. This fully licensed, hand-numbered, limited edition CD release comes in a mini-LP sleeve replica of the original album art; it also comes with a replica of an original poster; a replica of an original color photo of the band. More importantly, it includes three previously unreleased bonus tracks exclusive to this edition. Carefully remastered from the original master tapes and released in this limited edition of 400 copies, available exclusively worldwide from Lion Productions. CD $12 SKU:14479

STRAWBS -Deep Cuts (1976 Dylanesque) LAST COPIES-Label:WITCHWOOD MEDIA ncludes the UK smash single I Only Want My Love to Grow In You and contains some of the strongest songs the band ever recorded. This popular album from 1976 has been re-mastered from the original tapes and includes a previously unreleased bonus track. Tony Mitchell, reviewing for Sounds in their 25 September 1976 issue: "Strawbs have a distinctive style, accreditable to founder member Dave Cousins... Cousins' presence is as powerful as it has ever been; he dominates both the writing ... and the singing, drawing on the other members of the band for back up vocals only. ... Deep Cuts is characterised by a sense of drama; many of the songs have strong story lines... with a moralistic or allegorical content reminiscent of contemporary folk music, or perhaps more accurately of the mid-to-late Sixties era when songsmiths like Dylan and Baez dominated... This is none too surprising since the roots of the original Strawbs lay very much in that era and that kind of music. But this is definitely rock music... undoubtedly enhanced by the guitar work of that other old Strawbs Dave Lambert and the rhythmic patterns generated by Chas Cronk and percussionist Rod Coombes. Indeed the choice of ''I Only Want My Love To Grow' as first track... seems to say 'Here we are, we're a rock band' but the following track 'Turn Me Round' has Cousins in more classical form with Dylanesque vocals and slurred phrasing, saying, if you like, 'but we're still the Strawbs'" All in all, concludes Mitchell, "an album which will not disappoint Strawbs fans and probably get them a good few more. It has power and it has magic. CD $8 SKU:19076

ROCK EN AREQUIPA- ST (Rare singles from 60s Peru )Label:RE-PSYCHLED Twenty-one tracks (72 minutes), the best of the rare singles recorded by bands like Free Love System, Los Texao, Los Incógnitos, Madera Fresca, and Opus who thrived in Arequipa, Peru during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Arequipa? yes, Arequipa, the second most populous city in Peru, up in the Andes mountains at an altitude of 2,380 meters (7,800 feet) above sea level; Arequipa, nicknamed La Ciudad Blanca (The White City), nestled beneath the snow-capped volcano El Misti. Arequipa. Get your Peruvian beat fix with groovy tracks from Los Incógnitos and Los Texao. Want some face-melting psychedelia instead? check out Los Texao’s ‘Stone’ or their fuzz-guitar laced instrumental ‘Swarlb’—both a musical style called "Niebla" (Fog), because of the effect produced by the band’s rotor amps and reverb and echo effects. (Los Texao were the first group in the province to record using FuzzTone effects, using powerful Dynacord amps imported from Germany). Prefer a more laid-back style? then you’ll love Free Love System. Looking for some heavy grooves? ‘La pelea del gobernador’ (Los Texao) or ‘Un paseo por el recuerdo’ (Free Love System) might do it for you. Sixteen-page booklet has mini-biographies of all five bands in Spanish and English; all tracks are from the master tapes, with the exception of Madera Fresca’s freak out ‘Any Time’—a classic at parties—and their acoustic version of ‘La lenta que apura,’ both rescued from the obscurity of a rare cassette. The first regional rock compilation from Peru's rich and mostly undiscovered musical history, but certainly not the last! COMP CD $15 SKU:20202

SPEAKEASY- ST (great British R&B style) - Label:PAISLEY ARCHIVE UK If ever the term ‘Super Group’ applied to a band on the Mod scene, it applies to Speakeasy. Featuring Brett “Buddy” Ascott (The Chords/The Rage/Pope), Simon Stebbing (Purple Hearts/RT3), Mark le Gallez (The Risk/Thee Jenerators), Fay Hallam (Makin Time/Prime Movers/Fay Hallam Trinity) and the late, great, Mike Evans (The Action/Mighty Baby), the band came together as the ‘House Band’ for the Mod Aid 20 single in January 2005. They subsequently recorded a glorious EP at Toe Rag for Biff Bang Pow Records later that same year featuring one song each from Simon, Mark & Fay (included on this CD). Sadly Mike is no longer with us, but with Mic Stonier taking up bass duties (and Fay busy on other projects) the nucleus reassembled to record a heartfelt cover of The Actions’ “Shadows and Reflections” in tribute to Mike, and carried on to record enough material for Speakeasy to release this full length CD on the Paisley Archive imprint of Detour Records. So what is it like? There’s a real British R&B feel on some of the tracks (‘Let’s Roll’) and some great musicianship too (‘Your Precious Ways’), with a number of songs that could be contenders for A-sides of singles (‘The Blues Have Got Me’, ‘Red Wine Song’, ‘Soul Searching’, ‘Love and Understanding’) and Fay’s Hammond masterpiece, ‘Seeds’. A great album of quality songs. CD $10 SKU:15752

STEVE AND THE BOARD - Complete - with 21 page booklet Label:OFF THE HIP The Australian band Steve & the Board made some British Invasion-style records in the mid-'60s, getting some success in Australia with the singles "The Giggle Eyed Goo" and "I Call My Woman Hinges 'Cause She's Something to Adore." All the members were in their late teens when they recorded for the Spin label, and their progress was no doubt eased by having a lead singer, Steve Kipner, whose dad Nat Kipner was the head of Spin Records. The group wasn't a mere manufactured boy band, though, as in fact much of their material was original, contributed by several members (though most often guitarist Carl Keats). In their blend of British R&B and pop/rock influences, their recordings were fairly solid straight-ahead rock that criss-crossed attributes of the Beatles, the Byrds, Merseybeat, and raunchier groups like the Pretty Things. They issued just one album, though, and a couple of non-LP singles CD $10 SKU:17912
STONE OAK COSMONAUT- THE LAST MACHINE (2CD)heavy stoner rock)
Label:SELF RELEASE Stone Oak Cosmonaut's 2018 double album contains great heavy stoner rock songs and long epic journeys way deep into the multiverse. The band sounds fresh and dynamic and very heavy. Spacey sounds galore. We guess they grew up on a mixture of Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Motörhead and epic Rush, with some Kyuss and Monomyth thrown in. Fiery drums, monster bass, heavy guitar riffs and freaky old school guitar storytelling in a cosmic movie setting. Star Trek on acid meets Ennio Morricone on a motorbike. CD $15 SKU:19620
STONEBIRDS -Time(French heavy rock)-Label:ACID BUZZ Hailing from central Britanny (France), STONEBIRDS came out in 2008 as a quintet, inspired by both surrounding desolated landscapes and bands like Queens Of The Stone Age, Kyuss, The Melvins and Alice In Chains. The 2018 album "Time" confirms the band's unique style matured on "Into The Fog" and its ability to write deeply emotional and complex songs. Once again recorded at Kerwax, this record is darker and more contrasted with heavier metal parts and lighter atmospheric moments. STONEBIRDS asserts itself as a singular voice in heavy music landscape. CD $15 SKU:20177
STONEGROUND -Live in Haight-Ashbury 1971-Label:KEYHOLE Capturing the band at the height of their powers, it's presented here together with background notes and images. A quintessential artifact of the Californian hippie scene.

STORM-ST (1974 crown jewel of Spanish hard rockLabel:WAH WAH SPAIN Their debut album, originally released on BASF in 1974, is one of the Crown jewels of Spanish hard rock, and changes hands for a small fortune among collectors all over the world. It has also a deep classic prog sound root, which reaches the top on 'Un Señor Llamado Fernández De Córdoba'. Now it gets the deserved well-done CD treatment at last, with great remastered sound, nice booklet AND YES!!!! up to 30 minutes of images with a concert of the group and an interview, all circa 1974-1975!!!!
