Four lovely re-tellings of classic songs from the sixties. In 1971 they released their only album, on the Crescent Street label. Hard rock with bluesy overtones, heavy guitar playing, punkish vocals, and swirling Hammond organ. Bongzilla is back with a full length album, 16 years since their last record. These "Pioneers of Weed Metal" would like to present 'Weedsconsin' to the universe. An album written by the three long standing original members of Bongzilla - Muleboy (bass, vocals), Spanky (guitar), and Magma (drums). Recorded and mixed by the late John Hopkins at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rock Island, Illinois in October 2020. These six tracks will blow your mind! In a single instant you are contaminated by the classic weed-infected sounds the band is known for, while also finding new elements mixed into the bowl. In the unique piece that is 'Weedsconsin', Bongzilla delivers heavy doses of crushing stoner doom and psychedelic space rock that sets it apart from earlier material. This record travels down a path of heavy riffs, mind-expanding jams, sonic tones, and stomping beats in the band's first release as a thunderous three piece, with Muleboy moving from guitar to bass. Approaching these songs as a three piece has created more space musically and allowed the band to showcase their musicianship in a different way. It results in a sound that is very heavy, along the lines of 'Gateway' tone-wise, but sonically more clear. ECSTATIC VISION-FOR THE MASSES(Detroit rock grooves, acid freak-outs)-Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS After bursting onto the scene with their 2015 tribal-psychedelic LP 'Sonic Praise', touring the USA with Yob and Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, crushing Roadburn, then quickly releasing a for-heads-only, noisy, psychedelic-garage record to weed out the weak ('Raw Rock Fury'), Ecstatic Vision have pulled themselves out of the muck to deliver their finest album to date. Recorded in Philadelphia at Retro City Studios with Joe Boldizar and mixed/mastered by Tim Green (Earthless, The Melvins) at Louder Studios in Grass Valley, CA, Ecstatic Vision's recent fuzzed-out sound has been sculpted it into a HI/FI psychedelic wonderland. This album is the closest the band has gotten to achieving the energy of their untouchable live shows on tape. EV took a simpler approach on the art this time, using the Spanish dream-team of Edko Fuzz and Bangalore Studios. 'For The Masses' blends tripped-out synth, semi-catatonic desert driving tunes, Afro-tribal Funkadelic vibes, troglodyte-Detroit rock grooves, acid freak-outs, ethereal psychedelic hymns and mind-altering krautrock into Ecstatic Vision's outsider take on modern music. It's like if Tangerine Dream jammed with Lemmy and the Asheton Brothers and decided to play some world music and free jazz in 1971. CD $12 SKU:21680

FAPARDOKLY- ST (60s pop, jangly folk-rock, psych)-Label:GEAR FAB Fapardokly is probably regarded as the most important release in Merrell Fankhausers long career, and an absolute collectors item. The band recorded about 30 tracks in a small studio in Palmdale, California, from 1965 to 1967, when the owner of the studio decided to release an album with some of these tracks. With such different recording dates, you find here different sounds..organ-ized 60s pop, jangly folk-rock, psychedelia. CD $10 SKU:18663

FLUX -ST (1973 monsterpiece King Crimson style)Label:SEELIE COURT 380 copy limited edition first pressings in mini card gatefold sleeves, from Glass Masters (not cdrs) Searing art rock monsterpiece dominated by a relentlessly coruscating lead guitar sonic attack as if played by a demonically possessed John McLaughlin. Flux is ex-Babe Ruth, ex-Motiffe, with lead guitar by John Grimaldi before he joined Argent and worked on their prog masterpiece 'Circus'. This album is taken from a mono mastertape recorded on a BBC Mobile Unit at a live gig in 1973. A shocked Record Mirror journalist witnessed the concert and described it in a published Record Mirror review as 'a new form of music'. Sound quality is great and this is a band in top form playing exactly what they want, in a zone a bit like King Crimson's 'Red', but with insane guitar leads that bludgeon the listener to death. The vocalist later joined Italian prog rockers Flea On The Honey. Play this with a hangover and you will die in screaming agony. One very short track, and four very long ones. The gig ended with an IRA bomb scare. Yes really. CD $19 SKU:24804

GILMORE, JOHN- LAID BARE -Label:DIONYSUS Laid Bare is the perfect soundtrack to Los Angeles' seamy underside, combining critically-acclaimed true crime author John Gilmore's riveting spoken word accounts about Hollywood’s famous and doomed icons (Black Dahlia, James Dean, Janis Joplin, Lenny Bruce, Manson, and more) with Skip Heller’s hip breezy jazz score. HELLMET-Judgement Day !! (legendary 1970 proto metal)Label:SEELIE COURT Thought to be lost forever, Hellmet's legendary 1970 LP is the proto-metal find of the century. Long rumoured to exist amongst hardcore prog collectors, it used to be considered as the missing VO5 Vertigo cata!ogue number. In 1970, two acetates were cut at Oak studios (a 12” and a 7”) and then promptly lost, and those who knew of its rumoured existence decided it was mere myth or permanently lost or destroyed. But in 2021, this doom-laden metal psych masterpiece finally emerges from the Stygian depths of prog legend. Hellmet's sole lp is the ultimate incarnation of Leviathan and the Mike Stuart Span, and on this record, they hit a peak — almost like a raw undergound Led Zep 1 with elements of Cream. Hellmet's sound is characterised by a howling lead guitar tonally similar to High Tide but played in a heavy blues psych style; at times Steve Day appears to be wrestling a demonically possessed lead into submission. Three tracks are classic heavy prog proto-metal, then ‘Trust' gets into 'Dazed and Confused’ territory with its violent tale of resisting torture under the Inquisition; the dark epic 'Judgement Day' closes side one, a tale of heroin addiction and facing one's maker in an inevitable slide towards alienation and death. The LP benefits from repeat playing: it is heavy, but also deep, and has a vibe that combines anger with melancholia. A significant and historic find, if you ache for more true vintage Heavy Prog.

HONEYRIDER- SUNSHINE SKYWAY (infectious pop gems) -Label:DIONYSUS Florida's Honeyrider are one of the more widely buzzed about bands in the indie underground. Their first two releases on legendary UK label Damaged Goods Records—All Systems Go! (1998) and Splashdown (2000)—are infectious pop gems that won the group praise in publications such as the NME and Rolling Stone. The group has just completed their third album, Sunshine Skyway, which is their best effort yet. Like its predecessors, the new record is full of buzzin' Jesus and Mary Chain/Primitives guitar sounds, Beach Boys-styled melodies, and soulful psychedelic pop, but the songwriting here is even more potent, the lyrics displaying a personal side that vocalist/guitarist Gary Strickland has only hinted at previously. JAMES, BARNEY-& WARHORSE-- KONEG, THE SECOND COMING-Label:SEELIE COURT Recorded in 1975 with support from his entire band Warhorse, this heavy progressive concept solo-album by drummer Barney James wasn't released back in the day. (Only one original acetate copy exists!) Now this complex work is finally unleashed upon the world! During his career Barney also was the drummer for progressive cult bands Gracious and Legend. KARAKORUM-PRISON BITTERNESS (1970 prog stoner rock)Label:SEELIE COURT 380 copy limited edition first pressings in mini card gatefold sleeves, from Glass Masters (not cdrs)The only surviving 1969 studio demos of this important underground band. Keith Moon raved about them, they were known for their live reputation. Karakorums sonic inner space inevitably conjures up images of heavy cannabis and marijuana usage. The band lock into darkly introverted grooves, with complex patterns, eastern influences, and left field lyricism and vocal, heavy guitar led tracks and the use of wah-wah. They were ultimately uncategorisable, poetic, and this album needs multiple plays to connect to. CD $20 SKU:24927

LUTHER -N- THE B.B.B.'S-BEST OF VOL #2, (NY-based power-pop)Label:JARGON The B.B.B.'s (Bothered By Boredom) is a Rochester, NY-based power-pop band with singer/guitarist Luther Holtzman being the only constant in an ever-shifting line-up. Although the group formed in the early '80s at the University of Rochester and remained an on-and-off presence on the local scene thereafter, it wasn't until 1998 that the B.B.B.'s first proper album was released. This is their second one, containing great tracks that combine the style of Chuck Berry with British Invasion-affected rock'n'roll. CD $17 SKU:22673

Twisted King Crimson-esque progressive rock with dark jazz elements, a monstrously rare private pressing from 1973 originally on the Deroy imprint. Only 99x copies were pressed, with just a handful having hand drawn covers. Record deals were offered but musical differences split the band, with Flux emerging jn the aftermath, before ace guitarist Grimaldi joined Argent to help craft their masterpiece 'Circus’. Valued at £2,000, this is the first fully authorised legal edition with all members consent — and full history written by the band. CD $19 SKU:24825

MOUNT CARMEL - GET PURE Digipack (for Radio Moscow fans! ) - Label:ALIVE Amid the current industry of cool, Mount Carmel’s lack of gimmick is a welcome anachronism. Mount Carmel reeks of surging guitar riffs and thunderous backbeats. STONE GARDEN -ST (US. 60s HEAVY PSYCH) Label:GEAR FAB For the late 60’s, there wasn’t a much heavier record thanthis amazing slab of US Heavy Psychedelic/Acid Rock!Stone Garden hailed from a state one could assume was among the last touched by the chemical stimulant-inspired revolution in rock music in the '60s. But you wouldn't be able to tell that from Stone Garden. Cobbled together from live and studio recordings made between 1969 and 1971, the reissue collects virtually every available note by the pack of Idaho teens, including both sides of their lone, extremely rare 45 ("Oceans Inside Me"/"Stop My Thinking"). Aside from that single, all the tracks remained unreleased until appearing as a superbly packaged 1998 Rockadelic LP, reproduced in its entirety on this Gear Fab CD. So is it worth all the archival fuss? Mostly, yes, it really is. Stone Garden is an always blistering and often thrilling racket that splits the difference between the plundering depths of hard rock and the mind-excursion highs of psychedelia (or, more precisely, acid rock), carving out a nifty Western patch of its own. A heady trick for a group of boys from the potato state in the year of Woodstock, and, if dated in minor ways, still body-rattling music decades after the fact. There is some dense riffage (the re-recorded version of "Oceans," "It's a Beautiful Day," an awesome "Woodstick") that comes as close to proto-heavy metal shredding as anything else recorded in or around 1969 (that includes Steppenwolf, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, and Blue Cheer), and the band had both an affinity and knack for scintillating, dual-guitar electric blues ("Stop My Thinking"), although the album's sole outright misstep, "SF Policeman Blues," apes early Grateful Dead a little too closely. But there is plenty of consciousness-expanding, detail-intriguing, and ominous melodic shifts, nifty but queasy coats of echo, Zappa-esque avant-garde effects ("Bastard"), and surprisingly mature and hip lyrics -- even if the performances are not exactly nuanced. Subtle Stone Garden was not. But the music can cut you off at the knees and knock the wind out of you, which is pretty impressive stuff. CD $10 SKU:18837

COTTON, Josie -Everything is Oh Yeah (80s style pop from former BOMP artist) -SAALE Label:KITTEN ROBOT In 1986, things weren't great for Josie Cotton's career. She'd made a bit of a splash with the single "Johnny, Are You Queer?" and 1982's album Convertible Music, a fun collection of girl group-inspired power pop, but the follow-up, 1984's From the Hip, sank without a trace and she was dropped by her label. She and long-time producer Larson Paine weren't ready to give up, though, and they started recording new tracks as demos and/or a third album for a new label. The sessions attracted musicians like Hunt Sales, Billy Bremner of Rockpile, and Brian Setzer; however, before she could finish the record, Cotton briefly walked away from the music industry and the tapes were left to gather dust.
Fast-forward a few decades, and thanks to a request from a music publisher who was looking for unreleased tracks to send to Stranger Things for possible inclusion in their third season, Cotton hunted down the tapes and rescued them from obscurity. After a little bit of baking and digital magic, Everything Is Oh Yeah was finally released in 2019, and fans of Cotton and the weirdness of the '80s are in for a treat. It's a wonderful time capsule of the era that mashes up genres, delivers surprises, and positions Cotton as a weirder version of Cyndi Lauper with a voice big and versatile enough to match. The songs are weird and very hooky, bopping from space age rockabilly that sounds like Sigue Sigue Sputnik fronted by Wanda Jackson ("Money") to Bangles-y jangle pop ("Boulevard"), epic '80s ballads ("Far Away from the Crowd"), strutting Brill Building pop ("Hand Over Your Heart"), and goofy electro-pop covers (the Beatles' "The Night Before" and Cat Stevens' "Here Comes My Baby"), with lots of the kind of snappy power pop Cotton broke in with (the title track, "If You Really Want Me To"). The unfinished nature of the songs means that some of them are a little sparse, some of them are overloaded with gimmicky '80s sounds, and everything is just a little tiny and weird sounding. While it's possible that a bigger production and more studio polish could have led to some hits -- there are certainly plenty of songs just as hooky and fun as anything on the radio at the time -- it's more likely that if it had been released in 1986, it would still be a lost treasure in 2019. And it truly is a rough gem of an album. Cotton's voice is a thing of wonder that's alternately heartbreakingly sincere and gum-snappingly playful, the songs are endlessly frothy and fun, and the overall joyous spirit can't be ruined by less than perfect production. CREEPY JOHN THOMAS-ST (1969 psych blues GEM) SAALE! Label:LONGHAIR This is one of Long Hair's favorite psych-blues albums and every track is a forgotten gem of past generation. It starts with hard blues rock tune, 'Gut Runs Great Stone' with great rhythm that just kicks you at the very beginning, making you headbang and simultaneously tap the rhythm with your hand. Next tune is '(Do I Figure) In Your Life,' a chilled psych classic rock tune. Melody is the real thing here but highlight of this song is the guitar solo, it's one of those Hendrix's solo, with so much emotions that after few listening it became one of your favorite solos. 'You've Gotta Hide' is a bluesy tune with solid elements of pure classic rock, chorus is catchy and it's a good fitter on first side of album. 'One Way Track Blues' has an awesome blues riff, lead and acoustic guitar and filled with riffing on electric guitar. 'Trippin' Like A Dog' is another Muddy Waters-stylish blues tune but with psychedelic guitar wailing through whole song. 'Ride A Rainbow' is a psychedelic-trip themed tune, made by hippies for hippies - oriented on peace, unity and love. Thomas' guitar talent is obvious - with his psych-bluesy guitar sound he's painting every song with colors of vivid picture. Next tune, 'Green Eyed Lady,' instantly reminded one on the bass groove on 'The Other Side Of This Life' by Jefferson Airplane. 'Sun And Woman' is a winner with its cheery and catchy guitar. The pumping rhythm of 'Lay It On Me' will really satisfy you and 'Bring Back The Love' will wake the oriental side in you with its bongos and sitar. The album comes with comprehensive insert sheet with bandstory, different covers and photos. Recommended! This is the first official re-release on vinyl under licensed courtesy of Cherry Red Records Ltd, UK, remastered from a master copy. In 1967 Australian John Thomas moved to Düsseldorf, where his girlfriend lived, got a record deal with EMI and recorded one of the era's great lost albums: Rust's 'Come With Me,' (Long Hair LHC281). John meanwhile living in Cologne met up with sound engineer Conny Plank. They recorded with bassist and guitarist Andy 'Shotgun' Marx and drummer Helmut Pohl, who subsequently joined Gomorrha (both albums on CD and vinyl on Long Hair). Originally released at the end of 1969 The Melody Maker was impressed by the album: "Gutsy virile singing and fine guitar from the amazingly-named Mr Thomas supported by bass and drums. The combination of Steve Evans’ sonorous voice and haunting Irish pipes convert the songs into a beautiful mystical experience. It might compare to the stunning ‘Wild and Beautiful’ by Silly Wizard, with that same captivating majesty of form. Very rare, the late great record dealer and collector Walter Geertsen, one of the founding dealers who helped shape the progressive rock market, considered this LP as one of his personal favourites, alongside COB "Moyshe Mc Stiff" and John St Field “Control." Very different LPs, but all with moments of aching, dark melancholia. So to describe Crooked Oak as ‘acid folk’ would be misleading, instead it is a deep, profound and beautiful work of art, lifted by superb vocals and wrapped in a sense of mystery. The band channel the music, tradition, heritage, and the magic that still courses through Sainted Albion’s blood soaked lands. Featuring raw fuzz guitar, Vox Continental organ sounds, a healthy dose of feedback and influences from The Who as well as Black Sabbath and tough bluesrock, WHITE LIGHT didn't spread the message of The Lord in church, but at loud clubs and big rock venues. In 1972 the guys were finalists in a talent contest organized by Melody Maker magazine. The band's album includes the side-long title-track which has to be heard to be believed.
