ST ALBERT’S DREAM Volume 3: The Alchemist's Phormula"-PREORDER egendary deep underground South African heavy acid rock / proto-doom recordings from 1969! Label:Lysergic Sound Distributors The third release in the highly acclaimed St. Albert’s Dream series once again brings you some of the rarest and most obscure underground psychedelic cuts from 1968-1972. This time round, the Alchemist has mixed a “phormula” to take you on a deep underground trip of fuzzed-out psychedelic intensity, by creating elixirs of chemical-based sounds to remedy your psychedelic needs. You’ll hear a morbid swirling organ and guitar-driven tale of love lost from Mississippi’s FLOWER POWER, heavy powerful drumming and guitar intensity from Missouri’s SOUND COMPANY — and an insane twelve minute+ fuzz and effect-laden acid freak out by THE OLIVERS from Indiana. The remaining six cuts are just as heavy, with as much fuzz, effects, psychedelic sounds and ‘acidity’ as you can handle. The nine cuts here have been remastered from micro-pressed 45’s, original unreleased master tapes, and one never-produced acetate.
Created from the depths of the 60’s and 70’s underground by and for lovers of the mega-heavy and ultra-obscure sounds of that magical era.
•Much anticipated follow up to the two previous highly rated “St. Albert’s Dream” volumes from 2013 and 2021
•Includes a 12-page booklet with details, histories and rare pictures of the bands and the original 45’s.
•Limited vinyl pressing of 600x copies
Praise for the long out-of-print first volume of St. Albert’s Dream — while noting that Vol. 2 is even higher rated, and is the highest rated release on Lysergic Sounds!:
"This latest collection is virtually entirely psychedelic hard rock, most of it ultra heavy, and all with oodles of fuzz guitar… Several of these bands are so hopelessly obscure that I have never even heard of them… I was completely bowled over, and can't recommend this enough. Consider it essential!” — Review by tymeshifter
"Mandatory compilation containing no fillers and fiercely representative of my beloved heavy psychedelic genre. Crude, raw and uncompromising, what else?” — GAZHOO117, rateyourmusic
"This is a fantastic compilation of obscure 45's, and unreleased archival material. No duff tracks, everything in the pocket as it were. This to me anyway, is the perfect type of compilation. All non album tracks, superb music, and all very hard to find.” — ashratom LP $22 SKU:27311
NEW ARRIVALS
ACDC BONFIRE BOX SET Label:EPIC NOTE: Unsealed. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP Bonfire is a 5 disc box set by the Australian band AC/DC, released in 1997, and remastered with a release in Digipak format in 2003. It was created as a tribute to the band's earlier singer Bon Scott and included the two disc soundtrack to the movie Let There be Rock, some early unreleased tracks, a live recording from the Atlantic Records studio in New York and a remastered version of Back in Black. The box set was originally released in 1997 with the CDs all packaged individually in jewel cases, complete with full artwork. The original issue also features a poster, a backstage pass, keyring and a few other extras depending on the region. When the album was reissued in 2003 it was packaged in a large digipak, similar to a longbox, which featured either 4 or 5 disc trays. The 4-tray versions contained the remastered Back in Black in its own case with booklet. All versions of the box feature a large book full of liner notes and rare pictures of the band, mostly from before Scott's death. $30 SKU:27306
PHIL OCHS - FAREWELL FANTASIES - 3 CD BOX SET WITH BOOKLET Label:WEA/RHINO NOTE: Unsealed. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP Among folk legends, the late Phil Ochs is nearly peerless. His dozen years as a ringing voice in the war against social and political injustice left the world with a wealth of music and lyrics that remain powerful and in some cases topical more than 30 years after he recorded them. Joined by the likes of Ry Cooder, Clydie King, Jack Elliott, Van Dyke Parks, Don Rich, and Tom Scott, Ochs created a legacy of words and music that continues to drive the spirit of social conscience in musicians like Billy Bragg, Natalie Merchant, and Ani DiFranco. This 3 CD set collects the work he did at Elektra, A&M, and Folkways between 1964 and 1975, as well as several previously unreleased tracks. It chronicles not just an era when music and politics often clashed, but also one spiritual man's sojourn from rebellion and activism to depression and despair. --L.A. Smith $35 SKU:27307
SOUL SPECTACULAR - THE GREATEST SOUL HITS OF ALL TIME - 4CD BOX SET WITH BOOKLET Label:WEA/RHINO NOTE: Unsealed. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP "The Greatest Soul Hits Of All Time" is a pretty ambitious claim for this one to make -- but the 4CD set is chock-full of some of the best known soul tunes of the 60s and 70s -- wrapped up in the usual Rhino Records flair for making the commonplace seem special! There's a total of 90 tracks in all on the set -- and if ever you wanted a compilation that would give you the best of soul oldies radio, this is it! Titles include "My Guy" by Mary Wells, "Please Mr Postman" by The Marvelettes, "Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley, "Soul Man" by Sam & Dave, "Soulful Strut" by Young Holt Unlimited, "Cowboys To Girls" by The Intruders, "We Got More Soul" by Dyke & The Blazers, "Just One Look" by Doris Troy, "The Monkey Time" by Major Lance, "Sunny" by Bobby Hebb, "Rescue Me" by Fontella Bass, "Rainy Night In Georgia" by Brook Benton, "Tell It Like It Is" by Aaron Neville, "Dark End Of The Street" by James Carr, "Groove Me" by King Floyd, "One Of A Kind Love Affair" by The Spinners, "I Want You Back" by Jackson 5, "Kiss & Say Goodbye" by The Manhattans, and lots lots more! The tunes go from about 1960 up to the mid 70s -- with a bit of Motown, a bit of Atlantic soul, a bit of Chicago, and a bit of funk! © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.eviously unreleased tracks. It chronicles not just an era when music and politics often clashed, but also one spiritual man's sojourn from rebellion and activism to depression and despair. --L.A. Smith $40 SKU:27308
BEAT GENERATION - 3 CD BOX WITH BOOKLET Label:RHINO WORD BEAT NOTE: Unsealed. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP REVIEW What I love about the Beat Generation Box Set is that in addition to serving as a great social portrait of the era, as well as hipster culture, throughout it maintains a sense of humor and focuses on its strange relationship and rivalry with American pop culture. Beyond mere literary readings, a colorful cast of charactors make the scene... from beboppers to hipsters, bongo beating philosophers to comedians and pop icons arise. One track might be Annie Ross's bebopistic tribute to Schizophrenia "Twisted", the next a recitation by Lord Buckley or Ken Nordine - in other tracks, square singers try to cash in on bebop and hipster culture... reporters go out on the streets of Greenwich village in search of America's lost youth, while others show beat generation icons in action from Dizzy Gillespie to Slim Galliard and Ray Brown Jr. - - Cuts from the rare, "How to Speak Hip" and even Lenny Bruce's Psychopathia Sexualis (I'm in Love With a Horse That Comes from Dallas) appear.
While by no means comprehensive, the three CDs along with the illustrated booklet are not only educational but incredibly entertaining. CD $25 SKU:27304
CURTIS MAYFIELD STORY-PEOPLE GET READY - 3 CD BOX WITH BOOKLET Label:RHINO NOTE: Unsealed. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP How many harmony groups took their cue from the Impressions? How many songwriters forged a worldview from the compassionate commentary penned by Curtis Mayfield, the group's mouthpiece? People Get Ready! The Curtis Mayfield Story is a three-disc celebration of the immeasurably influential singer, songwriter, and guitarist as an Impression and as a solo artist. People tend to associate him with Superfly, the seminal blaxploitation flick for which he composed the groundbreaking score. What's striking, however, is how timely Mayfield remained over the course of three and a half decades. Want to understand the mind of a middle-aged African American who's lived through Jim Crow, the civil rights, Vietnam, black power, street crime, homelessness, and even crippling injury (Mayfield was paralyzed in the early '90s)? Listen to these discs. What's striking, though, is that, through all that, he never stopped writing love songs. --Steven Stolder CD $25 SKU:27303
LES PLAYBOYS- Abracadabrantesque - FRENCH BEAT PUNK 60S STYLE- Label:TEEN SOUND LES PLAYBOYS are a true legend in France, starting in the late 60's and growing up in the 70's with the obvious mix of beat and punk influences. They have a solid songwriting and gained respect and a guge following. They are the French Beat and the stage legends CD $12 SKU:27318
LOS IMMEDIATOS- SECOND CHANCE - SPANISH 60S REVIVAL STYLE- Label:TEEN SOUND Los Immediatos are a sort of a Spanish '60s revival supergroup. The variety of sounds clearly shows that each of them has been digging throughout the beloved decade for some time now, knowing their basic r'n'b, just as good as they know their popsike. However, the ones that my own needle keeps coming back to, are the Graham Gouldman-like minor chord beat of 'Something's Wrong With You', the 12-string Mersey jangle of 'Everybody Knows' (on par with The Gants' genre-defining classic 'I Wonder', which they cover here as well), or 'Sad About Me, Sad About Us', having more similarities to the early Who than the title itself. CD $12 SKU:27317
RAY CHARLES BIRTH OF SOUL BOX SET- 3 CD BOX WITH BOOKLET Label:ATLANTIC NOTE: Unsealed. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP Though this is not the most recent Ray Charles box set collection, it may be the best. That's because it focuses on Ray's great growth in the 1950s, particularly his days with Atlantic Records. The set opens with Ray still in a Charles Brown, smooth-voice, mellow-piano mode, but in short order, he discovers his own identity. From the good time of "It Should Have Been Me" on disc one, though the orgiastic "What'd I Say, Parts 1 & 2" on disc three, the man they call "The Genius" rocks, rolls, raises the rafters, and sinks way down low with the blues. This box also features an excellent essay by the late music historian, Robert Palmer. --Robert Gordon CD $15 SKU:27302
THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT - ULTIMATE ANTHOLOGY OF MGM MUSICALS - 3 CD BOX WITH BOOKLET Label:RHINO WORD BEAT NOTE: Unsealed. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP Six individual jewel cases, inside two three-disc slipcases, inside a 6" x 10.25" heavyweight open-ended box with a 96pp. squarebound 5.5" x 10" booklet. Features Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Lena Horne, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Clark Gable, Groucho Marx, and more! CD $25 SKU:27305

CRASH COFFIN - ST ( 73 Folk/Psych gem ) -Label:MISSING VINYL From the ashes of the mythical Argentine duo Sandhy & Mandhy—who recorded in 1969 the intensely rare and beloved album “Para Castukis” (reissued by Lion Productions on vinyl and CD), a record suffused with beat and psychedelic influences—comes this resurrection by Mandhy of his "Celestial Stories." Alberto Vanasco Jr. (Mandhy) resumes his musical tale with twelve tracks written between 1968 and 1978. Recorded with the analogue essence and sound of the 70s, using vintage instruments like Farfisa and Hammond organ, and fuzz guitar. Features Argentine rock legends Nexus as the backing band. A record which brings together all of the various crucial elements of Argentine rock music: psychedelia, heavy blues, classic rock, and progressive rock. Stunning LP $15 SKU:10991
DASZU-Zone of Swans/Lucid Actual + 1/2 Dativa(underground post-punk 79-83)- SAALE Label:LION with 8 page insert booklet. Unlike earlier Daszu music, Lucid Actual 2000 was digitally constructed and edited from recordings and generated loops for use in live interactive 3D performances: many of them were performed at a Digital Electronics Festival in Montreal in 1999. The introduction of a visual element into the mathematical minimalist world of Daszu composer Mark Rudolph allowed for a more ambient, repetitive, suggestive—and danceable—style.. LP $15 SKU:22093
FOX- For Fox Sake (1970 UK PSYCH ZOMBIES STYLE)- SAALELabel:SOMMER Originally released in 1970 but sounding more akin to ‘67-68, “For Fox Sake” is a superb example of UK psych, highly recommended if you’re into APPLE, KOOBAS, ZOMBIES, OCTOPUS, SKIP BIFFERTY, SPENCER DAVIS GROUP, RUBBLES. First ever vinyl reissue with original UK artwork. Remastered sound and insert with photos / memorabilia plus liner notes by band member Steve Brayne. Formed in Brighton in 1968 with roots to the mod-soul scene, The Fox consisted of Steve (Stephen) Brayne on lead guitar & vocals, Winston Weatherill (ex-Gary Farr & The T-Bones) on lead guitar & sitar, Alex Lane on keyboards & vocals, Tim Reeves on drums and Dave Windross on bass. During their brief existence they supported The Herd and opened for David Bowie. Their sound was loud and righteous with great vocal harmonies, tight rhythm section and wonderful keyboard /guitar solos. After getting signed to a London management, they recorded their only LP in one session and they had it released in the UK on the Fontana label and on the USA on Crewe, featuring a different cover. Sadly, the band broke up following year and since the inclusion of “Butterfly” in one of the Rubbles comps several decades later, they've become a cult group among psych collectors LP $15 SKU:22891
GOOD MISSIONARIES-Pylons (long lost 80s post punk classic) SAALE!Label:LION /COLOR TAPES Limited edition of 500 copies . Includes poster insert with archive band photos and slee• The hipness and success of London punk-explosion photocopy fanzine Sniffin’ Glue was almost entirely due to the irreverent, pugnacious sincerity of its founder/spark-plug Mark Perry. That Perry should form a band (Alternative TV) seemed a natural progression; that it was any good at all a surprise; that it maintained a stance utterly disdainful of compromise a small miracle.”The Good Missionaries emerged, phoenix-like, from the ashes of Alternative TV (ATV). They released one live album “Fire From Heaven,” before ATV founder Mark Perry left. Ex-ATV guitarist/vocalist Dave George and bassist Keith Rodway continued the band, with several line-up changes during those days. The Good Missionaries toured and gigged with such bands as The Fall, The Pop Group, Crass, Scritti Politti, Delta Five, Poison Girls, Nik Turner’s Inner City Unit and The Transmitters. Which in retrospect makes sense, as their post-punk/dub/experimental inclinations dovetails perfectly with the music those more storied bands (more successful bands) were making at the time. The Good Missionaries released several singles on their own Unnormality label, before splitting in 1982. LP $15 SKU:25096
HOPKINS,RICH& the Luminarios - Enchanted Rock country covers by the Gosdin Brothers and Patty Smith & a new original song that sounds very Raspberry–esque-)Label:SAN JACINTO Enchanted Rock was recorded live at Halversonics Studio in Austin, Texas in two days and mixed in one day. What makes this album different is there is a mix of country covers by the Gosdin Brothers and Patty Smith to a new original song that sounds very Raspberry-esque (Nobody Told You) to acoustic renditions of some of Hopkins' older songs like Paraguay and Dark Side of the Spoon. This album captures the band in a new light. The CD version of this release contains two additional tracks LP $15 SKU:25326
LIVING SACRIFICE BAND-Beauty for ashes (75-82 West Coast Xtian heavy rock)SAALE - Label:ANAZITISI From 1975 to 1982 the Living Sacrifice Band would play literally hundreds of concerts from the west coast to the east coast and privately produce 3 albums between 1977 and 1981. "Beauty for ashes" is their second one, from 1979. Side A contains 5 pleasant xian folk-rock ballads, with beautiful female vocals and excellent flute and keyboards work, reminiscent of early 70's UK bands. Side B seems to be different enough, containing three extended rock (you could even call them heavy rock) tracks with female and male vocals as well and lots of fuzzy, distorted guitars, and wild flute leads. 3 tracks of the album are (co-)written by Jim and Vicky Tsapatoris of Last Call Of Shiloh fame. This is an officialy reissue, represented here with the original B/W cover which is much rarer than the second edition from 1980, with the well-known "Flower Girl" cover. Fully laminated cover. Includes extra triptych (6-pages LP-sized) insert with bio, photos, lyrics and memorabilia and a reproduction of the second 1980 edition's ("Flower Girl") front and back cover. Reproduction of an LSB original poster is also included. Limited to 200 black and 100 coloured copies. 180gr vinyl as usual. PVC protective outsleeve LP $15 SKU:20838
LORE CITY Participation MystiqueLP + download (elements of psych rock, post- rock, dark wave, and dream pop)SAALE! Label:LORE CITY Praise for Lore City: “Lore City pack a mystical punch” – LOUD WOMEN"Their cinematic flair bodes well for a soundtrack to the great shift of humanity.” – POST-PUNK“a trance-inducing shamanistic ritual, meant to bring you closer to both one’s ancestors and the universe” – The Joy of Violent Movement“positively artful and stirring” – Destroy//Exist “sounds as if it were reverberating in a deep cave below the forest floor” – Tome to the Weather Machine“a massively psychedelic landscape” – MangoWave“brings a unique, atmospheric sound, has a post-punk feel, and a mystical aura” – Roadie Music“combines elements of psych rock, post- rock, dark wave, and dream pop” – YMX “close your eyes and let the music seep into your brain” – Faeton Music “natural and unique” – Artists Central“Lore City has made a seriously successful attempt to innovate” – Maxazin Album Statement and Backstory"Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow never was. Move your piece around the board, sheath of the physical. Light the lamp within. Corral. Catch sight of a fireball careening across the sky, blazing. Something is on fire, and it’s coming down on us. Lull into the love that is afforded to you, lull into the lead of sleep, lull into the movies. Push, pull. Marching to our realizations, marching to work, marching to our resolutions. And you’re waiting, waiting for that call to come. Standing across from, standing next to, coming to a standstill. Earthly divide. The eternal afternoons, parallel. The moments when something moves closer. A phantom ship wafting, calling home across the water. Recreating the familiar, ancient original feeling. An expanse, cascading.
A rare event happened in early 2020, something that occurs only once every 500 years. Saturn directly aligned with Pluto within the constellation of Capricorn. Essentially, hard lessons joined forces with transformational evolution regarding the infrastructure between the material and the spirit. I know you know. Queued up in a world of limbo and revolution, Lore City tunneled into new songs, finally sending Alchemical Task to press in the early summer days. By then, they were halfway through Participation Mystique. Original Feeling cleared the way, and by the time Buttons materialized with somber holiness, they knew it was finished. Another installment for the continuum, its contents esoterically encyclopedic." LP $15 SKU:24630
MAD FABLES - Get Off(70s Dead style)SAALELabel:VOID Rare New Jersey band from the 70's in a grooving, jamming rock in a Grateful Dead (in their seventies garb, post Pig Pen), Allman Brothers (with Duane still alive), Little Feat vein. This is the kind of record that gets better the more it goes on, with side two being one of the most desirable in the whole genre.Mad Fables came together in the 1970’s before such labels as "jam band" or “indie band" existed. They self-produced and published their own music — they released “Get Off” in 1977 — and established a base of friends who enjoyed music and community. They called it "making a record". Every year Mad Fables would celebrate the end of winter and arrival of Spring, by throwing a huge party to which the entire world was invited. Attendees were asked to bring their signature dish or beverage and the group would play spirited sets of music. The leftovers usually fed the group for a month. Mad Fables drew thousands of people to their self-run events. Far more people say they “saw the band live” than actually exist in the state of New Jersey! After the group disbanded around 1980, the feasts continued as a type of once a year reunion. Shockingly enough, the Feast was held for 30 consecutive years. Mad Fables music was never destined for commercial acceptance. In its best years, its members’ incomes would never rise to the poverty line. But for those who were touched by it, the music burns brightly even today. According to the band, Mad Fables' music was the result of a process "that nourished and drew upon their collective experience, fusing the music with whatever emotions arose while playing. This audio alchemy unleashed an energy that enveloped those tuned to this type of frequency, and drove all to a joyful madness.”

MCKAY-Into You ( WEEDBURNER- One of the holy grails of 70s Indianapolis private-pressdom ) -Label:LION w Updated liner notes and exactly-transcribed lyrics. One of the "holy grails" of Indianapolis private-pressdom (surpassed only by Zerfas and Anonymous) available again in its original format! Ray "McKay" Pierle and his musically-adept brothers and friends partied, jammed and partied some more on Indy's south side throughout the mid-70's, forming a band (Loos) which managed to garner zero media attention at the time. However, Ray's trusty Teac four-track was always close at hand and countless hours of home recordings were induced onto magnetic tape, as well as a few songs laid down at a local studio. After a brief hiatus, the core members reconvened as McKay, and created their sole document, the 300-press "Into You" album (1978); the LP was given to friends and family and consigned in nearby record shoppes. A mere 15 years had to pass before the collecting world discovered the highly-personal songwriting, tight playing, and not-so-well-hidden West-Coast stylistic touches. A vinyl reissue was locally produced back then but it's long gone, so here's a new all analogue, master tape edition for a new generation to savor. •All-analogue pressing, cut directly from the original master tapes. •Licensed from Ray Pierle with his full cooperation and support. •Updated liner notes and exactly-transcribed lyrics. LP $15 SKU:16350
MYSTERY PLANE-Still Life (70s Amon Duul style)-Label:COLOR DISC : Mystery Plane formed in 1980 from the ashes of 70's new wave band 3D5 who's line-up also featured future Cure member Porl Thompson. This record was originally a demo cassette made in 1981 that was hawked around record labels with a view for release. Later Color Tapes released a 100 copies edition. To support their demo at the time the band played such gigs at the Marquee, Rock Garden and The Bridgehouse supporting bands such as Fad Gadget, Modern English and Henry Padovani (Ex-Police) in London. This sublime minimal basement krauty synth LP was inspired by bands such as Neu, Amon Duul ll, and "Vienna" period Ultravox. The album features guitar work of Gerald O' Connell who was a big fan of Ash Ra Tempel's guitarist Manuel Gottsching. A year later he went on to form Lives Of Angels who made the classic cold wave album "Elevator To Eden" which was originally released on Color Tapes in 1983. Mystery Plane have been featured on the sold out Cold Waves Of Color compilation series. The album has been remastered by Denis Blackham and comes complete with a poster insert. (LP) Import edition, limited to 250x copies. LP $15 SKU:20978

ROXY- ST -1973 Power pop GREG SHAW FAVE (sealed original, with drill hole) ORIG PRESS Label:Elektra This album should get its positive due for yielding some catchy and spirited pop songs.
Perhaps some of the overhype can be traced to Bomp magazine editor Greg Shaw who in the liner notes to 1973's Dudes album on CBS went overboard in his praise. There is a great composition on this self titled album by Roxy, and that is 'Yesterday's Song,' a pretty, eerie, moody, well sung, well constructed, well performed piece of music surrounded by other well-performed tunes which are competent, but not the next coming. SHOTGUN-Dallasian Rock- 70s blues rock Prev. unrel vintage studio tracks)Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) A blend of hard hitting riff rock á la early Led Zeppelin and James Gang, with a guitar attack reminiscent of bands like Leafhound or Edgar Broughton Band. Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage and soaring, soulful vocals, punchy bass and solid drumming make for a memorable set of songs that you won't soon forget. Shotgun had a successful career in and around Dallas, TX between 1974 and 1977, playing the club circuit and recording at the cities best studios. Sadly, nothing ever came of the recording sessions and Shotgun eventually morphed into VIZION, which released an album in 1980 that featured the vocals of Jan Houston. Finally after more than 38 years, Shotgun's long lost studio sessions are presented for the first time ever on LP as they were meant to be heard. The CD versions includes eleven additional bonus tracks. The most amazing thing about these tracks is how they remained on the shelf all these years! •Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage. •Previously unreleased vintage studio tracks from the 1970's LP $15 SKU:19500
SILVERBEATS -ST-underground neo-psychedelic punk steeped in Pebbles-era rock . BLACK VINYL PURPLE STICKERLabel:RTAI/LION First reissue of rare cassette-only underground neo-psychedelic punk steeped in Pebbles-era rock, from this Milwaukee band which featured Dan Mullen (Plasticland) on guitar and the talents — songwriting and otherwise — of iconic underground maven Tess (James Tessier). ‘I Want Speed’ shows The SilverBeats’ affinity to West Coast psychedelia. And it’s no coincidence that they cover the Human Expression’s ‘Calm Me Down,’ rich with harmony vocal, and The Pretty Things’ ‘Midnight to Six (Man),’ replacing the original’s rough R ’n’ B-edge with a slight psychedelic tinge — a real showpiece for drummer Mike Hughes. Another killer is ‘Over And Over,’ penned by Tess (like all the other originals on this album). It layers beautiful, trippy guitar, a catchy vocal melody, lots of echo, strange effects, and weird sounds before it closes, and we move on to the jolly, jumping ‘Love Comes Knockin.’
Comes with an 8-page booklet featuring a description by journalist David Luhrssen of the Milwaukee underground music scene which produced Plasticland, Daszu, the band Ör, and the Violent Femmes, among others. LP $25 SKU:25867

ACTION -SHADOWS AND REFLECTIONS(4CD BOX THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS 1964-1968)Label:GRAPEFRUIT THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS 1964-1968' - Sixties mod band The Action only released six singles in their lifetime -or seven, if you count a pre-Action single by The Boys- but their legend has grown exponentially since their demise in 1968. They were the first band signed by Beatles producer George Martin after he left EMI to set up his own company AIR Productions. In due course, he produced the band's five singles issued on Parlophone between 1965 and 1967 as well as tracks intended for a never-released album. 'Shadows And Reflections' is far and away the most comprehensive tribute to The Action so far assembled, boasting all their known recordings in the studio and live on radio/TV. Many of the original Parlophone single mixes have never been reissued in their original form on compact disc - until now. The fresh discovery of multi-tracks and rehearsal tapes has led to a whole disc's worth of previously unheard mixes and performances. The box set includes numerous photos of the band in their heyday, with 16,000 words of sleeve-notes by David Wells and a 36-page booklet within a handsome 4-CD digibook. Includes all previous material issued from the band's BBC sessions and post-Parlophone period, suitably remastered by Alec Palao. CD $75 SKU:24501
AGAPE -The Problem Is Sin: Live And Unreleased (1973 blazing acid jam but with Jesus!)-Label:HIDDEN VISION Collection of rare material, much of it only previously available on an extremely rare promo-only 8-track tape (!) from one of the first hard rock Jesus music bands, formed around the talent of Fred Caban during the early stages of what became known as the Jesus People movement. Most of it is live from 1973, the stand-outs being a blazing acid jam versions of ‘Wouldn’t it Be a Drag’ and ‘Change of Heart’, live at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, CA. Upon graduating from high school in the spring of 1968, Hendrix-influenced guitarist Fred Caban and his bandmates squeezed into a small Volkswagen van in search of venues to perform. One night, at Huntington Beach's Lightclub, they met a group of enthusiastic teenagers whom Caban described as being "totally immersed with the message of Christ." Though not totally understanding the "Lightclubber's” message, Caban began praying for an introduction to "whomever was out there." When he returned to the van he shared his experience and found that fellow bandmate Jeff Newman had also undergone a spiritual conversion. Caban formed another band naming it Agape, the Greek word for God's love. Having established himself as a guitarist of some merit, the band capitalized on his name to gather crowds. Agape's vision became evangelistic–desiring to share their experience with their peers. "We'd play one or two songs, we'd jam, we'd blow them away and then boom, we'd start preaching..... and people would actually stick around and listen." Within six months a group of fifty young converts had joined the trio as a loose amalgamation of spiritually searching teenagers who gathered together for Bible studies and strategy sessions to promote the band's concerts. ANT TRIP CEREMONY-24 HOUR (1968 psych Hendrix Airplane style)Label:CICADELIC RECORDS With photos and the story of the group as related by its members. The Ant Trip Ceremony album was recorded during two sessions. the first session was in February of 1968 in a rented hall at Oberlin. Steve was there for the first sessions but had left Oberlin by the spring of 1968 and was not present for the second recording session. The album was called "Twenty Four Hours"because that was the feeling behind the sessions. The band felt ready to record their original songs. These were performed live before student audiences. During live shows, the band was wild, but sadly no live tapes exist. Thus the original songs done on the album when performed live were more psychedelic and improvised. The band was known for getting into strange and long jams. Furthermore no song was ever done twice exactly the same. They were, in some ways like the Grateful Dead of the region. When the band played it was a happening, a genuine psychedelic event. Shows went on for hours, with the audience in a wide variety of states of consciousness. The artwork for the album was of its time with psychedelic-mind-zapping art work. It was without a doubt a counterculture statement!! Musically the whole album has a strong west-coast feel and influenced of Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver but also Hendrix are felt troughout the album. A classic psychedelic album. BEAT BOYS - ST ( Brazilian 60s pop-psych , 20 page booklet and rare singles track) - Label:LION Laden with torrid psychedelic moments (released by RCA Victor in 1968), as well as a rare singles track from the same year. A 20-page booklet includes lyrics, and an exploration of the Beat Boys’ fascinating story. .Along with Os Mutantes, the Beat Boys represented the most radical element in Brazilian rock: their name, clothes, hair—and intense fuzz guitar raves—were all fierce indicators of a rebel spirit, and this in a dangerous time for such self-expression. Here is the simple truth: The Beat Boys were at the very epicenter of the cultural revolution that convulsed Brazil during the late 1960’s, that movement of rupture, that bringing together of electricity and avant-garde erudition that has come to be known as “Tropicália.” They backed Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil for their defining moments as artists—both live, and in the studio on tracks which became the opening Tropicalist salvo (a rare EP). So, what were this group of Argentine rock musicians doing in the forefront of all things outrageous in Brazil? More to the point, why is it that very few people, even among the Brazilian music cognoscenti, have ever heard of them? One explanation must be the fact that the band were essentially outsiders to the Brazilian music scene. As unlikely as it was for them to penetrate the inner circles of Brazilian elite musicians (it was unlikely), it was even more unlikely that they would remain there once their closest friends, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, were exiled from Brazil. This disc includes the Beat Boys entire output under their own name: their sole album—an exercise in what one might call “controlled Tropicália”,“Caetano called the Beat Boys, an Argentinean group settled in São Paulo who had been inspired by the Beatles, to accompany him in ‘Alegria, Alegria.’ That, in fact marked the beginning of the Tropicalista thing.” —Gilberto Gil CD $12 SKU:23494
BEAUTIFUL LOSERS - Nobody Knows the Heaven (70s French pop Bolan style ) Label:LION To set the scene: it’s 1974, it’s Paris, two young guys in their bed-sit (one of whom is French music maven/famous producer Jay Alanski) are dreaming of counter-culture, and their internal versions of California and New York. The result is this album, a child begotten of Marc Bolan, Baudelaire, and Lautréamont; a fascinating record, subtle and engaging as it is scarce; the re-creation of a parallel pop universe which one Michael Moorcock wouldn’t have renounced. Somehow, the duo get their record out into the world on Monde Melody’s one-off “Silk” imprint (a tribute to Marc Bolan). And what twisted songs (in English) they managed to squeeze into a fifty-minute slab of vinyl. The music drips with deep nostalgia for the decadent “beautiful people” who lived and breathed and then found a home in the songs of Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen, pervaded throughout with a kind of psychedelic sadness. All of this is expressed by means of long jagged acid guitar runs (or in acoustic strums) supported by Moroccan percussion (bongos?) and heavy bass lines from Christophe J. A post-quaalude album, as band leader Jay Alanski has said. If the LP had been released in 1971, everyone would point to T-Rex as an influence, and call it “glam folk”; fast forward to today and it’s hard not to think “loner,” and draw comparisons with the music of Devendra Banhart, albeit recorded 35 years ago! We’re now several decades further on in the world’s slow self-destruction, but this sole recording by the Beautiful Losers has lost nothing of its freshness and superb arrogance. Blessed be the listener who is going to discover such a hidden treasure! CD $10 SKU:11172
BELLADONNA -Night Shade (Texas metal/hard rock 1990)Label:SHROOMANGEL Obscure Melodic Metal/Hard Rock band from Texas — featuring Robert Hampton from Hooker —with a shelved album forgotten since 1990. The tape with the album songs was rescued recently to digital treatment and added a few bonus tracks from rough demos. All of this material was recorded between 1989 and 1990. Belladonna was formed in January of 1989. By that winter the band had moved to Nashville for a production deal that went sour. The experience inspired the writing of 'Watching You,' 'Power Surge', and 'Once Again.' Upon returning to Houston the band began playing out, getting radio airplay, gaining a strong following, and by the summer of 1990 recorded a live video concert for the TV show Metallurgy. By the fall of 1990 the song 'Once Again' caught the ear of Rick Chavez (producer and leading member of the band Drive (Rampage/Rhino Records) leading the band to be courted for a recording deal. Tensions had been brewing towards the latter part of the year and the band inevitably split up with Mike and Rude leaving for Los Angeles to record 'Once Again' for Drive's "Diablero" album and eventually join forces with Drive. File Under: Melodic Heavy Metal, Glam Metal, Hard Rock. For fans of: Seduce, Odin, St. Elmo's Fire and World War III. (LIMITED TO 300 COPIES - TEXAS ROCK DYAMONDS SERIES) CD $12 SKU:24723
BILLYLEE JANEY -Gimme Some Lightning (classic hard rock from ex Truth and Janey guitarist)Label:ROCKADROME If you dig the sounds of Hendrix and Trower, you’ll dig this! This time around, it’s a full throttle non-stop barrage of down and dirty smoldering heavy blues rock guitar licks that just keep coming at you from start to finish. It’s almost like one long heavy guitar jam session where Janey just cuts loose at will. Janey’s mean and nasty tone and signature axe-slingin style are totally electrifying here. And as with all of Janey’s solo albums, it’s not just the guitar playing that stands out but also the great catchy classic rock and blues songs as well. This could very well be his strongest solo album yet! CD $10 SKU:26406
BLUE CHEER -7 (1979- Rare look at the world’s first Heavy Metal Blues band!) Label:SHROOMANGEL A new limited edition TEXAS ROCK DYAMONDS series of small press-run CD releases Raw, heavy, and straight to the point—a rare and wonderful glimpse of Dickie Petersons Blue Cheer. Produced by Eric Albronda and Jim Keylor. Recorded at Army Street Studios in 1979. "Blue Cheer 7 represents a rare look at the world's first true Heavy Metal Blues Band during a late 70s reincarnation which was closest to the sound of their original great success with "Vincebus Eruptum," their million selling debut. "In 1972, the late Dickie Peterson, walked out of the studio after announcing Blue Cheer was finished, after punching his drummer in the mouth for trying to make him drink carrot juice. Despite a glowing review of their sixth LP, "Oh! Pleasant Hope!" by Lester Bangs in Rolling Stone, the band's demise was swift, and about as loud as one hand clapping. Peterson, by his own admission, struggled for years with drug and alcohol abuse, but wasn’t ready to give up on his band. In 1974, an association with Kim Fowley could not get the revamped Blue Cheer lineup a recording contract, though the demos they made together were quite good. Five years later, Dickie had another go at it, briefly enlisting guitarist, singer and songwriter Tony Rainier (whose older brother had been a Cheer roadie before dying in Vietnam) and drummer Michael Fleck." Packaged in a luxurious 6 panel digipac includes expanded artwork and seven additional bonus tracks not on the LP version! CD $12 SKU:24719

CHAMELEON- Rising (70s Texas)-Label:SHROOMANGEL a new limited edition TEXAS ROCK DYAMONDS series of small press-run CD releases "Beginning in the early 1970’s and continuing until 1980, this relatively unknown band from Houston managed to record a stunning collection of songs that are the musical expression of the word Chameleon. Twisting and turning, changing colors, leaping out of your speakers at times with unbridled ferocity- this band will hold your attention throughout the 70+ minutes contained on this disc. Musicians Spencer Clark (guitars, vocals), Mike Huey (drums), Craig Gysler (keys, vocals), and Rick Huey (bass) rounded out the mid 70’s line-up with a key change being made later in 1978 with the addition of Marty Naul (Oz Knozz) on drums. The band’s sound and style reflect the artists they listened to and loved yet at the same time they managed to craft their own unique tones. One may hear reflections of Peter Gabriel era Genesis, Canterbury heavyweights Camel, King Crimson, Dixie Dregs, and Eloy in their music (emphasis mine)." •Previously unreleased vintage studio tracks spanning 1976 to 1978 •Chameleon to be featured in an upcoming edition of Progression Magazine. ECSTATIC VISION-UNDER THE INFLUENCE(raw, fuzzy,
FREEDOM’S CHILDREN- Galactic Vibes (1971S S AFRICAN HEAVY PSYCH ) W BONUS TRACKS - Label:FRESH Freedom's Children were the most important band South Africa ever produced, famous for their recipe of acid rock mixed with electronic experiments and tribal rhythms; here is the first-ever legitimate reissue of their third and last LP (Parlophone, 1971), which featured a 16-minute live for radio version of 'The Homecoming' (from their equally rare "Astra" LP)—a soaring , intense, wailing masterpiece, as well as the thud power rock of 'That Did It'; the rest of the record is often justifiably compared to Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma", with many "magic box" sounds finding their way into the mix ('Fields and Me' and 'The Crazy World of Pod' in partiular have strong Floyd elements at work); liner notes and photos have complete band history; includes an unreleased extended version of '1999' as a bonus track. The year was 1971, but the song was ‘1999’; the group was Freedom's Children, and the vibes were galactic. A many-layered album, almost to the point of being cluttered, but this is what makes it interesting. Each time you listen you can hear something new, be it a tone in Brian Davidson's wailing vocals, a riff from Julian Laxton's screaming guitar, a sequence of notes from Barry Irwin's booming bass, or the change from sticks to hands on Colin Pratley's awesome drumming. The album features some blistering, fuzz-edged guitars on the thundering ‘That Did It’ as well as the quieter and beautiful ‘Fields And Me.’ There is also the experimental keyboard piece, ‘The Crazy World Of Pod: Electronic Concerto.’ The orchestration on ‘About The Dove And His King’ adds beauty and sheen to what is a rough rock sound, due mainly to the inventive recording methods used. With layers of overdubs and no noise reduction, this method created what the sleeve notes describe as a "musical mystical mist of sound." An album that South Africans can be proud of, even thirty years later. It is a great musical achievement that can be hauled out again and again and simply marveled at. Includes an exclusive unreleased extended version of ‘1999’ as a bonus track. with bonus track CD $14 SKU:23325
HANDS -Caviar Bobsled (70s style prog) -Label:SHROOMANGEL "Hands was originally active back in the '70s, but time and circumstances didn't see them acquire a great deal of success back then. They reformed in 2001 however, and have been a going entity ever since. "Caviar Bobsled" is their most recent studio album, released in 2015 via the US label ShroomAngel Records. The music is deceivingly and subtly complex though, so it really needs a few spins before it will settle with you.” —Windhawk, ProgArchives. "For those who have followed the band, their blend of Gentle Giant, Kansas, Camel, and Happy the Man styled prog remains intact, and there's some truly fabulous material here on Caviar Bobsled. There have been a lot of great prog albums released in 2015, and Caviar Bobsled is certainly one of them. Holding back a bit on the bombast, this latest Hands offering combines intricate prog with lush folk and a touch of jazz-fusion for a sound that instantly tickles the senses and keeps you coming back for more. A truly gorgeous album that I can't recommend highly enough!” —Seaoftranquillity.org CD $10 SKU:24721
HIRO YANAGIDA- ST (1971 JAPANESE ROCKER with a song about weed)Label:Skyf Zol 1971 follow-up to his heavyweight solo debut Milk Time from Japanese keyboardist with more than his fair share of appearances on legendary Japanese rock albums (Apryl Fool, Foodbrain, Love Live Life + One, etc.); here, Yanagida teams up once again with guitar surgeon Kimio Mizutani, and the result is a dense bunch of pounding instrumentals, with melancholy vocals; also includes the track ‘My Dear Mary,’ a paean to the demon weed with Joey Smith on loan from Speed, Glue & Shinki.” CD $10 SKU:26067
HORDE - Press Button Firmly (mid sixties rare garage ) w 4 bonus tracks -Label:BREAK-A-WAY Rarest 60s garage album by North Carolina students from early 1967. Painstakingly remastered at KSL. Undoubtedly the most exciting mid sixties garage album to be recently discovered in the genre, is that by The Horde from North Carolina. The existence of this self produced album came to collectors ears and eyes only about a year ago. It was recorded more or less accidently in early 1967, released in a micro quantity of only 25 copies and among the local US garage albums of the decade it is one of the few eclectic examples with all the ingredients that makes it outstanding compared with the usual prep-school albums of the time. It contains a blend of exciting originals and well chosen, inspired covers, played in a raw, crude and frantic style. If ever it were true that the over-used assertion that a band's cover versions measured up to the originals, then it is true of The Horde. Why? These five 19-20 year old students from all over the United States did not only blaze a trail for 60s rock in then conservative North Carolina, they also had a general attitude that finds its origins in the young peoples mindset of the mid-sixties that put them outside of the local mainstream and gained them a sort of regional underground popularity. CD has 4 bonus tracks. CD $12 SKU:15346
LITTLE BOY BLUES- In The Woodland Of Weir (60s acid rock)Label:KISMET Their sole album -- made with a revised line-up and originally released in October 1968 -- incorporates jazz, classical and acid-rock influences, and makes its long-overdue return to CD here, complete with all their non-album singles sides. Having played innumerable live dates and appeared on top TV shows, their sound took a psychedelic turn in 1967. CD $10 SKU:13424

MANDHYLON -Negra ciudad(68-70 Argentine blues psych)Label:LION From the ashes of the mythical Argentine duo Sandhy & Mandhy—who recorded in 1969 the intensely rare and beloved album “Para Castukis” (reissued by Lion Productions on vinyl and CD), a record suffused with beat and psychedelic influences—comes this resurrection by Mandhy of his "Celestial Stories." Alberto Vanasco Jr. MARCUS (Rusty Evans) - Original LP and Outtakes DBL CD (60s psych w 32 bonus tracks and 20 PAGE BOOKLET) - Label:LION fter the release of the Freak Scene album, psychedelic guru Rusty Evans made his way from NYC to San Francisco, a geographic shift that resulted in work for the legendary San Francisco Sound label, producing bands such as It’s A Beautiful Day, Tripsichord, and Indian Puddin’ and Pipe; it also led to a drastic shift in style from the psychedelic "happening" of the Deep album for Cameo Parkway and the raga rock of the Freak Scene album for Columbia. And so it came to pass that Evans reclaimed his birth name of Marcus, and recorded a very mellow LP in 1969 for Kinetic Records, a label formed by the Kinetic Playground Ballroom in Chicago. Like much of Marcus’ work, the album is a fascinating relic of a particular time and place, in this instance San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district in the post-Summer of Love era. The Marcus LP is richly orchestrated psychedelic-folk music, with a pronounced Donovan and/or Tim Harden flavor to it, something that did not escape its creator. The mood is dreamy, the songs reflective, the voice vibrato, the album a yin to the yang of the Freak Scene "Psychedelic Psoul" album which precedes it by two years. So we have the hot and aggressive Freak Scene album contrasted—some might say perfectly balanced—by the diffuse and tranquil Marcus album two years later. To our mind, further proof of the excellence of the artistic mind behind both albums. This is the first actual re-issue of the vastly under-rated Marcus album since 1969; the only previous CD edition used alternate takes and not the album versions. Our fulsome edition indulges any completionist fantasies we might harbor, as it also serves up thirty-two bonus tracks, nearly two hours of alternate takes and acoustic demos (plus a few non-album tracks). There are guitar/voice demos recorded several months before Kinetic came along and offered a deal; other home demos have Marcus with acoustic guitar, bass and cello. There are guitar/voice demos were recorded six to eight months before Kinetic came along and offered a deal; other home demos have Marcus with acoustic guitar, bass and cello. There are also abundant demo studio versions, some of tremendous quality. The end result is (apparently) our first "interactive" release, as you can create your own ideal version of the Marcus album. Budget-priced double disc package includes a 20-page booklet, with an introduction by Marcus, his incredible history in music, as well as lyrics. Printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:14223
MARKLEY- A Group (US psych legends) Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM (Greece) Reissue on CD of what was actually the 5th and final album by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band are a showcase for the various dementias of vocalist Bob Markley (paranoia and a very keen interest in young—emphasis on young—women), and the electric shock treatment of guitarist/vocalist Dan Harris; the album's rich harmonies and full, delicate arrangements show the abundant influence of Michael Lloyd, who co-produced the album with Markley; tracks such as "Elegant Ellen", "Sweet Lady Eleven" and "Magic Cat" are nearly as good as some of the highlights from the WCPAEB catalog; a surprisingly consistent and accomplished album for a band about to collapse under the collective weight of it's own insanity. CD $10 SKU:26039
MODERN ART -All Aboard the Mind Train(lost 80s psych gem)-Label:LION Pre-Sundial project released on LP twice—in 1989 by the German Out of Depression label, and in an improved version in 1994 on Acme UK). This CD brings you the improved sound quality of the Acme version of the album, and includes two bonus tracks to make it even better. CD $10 SKU:26237
MORAZ, PATRICK- Out in the Sun(MOODY BLUES)Label:ESOTERIC Swiss born Patrick Moraz is probably best known in rock music circles for his membership of two of the world’s biggest rock bands, Yes and the Moody Blues. He was also been a member of the progressive rock band Mainhorse, forming the band with bassist Jean Ristori in 1969 and releasing one self titled album in 1970. By the time of the release of Moraz’s debut solo album in early 1976, he was firmly installed as the keyboard player in Yes. Following the release of Relayer all the members of Yes embarked on solo projects thus ensuring that his “The Story Of I” received maximum coverage in the music press. He then released his second solo album in 1977 (“Out In The Sun”) before joining the Moody Blues. As can be deduced from the title the second disc on offer here is a pairing of the first two Future Memories releases gathered together on one release. As with all the albums in the Patrick Moraz reissue campaign, this album has been re mastered for release by Moraz himself from the original master tapes. (Time Wave) CD $6 SKU:19062

NAZZ- 13th and Pine (60s early Rundgren )Label:Renaissance Records A collection of odds and sods, rarities and obscurities, "13th & Pine" is designed for the obsessive Todd Rundgren collectors out there, and, in that sense, it satisfies, since there is a lot of weird, unheard music here among the generous helping of seventeen tracks. Alternate mixes, instrumental backing tracks, out-takes — all recorded between 1968-1971. For those of you who don’t know, the Nazz was an American rock band formed in Philadelphia in 1967. They were founded by guitarist and principal songwriter Todd Rundgren and bassist Carson Van Osten. Drummer Thom Mooney and vocalist/keyboardist Robert "Stewkey" Antoni joined before their first concert, opening for the Doors in 1967. "The Nazz met in the hipster hangout/pick-up spot of the late ‘60s: Rittenhouse Square. The two blocks between 19th and 21st were "the only place where everything happened," says Antoni. "It was the two-block Mecca for longhairs." Antoni met Rundgren, who was then in a band called Woody's Truck Stop. The Nazz quickly formed, and the band crammed into a one-room apartment at 13th and Pine. (This album of previously unreleased Nazz material, is named 13th and Pine after this location.)” Sealed CD. POP MUSIC TEAM - Society Is A Shit (ultra rare Mexican 60s psych Iron Butterfly/Doors style )Label:VAM MEXICO Pop Music Team were among the first psychedelic bands in Mexico, writing original material influenced by Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane, and the Doors (they even opened for the Doors at the Forum in Mexico City). This is a reissue of their legendary unreleased album, recorded for Orfeon in April 1969, with killer fuzz guitar and organ, mostly sung in English. This music should be known to all psych music heads, but it isn’t: so what happened? It’s simple. A demo recording of the band’s track ‘Tlatelolco 68’ was broadcast on the radio in 1969. The Mexican government heard the track, and immediately quashed the release of the album; their objection: the song described the brutal repression of the student movement in Mexico (students were slaughtered at La Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco, Mexico City). For a long time, about 36 years to be precise, no one knew that an entire album had been recorded, or where to find the masters. But here it is, psychedelic garage jams with sweet fuzz and farfisa, including ‘Tlatelolco 68’, which turns out to be a 10-minute freaked out long jam. Sure, the cover art looks like a bubble gum packet (there was no original jacket art, since the album was never released), but don't let that or the band name scare you. This is wonderful stuff! QUAD - ST (Sun Dial psych Sonic Boom style ) Label:LION "Comparable to the work of close peer Sonic Boom in Spectrum and EAR, Quad stretch out and dive deep over three long tracks... Very different from Sun Dial's fuzz-heavy psych rock, the meditative, ind-altering nature of 'Temple,' Projection,' and the side-long 'Revisitation Mantra' come closer to Ramon's work with astral explorers Coil, while also sounding distinctly ahead of their time." —Shindig! Magazine (latest issue, review of Sulatron LP edition)The material recorded by Sun Dial approximately between 1990-1997 under their alter-ego QUAD has been among the most elusive prizes for fans of psychedelia, as it was issued many moons ago as an extremely limited LP in a clear plastic sleeve. It is an album certainly great enough to deserve such avid pursuit by fans of all sorts of psychedelia—mesmerizing, drugged-out and trippy at all times, with sitar and guitar floating in and out and up and down in the mix over some decidedly funky grooves. If there was ever music for dj’s to sample, and yet also for heads to enjoy at home, this is it! Quad started out as a Gary Ramon solo project, on which he worked with collaborators (including "Other Way Out" engineer Lee Allen) to try to develop a library of recordings devoted to electronic cosmic music. The main inspiration was the work of great electronic artists (who were still quite obscure in those days), such as Silver Apples, Tony Conrad, Terry Riley, Pierre Henry, Roland Kovac and improvisational bands including Amon Duul, Siloah—and of course Kraftwerk, Ash Ra Tempel and German bands on the Cosmic Courier, Ohr and Brain labels. RALLIZES DENUDES, LES -Hadaka No Rallizes) “yodo-go-a-go-go-Label:10th AVENUE FREEZE OUT Legendary Japanese rock outfit Les Rallizes Denudes were formed in 1967 and incredibly for a group that had only one official release (Oz Days Live, a double vinyl compilation release in 1973), played their last gig almost 30 years later in October 1996. The bands name apparently means "f*cked up and naked" which more than adequately describes their music. Formed by band leader Mizutani Takashi, the music remained remarkably familiar over the years, and is best described as high volume, raw lo-fi repetitive feedback-drenched guitar noise fests with nods in the direction of the Velvet Underground and Blues Creation but without the electronics. Radical left wing politics was never far from the bands agenda, with one original band member (Wakabayashi) being involved in the Japanese Red Armys hijacking of a flight to North Korea.. Consequently, the group's live appearances became less frequent and increasingly clandestine. All the bands albums were released in very small quantities and because of the group's reputation for secrecy and violence, as well as the difficulty in tracking down their recordings, Les Rallizes Denudes has assumed almost mythical status. ROTOMAGUS - The Sky Turns Red: Complete Anthology(1971 protopunk) Label:LION On Julian Cope’s excellent Head Heritage web-site, the Seth Man raves about Rotomagus thus: “The first time I heard this track (‘Fighting C*ck’), I did not freak out. I merely walked into a nearby closet and screamed my head off for a minute solid, beat the floor and ripped my t-shirt... then I cowered when it hit me: this thing came out in 1971? Before “Raw Power”?! I just lost my mind... The only thing that predates this monster in terms of being a full-on amassing of all things heavy are all the many key points on Sir Lord Baltimore’s “Kingdom Come” LP and THAT’S it, brother. Hard to believe this is all pre-1971, as much of the demo is not just proto punk but proto hardc*re—with enough fiery attitude to make you want to scream along. The vocals are wild, while the guitar riffs and grinds and approaches a Stooges via Motorhead apocalyptic grandeur. Amazing! CD $10 SKU:14512

ST. THOMAS PEPPER SMELTER - Soul & Pepper mini slv replica (Peruvian 60s psych freakbeat )- Label:LION PRODUCTIONS (USA) & REPSYCHLED RECORDS (Peru) The first official reissue of this much-bootlegged classic South American psychedelic freakbeat album, recorded in 1969 by Peruvian band The (St. Thomas) Pepper Smelter. Perhaps the story of the band is not well known, but their achievements were great—and international: editions of their sole LP were produced in Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador, and 45rpm singles were published in Mexico and Greece. St. Thomas Pepper Smelter was formed by Gerardo Manuel Rojas on vocals and tambourine, Beto Tataje on rhythm guitar and lead guitar, Juan Carlos Barreda on bass and vocals, Carlos Manuel Barreda on drums and backing vocals (all from the famous group Los Shains), and Freddy Macedo on keyboards. Their first single was a cover of ‘Purple Haze’ b/w one of their own compositions, ‘A New Summer.’ The band then began to record their only LP. That album contains twelve tracks—six written by the band, and the other half cover versions. The band's music could be described as freak beat; in many ways, it is a preview of the garage /surf style of Los Shain's, heading towards the heavy psychedelic rock of Gerardo Manuel & El Humo. At the time, St. Thomas Pepper Smelter simply called it “underground music.” Gerardo’s voice is soft in the band’s own songs, and aggressive on the cover tunes; his guitar style oozes fuzz. The foundation of bass and drums by the brothers Barreda is very powerful and strong; and the songs benefit from the layers of keyboard played by Freddy Macedo. This fully licensed, hand-numbered, limited edition CD release comes in a mini-LP sleeve replica of the original album art; it also comes with a replica of an original poster; a replica of an original color photo of the band. More importantly, it includes three previously unreleased bonus tracks exclusive to this edition. Carefully remastered from the original master tapes and released in this limited edition of 400 copies, available exclusively worldwide from Lion Productions. CD $10 SKU:14479
STEVENS, MEIC - Outlander (1970s Welsh Bob Dylan)-Label:Ye Elde Folk Musique Celtic 60s folk-psych, singer/songwriter cult hero, sings & plays guitar with incredible angst, passion, intensity and anguishOn the slightly more psychedelic-influenced front, there are some similarities to Donovan and (more distantly) Syd Barrett. Trance-like raga-rock elements make themselves heard on 'The Sailor and Madonna' and ‘Yorric,' with their sitar, tabla, and zigzagging flute. Some tracks with ethno-psychedelic sitar sounds other with heavy bass, drums, electric guitar. This CD version adds two songs from a 1966 demo as bonus tracks. CD $10 SKU:24337
SUN DIAL-Return Journey (psych classic)Label:GALLIUM ARSENIDE (USA) More recordings from the same time period as their stone cold psychedelic classic "Other Way Out” album, including some less-polished interpretations of early Sundial tracks, and an incredible cover version of Open Mind's 'Magic Potion’. VAVOURA BAND -Live—The Early Days (LATE 70S GREEK HARD ROCK)Label:IKAROS MUSIC (Greece) Only release of material by late-70’s Greek hard rock band famous for its destructive live shows; the musical style tends towards Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Golden Earring, with English lyrics, and a blues rock edge—‘Park House Blues’ is a stand-out track—but there are ethnic elements (bouzouki style electric guitar runs from the deft fingers of John Drolapas) and progressive leanings (strange keyboard sounds) that set the Vavoura band apart from the rock pretenders; twelve tracks, including their signature song ‘(I Ain’t the) Junkie’ recorded live (one studio cut) between 1977 and 1981; comes with an 8-page booklet with band photos.

CICADELIC SIXTIES -Vol 7- From Texas to Tucson(60s psych)-Label:COlLECTABLES On series such as this, by the time one gets to the seventh volume, it's usually a point for all but the hardcore enthusiasts to jump ship. Not so with Cicadelic 60s, Vol. 7 -- most of the acts represented may have gotten past some local or regional recognition (though one, the Lewallen Brothers, made it to national TV at least twice), but the Shandells, Inc., the Shadows (not the British instrumental outfit), the Feathers, and the Rocks, any could easily have made the leap to national exposure without a lot of luck, based on the evidence here (which makes this CD also sort of sad to hear, in terms of how heartbreakingly close some of these acts got). The Shandells Inc. utilize a shimmering fuzztone effect on their material, which works well in a spacy manner on "Say What I Mean" (joined by a cheesy Farfisa organ on the break) and somewhat less so on the harder, edgier "Just Cry," which offers the drummer a great showcase for his speed on the break. The Shadows seem to have had one pretty good organist and two fine guitarists, who get to show off some of their best work on "If You Love Me," while "The Big Man" is a fairly routine dance instrumental, dressed up with some entertaining lead guitar flourishes. The Rocks are the bluesiest outfit here, and appear to have listened to a lot of Them and the Shadows of Knight, based on their one side here, "Because We're Young." The Feathers, from Odessa, TX, were heavily influenced by the Byrds and, even more so, by the Beau Brummels and the Leaves, but had a less serious edge. Most of the rest of the CD is filled out by the Lewallen Brothers, who were far and away the most successful act here -- based in Tucson, AZ, they were popular in the southwest and had a collective virtuoso attack on their instruments as well as great voices. Their six songs are worth the price of admission, and should have been enough to make this volume a keeper, especially since the last four of their songs have never been released before. But the makers have filled the CD out with a pair of sides by the Marsades, a band that backed Gayle Ann Lewallen, the fairer sibling of the Lewallen brethren represented elsewhere; they're not bad, a first-rate dance outfit who might well have made it big in L.A. in the early '60s, whence these records date, and the Lewallen sister has a pleasing rock & roll voice on "Please Let Me Know," a side that recalls Jo Ann Campbell. They also fit in doubly well in the context of this CD, as the Marsades' split led to the Lewallen Brothers organizing themselves as a band. But it's the last track that makes this CD absolutely essential to any collection of '60s garage rock -- a 23-minute interview with Cal and Keith Lewallen, where they talk about their family, the band's history, their tours with Chris Montez and the Ripchords, and sharing bills with Paul Revere & the Raiders, the Yardbirds et al; and the entire music scene around Arizona in the early '60s, as well as their near-break on Happening '68. They're so engaging that the interview is worth returning to multiple times, and is the perfect capper to an already enjoyable CD compilation COMP CD $12 SKU:24343
CONGREGATION FOR ANTI FLIRTS -The McAllen, Texas Teen Scene 1965-1967 -Label:CICADELIC RECORDS \Subtitled: The McAllen, Texas Teen Scene 1965-1967. "From 1965 to 1967, McAllen was the happening scene for some of the wildest music to emanate from Texas in the '60s. The label that played host to these bands was Jimmy Nichol's Pharaoh Records and this album contains the best the label had to offer. Not only were the records superlative, but today they are considered some of the rarest finds for collectors of '60s garage bands. Singles by Pharaoh artists such as The Headstones, The Cavaliers, and Christopher and The Souls go for over a grand apiece, if they can be located. Congregation For Anti-Flirts Inc. also contains in depth coverage on the McAllen bands with rare photos, radio charts, and interviews, making this album a journey to pharaoh's valley that can't be missed.
