NEW ARRIVALS
LYRES- Lucky-LTD ED 7x7"+CD BOX (DMZ)Label:MUNSTER Formed in Boston in the late '70s from the ashes of the legendary DMZ, Lyres are one of the truly essential garage bands -- and the seven 7"s (and CD) contained in this boxed set clearly prove why. Featuring 16 tracks spanning 1979 to 1991, they're loaded with sound, attitude, and a way of making music not found around too often. This set includes the contents of Lyres' never-unreleased first acetate, recorded live and pressed by the band only two weeks after their first rehearsal. Their amazing debut 7" on Sounds Interesting Records is presented with facsimile artwork, as are a string of magnificent tracks the band recorded during the 1980s for Boston's Ace of Hearts Records, run by Rick Harte, who also produced the recordings. Tracks such as "Buried Alive," "Help You Ann," "I Really Want You Right Now," "She Pays The Rent," "Not Looking Back," and other staples of the 1980s rock and roll scene show the band (and its varying line-ups) at the top of their game. Includes 20-page booklet with photos and liner notes by Lyres organist and vocalist Jeff Conolly. Limited edition of 700. 45 RPM $62 SKU:18451
CROMWELL -At The Gallop(proto-metal infused street rock)-Label:GOT KINDA LOST RECORDS (Spain) originally released in 1975. Self-released in 1975 by the Drumcondra, Dublin-based Cromwell, At The Gallop is a blistering, heavy, loud n' lascivious ten-track offering (thirteen in this expanded edition) of proto-metal infused street rock n' roll from a time when Ireland was still under the sway of conservative showbands, quasi-religious, sentimental pop pap and traditional Irish music. Despite their cultural struggles, Cromwell crafted a creative and compact catalog - five fuzzed n' ferocious 45s and this foot-long - led by co-vocalist/bassist Michael Kiely's come-hither coo and fey Jagger pose n' preen, the in-the-pocket drumming of Derek Dawson and minor-guitar hero moves of Patrick Brady, exercising taste, talent and towering mountains of fuzz n' fury as comfortably as greasy '70s raunch and rural modes. At The Gallop is a rare, little-heard classic in the pub/fried rock n' roll/proto-punk terrain. RIYL: Teenage Head, Flamingo-era Flamin' Groovies, Mott The Hoople, '70s Rolling Stones, pre-punk American street rock, and the Bonehead Crunchers series. Includes three bonus tracks from the group's rare singles; Includes an insert featuring rare photos and in-depth liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Got Kinda Lost Records, Ugly Things Magazine). CD $18 SKU:18449

HEAT EXCHANGE- Reminiscence(70S HARD ROCK/PSYCH) Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Remastered sound; Insert with detailed liner notes and photos, including an introduction by Rich Sheppard (After The Sabbath). Formed in Toronto, Canada, in the late '60s, Heat Exchange are known for their three fantastic 45s for the Yorkville label - released in the early '70s - on which they mixed hard rock with psychedelic, heavy progressive and funk-rock sounds. So, it's a major surprise that in 1972, the band recorded more stuff with the intention of releasing an album. But in the end, the album deal fell through and only four of those tracks were released as part of their 45s. Soon after, the band disbanded. Luckily, the band members have kept a copy of the master tape all these years. So, presented here for the first time ever are the complete Heat Exchange studio recordings, including their three 45s plus the previously unreleased recordings they recorded in 1972 for their never-released LP. Fabulous UK-sounding, heavy progressive, and psychedelic hard rock with top-level musicianship, well-constructed songs, powerful vocals, sax, flute, wah-wah, organ, and a solid rhythm section. RIYL: King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Samurai (UK), Web's I Spider (1970), Human Beast, Deep Purple. LP $29 SKU:18453
MODULATORS- Tomorrow's Coming (quintessential 80's power pop)Label:MANUFACTURED RECORDINGS Formed in 1980, New Jersey's the Modulators are one of the unsung greats of the American power pop scene. Initially the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Joe Riccardello with help from producer/lyricist (and Vintage Vinyl Records owner) Rob Roth, Ricardello released his first single Girl Trouble in 1980 just before bringing on friends Mark Higgins (guitar) and Mark 'Cakes' Westlake (drums) to join the band. As a fully-formed trio, the Modulators began playing out across New Jersey in the early 80's and recorded tracks for two local compilations and the band's second, enduring single She's So Cynical in 1982. Live gigs and songwriting continued, with the band often writing and recording more material than their release schedule could keep up with. Finally in 1984, the band released their first and only LP, Tomorrow's Coming on Roth's Vintage Vinyl Records. Full of timeless gems and quintessential 80's power pop anthems, the record is now regarded as a genre classic by power pop collectors. Tracks like 'Spin Me Around,' 'If You Let Her Go,' and 'Lost Without a Sound' display the Modulators' smart songwriting, catchy hooks, and effortless pop sensibility. Though the band continued to play the tri-state area until 1986 (and every now and then since), Tomorrow's Coming was the Modulator's last vinyl release. Bringing together the band's entire discography with an additional 14 unreleased songs and demo tracks and liner notes from power pop collector Steve Borchardt, Manufactured Recordings is proud to present the definitive release of this power pop classic. LP $24 SKU:18450

MANDRAKE MEMORIAL:-3 Part Inventions (60s psych)Label:FLASHBACK (UK) Having made two superb psychedelic albums and gigged with The Doors, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground and many others, in June of 1969, The Mandrake Memorial came to London. The plan was to record with famed producer Shel Talmy (The Kinks, The Who, Pentangle), but when that fell through, they persevered alone. Long thought to be lost, 3 Part Inventions anticipates the woozy, dream-like vibe of their 1970 masterpiece Puzzle, combining eerie vocals, trippy guitar and otherworldly electronics to create a unique whole.
