IT’S PSYCHEDELIC BABY-#1 w CD A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine!-Label:MERLINS NOSE RECORDS (GERMANY) 130 full-color pages, glossy sleeve, plus a bonus space rock/neo-psychedelia compilation CD! A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine! Read what Vernon Joynson has to say about it: The first Country Joe And The Fish album Electric Music for the Mind and Body is one of the very finest examples of psychedelia and when Klemen found it as a 12-year-old among a pile of his dad's records and played it, his life changed forever. His curiosity led him to research deeper and deeper into the whole '60s music scene. He started a blog where he discussed private pressings and over the next few years, with the help of a network of like-minded friends, the blog evolved into the fabulous online magazine that is now It's Psychedelic Baby!. The name is perhaps a little misleading because the magazine's scope is much wider than just psychedelia. Its scope encompasses prog-rock, jazz, blues, folk, punk, metal & avant-garde music. Indeed, Klemen is a huge folk and jazz fan. Above all, the web site has a special focus on obscure and rare music. At the last count this stunning site contained over 500 interviews with a very broad range of artists and people connected with the music business, as well as lots of reviews and articles. He has done so much original research, located so many forgotten artists and even helped some to find record labels. What you have in your hand is the first hard copy version of this magazine! This first edition is primarily dedicated to Texas psychedelia. The state has a very rich and diverse musical tradition, but in the '60s it produced countless tough garage-punk bands and some of the most demented acid-punk records to come out of the U.S. in this era, as well as some seminal hippie-rock bands. Many of these were drawn to the attention of wider audiences in the subsequent years by the pioneering works of David Shutt, whose Journey to Tyme was a brilliant interpretative discographical guide to Texas 1960s punk and psychedelia and by Doug Hanners' equally excellent magazine Not Fade Away, focusing on the Texas music scene in that era. It is largely due to them and other Texas collectors that many obscure Texas recordings of the mid to late '60s found their way onto the many various artists' compilations of '60s punk and psychedelia that emerged in subsequent years. Now, in this new hard copy magazine, Klemen, assisted by other music historians like Kevin Rathert, has traced and interviewed many more artists and the magazine contains features about Powell St. John, Zakary Thaks, The Moving Sidewalks, Lemon Fog, Golden Dawn, Homer, Corpus, and many more. Be sure to read the interview with Michael Jensen (who was a member of the 13th Floor Elevators in the '80s) and shares for the very first time many stories about Roky and different meanings of some of the band's songs. In keeping with the sheer scope of Klemen's antenna, this mag includes many other features, too. He has tracked down the Zambian band Witch and has a fascinating feature (probably the first in hard copy) about the whole '70s Zambian music scene. He's also found Vyto (from First Chips) and there are articles on the Mexican Kaleidoscope, Bodo Molitor, Anonymous, and reviews of new reissues and new psych releases. There is also a fascinating non-music-related feature about "music as medicine." Read on... I promise you will not be disappointed. CD features tracks by: White Hills, Uncle Acid & The Dead Beats, White Hills, Les Indiens, The Oscillation, Get Your Gun, Farflung, Strangers Family Band, Jacco Gardner, Earth Mk.II, Amen Dunes, Aalto, David Greenald. ARCO IRIS- Los Elementales (Argentine 67-70 rock)-Label:Serie Collectors From 1967 to the present day, the musical group Arco Iris has made history in Argentine rock. Founded by Gustavo Santaolalla, Guillermo Bordarampé and Ara Tokatlián, the trio included different drummers in its line-up and performed a style of rock music heavily influenced by Argentine folklore; as a result, they were perhaps the most praised band of Argentine rock during the 1970s. A forgotten jewel indeed, excavated by musical archeologists. This reissue has two bonus tracks.” CD $16 SKU:20329
BUBBLE PUPPY - Gathering of Promises (60s TEXAS HEAVY PSYCH PUNK) - Label:COLLECTABLES Formed in San Antonio in 1967, the Bubble Puppy's first 45 waxing, the brilliant Hendrix-inspired 'Hot Smoke & Sassafras', combined hard rock with fresh vocal harmonies and reached #14 in the U.S. charts in March 1969. The resultant follow-up, 'A Gathering Of Promises', featured more of the same raw, garage-psych sound and was equally strong. Somewhat removed from the deep acid psych of the label-mates' 13th FloorElevator's 'Easter Everywhere' or The Golden Dawn's 'Power Plant IA albums', it is highly enjoyable album and stands as one of the label's most refined rock efforts. CD $6 SKU:9792
GOOD DOG BANNED - ST (1971 ultra-rare w. former Sons Of Champlin member) 3 only Label:GEAR FAB From 1971, this ultra-rare LP featured former Sons Of Champlin member Tim Cain. With a very distinctive Grateful Dead-Quicksilver sound, GDB were one of the rarest bands to come out of the bay area in the early seventies. Right off the Master Tapes with photos and the complete story of this elusive band!! CD $10 SKU:20310
HUINCA-S/T + LITTO NEBBIA (1972 rare melodic Argentine prog/psych) Label:Melopea Discos Two albums from the fertile musical mind of Little Nebbia (former leader of Argentine beat rockers Los Gatos); Huinca recorded one album for RCA in 1972, a rare melodic prog/psych one-off that features more of Nebbia’s electric guitar work than any other record of his; the Little Nebbia album is his third solo record (1972), a highly regarded album demonstrating Nebbia’s interest in combining Argentine folklore elements (plenty of acoustic guitar) with progressive-tinged musical explorations CD $16 SKU:20334
KARMA - ST (70s Brazilian prog folk) Label:Sunny Pierrot A band that was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro in 1972 from their performance in the "Festival de la canción" (Song Festival) with the song "Depois do porão". Karma was a guitar trio that played an elaborate rock style with folk and progressive leanings. The members were Jorge Amiden (former Terço member), Luíz Mendez Júnior(former Os Nômades) and Alencar Contant(Allen Terra). A peculiar characteristic of the band was the use of the "Tritarra" (a 3-handle guitar) by Jorge Amiden. They recorded an historical LP in 1972, which didn´t get much local repercussion but today is acknowledged as one of Brazilian rock gems. Since 1973, the band periodically changed its line-up until they disbanded definitively in late 1976. In those years, Gastão Lamounier (vocals), Paulinho Soledade (acoustic guitar), Antônio Cláudio (acoustic guitar), Rick (guitar, banjo), Chico Julien (bass), Áureo (drums) and Danilo Caymmi(flute) were members of Karma. This LP features the song "Tributo ao sorriso" (A tribute to smile), which Jorge Amiden wrote with Sergio Hinds when he was a memmber of "O Terço". It should also be noted that "O Terço" recorded a different version and took part in an international festival performing "Tributo ao sorriso", and they achieved the third position. We can consider Karma's sound as "progressive folk" and we are able to find in their music the typical roots of Brazilian rural popular musicCD $14 SKU:20335

MAGIC LANTERNS - Shame Shame 1969 w Albert Hammond & Black Sabbath' lead vocalist Ozzy Osborne.!) -Label:COLLECTABLES The main claim to fame of the Lanterns, besides the hit 1969 single 'Shame Shame,' was the inclusion of future stars, Albert Hammond & Black Sabbath' lead vocalist Ozzy Osborne. Over the course of the band's career between 1968-1971 the Magic Lanterns released three albums in their native UK with only one being released in North America (on the Atlantic label). This collection contains highlights from all three albums including the hit 'Shame Shame' from the album of the same name & the only album to contain Ozzy as a band member. MONTESANO -El Pasillo (1982 Argentine prog) -Label:RECORD RUNNER It was in the early eighties, when ex-Crucis keyboardist Gustavo Montesano ended his participation in "Merlin" (a band founded with Alejandro De Michele, and with whom he recorded a disc), and decided to create a new project, which was to combine traditional music and a taste for symphonic progressive rock. The result was the band Montesano, with his brother Marcelo on keyboards, Fernando Ortega of Marbella on bass, Marina Olmi on vocals, and Richard Giles on drums. Their sole album, “El Pasillo,” was released early in 1982. A refined progressive rock, full of nuances, with the music based upon carefully developed, delicate melodies. This mixing of Latin sophistication and elegance evokes Italians groups such as Premiata Forneria Marconi, Celeste, Quella Vecchia Loccanda with superb aerial guitar parts ala Santana and delicate keyboards lines. The CD includes two unreleased tracks from Crucis. An album that deserves to be rediscovered and appreciated to understand a little more of one of the great artists of progressive rock from Argentina. CD $16 SKU:20341
O BANDO - ST (!969 Brazilian super group) Label:Discos Mariposa “Reissue of the sole album (1969) from this Brazilian rock “super-group” formed in São Paulo in the end of the 1960’s. O Bando’s music blended MPB, regional music and Tropicalistic “psicodelia”—this engaging combination no doubt thanks to Rogério Duprat, who provides arrangements (along with Damiano Cozzela and Júlio Medaglia). It’s a bizarre record, which starts off with a blast of rampaging brass before searing fuzz guitar and disturbing astral keyboard sound effects kick in; the end result sounds like an insane hellfire version of soundtrack/library music of the period. The rest of the album is quirky in the best of all possible ways: some definitive Tropicalia moments, including a cover version of Toquinho e Jorge Ben’s “Que Maravilha,” funky break intros to many of the songs, and nice harmonies too, when required. Although they used single names in O Bando, the singer “Marisa” was Marisa Fossa (she later recorded more material with Rogerio Duprat), Paulino was Paul de Castro who also played in Os Mutantes and other Brazilian rock legends, and “Dudu” was famous Brazilian drummer Dudu Portes, who has backed Elis Regina, Milton Nascimento, and Gal Costa, among others. Booklet includes a nice essay on (and discography for) Rogério Duprat. CD $10 SKU:20342
OS SAMBEATLES- (MANFREDO FEST) S/T (rare 1966 take on BEATLES songs!) -Label:Braz-Bossa-Roots Reissue of rare 1966 album with a bossa nova take on songs by the Beatles, all served up with plenty of great keyboard work from the legendary Manfredo Fest (well know for his combo sides of the 60s); although this album is an obscure effort by Fest, it’s in a similar vein to his better-known albums: all instrumental, strongly jazz-based, with piano or organ as the main solo instrument, soaring over the top of some tight, crackling rhythms! The tunes are all played with inventive touches that really take them from their roots as rock songs, and open them up as groovers filled with keyboard improvisation. CD $16 SKU:20344
RED KRAYOLA - God Bless the--Label:COLLECTIBLES Along with the Elevators, The Red Crayola were the mainstays of the International Artists label, and are recognised in Psychedelic circles as producing some of the strangest music ever (combining elements of avant-garde and garage with wild, experimental freak-outs and chilling stripped down songs which sounded unlike anything from the 1960s). CD $8 SKU:20346
SEASONS & LOS WALKERS- Liverpool at Buenos Aires (1966 rarest of Argentine rock) Label:Circolo Del Disco "The Seasons" arrived in 1965, when they recorded a single for the Microfon label. Then in 1966 they recorded an LP with their own compositions, sung in English. The founder members of The Seasons were Carlos Mellino (later in Alma y Vida) and Alejandro Medina (from Manal). The band’s sound was very much influenced by the three biggest bands in South America—Los Shakers, Los Mockers, and Los Walkers—in other words, Seasons had a real 1960’s South American beat band sound. This production includes the band’s only single as a bonus, and includes extended text about that era. Collectors from around the globe search for the original single and LP by Los Seasons. In the "Record Collectors Dreams 1001" book, the Seasons LP is included among the rarest of Argentine rock. Never before on CD. CD $16 SKU:20347

VERA SIENRA-Nuestra soledad” (1969) + “Vera(1972) Label:LION It was—and is—almost impossible to categorize Vera Sienra’s musical style, but we’ll try: wistful songs with the world-weariness of Fado, the gravel throated delivery of Marlene Dietrich, and the pulsating sadness of the bossa nova. This Lion Productions release comes with a 28-page booklet which contains background on the remarkable poetess/artist that is Vera, plus lyrics in English and in the original Spanish, historical background on the Uruguayan scene, photos, and a brief overview of the legendary Sondor label. I WANNA COME BACK FROM THE WORLD OF LSD- VA ( 60s Beat/New Mexico/Texas ) -LAST COPIESLabel:COLLECTABLES Albuquerque's Lance Records was a short-lived (1966-1968) imprint run by Dick Stewart, a former member of several local beat groups, and Nelson Martinez, later a celebrated local news anchor. AEROBLUS - ST (1977 Brazil heavy rock/proto metal) Label:HRC By rights, the band should be called Aeroblues, but the band's name was deliberately misspelled, to give it a 'Rioplatense' touch, by this heavy rock/proto metal band formed in 1977 by Argentine guitarist Norberto "Pappo" Napolitano in Brazil with excellent Brazilian drummer, Júnior; and bassist Alejandro Medina (ex-member of Billy Bond y La Pesada and Manal. Stylistically, dare one say 'samey'—Heavy Blues and/or Proto Metal with not too much variation. But still, it is truly great, and the band has a power that unavoidably moves you, if you can tell a good from a mediocre band in this genre. In case you are wondering, Aeroblus belongs on the list of the good ones. The Aeroblus album shows-off groove and sophistication at the same time; note the strength in the Alejandro Medina's voice, which is quite spectacular. Pappo's voice lacks the same grit and stamina, yet on the other hand he was a fine composer and a fantastic guitarist; his lyrics are obscure and semi-philosophical at times, which suits the apocalyptic sound CD $16 SKU:20213
ARCO IRIS- Cronologias 1969-1971 (Argentine rock)-Label:AROMA Rock group from the late 1960s until the late 1970s in Argentina, influential in Argentine rock history. While tagged as an 'acoustic' Argentine rock band in the beginning, Arco Iris were pioneers (with Chilean band Los Jaivas), infusing rock with regional folk music, as well as one of the first bands that projected their beliefs through their music and lifestyle (in their case around the art of yoga). The band's origins are traced to the late 1960s, when Gustavo Santaolalla, Ara Tokatlián, and Guillermo Bodarampé recorded a three-song demo tape, and met producer Ricardo Kleinman; Kleinman agreed to sign the group with the condition that they sing in Spanish. Arco Iris" first released two singles: "Lo veo en tus ojos" and "Canción para una mujer" (no relation with the Vox Dei song with the same name). Months later, they released a second disappointing single and met former model Danais Wynnycka (a.k.a. Dana), who became their "spiritual guide", and began to live communally with her. Their next single, "Blues de Dana" (obviously dedicated to Wynnicka), reflected changes in the music as well. The single won the Mar del Plata Beat Music Festival. On the back of this major exposure coup for the band, Arco Iris released what basically amounted to two full-length albums in a short time: their self-titled debut album (Arco Iris; 1969), and Blues de Dana in 1970, a compilation of all pre-1969 singles and both for RCA. Both albums' sound owed mostly to pop sensibilities inherited from "música beat", the prevalent subgenre of Argentine rock at the time. Horacio Gianello replaced Alberto Cascino at the drums, and in 1971 Arco Iris began releasing a series of singles. Eventually the band began working on their second album, which would be released in 1972 but now under the Music Hall Label. However, RCA also came out with a compilation of B-sides from the band, including some in the English language, creating some confusion even to this day about the order of the various releases. DANIELS, ELLIE - Both Sides of the Coin (teenage folk private press album from 1971) 3 ONLY! Label:TIME LAG Deluxe cd version of this reissue of totally unknown New England teenage folk private press album from 1971. Originally released by the artist herself as a demo-only, blank cover edition of 100 copies—she was just out of high school and hoping somebody might pay attention, but the LP slipped though the cracks, the chapter closed, and life moved forward on a different course. But the album stands as a true female loner folk gem, of which there aren't many at all: just Ellie's humbly intimate vocals and her harp-like self taught finger-picked guitar playing, plus some lovely pastoral flute by a friend on a handful of tracks. The sounds are straight from the tuned-in melancholy teenage mind, reeling from the mind expansion of the 60s, but also the excesses—the aching innocence of youth tempered by a biting contempt for all things false. Deeply reflective, poetic and searching lyrics of love / nature / peace playing out in real time against stark reality / longing / loss, and balanced at the very edge of the void. In the liner notes Ellie mentions only practicing under a blanket, and there's a up-close, lo-fi, almost voyeuristic realism / fragility here that's quite special. A complex and personal trip that takes some time and attention to fully unfold. Once it does, it will be no surprise that Ellie went on to build geodesic domes and become a professional midwife, as that same unique spirit is already deeply embedded here. A really wonderful album we're happy to help finally reach some receptive ears. The original had no cover art, so we've kept the packaging suitably stark: packaged in a metallic silver offset printed deep blue art paper cover, with paste-on photo art and booklet insert containing more photos, Ellie's original notes from last years vinyl reissue, as well as updated and expanded notes. Edition of 500 copies CD $12 SKU:20301

MCKINLEY, WILSON- Message Brought To Us – Anthology (XTian psych ) Label:TANIGNAK (USA) The only legitimate Wilson McKinley release, now available to all! With beginnings firmly in the secular realm and a strong following in the Northwest, the band signed to Alshire Records (home of 101 Strings) and recorded one LP (Honky Tonk Women) under the label's "acid-rock" moniker, The California Poppy Pickers. With the proceeds from the album sessions the band self-released a 7" EP in 1970 and soon met street minister Carl Parks, giving up the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and effectively ending the first incarnation of the group. The minister encouraged the remaining bandmembers to pick up their instruments again to create some music for a street meeting, and the first "Jesus Rock" group was born. This 21-track compilation includes selections from all three of their original LP's (On Stage, Spirit Of Elijah and Heaven's Gonna Be A Blast), their first cassette (Country In The Sky) and one unreleased track from 1973. With the exception of the On Stage material, all tracks are sourced from the original tape reels, which were subject to excessive reverb or careless mastering at the time of original LP manufacture.
