AKBAYRAM, EDIP-ST- (70s Turkish fuzz) Label:PHARAWAY SOUNDS Edip Akbayram's a frail guy who spent his childhood unable to walk, but once he grew up he was on Istanbul TV in a whitey-fro and knee length colored robes. Akbayram's voice is big & open, and it took him all across Turkey at the height of Anatolian psychedelia. This 1st album collects precious singles from 1972-74, with dark melodies that descend in loose spirals, seemingly forever. Tunes taken from mystic Sufi poets who played the baglama, but retrofitted with hard plowing electric bass lines, funky drums, fuzz-wah guitars and keyboards. ASHTON,GARDNER,DYKE & CO -WHAT A BLOODY LONG DAY IT'S BEEN(70s Brit power rock trio)-Label:GONZO Power rock three-piece Ashton, Gardner, Dyke & Co. is best remembered for the 1971 single 'Resurrection Shuffle', which reached the charts in various countries. Organ player and vocalist Tony Ashton and drummer Roy Dyke were ex-members of the legendary Remo Four while Kim Gardener had spent time with The Birds and Creation. Dominated by Hendrix-esque lead guitar and powerful bass and drums, the original LP was privately issued in a plain white sleeve in 1973 apparently in 99 copies, and now finally sees a reissue. COOLEY MUNSON- In Debt (70s So Cal. hippie psych ) -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS Bill Cooley and Alan Munson were two friends in Santa Barbara, California, living their early 20s writing folk-rock songs for their pleasure. That was 1972, and they decided to put these songs into the studio, self-produce the album and press a tiny quantity of 500 pieces hoping it could help getting a contract with a major company. This never happened, as you would have guessed, and sure this fact helped making their sole album, In Debt, a major collectable item in the folk-rock and psychedelic rock listeners and collectors. Today, original copies of this record fetch quite interesting sums when changing hands in record fairs or internet auctions. Being a private pressing, you can easily imagine it's not a big production, but no care. This album has the right feel and you won't need anything else to make it one of your faves. All tracks are original compositions, and the style is very personal. It's folk-rock, but many tracks are quite psychedelic too, in their own way. But don't look close for influences, they will not come to mind that easily. Bill and Alan had their own psychedelic folk-rock style, and the raw, sometimes amateurish feel that these recordings have give the album the final distinctive touch. Never reissued before in any format, now here we come with a splendid reissue, with the collaboration of the guys. Remastered sound taken from the master tapes, CD version comes with booklet and outer slimcase. Alan Munson kept going the folk-rock way and released two solo albums during the '70s too, which we are also re-releasing along with In Debt. CD $14 SKU:25186

JOSIAH-PROCESSION(Blue Cheer style heavy psych)Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS Reissue of Josiah's fourth album from 2009. "Those who've experienced Josiah's groove-heavy swagger know that it's the guitar of Mat Bethancourt in the starring role, but this trio relies almost as much on the backing rhythms on 'Procession.' Blink and you'll miss the first two tracks, 'Procession' and 'Broken Doll," both of which are under two and a half minutes, but for the other three cuts of studio material ('Thirteen Scene,' highlight 'Dying Day' and the more garage rock 'Dead Forever'), it's just as much Beacom and Beasley's show as it is Bethancourt's. That would be the end if not for the five live tracks from Josiah's Swedish run in 2007. Four out of the five - 'Looking At The Mountain,' 'Time To Kill,' 'Silas Brainchild' and closer 'I Can't Seem To Find It' - come from the band's final recorded full-length, 'No Time,' and only 'Malpaso,' reaches back further, having first appeared on the 2001 10" 'Out Of The First Rays.' Not that we needed it by this time, but these live versions are basically just further confirmation of what underground rock lost with Josiah. LES CALAMITES - ENCORE! (80s Go Go style!)? Label:BORN BAD French band The Calamités consisted of three teenage friends, Caroline, Isabelle and Odile from Beaune, Burgundy. The band was formed in the early '80s and soon they recorded their debut album 'A Bride Abattue' released on the label New Rose. They made it to an appearance on regional and then national television, and their sound was compared tot he U.S. female band The Go-Go's. When all the doors in the music industry seemed to be wide open, they decided to focus on their studies instead. Caroline quit the band, while Odile and Isabelle once again released another hit single: 'Vélomoteur' produced by Daniel Chenevez, one half of the succesful pop duo Niagara. What remained is a dozen of recordings, earlier reissued on the label Last Call, affiliated to its parent label New Rose, a number of TV appearances on video hubs and a thorough fansite. All this to remember one of the most poppy sounding French girl-punk bands, with a talent for writing a handful of good songs turned into classics. And that is a rare gift. CD $18 SKU:25195

Keith Moon raved about them, they were known for their live reputation. Karakorums sonic inner space inevitably conjures up images of heavy cannabis and marijuana usage. The band lock into darkly introverted grooves, with complex patterns, eastern influences, and left field lyricism and vocal, heavy guitar led tracks and the use of wah-wah. King Bee was Fred Cole's late '70s band, and their music occupied an important position in Fred's development as a songwriter. This often-overlooked part of Fred's career saw him combining elements of his '60s roots with this new sound called punk rock, and it was this synthesis of styles which led to the Rats, and, eventually, to the creation of Dead Moon. These missing gems are being made available here for the first time ever, recovered from archived tapes, carefully restored and mastered. OUTSIDERS (UK) --CALLING ON YOUTH (1977 glam punk)-Label:1972 Before fronting classic post-punk group The Sound, Adrian Borland was a Wimbledon teenager enamored of Iggy Pop and the Velvet Underground. With friends, he formed The Outsiders. In 1976, they home-recorded 'Calling On Youth', a searching full-length that straddles nihilo-punk argot as well as smudged glam balladry. Its release in 1977, on the group's own Raw Edge label, with Borland's cityscape abstraction on the cover, marked the first independent punk full-length in the United Kingdom. 'Calling On Youth' announces Borland as more than a precious teenage bandleader. The nervous introspection, wiry leads and negative space that he would refine solo and in The Sound, Second Layer and Witch Trials glistens throughout 'Calling On Youth', beckoning rediscovery. Blind Owl Wilson was a truly great guitarist and vocalist whose deep well of psychedelic blues songs were buried amongst the catalog of major label rockin' blues band Canned Heat. A couple of those songs became huge hits in the '60s - 'Going Up The Country' and 'On The Road Again'.
