ASTEROID 4-Under My Umbrella (stellar psych pop)Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE Formed in Philadelphia and now based in Northern California, The Asteroid No. 4 have been melting minds since the late ‘90s, with a prolific discography of reverb-drenched recordings that span the sonic spectrum. Influenced by the finest psychedelic bands of every era, from The Beatles to The Rain Parade to Spacemen 3, the group has a unique sound that expands exponentially under the liquid light projections of their fabled live performances. b/w “House Of The Seventh Moon” A bespoke slice of stellar psych pop crafted especially for Hypnotic Bridge, “Under My Umbrella” finds The Asteroid No. 4 time-tripping back to the heyday of psychedelia’s first wave. With prerequisite ADT vocal recording, Leslie speakers, Mellotron, harpsichord and backward guitars, the band pays homage to revered masters such as Tomorrow, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Donavon, The Hollies (and many more), embracing the atmosphere of London circa 1967 so succinctly that many listeners assume the song is a long-lost classic of the era. House Of The Seventh Moon” takes a more organic approach, enveloping listeners with echoes of The Moody Blues, Grapefruit, Orange Bicycle, early Hawkwind and legendary Bay Area bands that shaped the soundscape of The Asteroid No. 4’s current home. Which is appropriate, as the rich Victorian vernacular of San Francisco and the idyllic countryside of Northern California inspired not only the songs on this single, but also the complementary artwork by one of the band’s favorite artists, Andrew McGranahan, who employed vintage imagery enhanced with a thoroughly modern color palate 45 RPM $10 SKU:22512

BACKBITER - Rolled (Guitar player from the Freeks drummer from Clawhammer )Label:BLUE MAN FROM URANUS Backbiter's exhilarated debut Get Together is a collection of emphatic and distinct songs that nod to punk's alliances with R&B, as well as the screamy male emoting of late-'70s rock. Guitarist/vocalist Jonathan Hall delivers original and articulate lyrics on seven of the nine cuts, most notably on the melodic "Get Together" and "Rolled," released as a coveted single by Blue Man from Uranus (and co-written with bass player Heath Seifert). Spattered with competent, even magic acoustic moments, Get Together is a great record for remembering that in punk'n'roll, drums mean everything, thanks to a typically brilliant (and mercifully unburied) contribution by Claw Hammer's Bob Lee. 45 RPM $5 SKU:25323

LAISSEZ FAIRS -10,000 Tomorrows- IYL Roger McGuinn. Fairport Convention. Lord Dunsany. The Who. Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE b/w “From Field To Field Dreams and rivers. Oceans and prisons. Inner battles. Outer cages. The bards of old. The '60s loom large... be they the 1660s or the 1960s... from O'Carolan to Keith Richards and a thousand books and whistles in between. The influences are smashed together violently... and tenderly. William Blake. Roger McGuinn. Fairport Convention. Lord Dunsany. The Who.
The instrumentation on both “10,000 Tomorrows” and “From Field To Field” is actually more than that produced by physical instruments. It is often the way they are recorded: the placement of mics (or the deliberate lack of mics), the use of effects on a guitar passage for impact and its removal as its sound goes elsewhere. Sometimes the vocals become a vibrato that sound like what you could hear at the feasts of the ancient Irish High Kings. The sounds are acoustic and electric, mechanical and spiritual. 45 RPM $10 SKU:23756

REVERBERATIONS -- GONE WAY/MY THIRD EYE (garage psych)Label:ROGUE RECORDS Following in the long tradition of Pacific Northwest garage-psychedelia, The Reverberations have been spreading the love of fuzz, 12-string jangle, pounding drums, and Vox organ across Portland and far beyond for the last 7 years. After one cassette, two LPs and four singles on US and European labels, this is their first release since 2020. 'Gone Away' is a bouncy rude number straight from the garage, and the psych-pop flip, 'My Third Eye' suggests searching inward, while rockin' outward. 45 RPM $10 SKU:25144
SACRED ORANGE -Mister Opel (60s style psych)-Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE b/w “Away My Love” and “Crystal Sunlight” A psychedelic supergroup composed of members of Electric Looking Glass, Triptides, Dream Phases, Frankie and the Witch Fingers and more, Sacred Orange is the brainchild of former Creation Factory guitarist Neil Soiland. With influences as diverse as One In A Million, The Beatles, Tintern Abbey, Graham Gouldman, The Beach Boys, Tommy Roe and Satanic Majesties-era Rolling Stones, the Sacred Orange project epitomizes not only the mind-blowing music that defined psychedelia’s golden age, but the camaraderie and shared inspiration that brought it to life. 45 RPM $10 SKU:22513
THUGS /The Satones [Split EP]- (Hate Bombs) Garage-Surf Sci Fi rock 1997 orig press Label:BLUE MAN FROM URANUS This is the perfect split between two bands who could easily provide the soundtrack for any beach party movie released during the 1950s. On one hand, there are the Thugs, whose lo-fi brand of surf and raw punk energy flies at the fast pace of the Ventures on 78 rpms. Meanwhile, the Satones add a layer of '60s keyboards and heavy sci-fi themes that represent more of a futuristic appeal of surf this side of Man or Astro-man?. A BOLHA- Um Passo a Frente ( 60s Brazilian Psych) -Label:LION Brazilian band the Bubbles became the toast of the underground Rio de Janeiro scene, backing Tropicalist singer Gal Costas residence at the Sucata night club in 1970. They won the Best Band of the Festival award at the VII FIC of 1971 (International Festival of Songs), the same year they appeared on Lenos Vida y obra de Johnny McCartney album. After venturing to England to attend the Isle of Wight Festival, they decided to experiment with a heavier sound, more akin to UK bands of that era (Deep Purple, Cream, King Crimson, Humble Pie, with a little Beatles White Album in for good measure) than that of their Brazilian cohorts. A name change to A Bolha later, still loaded with verve and swagger, fueled by drugs, they recorded their first album, which has secured a permanent place as one of the best hard psych rock albums to ever emerge from South America. The LP, Um Passo a frente (A step forward), was released in 1973 by the Continental label, in a gatefold cover which was quite luxurious for the era. This masterpiece, now impossibly hard to find as an original, certainly made a name for A Bolha in the pantheon of 1970s Brazilian rock. But success in the early 1970s was not like it had once been in the old Jovem Guarda or Tropicalist days, when bands had weekly TV shows to help them become well-known nationwide‹and eventually, worldwide. In other words, the meager abilities of Continental to promote the album made it a collectors item, not the fate a band would actively seek for their recordings. Luckily, we at Lion Productions are able to present these recordings to the world all over again, with the additional benefit of a 20-page booklet with band history, photos, and comments on the songs by band leader Renato Ledeira. Includes both sides of the bands infamous hard-rocking 1971 single as bonus tracks. CD $12 SKU:10607
AVE ROCK - ESPACIOS (70s Argentine space psych)Label:FONOCOL Ave Rock was a pioneer of symphonic prog in Argentina, their second album "Espacios" being their most accomplished effort. The band's ambitions are evidently high, as it can be inferred from the expansive nature of 'Pausa en Espacios' (21 minutes) and 'Surcos en el Aire' (15 minutes). The band has a lot of strong points: an ability to organize diverse musical motifs with cohesion, a clever management of textures and tempo shifts, robust skills, and solid interplay. While references to Yes are evident in Ave Rock's global sound, Ave Rock's music tends to be more reflective, so their major foreign influences stem from the eerie melancholy of 1973-75 Pink Floyd, Genesis' dramatic sensibility, and some of the special ethereal magic usually associated to Invisible, another compatriot band that was influential in the local rock scene during the early 70s. Keyboardist Alfredo Salomone adds a touch of distinction with his hord progressions, and layers on organ and synthesizer. CD $10 SKU:20330
BILLY BOND Y LA PESADA- VOL 1 and 2 & Rocks Blues Rocks Rocks (heavy psych 1972) - Label:CLOUD FOREST A wildly eclectic brew of driving heaviness, looser trippiness, and even some delicate moments from Billy Bond -- a more freewheeling and ambitious mix of post psychedelic wildness from Brazil's Billy Bond & co! Volume 3 from 1972 is made up of 2 lengthy suites, " Lado 1 -- Acustico" and "Lado 2 -- Eectrica Camplementaria". The former is surprisingly lean in spots, with some folky psychedelia in the blender. The latter is full of abrupt, dramatic stop-start dynamics. Volume 4 from '73 includes "No Nos Paran Mas", "Hacia Algun Lugar", Gracias Al Cielo", "Estamos Hartos", "Ano 1939", "Algo Esta Por Suceder" and more. This one is more of a wild and wooly rock & roll set, and a deliciously unpredictable one! CD $8 SKU:18947
CHILLIWACK - RIDIN HIGH(Canadian 70s pop)- Label:PACEMAKER With their catchy, easygoing hooks and bright, melodic style — distinguished by the soaring falsetto and tasteful guitar playing of lead singer and principal songwriter Bill Henderson — the Vancouver rock band Chilliwack produced some of the most enduring Canadian songs of the 1970s and early 1980s, including “Lonesome Mary,” “Fly at Night,” and “My Girl (Gone Gone Gone). CD $10 SKU:19946
DOUG SNYDER & BOB THOMPSON - Daily Dance (IGGY/MC5 influenced) -Label:LION After meeting at a Stooges/MC5 concert, drummer Bob Thompson and guitarist Doug Snyder met one fine day in October 1972 in Thompson’s kitchen and bashed out this set of fiery improvisations, seemingly influenced as much by Iggy’s proto-punk moves as John Coltrane’s whole "sheets of sound" ethos; the result is a mythical frenzy of distorted guitar and improvised drums, creating walls of psychedelic noise; its sound is unparalleled for its time, preceding its closest kin, New York's no-wave explosion, by a solid five years. And because of it's lack of pretensions (it was done almost innocently), the record comes off as something, dare we say, a little more "spiritual" than is the norm for such excursions. It is a singular recording, one that mainlines the classic high energy pantheon of the Velvet Underground, Stooges, Pharaoh Sanders, Sonny Sharrock, etc. while anticipating the free jazz/noise/no wave synthesis of groups that would follow in their footsteps. Thompson and Snyder get into some abstruse territory, with Snyder tearing industrial gamelan shapes from his six strings while Thompson uses the guts of his kit as the basis for new tonal alphabets. But it’s all rendered with a strong savage ethos that effortlessly equates monochord rock obliteration with the celestial freedom of Cecil Taylor/John Coltrane, et al., while establishing new territory as advanced as that attained by the most far-reaching visionaries of the rock ‘n’ roll blueprint... still hard to believe that this was recorded in 1972. A major historical unearthing, remastered from the original tapes, and beautifully packaged in a Stoughton paste-on mini-LP jacket, with an informative Obi/U-Card, and an extensive 20-page booklet of liner notes and photos. Produced in conjunction with Cantor Records, who recently made Daily Dance available on vinyl for the first time in 35 years. Includes one bonus track (not included on the LP reissue), which was intended for the original release, but left off at the last moment for time considerations.
"They generate waves of energy through cascading feedback squall and drumbo bash and shimmer. A few tracks will start with something vaguely resembling a 'groove,' before they quickly deteriorate into their lonely Buckeye din." —Dante Carfagna.
"In 1972-73, all of their respective busy-'60s musical experiences coalesced in the birth of this Daily Dance disc you're now sliding into. With Bob the more seasoned pro at this point, his drums carry the careening melodies, while Doug's electric-guitar forays furnish the skronked rhythms, a kind of role-reversal that gives this set its terrific texture. I reviewed the original Daily Dance LP in Creem magazine back in 1977, when I called it, "Abstract, but terribly immediate music... Highly Recommended. There's nothing I could add to that capsule now." —Richard Riegel
(Riegel's writings about music have appeared in Creem, the Village Voice, the Washington Post, and other publications, since the 1970's).

GOLEM - Orion Awakes (70s Kraut psych space rock)Label:ACME/ LION Epic early to mid-1970's instrumental psychedelic space-rock from the Pyramid Records archive, said to be pseudonymous after-hours studio sessions featuring the biggest names on the Krautrock scene at the time; heavy drums, jamming guitars and Hammond organ: in short, and amazing improvised free-form trip of impressive magnitude, on par with the music of Krautrock heavyweights like Neu! and Gila. An adventurous atmosphere throughout, whether the result is hallucinogenic and jazzy ('Jupiter'), the heavy freak and roll of 'The Returning,' with crushing guitars and massive, repetitive almost funky rhythm, or the Jimi Hendrix-inspired 'Godhead Dance.' Booklet essay examines the controversy surrounding this and other recordings first made known to the world via Virgin Records' three disc "Unknown Deutschland" series of compilations from the 19901s, including the fact that one "Genius P Orridge" is named as producer of the Golem album. It1s clear enough to all that Genius P Orridge is strangely similar to the name Genesis P Orridge, he of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV fame. The fact that the other names on the Golem album jacket lead nowhere only adds to the confusion. In any case, a deep and fascinating record, still fresh despite the years... and meant to be played loud. 3A space-rockin' hybrid of Gila and instrumental Hendrix type moves, Golem were another band from the lost Pyramid Records archive. Totally instrumental, and a feast for guitar fans... On first listen Golem comes across as a lost classic of Krautrock without a doubt, with a music that blends everything from Neu! to Novalis, and all crammed full of solos.2 ‹Crack in the Cosmic Egg CD $10 SKU:11999
HUMAN ZOO-st (70s garage psych) Label:CICADELIC /lion Along with The Human Expression, The Human Zoo were from the Los Angeles suburbs of Westminster and were signed to Accent Records. Their album, released in 1970 was pressed in limited numbers and has become a rare collectors item. The Human Zoo album is a quirky blend of psychedelic, garage, and funky music. Managed by Jim Foster of The Human Expression and originally called The Circus, the band changed their name to the hipper sounding Human Zoo in 1969. Now for the first time since 1970, here is an exact re-issue of The Human Zoo album, taken from the original master tapes with all album artwork faithfully restored. CD $10 SKU:11893
IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO - Serio 2222 - W 12 PAGE BOOKLET ( Raw-edged heavy rock JIMMY PAGE STYLE ) -Label:LION Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck.Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. CD $10 SKU:16072
IMPI-ST (Rare sole 1971 album by African influenced prog rock band)Label:FRESH Not much information out there about this rare one-off 1971 album (released by CBS back in the day); African influenced progressive rock, by some or all of the members of the South African band the Bats. There are the occasional flashes of pastoral flute/pennywhistle tinged folk mixed with psych guitar, jazz rock brass, soulful vocals and thundering percussion. Comparisons with Vertigo bands Jade Warrior, early Gravy Train and Assegai and bands like Chicago and Greatest Show on Earth. As for the Bats: It all started in 1964 when Eddie Eckstein, Paul Ditchfield, Pete Clifford and the late Barry Jarman, burst onto the local scene and became, to many ardent followers, South Africa's answer to the Beatles. They toured for more than a year (1966) in the UK, sharing the stage with the Kinks, the Troggs, the Zombies, etc. They had a string of successful singles and LPs on CBS, before going through the temporary identity crisis that resulted in the Impi album CD $14 SKU:20404
INDIO - Big Harvest (80 lost classic) Label:PACEMAKER A lost classic. Contains the original version of "Hard Sun", later recorded by Pearl Jam leader Eddie Vedder for the soundtrack to Sean Penn’s film, Into The Wild. Indio is the stage name for Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Peterson who released one album, “Big Harvest,” in 1989, which includes the top 10 hit ‘Hard Sun.’ The album involved high-profile artists, including Bill Dillon and David Rhodes (Peter Gabriel) on guitars. Larry Klein played bass; Brenda Russell sang background vocals, as did Joni Mitchell. Other collaborators included Indian violinist L. Subramaniam. But none of Indio's material charted in the US, “Big Harvest” did not sell up to the record company's (A&M) expectations. Peterson was subsequently dropped from his label and left the business. He remains a reclusive figure to this day. The album is often noted for its message of conservation and spirituality through nature CD $10 SKU:19934
KANSAS CITY JAMMERS - Got Good If You Get It -DBL CD (69-71 electric acid folk !) -Label:LION Recorded between 1969 and 1971 the Kansas City Jammers were a college trio struggling between grades and drugs, the results, psychedelia. A mixture of electric acid folk to out and out rock, songs like "Waiting For The Messiah", "Midnight Watch" and more. CD $10 SKU:16370
LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS & BILLY BIZOR -Wake Up the Dead (60s Electrified Texas blues -DBL Label:CICADELIC Many have said that Lightnin' Hopkins woke up The Dead when he played San Francisco in the 1960's. So it is appropriate that his song 'Wake Up The Dead' is the centerpiece of this two and a half hour journey into the world of electrified Texas blues. Accompanying Lightnin' on this journey is his long time harmonica player, Billy Bizor. While Lightnin' had a prolific recording career—and a massive reputation as a result of some key stunning sessions—Bizor's stature is relatively obscure due to a lack of solo recordings released during his lifetime. Fortunately, "Wake Up The Dead" seeks to rectify that situation by including the complete June 17, 1968 session with Lightnin' and Bizor, plus all of Bizors' 1969 solo recordings. An added bonus is the remainder of of the April 11,1969 session that is represented on the Lightnin' Hopkin's "Shootin Fire" companion release (CICD-41169). The highlight of the session has to be the nine minutes of outtakes of the colossal Hopkins original, 'Mojo Hand". Never before have the complete tapes from these sessions been released. All tracks are taken from the original three and four track masters to accentuate the magical chemistry between Lightnin' and Bizor. CD $12 SKU:20439

LOVE LIVE LIFE + 1- Love Will Make A Better You (Japanese psych) Label:DRONE SYNDICATE Number six on the Japrocksampler Top 50, available again for the first time in over a decade! "Commencing with singer Akira Fuse's goggle-eyed one-day-old-baby innocence, Love Live Life + 1's album opener 'The Question Mark' escorts us through an eighteen-minute free-rock R&B adventure like nothing before or since. Clanking harsher than even the title track of Funkadelic's Free Your Mind & Your Ass Will Follow, and twice as long; cosmic as the Cosmic Joker's Galactic Supermarket, and gnarly as John McLaughlin's out-there-a-minute axe excursions on Miles's 'Right Off'' or his own Devotion solo LP, do these guys fight for their right to party! The mellower second side includes the insanely brilliant eight-minute epic 'Shadows Of My Mind', in which Akira Fuse sings like some drunken Italian baritone, while atonal swooping strings and crazy brass support/undermine him; then it's off into a juggernaut bass-heavy clatter-thon with duel-axe outrage of the highest level. And how about that title track whose catchy bastard licks unashamedly rip Sly's 'I Want To Take You Higher', but still have you singing along with Fuse? The record closes brilliantly with the demented 'Facts About It All', which opens like Fuse laying a grunting 6/8 James Brown/Eric Burdon ballad on us. But no, this miniature R&B opera says in 2 minutes and 56 seconds what prog bands took a whole side to say. All hail visionary genius Ikuzo Orita for uniting his fave guitarist Kimio Mizutani with the errant free-jazz Gibson 335 of Takao Naoi, whose brittle spittle pops permanent wheelies around these slippery rhythm tracks. Also hail Orita for recognizing the genius of these songs of sax player Kei Ichihara, for trusting Akira Fuse's professionalism and open-mindedness, and for seeing this 33-minute-long classic to its unlikely conclusion." CD $10 SKU:10256
MAINLINE (McKenna Mendelson- Canada - Our Home and Native land (ball-busting blues Label:PACEMAKER A great big ball-busting blues album with some great harmonica, a lot of killer slide guitar and lyrics that, while not exactly profound, seem to fit right in with the rowdy nature of the album as a whole. The album starts with 'Blind Girl' a song that sounds like it could have been recorded by The Who or Zeppelin. This makes complete sense once you know that Mainline actually had its first big successes in England playing the same clubs at the same time as those monoliths of the English rock scene. The rest of the album touches on all sorts of different aspects of the blues, from the twangy almost country sound of "Get Down To" to the 8 minute long extended jam on "Going to Toronto" with some great dirty guitar playing. This album is full of energy — think of this album as a rowdy house party. CD $10 SKU:19938
MCKENNA MENDELSON BLUES- ST (bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968) -Label:PACEMAKER Another great album from Canada's legendary Paragon label, a set of super bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968; the band’s album “Stink” was received not just as a great album of electric blues, but as some sort of revelation when it appeared in the second half of 1969. Lead guitarist Mike McKenna spent time ('67-'68) in the Ugly Ducklings, but he had already developed a 'local hero' tag by playing hard electric blues as a member of the legendary Luke and the Apostles. Together, he and Joe Mendelson made arrestingly earthy music, which soon attracted another of Toronto's rock gods of the day, bassist Denny Gerrard from the Paupers, whose legendary talents had served him well on the stage of the Monterey Pop Festival, where his work with the Paupers was (and still is) considered a highlight. The material included on this disc, which was demo material that now the band claim was “bootegged” by the legitimate Paragon label (a little revisionist history, perhaps?), is arguably even more rare and interesting than that on their classic McKenna Mendelson Mainline "Stink" album. MICHAEL ANGELO - DBL CD w S/T" (Guinn Sessions) + "Sorcerer's Dream" + "Nuts" -Label:LION Stunning work from Michael Angelo – a little-known singer/songwriter from the Kansas City scene of the late 70s – one with a style that's totally great, but way too off the era's chronological expectations to get much notice at the time! Michael's music has a real late 60s vibe – some of the trippier folk modes of someone like Donovan, but mixed with the more complete songwriting of an artist like Nilsson or some of the hipper LA writers of the late 60s – all recorded in this laidback, understated way – especially for the 70s – with acoustic guitar most strongly in the mix, and a few other light rhythm touches and keyboards. The production's sharper than folk, but not much more so – and the music here is a great reminder that while we can look at the rock and roll timeline, and think that the punk explosion of the mid 70s was changing everything at once – out in the hinterlands there were still folks like Angelo who were dedicated to refining an older craft. The CD features a huge amount of material – the full original self-titled album, more tracks from those sessions, and a full second album recorded around the same time. 32 tracks on 2CDs, with lots of notes too – and titles that include "Field Of Lonely Eyes", "Future", "Journey To Find Who We Are", "Russian Lament", "Nubian Queen", "This Is The Night", "Love Is Too High", "Spirits Of Mercury", and "SOS Titanic CD $10 SKU:16805

MUNSON ,ALAN -First light (70s Calif laid back psych) Label:GUERSSEN And here’s the last of the 70’s works by our friend Munson! This one got released in 1979, again in small quantities, on the Parallax label in California. The “First light” album doesn’t easily fit into a music category box. The songs range from psych rock, to some fairly laid back folk-rock, and even a song with a country rock feel. Instruments played on the record include electric and acoustic guitars, electric bass and drums. Lead solos are all played on electric guitar; a clean sound on the acoustic based songs and guitar effects were used on the psych rock songs. Strong lead vocals and background harmony vocals, making this another excellent album as a result. Also one unreleased bonus track is added, all remastered from the original tapes. First time ever reissue as well; comes with a booklet, and outer carton slimcase CD $10 SKU:20126
NATIONAL WAKE- ST (80s South African punk)Label:FRESH The scene for developing free-thinking rock music in South Africa was a struggle against social and political barriers unlike any place else in the world at that time, except perhaps for the Eastern Block countries then under the thumb of USSR era communism. This is a story of struggle, the sum total of which reaches far beyond the music: National Wake, the band Ian Kadey led in the late 70s and early 80s, were South Africa's first, and indeed only, multiracial punk band. And yet Kadey had kept this unique story to himself, partly because he thought no one was interested (National Wake split in 1982 just after putting out their solitary release, an album of which only 500 copies were pressed), but also, Kadey says, because "it was too painful for me, so I just buried it". The band's two black members, brothers Gary and Punka Khoza had subsequently died: the former had struggled with mental illness and killed himself; the latter died from an Aids-related illness. " Kadey formed National Wake in the aftermath of the Soweto uprising of 1976 – "one of the conditions of living in a repressive state like that is that it just seems impossible to do anything about it, there's a kind of paralysis, but that was a real 'get up, stand up' moment: look at these kids, it's time to take up the fight" – their sound influenced by British and American punk and Bob Marley. If the South African authorities had somehow managed to overlook Bob Marley, they didn't miss National Wake, whose songs didn't exactly cloak their political message in layers of impenetrable metaphor. In three minutes, the band's signature tune 'International News' manages to decry state censorship, the war in Angola and what guitarist Steve Moni calls "the ostrich life of suburban South Africa, just spending your time deliberately trying not to notice things". They seem to have been viewed with a certain awe even by rival punk bands: "They had an aura, like wanted men," says Michael Flek, frontman of South Africa's first punk band Wild Youth. "When they showed up it was like the revolutionaries had arrived” CD $14 SKU:20406
ODYSSEY- Live at Levittown Memorial Auditorium: 1974- Label:LION A live recording that was never really meant to be, recorded by Odyssey’s sound engineer on a portable cassette recorder, and recently unearthed! “Live at Levittown” is the only document of Odyssey as they were in their progressive phase, just before Fred Callan and sometime Odyssey keyboardist Tom Doncourt recorded their legendary album as Cathedral. Bonus tracks include three “basement recordings” from the “Setting Forth” era—two untitled originals that never made the album, plus the band’s version of "Whiter Shade of Pale". These three tracks have been salvaged as well as possible from the cassette that is the only recorded evidence of these songs. Important note: this disc is not audiophile quality sound! despite our best efforts, it’s rough sounding, but we think that you’ll find it well worth listening to, despite the source limitations. Twelve-page booklet has a continuation of the Odyssey story by band leader Vinny Kusy, as well as rare photos from his own archive. CD $10 SKU:19980
ROMANOS,GEORGE- Two Small Blue Horses (1970 Greek heavy fpsych fuzz guitar) SAALE! -Label:LYRA (Greece) If you like the thought of songs overrun by heavy fuzz guitars and immersed in studio effects, then this is an album for you! It’s a record (released by Zodiac in 1970) that bears comparison to the first three Erkin Koray albums, in part due to it’s Middle-Eastern psychedelic intensity; really great stuff—exotic melodies coupled with a full-force fuzz assault; a slight nod to the Byrds (‘Eight Miles High’ riff makes a dramatic appearance), but with baroque pop/psych tracks of a Left Banke type (‘Maria’ springs to mind) thrown in for added spice. Infused throughout with Greek-tinged raga fuzz guitar freakouts that float in and out of orchestrated psychy pop, "Two Small Blue Horses" is a gem of an album that should be in any serious European psych collection. To top it all, this is one of the rarest psychedelic records ever pressed, with original copies changing hands from time to time for more than $1,000. Great sounding reissue of a weird and wonderful record.

SEOMPI-Guns in the Skies(the Black Sabbath of Texas, psych rock) Label:CICADELIC RECORDS (USA) “While releasing only three singles in the early 1970's, Seompi's mystique has continued to grow through the ensuing decades. Three posthumous releases issued in the late 1990's only added to Seompi's aura—even though two were off speed and the third has been long out of print. This was the status quo for the past couple of decades until now with the release of "Guns In The Skies". Starting off with the hard rocker "AWOL" and then spacing out with the fourteen minute unreleased opus titled "Synergy Squares", Seompi takes you on a trip back to 1971 when Austin, Texas was the stomping ground for their brand of Psychedelic Space Rock. SHOTGUN -Dallasian Rock( Led Zep style 70s hard rock )Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) A blend of hard hitting riff rock á la early Led Zeppelin and James Gang, with a guitar attack reminiscent of bands like Leafhound or Edgar Broughton Band. Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage and soaring, soulful vocals, punchy bass and solid drumming make for a memorable set of songs that you won't soon forget. Shotgun had a successful career in and around Dallas, TX between 1974 and 1977, playing the club circuit and recording at the cities best studios. Sadly, nothing ever came of the recording sessions and Shotgun eventually morphed into VIZION, which released an album in 1980 that featured the vocals of Jan Houston. Finally after more than 38 years, Shotgun's long lost studio sessions are presented for the first time ever on LP as they were meant to be heard. The CD versions includes eleven additional bonus tracks. The most amazing thing about these tracks is how they remained on the shelf all these years! •Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage. •Previously unreleased vintage studio tracks from the 1970's CD $10 SKU:19956
SUN ALSO RISES - ST (Superb 70s Brit acid psych folk) Label:LION Superb sought-after 1970 British acid folk rarity from the Village Thing label. The Sun Also Rises is another case of a folk/psych duo (we’re thinking of Emtidi, whose “Saat” album we have also reissued) who virtually disappeared in the flesh, once they had left behind a small but fascinating recorded legacy. The sole Sun Also Rises album has been reissued (legally and illegally) on several occasions, a testament to continuing interest in the music contained therein. Who were they? They were Graham and Anne Hemingway from Cardiff, described everywhere as a mystical, magical hippie female and male folk duo, who played guitars, dulcimer, glockenspiel, vibes, bells, kazoo, percussion—joined throughout by label-mate John Turner (bowed and finger-picked string bass), and Andy Leggett. Their one and only album is very much in the creative style and delivery of the Incredible String Band, with similarities to the work of their contemporaries Dr. Strangely Strange, COB, Comus, Forest and Tir Na Nog, as well as others of the original freak-folk brigade. The results of their efforts were tripped-out, spellbinding, esoteric folk collages—songs of wizards and dragons, dreams and intentions, love, flickering candlelight, the sweet scent of half-remembered summers, death, jasmine, and suicide. We hope that this album will come as a wonderful surprise for lovers of the Incredible String Band and their ilk, as there were few bands that were able to stray into this much loved and much loathed world of fantasy and folk music, and live to tell the tale. Our Lion Productions edition comes with a 16-page booklet printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy, which contains a small dose of band info, album lyrics, histories of the Village Thing and Saydisc labels by co-founder Gef Lucena, as well as a Village Thing label discography. TONE FLOAT - Musik Von Tone Float (Texas psych/Krautrock inspired)-Label:TIMOTHYS BRAIN A sonic portfolio of the Texas psych/Krautrock inspired scene it represents, but also an homage to the heavily lysergic first Kraftwerk album under the name Organisation; as the rave review in Alternative Press rightly pointed out, "words cannot do justice to the utterly outlandish studio experiments Tone Float achieve here." And quite rightly, AP are quick to praise the "sonic sorcery" that pervades these cosmic corridor wanderings, this "sublimely demented carnival music." CD $10 SKU:19940
YAMA & the Karma Dusters-Up From the Sewers (1970 quintessential anarcho-hippie record)-Label:LION Super political, rocking, anti-establishment communal band (c. 1970) put together as a result of the Kent State Massacre. As the Euphoria Blimpworks Banlion
d, fronted by Howard Berkman from morose garage punksters the Knaves, they played demonstrations and student strikes when they weren’t opening for blues royalty—or being the first band to play the yard at Cook County Jail. They were inter-racial, anti-war, Stop the Bomb, free love hippies, the wildest of the wild kids. And this is the quintessential anarcho-hippie record, a surprisingly well-engineered indie effort which came inside home-made silk-screened jackets, with twisted, poetic lyrics (Dylan or Arthur Lee and Love? you decide), and funky, rocking bones—political, sociological, ecological, reflective and free-love sexy. The Karma Dusters really cook on the up-tempo tracks, sounding at times like a cross between The Blues Project and Dylan's band circa 1966, augmented by some dazzling violin. This excellent sounding master-tape reissue has two bonus tracks; it also has two booklets—one is for the outrageous and explicit Gonzo history of the band and their urban commune; the other is a wrap-around booklet for lyrics, all served up together in a Mylar plastic sleeve. You just know the FBI has a huge file on these punks. But do they have the CD $10 SKU:20098

REVOLUTION -Teen Time In Corpus Christi (1966 Texas garage) -Label:CICADELIC In 1966, famed lead guitarist Rod Prince (later of Bubble Puppy) re-wrote the 13th Floor Elevators' song 'Tried To Hide' as 'All Night Long' and released it with the Bad Seeds as their third single. They were the number one band at the time in Corpus Christi. Although 'All Night Long' would beat the Elevators' 'Tried To Hide' (on International Artists) to the market, the Bad Seeds disbanded in the summer of 1966 and other renowned Corpus bands would follow in their footsteps, most scoring top ten hits on the way: Four more with the ultra-rare single 'Problem Child' b/w 'Don't Give Up Hope'. The Zakary Thaks with 'Bad Girl' and 'Face To Face'. The Liberty Bell with 'The Nazz Are Blue' and 'For What You Lack'. The Buckle with 'Baroque Rock' on 'I've Got Something On My Mind'. Folk-rock singer Michael backed by The Zakary Thaks on all three of his singles, sounding more like a 1966 era Bob Lind than Bob Lind. And Kubla Khan singing about changin' times in 'Revolution' and pondering whether 'the brown grass will be legalized'. Memorabilia such as top 30 radio surveys, rare photos, news articles from the era, interviews with band members, sixteen page booklet, and twenty-eight tracks (including previously unreleased recordings) combine to make this a trip back to the '60s, when a revolution in sound was happening in Corpus Christi, Texas."
