CATHERINE’S HORSE- Garage Blues from Connecticut SAALE - Label:BREAK- A-WAY RECORDS (Germany) Due to a long time growing interest into local 60s rock, most band stories, even of those who did put out rare and local records, have since been written. Not so with Connecticut band Catherine´s Horse. Their sole album dates from 1969 and was released only in an inner sleeve and no cover. Due to its rarity it is still a largely unknown release among today's record collectors and honoured with five stars in Hans Pokora’s “1001 Record Collectors Dream Book”. But those who happen to be familiar with it, appreciate it for the fresh sound of the music and the clear production. That and the fact, that it’s an amazing white blues rock album with a strong garage attitude provided by five high school students who never played professionally. The tracks are nearly all cover versions of classic, often moody blues tracks reminiscent of early Paul Butterfield Blues Band or Blues Project. The LP incl. long time standards such as “Good Morning Little School Girl”, “Think Twice”, “One More Mile” or “Can’t Keep From Cryin” mixed with covers of Jimmy Brenstons’ “Rocket 88” or Jagger / Richards “Good Times, Bad Times”. The only group original ''Sun Going Down'' hints at the talent and potential the band had and rounds off the groups effortless white electric bluesrock expertise. COLOURS, THE - OUT OF TIME ( 70’s New Wave ) -Label:GTA Records Crewe, England early 1977 - Andy and Rene form TV Eye and along with Mick Taylor, Andy (Bucko) Buckley and Steve Palmer they churn out Stooges, Ramones and Velvet Underground numbers to anyone who will listen at local venues, occasionally weathering verbal and even physical threats at a debut gig in Manchester. They are eventually joined by Dave (MD) on lead guitar in late '77. With a nucleus of Rene, Dave, Andy and Bucko they record their first session at Central Sound in Manchester from which the Rock Section EP is cut. After one or two name and personnel changes they eventually become The Colours Out Of Time; Rene, Dave and Andy locate two other necessarily intelligent musicians on the same wavelength - John Durrant and Phil Bourne. A second EP released on 'Monsters in Orbit', a John Peel session and impressive live shows continue to receive critical acclaim. The CD includes material from the two EP's that we released in 81/82 and the John Peel session from 1981, as well as an extensive booklet detailing the band’s history. CD $12 SKU:4166

DEBRIS - STATIC DISPOSAL (70s acid punk ) -Label:ANOPHELES The band were said to be high on acid when they recorded this in Oklahoma in 1975; not surprising then that the result is demented avant-garde proto-punk psychedelia, with modulators and synthesizers, a vibraharp (and more) utilised to good effect; the album is now considered a pivotal mid-70s effort from the American private press underworld, and as such has been hailed in Ugly Things, The Acid Archives, and MOJO (a Jon Savage favorite). And why not? It’s a record which has inspire bands from the Screamers to Nurse With Wound. Debris’ are now seen as one of the most important proto-punk bands of the era, too often snubbed by punk historians who don't want to rewrite their historical templates. This updated second printing features the original album tracks, carefully transferred from the master tapes, plus 40 minutes of unreleased basement recordings from the band's own Subterraneous Static Disposal office in Chickasha, OK in 1975-6. Detailed 28-page booklet has also been updated, and includes extensive notes which detail the band's own first hand experiences. GROK - The Anthology 64-2014 digipack Label:OHO MUSIC If OHO is Baltimore's answer to Pink Floyd, then Grok is Baltimore's answer to Jethro Tull. The sixteen songs found on this anthology album date as far back as 1964, which does pre-date Jethro Tull's inception, but not by very much. The earlier songs have a much stronger '60s rock feel along the vein of bands like the Byrds, the Turtles, et al. "Insanity" sports an endorsement of Pepsi Co. much like the Turtles' endorsement of the Chevy Camaro, and there is a not-so-subtle nod to the humor of Baltimore-born Frank Zappa's humorous rock in "C.R.S.", but it's songs like "The Lady & the Serpent"--a fifteen minute prog/space rock trip-fest--and "Gravel in My Shoe" that draw up some pretty strong similarities to Ian Anderson and his work. TELESCOPES- Hidden Fields (psych) -Label:TAPETE (Germany Founded in 1987 by Stephen Lawrie, The Telescopes have been mining a unique anti-myopic seam of highly influential experimental, drone, noise, dream, and psych ever since. Their first record was a split flexi-disc with Loop on Cheree Records. After a two more critically acclaimed singles for the label, they moved to What Goes On Records, with which they released another two EPs and their 1989 debut album, Taste, all of which found their way to the top of the UK independent charts. Tours followed withSpacemen 3, Primal Scream, and The Jesus and Mary Chain, and it wasn't long before The Telescopes were headliners themselves; Bark Psychosis, Whipping Boy, Slowdive, Bleach, The Cranes, and Ride all played some of their earlier shows supporting them. In 1990 the group appeared at one of the UK's biggest festivals of the time, Reading Festival, where they were one of the few bands that wasn't bottled off the stage. However, the increasing violent interactions with audiences at their shows saw the group step away from their noise origins and head toward a more introspective, psychedelic sound. It was around this time that What Goes On folded and Alan McGee stepped in to release the group's material on his Creation Records. The group released their second album and a string of EPs for the label, working with Douglas Hart (The Jesus and Mary Chain) on their videos, visual artist Paul Cannel on their sleeve work and Laika's Guy Fixsen in the studio. In 1992, the group began an eight-year hiatus, resuming output in the year 2000 with a revolving lineup and a stream of well-received releases. In 2011 Portishead invited The Telescopes to play at the first ever ATP festival at Alexandre Palace in London, and the following year The Black Angels and Reverberation Appreciation Society invited them to Austin Psych Fest. Following the 2013 release of their seventh LP, Harm, on Seattle-based label Neon Sigh, the group toured almost non-stop over the following two years, covering Scandinavia, Europe, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, the Ukraine, the UK, USA, the Middle East, and Ireland. Hidden Fields, The Telescopes' eighth album, is an unexpected return from the group's recent expeditions into the outer reaches of free-drone noise -- the psychiatric sounds of The Telescopes in a concise inner sensory rush, and their most song-based output in some time. In 1966, label boss Bob Shad had issued several unsuccessful singles by Bay Area groups, and by collecting them together on LP he unwittingly created one of the more satisfying surveys of the scene at the time. The groups included on "A Pot Of Flowers" were the Wildflower, pioneering folk-rockers who were an early fixture at the Fillmore and Avalon; San Jose's popular garage band the Otherside; legendary East Bay punks the Harbinger Complex; and, from southern California, the idiosyncratic Euphoria, whose off-beat take on psychedelia has given the group a cult reputation. Doubling the album's original tracklist, Big Beat adds a swathe of rare material, including folk-rock and proto-psych sides by associated West Coast acts such as the New Dawn, Word, Ariel and Unusuals, and several stellar unissued garage rockers from the Ban and Montells.
