NEW ARRIVALS
CIPOLLINA,JOHN - Raven (Quicksilver Messenger Service 1976)-Label:RHINO The legendary guitarist from Quicksilver Messenger Service recorded this album in 1976, shortly after returning from a UK tour with Welsh band Man. The great thing about John Cipollina is his guitar playing. But the other great thing was his willingness to play rock and roll. He was not concerned about his status as a star but clearly was a musician who liked the idiom and liked to perform and liked to do so with other kindred spirits. Sharing his wealth of talent is the mark of a special man, of a man with humility and a generous spirit and these attributes are clearly in evidence in these performances. “Raven” is described as Cippolina's version of a big band and the album is a testament to that idea. There is a tightness in the performances which shows the familiarity of the material and sense of sharing. It is clear too that the band members shared a closeness which is more than friendliness, a sort of spirituality which is very special. An enjoyable album as a historical record, as an example of John Cipollina’s playing, as a part of the Bay Area musical legacy, and as the work of a rock 'n 'roll band. Extensive notes on the story of “Raven” and the trials and tribulations of bringing it to fruition. All songs have been remastered from the original tapes. CD $10 SKU:18989
CONCRETE RUBBER BAND -Risen Savior ( insane underground basement psych)-Label:HIDDEN VISION RECORDS (USA) Abundant fuzz guitar, organ, and male and female lead vocals.. A very strange rock album (in the best way), which just happens to have religion as its subject. "Official reissue of this insane underground basement psychedelic rock album, a massively-rare 1974 release on the Missouri-based American Artists label of which only two or three copies are known to be exist in private collections. The label says this about it: "Some of the most ‘out there’ psychedelic sounds can be found on this Kansas trio's mega-rare custom LP. The song, ‘Christian,’ for example, opens with a Bach fugue before laying in its steady rock beat punctuated with subterranean wah-wah guitar and a wild, heavily modulated lead. The song, ‘Wicked,’ opens side two with a bizarre amalgam of what sounds like synthesized, bubbling lava pits, frequency oscillations, distorted, sci-fi vocals and shortwave, static patterns. This is psychedelia at its most underground and extreme, with all the ear marks of a bad drug trip which, given the songs dark subject matter, works just fine. Likewise, ‘What Shall We Do?’ opens with a lengthy outpouring of some of the most vicious, distorted, fuzz guitar ever then relaxes into a spooky, dream-like ballad before it climaxes with a flying saucer effect that sounds straight out of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon.” There are several fine and moody garage tracks here as well. The overall impact is difficult to describe: the songs are highly listenable and quite creative. Dense echoes add to the homemade feel of the entire project. Duncan Long, the main man behind the synths, guitars and song writing is now a published science fiction author, which explains a lot, we think. CD $10 SKU:18995
CRENSHAW,MARSHALL -The Definitive Pop Collection-Label:RHINO The abundance of Marshall Crenshaw's melodic gifts makes him the Mozart of rock. His emotionally astute yet humorous musical vignettes are full of appealing hooks and harmonies, and his purview runs the gamut from rockabilly and roots rock to girl-group pop. The 30 tracks include 'Someday, Someway,' 'There She Goes Again,' 'Cynical Girl,' 'You're My Favorite Waste of Time,' 'Blues Is King,' and 'This Is Easy.'" "It's not just that Crenshaw is a cult favorite and critics' pet; he's also steeped in rock & roll traditions that date back to Buddy Holly and Gene Vincent…. Featuring tracks from each of Crenshaw's studio albums, as well as a couple of rare single sides and his cover of Buddy Holly's 'Crying, Waiting, Hoping' from the La Bamba soundtrack, The Definitive Pop Collection pretty much lives up to its title…. Anyone who loves great pop music will love this. "—All Music Guide CD $10 SKU:18988
FARREN, MICK - MONA (Deviants 1970) Label:CAPTAIN TRIP debut solo album of former Deviants leader released on Transatlantic in 1970; primarily hard-rocking heavy metal-ish versions of R&B songs. Farren had returned to the UK from a tour of the west coast of North America with The Deviants, who had risen up against him and sacked him. Farren had, however, previously discussed the idea of a solo album for the second LP of three on the Transatlantic contract. "I was crazy when I did Mona—really mentally ill," Farren has said. "If I listen to it I can still feel it. Maybe I should have chilled out for a few months before making the album, but I was a bit depressed, and I thought I'd just do it entirely my own way for the first time." 'Carnivorous Circus' is a montage of song and spoken word, featuring interviews with a Hells Angel and Steve Took, the latter recounting time he spent in Ashford Remand Centre, as well as recordings of political speeches. Took also provides lead vocal for the short Observe The Ravens section of the title track. Also, during the Society of the Horsemen jam he quotes a lyric ("it don't feel good, 'cos it was made out of wood") from one of his own songs, 'Steel Abortion' (later recorded by his band Shagrat). The cello on "Mona" was provided by Paul Buckmaster, who had demonstrated to Farren the similarities between Bo Diddley and Béla Bartók. CD $10 SKU:18990
GARRIE,NICK -Lost Songs of Nick Garrie-Hamilton (70s folk psych) SAALE -Label:REVOLA As a follow-up to their acclaimed issue of his legendary debut "The Nightmare Of J.B. Stanislas" Rev-Ola is proud to present the perfect follow-up: "The Lost Songs Of Nick Garrie-Hamilton". As New York, Paris, Lisbon and San Francisco have succumbed to the magic of Nick Garrie-Hamilton, why don't you too? Twenty magical tracks remastered in Rev-Ola sonic sound. Beautiful artwork with lots of lovely pics from Nick's own collection. CD $10 SKU:18991
PETER GREEN SPLINTER GROUP -Reaching the Cold 100" + Time Traders (spacey psych jams)-Label: A new, more sublime take of Fleetwood Mac's spacey, psychedelic jam instrumental 'Underway' welcomes former Green and David Gilmour sideman Snowy White back to the fold." —John Duffy. Reaching the Cold 100 is the final Peter Green Splinter Group recording (2003). Polished, warm-toned British blues-rock. Peter Stroud, Nigel Watson and Roger Cotton composed most of the material; yet they have figured out a way to sound like a single songwriter reflecting Green's voice and musical persona. Standouts on this set are the snarling, funky 'Cool Down,' the smoldering 'Look Out for Yourself,' the soul-blues, of 'When Somebody Cares,' and the minimal blues funk in 'Smile.' As a bonus, there are new renditions of Green's 'Black Magic Woman,' 'It Takes Time,' 'Green Manalishi,' and 'Albatross.' Certainly they don't replace the originals, but they are nonetheless captivating moments, especially 'Black Magic Woman' which has been redefined in light of the Santana version, combining the best elements of both. 'Albatross,' is simply one of the most gorgeous guitar instrumentals ever, and Green playing acoustic on it is simply stunning. This is it, the end of this short-lived band's recorded history, and they go out on a high note." —Thom Jure CD $10 SKU:18996
POLIFEMO- ST (70’s psych prog)- Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) RARE debut album by this Argentine rock super-group, led by David Lebon (ex-Color Humano and Pescado Rabioso) on guitar and vocals, Rinaldo Rafanelli (ex-Color Humano and Sui Generis) on bass, Juan Rodríguez (ex-Los Mentales and Sui Generis) on drums, and keyboard player Ciro Fogliatta (ex-Los Gatos, Sacramento and Espíritu; a blend of rock with some slight psychedelic and progressive touches, especially the use of mellotron and moogs; the main thrust of the album is hard and heavy blues-based rock—more than a casual nod to Uriah Heep and other UK hard rock bands; includes both of their rare EMI singles+ b-sides as bonus tracks. CD $10 SKU:18993
QUARTETO 1111 -Singles and EPs(POP PSYCH 1967)-Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) A band that featured the most legendary musician in Portuguese pop music history (Jose Cid, widely renowned in mellotron and progressive music circles), and yet this is the first chance we’ve had to hear anything by his legendary group; what we find is a very nicely packaged fifteen track collection of delicious melodic pop/psychedelia that leads off with Quarteto 1111’s striking debut single ‘A Lenda De El-Rei D. Sebastiao’ from 1967, a song which changed the course of pop music in Portugal; as with any band of quality in that heady time, Quarteto 1111 (Jose Cid in particular) had run-ins with the politicos, which caused some of their output to be suppressed; yet, here are tracks from every year between 1967-1971, including their two English language songs ‘Ode to the Beatles’ and ‘Back to the Country’; the Beatles were obviously a very big influence on Quarteto 1111, which is evident in everything from melodic construction of the songs, to use of backward tape effects, instrumentation, string arrangements, etc.); booklet has some notes on the band’s history, emphasizing the importance of ‘A Lenda De El-Rei D. Sebastiao’. A poetic band, well-represented. CD $10 SKU:18994
SOCRATES- Phos ( 70s Blues Prog Fuzz ) - Label:ANAZITISI "First ever UK CD release of this gem by Greek group Socrates. Formed in 1971, the band was originally known as Socrates Drank the Conium. The band recorded three albums for Polydor in a heavy progressive vein before shortening their name to Socrates. Signing with Vertigo Records, the band travelled to London to record arguably their magnum opus—and the closest they ever came to the progressive rock genre. Lush, atmospheric keyboards enhance the intricate arrangements, which are on par with the best the international rock, hard rock and progressive rock could offer at the time. And the source of those keyboards: legendary musician and composer Vangelis, who not only played keyboards, but also produced the record; he also co-wrote the excellent instrumental 'Every My Dream Comes To An End.' As with Vangelis' own band, Aphrodite’s Child, Socrates fused rock and traditional Greek musical influences with great success, particularly on tracks such as 'Mountains' and the justifiably famous 'Starvation.' A much sought after release by progressive rock fans and Vangelis collectors, this edition of Phos has been newly remastered, fully restores the album artwork, and includes a new essay." CD $10 SKU:18997
SOFT MACHINE- Turns On Vol 1 (1967)-Label:VOICEPRINT (England) First vital collection of archival live Soft Machine recordings; these are from 1967, and (unlike “Turns On Vol. 2”) include some studio recordings. Robert Wyatt's drumming is nearly miraculous, and Mike Ratledge's organ is at its daring and explorative best. Admittedly this is not meant as an introduction to the band for novices, but lovers of the Soft Machine will be blown away by the alternate versions on this disc; they are even more daring than the official releases. Turns On, Vol. 1 catches the newly formed group in their first studio recordings plus live performances in early to mid-1967, all pre-dating the first LP. The lineup on most of the 16 tracks consists of Robert Wyatt, Mike Ratledge, and Kevin Ayers. Daevid Allen appears on four studio recordings. The repertoire draws a lot from the Wilde Flowers' songbook, Ayers, Hugh Hopper and Brian Hopper having written most of the material (Wyatt and Ratledge were only beginning to submit material). Fans will appreciate some of these recordings, especially the first "Clarence in Wonderland"; the 13-minute "Hope for Happiness"; and Wyatt's "Lullaby Letter.” ~ François Couture. Recording information: European Studio (1967); Middle Earth And Speakeasy Clubs, London, England (1967); UK Studio (1967). CD $6 SKU:18998
TERRY & THE PIRATES- Comanche Boots (70s )-Label:ACADIA Twenty nine years after the release of the original Too Close For Comfort comes the third issue of this priceless and timeless music from San Francisco's own Terry & The Pirates.” Another view: “Probably only remembered today as one of the many bands graced by the guitarwork of John Cipollina following his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service, and as a footnote in the career of Nicky Hopkins, Terry and the Pirates deserve much greater recognition. Although Cipollina’s feral guitar is undoubtedly essential to their charms, the work of Terry Dolan himself should not be underestimated. His voice is an acquired taste, a strange mixture of David Crosby and Captain Beefheart, but as such, it’s impressively distinctive. Meanwhile, his songwriting mines that same rich vein of American folk which yielded ‘Pride Of Man’ (so memorably covered by Quicksilver). The best songs on this collection of various live and studio recordings are certainly Dolan’s own. Whilst a version of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher & Higher’ might be entertainingly audacious, covers of ‘Mystery Train’ and ‘Don’t Do It’ aren’t going to make anybody forget those by The Band, despite some impressive sparring between Cipollina and second guitarist Greg Douglass on the latter. In this context, tracks like ‘Inside and Out’ and ‘Inlaws and Outlaws’ distinguish themselves as fine examples of original Californian rock n’ roll. Even if none of this is especially ground-breaking or epoch-defining music, it’s played with spirit and any fans of West Coast music who might have easily overlooked it should be sure to rectify their mistake. CD $10 SKU:18999
VON, RONNIE - ST (70s psych) -Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA Second part of the amazing psychedelic trilogy by Brazilian star Ronnie Von, recorded between 1969-1970. There’s little doubt that the three albums which comprise Von1s brief psychedelic legacy are not only a memorable break from his multitude of pop outings, but more importantly, stand as three of the more compelling psychedelic recordings to emerge from any single artist of the era. This record is a collection of 12 psychedelic pop songs, with unique arrangements, featuring violins, reverse guitars, brass, piano and various psychedelic effects. Even more innovative than the previous album (already reissued by Discos Mariposa) and nothing like what you might have expected from someone who is more pop star and psychedelic guru. Some songs are entrancing epics, some Tropicalia, and others just pop/psych masterpieces. Includes the entire album, plus 4 bonus tracks. CD $10 SKU:18992

3 HUREL- ST (70’s psych fuzz guitar ) - Label:World Psych Korea Recorded between 1970 and 1975 by the talented HUR EL brothers. CD $10 SKU:9009
APHRODITE'S CHILD - It’s Five O Clock (1969 pop psych)Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) The first single, ‘Let Me Love, Let Me Live,’ released in October 1969, made it to a number one position in the French charts, but it was the B-side ‘Marie Jolie’ that was most popular in the rest of Europe. The title track ‘It's Five O'clock’ quickly followed the same path; released in December 1969, it did well in the charts of many European countries. Dream-like, baroque, carefully crafted pop/psych with English lyrics, in some ways very much in the style of English bands of the era, but with that little twist that makes it very special; three bonus tracks include rare singles; lyrics and photos too in the 16-page booklet. CD $10 SKU:18951
ASTRAL DAZE - VA (70 s Psychedelic South African Rock) - Label:FRESH Although the South African rock movement of the late sixties and early seventies was not a major commercial success, it's participants heralded an exciting new age in South African rock and started a movement aimed at changing the musical tastes of fans in a spectacular way. Stadium concerts became the vehicle for feeding the youth with heavier rock sounds, and behind studio glass were producers like Clive Calder, Billy Forrest, Graham Beggs and Selwyn Miller who acted as change agents to transform conventional pop into heavier 4 to 5 minute songs. The movement's struggle for recognition through airplay remained unanswered and only the true fans of rock knew about their existence. This collection brings together rarities from artists we know (tracks from Abstract Truth, Suck, Otis Waygood, Freedom1s Children, John & Philipa Cooper, McCully Workshop, Third Eye, and Hawk), as well as others we1ve not heard before, like Omega Ltd., the Bats, the Fireflies, the Idiots, Tidal Wave, and the Invaders. AVE ROCK - ST (70s space psych)Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) Excellent debut album from one of Argentina’s best groups, which included Daddy Antogna from Orion’s Beethoven; very spacey psychedelic progressive from 1974, featuring the sweet ‘Ausencia’, the moody ‘El absurdo y la melodía’, and the great guitars and organ of ‘Gritos’; the best track might well be the long improvised instrumental ‘Viva Bélgica’; a very good effort, full of shifting rhythms and rich melodies. “Ave Rock were Argentina’s version of a progressive Deep Purple; great guitar driven heavy prog/psych drenched in tons of Hammond organ. Songs are very well developed with some nice mood variations and dynamic arrangements. Although there are some vocals they play a minor role as the album is mostly instrumental. The entire album is pretty trippy and spacey, with tons of guitar, bass, drum and Hammond interplay. In many ways this album reminds me of bands from the Ital-prog genre. Clearly one of the classics of Argentinian rock, and a fantastic record. CD $10 SKU:18952
BILLY BOND Y LA PESADA- Volumen 3-4 (heavy psych 1972)- Label:CLOUD FOREST A wildly eclectic brew of driving heaviness, looser trippiness, and even some delicate moments from Billy Bond -- a more freewheeling and ambitious mix of post psychedelic wildness from Brazil's Billy Bond & co! Volume 3 from 1972 is made up of 2 lengthy suites, " Lado 1 -- Acustico" and "Lado 2 -- Eectrica Camplementaria". The former is surprisingly lean in spots, with some folky psychedelia in the blender. The latter is full of abrupt, dramatic stop-start dynamics. Volume 4 from '73 includes "No Nos Paran Mas", "Hacia Algun Lugar", Gracias Al Cielo", "Estamos Hartos", "Ano 1939", "Algo Esta Por Suceder" and more. This one is more of a wild and wooly rock & roll set, and a deliciously unpredictable one! CD $10 SKU:7409

ELLIE POP- St (70s psych pop)- Label:World Psychedelia Definitely a pop/psychedelic classic-in-waiting, whose time has perhaps finally come; great songs right from the start, all oozing Beatles harmonics, with tracks such as 'Some Time Ago' and 'Caught In the Rain' especially thick with Beatles influence (thus explaining their appearance on the "Pepperisms" compliation CD $10 SKU:4132
ERIC BURDON & WAR -The Lost Broadcasts-Label: Following the split of the original Animals in 1966, Eric Burdon formed a new band called Eric Burdon and The Animals sometimes referred to as "The New Animals" This band moved more in the direction of psychedelic rock music and were heavily influenced by the music coming out of San Francisco at the time. During his time in San Francisco in 1969, Eric Burdon hooked up with funk band War. They joined forces under as (strangely) Eric Burdon and War. Together they recorded two albums; they also enjoyed singles success with ‘Spill The Wine’ and to a lesser extent ‘Paint It Black’ from “Black Man's Burdon.” The session that produced this DVD package was filmed in September 1970, and features four tracks, two tracks apiece from the two albums then currently available. The performance features the hit single ‘Spill The Wine’ alongside ‘Tobacco Road’, ‘Bare Back Rider’ and ‘Paint It Black,’ which is extended well beyond its original two minutes to almost thirteen minutes in length. Shortly after during the tour to promote “Black Man's Burdon,” Eric Burdon collapsed with a suspected asthma attack and left the tour and the band. War continued without him and finished the tour and Eric Burdon went on to a solo career with occasional reformations of the Animals. This then is a historic performance, which captures Eric Burdon during an exciting period of his career. And whilst the period 1970-1971 is a well-documented part of his career, this film footage of Eric Burdon and War performing together is rare. DVD $8 SKU:19015
FLEURS DE PAVOT, LES - ST (60s French hippie psych ) -Label:Underground Masters Originally released in 1968, the now impossible to find self titled album by Les Fleurs De Pavot is considered as the first psychedelic/hippie record from France. A veil of mystery surrounded the real origins of the band at the time...according to their press release, they were formed by a couple of hippies, Groovy Pat from London and Jesus from San Francisco who met at some Soft Machine shows in Paris...the reality was more unglamorous: Les Fleurs De Pavot were in fact a twist band called Bourgeois De Calais, transformed into exploitation acid-eater hippies by their manager JP Rawson. The album was produced by the genius tandem of Jean Claude Vannier (famous for his involvement on Gainsbourg's "Melody Nelson" album) & Bernard Estardy (Nino Ferrer's organist / sound engineer). An explosive mix of psychedelic pop, yey music & bizarre studio experimentation featuring 12 superb tracks full of fuzz guitars, groovy vocals and swirling organ with very explicit drug related lyrics. Music ranges from mod psych dancefloor smashers like "A degager" to the final six minute lysergic freak-out "Le Rateau De La Meduse" and even one cool bossa track. CD $10 SKU:15715
GILES BROTHERS - 1962-1967 (pre King Crimson prog)-Label:VOICEPRINT (England) The Giles Brothers are famous for being founders of the band Giles Giles and Fripp, which eventually metamorphosed into King Crimson, one of the giants of Progressive rock. The recordings on this album, however, come from a period when the Giles brothers were members of a number of pure pop, R ‘n’ B and soul influenced bands; the Giles brothers were the fraternal rhythm section with six bands: Johnny King And The Raiders, Dave Anthony And The Rebels, The Dowland Brothers And The Soundtracks, The Sands, The Interns, Trendsetters Ltd. and The Brain. Six singles were released by the Dowland Brothers and Trendsetters Ltd., with two additional releases by The Trend and The Brain in 1967. Michael and Peter Giles backed Bo Diddley, Napoleon XIV, and Gene Vincent; they appeared on television shows, and played live on BBC Radio 1's Easybeat, and the group's own four program series. Reviews: “The nine 45’s plus half a dozen EMI out-takes the Giles Brothers appeared on as members of a succession of early-mid '60s pop outfits from the duo's pre-Crimson days make for fascinating listening.” “The good folks at Voiceprint Records have done more than most to keep interest in the brother's earlier work. The Giles, Giles and Fripp album 'The Brondesbury Road Tapes' is a fascinating collection of previously unreleased material which remained for some thirty-odd years in a private collection before Voiceprint issued the album. Now Voiceprint have released the work that the Giles Brothers recorded between 1962 and 1967, and it's going to be something of an eye-opener even for those who have always expected the unexpected from this most extraordinary drummer and bassist... This is a fascinating collection of tracks, that even if they weren't connected by the Giles Brothers would put to shame many of those 1960’s compilations of rare recordings that appear frequently. Although this release has obvious appeal to followers of the Giles Brothers, there is so much here that anyone who has even the slightest interest in British pop music (before and just after those four guys from Liverpool changed the face of music forever) will simply love.” All the tracks come from the personal archives of Peter and Mike Giles. CD $10 SKU:12230
GONZALES, WALLY -Tunog Pinoy (heavy acid blues psych)Label:VICOR ENTERTAINMENT (Philippines) Just listening to the soaring solos of the third track, ‘Pinag-isa’, makes us think how much this sounds like Pink Floyd circa “Dark Side of the Moon”—atmospheric, with breathy vocals, yet thick with that mid-70’s heavy energy at the same time; then you get to ‘Rock & Roll Mama’, and it’s stinging guitar leads and crunching rhythm section all the way; Gonzalez clearly was not a one trick (heavy acid blues rock) pony, which explains why this album has always been held in such high regard among those who had a chance to hear it. CD $10 SKU:18971
JUAN DE LA CRUZ-HEMIG NATIN(GREAT 70S GARAGE PSYCH from the Philippines) Label:VICOR First release of this essential album (1973) by hard-rock powerhouse power trio (a band, not a man) from the Philippines, who flourished in the 1970s-their first studio only album .Includes the garage-psych great, I Wanna Say Yeah. KALEIDOSCOPE- St (rare 60s MExican psych(paper mini lp replica slv.) - Label:VAM Incredible Mexican mind expander from the 1969 that could have easily been on an 'Endless Journey' comp. KLENCZON, KRZYSZTOF-TRZY KORONY (60s hard psych with fuzz guitars)-Label:UNDERGROUND MASTERS (France) French release. - One of the most important musicians in the Polish 60's & 70's rock scene. He was a member of the well-known psych 60's group CZERWONE GITARY indeed, and after the group disbanded he soon released some solo albums. This is by far his best, and it's a total masterpiece of Eastern Europe's rock scene. Originally released in 1971, it features up to 15 hard-psychedelic-rock tracks plenty of terrific wild fuzz guitars. CD $10 SKU:4224
LOS SONODORES- La Vida (dreamy 1972 psych)-Label:Discos Mariposa first reissue of this dreamy psychedelic rarity from 1972, beloved of many crate-digging dj’s; it’s said to have been made by Spanish and Chilean musicians in the USA; don't know about that, but it was issued in the USA on Caytronics, and has been much sought after since then (see the "Collector's Dreams" books); there are some great beat ballads, as well as nicely trippy melodic psychedelic dreamscapes on what corresponds more or less to side two of the original LP; the instrumentation includes some nice light guitar, which flits in and out and over the tracks in a way that's unusual, ringing out over the organ that’s there at the bottom of the sound spectrum; there's some nice drumming on the record: not exactly funky, but with a nice little kick that really keeps things interesting! a band that were rightly named "the Dreamers" CD $8 SKU:19016
MARKLEY- A Group (US psych legends) Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM (Greece) Reissue on CD of what was actually the 5th and final album by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band are a showcase for the various dementias of vocalist Bob Markley (paranoia and a very keen interest in young—emphasis on young—women), and the electric shock treatment of guitarist/vocalist Dan Harris; the album's rich harmonies and full, delicate arrangements show the abundant influence of Michael Lloyd, who co-produced the album with Markley; tracks such as "Elegant Ellen", "Sweet Lady Eleven" and "Magic Cat" are nearly as good as some of the highlights from the WCPAEB catalog; a surprisingly consistent and accomplished album for a band about to collapse under the collective weight of it's own insanity. CD $10 SKU:8154
MILLENIUM - Pieces- Essential listening for sunshine pop and psych-pop fans!- Label:VOICEPRINT (England) By 1969, the Millennium, Curt Boettcher (who was also an independently contracted producer for Columbia Records), executive producer Gary Usher of the band’s “Begin” album, and a slew of Usher-produced acts like Gene Clark, the Peanut Butter Conspiracy and Chad & Jeremy, were all let go by the label. Combined with the internal conflicts the Millennium were experiencing, and multiplied by the inherent pressures of their rock-n-roll lifestyles, the loss of their recording contract was a fatal blow for the group. The Millennium disbanded in 1969, leaving behind a classic one-shot "desert island" LP. Yet the Millennium's breakup did not eliminate all interest in the group. Somewhere along the line, enough "people in the know" purchased or were handed copies of their album, and soon a small but devoted cult began to form around the record. For whatever reason, a good amount of unrealized Millennium material languished in the vaults. It is an incredible revelation to finally hear these missing puzzle pieces which reveal a band of enormous depth and songwriting talent. After listening to these unreleased demos, the divine results of the cosmically profound collaborative effort known as the Millennium become even more apparent. Unlike most of the concurrent L.A. super-groups (e.g. Rhinoceros), the members of the Millennium actually gelled musically. The various band members engaged in a variety of writing partnerships that resulted in some of the most beautiful (if under-appreciated) music of their era. Essential listening for sunshine pop and psych-pop fans! CD $8 SKU:12228
MOPS-Psychedelic Sounds in Japan-Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) The Mops are the undisputed kings of the late sixties/early seventies Japanese rock scene; all of their discs are marked by spectacular singing, playing, arranging, and songwriting. Yet it is their first album, "Psychedelic Sounds in Japan," that gets the most praise—rightly so, as it's a marked deviation from most of the other music making going on at the time in Japan, with its sharply stripped-down sound and emphasis on musicianship, songwriting, and atmosphere over production values. As such, it's one of the few Japanese rock albums that has an outside-of-Japan following, and it's frequently name-checked on lists of classic obscure albums. But of course, this means that original LP copies of the album trade for hilarious amounts! This reissue restores the track "Blind Bird," (missing from other reissues of this album, apparently due to its "offensive" lyrics), and adds seven bonus tracks. If you've never heard this album, and you're a fan of tightly written songs, great playing, totally incomprehensible lyrics and a smattering of surprising covers (‘The Letter,’ ‘Light My Fire,’ ‘Somebody to Love’), this one’s for you. And how can anyone live without the classic ‘I Am Just a Mops’—I mean, aren’t we all? CD $10 SKU:18954

O TERCO - ST (70s Brazilian psych)-Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA Their second album (1972), a landmark of Brazilian progressive/psychedelic rock, in no small part thanks to Luiz Pablo Simas (ex-member of Módulo 1000), who brought his talent and his mini-Moog to the band. O Terço had been working on a new sound for some time, taking part in the 'Aberto para Obras' spectacle in 1970 at the Teatro de Arena do Largo da Cariocafor, the main arena for bullfighting. People wending their way through barbed-wire had to choose between looking at a lower stage, upon which Modulo 1000 was playing, or at an upper stage, where O Terço was playing. Below, a woman prepared popcorn in a stove, and further on, seated in a urinal, the brother of O Terço band-member Jorge Amiden played static on his guitar for three hours, then smashed his instrument to pieces! Participation in this sort of anarchy makes it no surprise that their album kicks off with a hard rock guitar riff, perhaps influenced by King Crimson, Led Zeppelin or even Black Sabbath; even so, other tracks present a blend of symphonic and psychedelic sounds, with beautiful pastoral passages that demonstrate the influence of Os Mutantes, the Moody Blues, and early Pink Floyd. The final track, 'Amanhecer Total' ('Complete Dawn'), is amazing - a nineteen minute collage with a pastoral introduction (and lovely female vocals), vocals, synth lines, acoustic guitars and percussion effects that provide a fine, easy atmosphere; then a psychedelic section, with strange keyboard effects merged with fading voices - dreamy, and ambient; heavy guitar riffs, low-profile keyboards, and aggressive vocals revisit the album's first track; then the finale, with soft piano (revisiting the bucolic origins of the suite) and synthesizer coloring the mantra-like chorus. A grand finale for a great album. Two bonus tracks are from an EP released between the first album and this one." CD $10 SKU:6149
ORION’S BEETHOVEN- Superangel (Argentine 70s psych ) -Label:CLOUD FOREST It is an unfortunate reality with many groups from Argentina that, although they may have spent several years developing their own sound, they rarely have a chance to demonstrate the results in the recording studio. The end result: the fame of some of these bands has only very slowly spread abroad to the general world of record collectors and fans of underground music. This is certainly the case with Orion’s Beethoven, loosely described as a “symphonic psychedelic group”, primarily, it seems, because of the way that they worked classical music themes into a jagged psychedelic wah-wah guitar shaped world of their own making. Here we have a reissue of their debut album (1973), which starts out with a riff that sounds like a schizoid version of the Get Smart theme music, and goes on from there into weird reaches of flanged vocals, hard-edged guitar solos; the second track, a thirteen minute suite, is driven by guitar—first acoustic, then a wiry-wounding electric; track three is stranger still—echo effects, flanged drums sounding like an outer-spatial blues band jam. I’m sure those “classical music” themes are there somewhere in track four, but there’s no sense of “precious” about this band. Live bonus track is brief—a portion of the suite (track two) from the album—and apparently a rare document of the band on stage. CD $10 SKU:6268

ROCH, ERNAN- La Onda Pesada (70s west coast style psych)-Label:MARIPOSA (Argentina) Reissues of rare underground albums from Mexico: con las Voces Frescas "La Onda Pesada": first time reissue on CD of this extremely rare Rex label psychedelic classic (1971) from Mexico; West Coast style psych—a little bit folksy, a little bit psychedelic from this a Mexican singer known only for this rare album. Roch sings in English throughout, often in a mode that mixes bluesy phrasings with a raspier folk style, a package made all the more excellent thanks to the mix of acoustic and fuzzed-out electric guitars; these are heavy on dark-edged phrasings, and they really give the record a spooky feel, one that some people have likened to being almost folk/funk at times! Production is simple, but somehow heavenly, floating with a brilliance crafted from a very few simple elements; one of those rare perfect moments of studio magic CD $8 SKU:5964
SOFT MACHINE- Turns On Vol 2(60s) Label:VOICEPRINT (England) Second vital collection of archival live Soft Machine recordings from 1967 and 1968. Soft Machine (billed as The Soft Machine up to 1969) were formed in the summer of 1966 by Robert Wyatt (drums, vocals), Kevin Ayers (bass, guitar, vocals), Daevid Allen (guitar) and Mike Ratledge (organ) plus, for the first few gigs only, American guitarist Larry Nowlin. Wyatt, Ayers and Hopper had been founding members of the Wilde Flowers, later incarnations of which would include future members of another Canterbury band, Caravan. This first Soft Machine line-up became involved in the early UK underground, featuring prominently at the UFO Club, and subsequently other London clubs like the Speakeasy and Middle Earth, and recorded the group's first single ' Love Makes Sweet Music.’ During July and August 1967, promoter and manager Giorgio Gomelsky booked shows all along the Cote d'Azur, with the band's most notorious early gig taking place in the village square of Saint-Tropez. This led to an invitation to play at producer Eddie Barclay's trendy "Nuit Psychédélique"; the band performed a forty minute rendition of ‘We Did It Again,’ singing the refrain over and over, achieving a Zen-like quality. This made them instant darlings of the Parisian "in" crowd, resulting in invitations to appear on leading television shows and at the Paris Biennale in October 1967. Meanwhile, upon their return from their summer sojourn in France, Allen (an Australian) was denied re-entry to the United Kingdom, so the group continued as a trio, while he returned to Paris to found Gong. The tracks on this disc are drawn from three live performances: tracks 1-5 are from Amerstdam, 10 December 1967; track 6 is from the Middle Earth Club in London, 10 November 1967; tracks 7-14 are from Col Ballroom, Davenport, Iowa, 11 August 196 CD $6 SKU:10918
VON, RONNIE -A Máquina Voadora (70s psych)-Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA “The last and probably best album from Vons incredible psychedelic trilogy from the years 1969-1970. We said some time ago that of the three key albums from this long-time Brazilian pop-star, that the first was the best, but hearing this again suggests that its time to revise that opinion. It1s true that all three albums make it clear that the psychedelic effects of Tropicalia were not confined to Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Gal Costa. Yes, Von often takes a poppier angle in getting to a similar fuzz-guitar driven musical landscape, but not only does he get there all the same, on this album the pop is minimal, and the fuzz supreme. Its difficult to describe how balanced this album is, as it features truly one-of-a-kind songs, which include any number of effects and treatments of Ronnie1s enchanting voice, all of which matches perfectly with the mysterious and melancholic songs on the album. Listen to it and let yourself fly into the far reaches of Ronnie Vons dreamy, twisted mind. Comes with a fulsome 20-page booklet that includes a history of Vons career (sort of), as well as lyrics” CD $10 SKU:8629
VON, RONNIE - A Misteriosa Luta (70s pop psychmasterpiece) -Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA Second part of the amazing psychedelic trilogy by Brazilian star Ronnie Von, recorded between 1969-1970. CD $8 SKU:8660
VOX DEI- Cuero Caliente! (70s Argentine power trio)Label:DISC JOCKEY (Argentina) "the power-trio Vox Dei is often regarded as one of the most important Argentinean bands; in 1973.Just after the release of their masterpiece album "La Biblia," the band re-recorded for the Disk Jockey label most of the songs from their debut album (which had originally been recorded for the now-bankrupt Mandioca label); the LP included rock numbers such as 'Reflejos' and 'Compulsión,' as well as great ballads like 'Canción para una mujer (que no está),' which had been released as a single; this classic of Argentinean rock is now available in an edition that includes both sides of their single from 1971 as bonus tracks. The original pressing came with plain white cover, and a few copies were later pasted-on with a few very low quality photos. For this reissue we've used this artwork (restored) and also included a booklet with infos and photos. Fantastic remastered sound

ZOOT MONEY-Transition (LOST 70S PSYCH GEM)-Label:RIGHTEOUS An excellent album! Featuring the same players who were in the Big Roll Band (including future Police guitarist Andy Summers) on all tracks, Zoot Money came up with this tip-top set, which has soulful ballads, up-tempo mod material and a couple of dreamy sitar numbers written by Summers; 'Soma' inspired Summers and Money to push the boundaries and encouraged the band to wig out further, and in a state of psyche-pop bliss, they decided they were so far out of the Big Roll Band sound that they should change their name to Dantalian's Chariot. They played shows with the Pink Floyd and featured a couple of the tracks from “Transition” in stranger incarnations; Dantalion’s became a cult classic in the process, but turned their existing mod following off and failed to ignite. After the Dantalion hiatus, “Transition” was finally released (in 1968) on the Direction label; by that time, the mods had embraced the psychedelic bug and the album slipped into obscurity, and became one of those buried treasures that is talked of but seldom actually even seen. Finally, this lost gem has made it to CD. Remastered from the original quarter inch tapes, with all of its glorious sweeping sounds, aching vocals and groovy upbeat tunes intact, it's the epitome of cool. CD $8 SKU:19014
