CHAINO - Eye of the Spectre (50s African percussion genius )-Label:DIONYSUS n the '50s Kirby Allen recorded a stack of albums and 45s with African percussion genius CHAINO. All this stuff is now very collectable amongst Incredibly Strange Music-lovers. An unbelievably eye-catching cover (especially when you know it was originally released in 1957) houses Chaino's most savage percussive outing. "Eye" contains a generous serving of sensual rhythms and gut wrenching screams as recorded at the world famous Gold Star Studios in the late 1950s, with producer Kirby Allan doing his best to make a seduction album that would have couples in a humping frenzy by the end of the first side! CIRCUS- 1973 (hard hitting Wisconsin R&R blues)-Label:GEAR FAB Another great undiscovered band from Wisconsin. This hard hitting Rock and Roll and Blues band played with Tayles, Yancy Derringer, SOUP, and Tongue and toured the mid-west from 1969-1976 to crowds of thousands. -Label:GEAR FAB n 1998, Gearfab released a limited 500 vinyl pressing of this great early '90s Pacific Northwest Psychedelic band. They came to the attention of the label through a tape sent to them and, immediately upon listening to it, Gearfab was in awe of how much their music sounded like it came straight from the 1960s: twangy guitars with lots of reverb and wah-wah, haunting farfisa organ, pulsating bass riffs, great harmonics, and fantastic drums!! COFRADIA DE LA FLOR SOLAR- ST (1971 S American psych)-Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) Named after a student artistic community 50 km south of Buenos Aires, 'The Brotherhood Of The Solar Flower' was originally formed in 1968 by three musically inclined participants. After a compilation appearance and RCA/Vik 7" their only LP, produced by Billy Bond, was finally released in 1971 on the Microfon label. With fourth member Kubero Diaz on lead guitar, the group created a slightly-stoned mix of acoustic/electric fuzz guitars and phased vocals, and the album went on to become one of the most highly-regarded Argentinian rock LP's, alongside releases by Almendra, Vox Dei, etc.; a catchy rock record with psychedelic flavor that has some great moments, as any album combining the talents of Kubero Diaz and the great Billy Bond! COOLEY MUNSON- In Debt (70s So Cal. hippie psych ) -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS Bill Cooley and Alan Munson were two friends in Santa Barbara, California, living their early 20s writing folk-rock songs for their pleasure. That was 1972, and they decided to put these songs into the studio, self-produce the album and press a tiny quantity of 500 pieces hoping it could help getting a contract with a major company. This never happened, as you would have guessed, and sure this fact helped making their sole album, In Debt, a major collectable item in the folk-rock and psychedelic rock listeners and collectors. Today, original copies of this record fetch quite interesting sums when changing hands in record fairs or internet auctions. Being a private pressing, you can easily imagine it's not a big production, but no care. This album has the right feel and you won't need anything else to make it one of your faves. All tracks are original compositions, and the style is very personal. It's folk-rock, but many tracks are quite psychedelic too, in their own way. But don't look close for influences, they will not come to mind that easily. Bill and Alan had their own psychedelic folk-rock style, and the raw, sometimes amateurish feel that these recordings have give the album the final distinctive touch. Never reissued before in any format, now here we come with a splendid reissue, with the collaboration of the guys. Remastered sound taken from the master tapes, CD version comes with booklet and outer slimcase. Alan Munson kept going the folk-rock way and released two solo albums during the '70s too, which we are also re-releasing along with In Debt. CD $14 SKU:25186

COOPER,JOHN & PHILIPPA,-The Cooperville Times (1969 like early Jefferson Airplane)-Label:FRESH Spooky psychedelic folk rock (1969) featuring the unmistakable guitar sounds of Julian Laxton (Freedom’s Children). Unquestionably one of the rarest South African albums ever: folk tinged psychedelia, featuring the whimsical vocals of John & Philipa Cooper with guitar by Julian Laxton, which has been hailed by collectors worldwide as comparable to the legendary Mellow Candle or early Jefferson Airplane. Brother/sister John & Philipa Cooper went to Britain shortly after the album was made, and there the story ends. SALE! -Label: AUDIO ARCHIVES On CD-format, here's an ultra rare album recorded in 1973 and originally pressed on the Deroy customs label in a tiny quantity and issued in a bizarre, oversized custom-made sleeve. The album contains 11 home-grown songs featuring strong lead and backing vocals atop acoustic and electric guitars alongside piano and harp. Some songs, f.i. the head-weaving 'Smashed-out Carpet' have a prominent eastern, tripped-out psych feel throughout, whilst others straddle jug-band and folk areas. COYNE, KEVIN- Sugar Candy TAxi (rare U.S. release) -Label:RUF Kevin Coyne is a strange one. As influenced by the rough-and-tumble sounds of Mississippi blues as by his job as a counselor to London drug addicts, he arrived in the '70s with a cawing birdcall voice and a collection of songs about madness, guilt, and despair. CRYSTAL SYPHON- FAMILY EVIL/ ELEPHANT BALL (SF 60s)Label:GEAR FAB Comes in an old-style “tip-on” jacket with a digital download. Plying their trade in the fertile San Francisco scene of the late '60s, Crystal Syphon's name was only known to aficionados through viewing copies of old SF gig posters and through the index of bands at the back of Ralph Gleason's book on the rise of Jefferson Airplane. Then both their studio and live 1967-1969 archival recordings were discovered that replaced the imagination with true grooves in 2012 and 2015 with the release of 2 LPs on Roaratorio Records. Trying to find comparison with other Bay area bands from that era has proven a bit fruitless as they don't specifically evoke any of the heavy hitters of the era. They have a bit of a dreamy, stoned vibe with some great harmonies and some have compared their style to Quicksilver Messenger Service (John Cipollina was their idol!!) as well as H.P. Lovecraft. As with so many bands of the era, the draft, time and declining fortunes signaled the end of the band. There is some great guitar work alongside the Farfisa organ in the extended jams, and fans of the west-coast sound should delight in these recordings. CD $14 SKU:23863

CRYSTALLINE - AXE MUSIC UK psych holy grail. -booklet with unseen pictures and liner notes by Paul Cross -Label:GUERSSEN First reissued by Guerssen in 2012 as LP with CD and out of print for many years, here's a new, improved CD repress of this UK psych holy grail. Axe (known also as Axe Music and finally Crystalline by the time they recorded their rare acetate) were an obscure British psych band led by acid-rock guitar player extraordinaire Tony Barford and graced by Vivienne Jones' ethereal vocals. The band hailed from Northampton (home also of their mates Dark of 'Dark Round The Edges' fame). In 1970, they recorded a demo album of which only 12 copies were pressed as a demo acetate. Here's a straight reissue of this legendary artifact, as the previous "reissue" on the Kissing Spell label from 1993 and credited to Axe was altered without the band consent and included newly edited tracks, artificial echo/phasing effects, altered song titles... Here you'll find the acetate recording on its pure form: 100% unadulterated heavy psych and acid-rock sounds full of raw, fuzzed-out guitars and dreamy female vocals. Four impressive original songs plus a long, psyched to the max cover of Love's 'A House Is Not A Motel' which has to be heard to be believed.
Carefully remastered from an original acetate copy in 24-bit. Unfortunately, no masters survived and no 100% clean copies are known to exist of the original acetates, but you'll get the best result for the possibilities. In fact they've managed to improve the sound a bit over the first edition from 2012. Comes with new artwork (the original acetate came in blank sleeve), booklet with unseen pictures and liner notes by Paul Cross (Sweet Floral Albion). CD $19 SKU:25796

THRILLS- N.A.F.I.T.C -- Original Boston Punk 1977-1981 (Blondie style pop/punk)-CDLabel:DIONYSUS The Thrills only released one single during their lifetime, 1979's "Hey! They've managed to conjure an entire album out of their legacy on this CD, though, by adding six songs recorded on a Boston radio station in October 1978, as well as live tracks from 1978 and 1981. YANCY DERRINGER -Openers (1974 ACID ROCK w Weedburner and more) Label:GEAR FAB Yancy Derringer was a four-piece band from Wisconsin that recorded an album titled Openers in 1976. With an original pressing of only 1000 copies, the album reflected the band's live act and creative talents in seven original songs. The sound of Yancy Derringer was similar to that of some of the more hard driven southern U.S. rock acts of the day such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Ozark Mountain Daredevils and many more. After selling out the initial thousand pressings very quickly, the band ordered a second pressing, which got caught up management hassles and was delayed. This caused fans to lose interest in the band; by 1976, the group's momentum had passed Yancy Derringer broke up, leaving the world with another limited pressing album. In the late '90s, Gear Fab acquired the rights to the band's original masters and released that long lost album for fans of '70s rock to enjoy. BEYOND THE CALICO WALL - VA ( 60s psych ) LAST COPIES, less than 10 left Label:VOXX Will not be repressed! The good people who put together this compilation set out to accomplish no less daunting a task than collecting the most bizarre and extreme underground psychedelic music recorded in the 1960's, and, for the most part, the choices seem to be right on the money. The collection starts off with "The Trip" by Park Avenue Playground, a song that bursts out of the gate with an explosion of fuzz guitar, organ, and mad siren-like oscillating effects, coming at you from all directions, seemingly. Next up is "Suzie's gone" by Afterglow, definitely one of the weirdest singles ever. The singer moans "so...my...world...is...messed...up!" in the most detached voice possible over a staccato organ and drum part, leading to a guitar solo that soon collapses into no recognizable conventional song structure. No less amazing is "Mt. Olympus" by The Flower Power, which starts off as an innocuous and somewhat introspective sounding piece until a wild heavily chorused guitar break, which only slightly warns you of the totally anarchic feedback and free-form noise ending -- which goes on for over a minute in a 3:40 single! Then you get a bizarre sci-fi/horror tale in "The pulse" by Burritt Bradley, and an incredible reading of The Electric Prunes' "I had too much to dream last night" by Rasputin and the Mad Monks, with weird proto-techno sound effects, backwards vocals, and production effects making the backing track fade in and out, creating a disturbing sensory assault. Other highlights include "An experiment in terror" by The Greek Fountains, which is a strange polyrhythmic instrumental, and "Up in my mind" by The Spontaneous Generation, which surely has to rank as one of the most aggressive 60's psych records ever made, with waves of vibrato guitar and insistent wah wah riffing. Also worthwhile is "The electronic insides and metal complexion that make up Herr Dr. Krieg," by The Riders of the Mark, which musically isn't quite as strange as its title, but comes close! The weirdness factor decreases somewhat as the c.d. progresses, and a sloppy but straightforward cover of "In a gadda da vida" by Six Feet Under makes for a pretty uninteresting closer, but the good material here makes this an essential purchase. Foremost among the artists compiled here is progressive rock band Blonde On Blonde, represented by tracks from both of their Ember albums. Fantastic Voyage has salvaged two tracks from Blue Beard s album. An early songwriting/production project for Bob Welch, who next surfaced in Fleetwood Mac, the album was only released in Italy, but the single ‘Sly Willy’ was more widely available and is highly prized by collectors of funky rock. Tyrannosaurus Rex-style acoustic hippy duo Knocker Jungle and progressive folk group 9.30 Fly each managed one now highly collectable long player for the label. The finished product is “Nine Lives and Forty Fives”, a 11-song variety pack that displays the band’s skills in the studio, and compiles some of their rarest and rawest recordings, including “Rock and Roll is Dead,” available for the first time in US. RAYNE - ST (1966 GROOVY GARAGE PSYCH POP!)Label:VOID Previously undiscovered 1966-67 groovy, organ-drenched, harmony vocal-enriched garage pop/psych recordings with a west coast psych sound, from the Rayne, a Yonkers, NY band. Some trippy originals (‘But Come Tomorrow’ in particular, stands out), plus covers of (oddly) Cashman & Pistilli’s ’Sunday Will Never Be the Same,’ ‘Do You Believe in Magic,’ and a pulsating 'Somebody to Love.’ Tracks come from recordings which resulted in a pair of acetate demos by The Rayne, featuring Paul Martin, Lisa Pereira (the future Lisa Sarna), Barry Sarna, Len Epand, and Hank Mishkoff. A little insight into the Rayne from Mishkoff: "Barry Sarna, The Rayne's keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist, posted a classified ad in the Yonkers Herald Statesman on May 20, 1967 to try to induce somebody to hire us. Barry portrays us as 'an established rock and roll band' (sounds impressive!), mentions that we've played at The Jaguar (whatever that was), and points out that we've actually appeared on the same stage as The Chain Reaction — which was Steven Tyler's band way back in high school.” It must have worked, as they ended up playing at the Bitter End in February 1967. The songwriting is pretty interesting and thoughtful, and as private press LPs go, this is distinctive and memorable enough to explain why psych dealers jumped on its bandwagon. A lot of the lyrics are pretty stoned. There is a lot going on here, with enough weird hooks and surprising moments to give any listener a fair amount of kicks. I like side two, especially the closing 'Visions of Obscurity V,' better than side one. RIALZU -U Rigiru-1978 HIDDEN GEM OF FRENCH PROG ROCK)Label:PQR-Disques Recorded and originally released in 1978, Rialzu’s first and only album is rightfully considered by savvy collectors as a hidden gem from the versatile French progressive rock scene. Firmly rooted in Magma-esque (“Köhntarkösz" period) dark matter, it deviates from Zeuhl towards a stultifying eeriness that is so bewilderingly fresh — and in a sense makes this a proto goth-rock masterpiece. Spearheaded by a mesmerizing interplay between baritone and soprano vocals, an assemblage of sinister instrumental twists and turns constantly undermines and postpones the possibility of catharsis. In between an ode to spectrality and vainly ruminating invocations, U Rigiru might as well have been composed by a group of Gregorian singers who are fans of Jacula. This is a truly eclectic masterpiece to be cherished by Zeuhl fans, as well as by Goth aficionados and Cold Meat Industry diehard fans. U Rigiru in Corsican is a circular endeavor, a self-referential leap from and into an existential angst-ridden enclave, enshrouded in a celestial abyss. RICHARD TWICE -ST (1968 US pop-rock)Label:COSMIC ROCK Fuzz guitars, organ, celestial vocal harmonies, a single effort and then... eternity (or obscurity if you look at the other side of the coin). In 1968 leader Richard Atkins -Richard Manning his artistic partner and co-writer, hence the name- was building toward success, his musical adventures and philosophy not that far from the likes of The Byrds or the more eccentric Simon & Garfunkel. He'd won a contract with Mercury Records, and recorded with the Wrecking Crew members, a group of Los Angeles session musicians famous for their work with the Beach Boys, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and hundreds more. But stage fright triggered a disastrous make-or-break performance in a small Hollywood nightclub, and everything abruptly fell apart. Atkins gave up music in the prime, and for 50 years he refused even to listen to a radio, so painful were his memories of a career he was convinced could have been. Featuring top-notch backing from musicians such as Drake Levin (Paul Revere & the Raiders), Larry Knechtel (Bread), Mark Tulin (the Electric Prunes) and Rusty Young (Poco), the album -nonetheless- it's bound to appeal to all fans of high-quality early '70s US pop-rock.
