ALRUNE ROD - TATUBA TAPES (1975 psych Denmark)Label:KARMA MUSIC Alrune Rod's last concert was in 1975 in Club Tatuba, Copenhagen. KAWABATA MAKOTO’S MAINLINER -REVELATION SPACE (Japanese undergound psych legends-Label:RIOT SEASON CD PACKAGED IN A MINATURE VINYL STYLE CARD SLEEVE WITH PRINTED INNER SLEEVE. One of the most celebrated Japanese Underground bands have returned! It may have taken over 12 years, but Kawabata Makoto, guitar guru and head honcho in Acid Mothers Temple, has finally decided to get his celebrated 'psychedelic solid free attack group' back together. Joining original Mainliner members Kawabata Makoto (motorpsycho guitar) and Koji Shimura (drums) is new recruit Kawabe Taigen (bass/vocals) and the trio still kick up one hell of a sonic racket. Confusion surrounds the exact details of the recording, but they seem to date from December 2011, and from Kawabata's mountain top temple studio-cum-home. The man himself, as always, is shying away from sharing too many of the magick details about the Mainliner rebirth. And the stark, minimal black with gold sleeve keeps the mystery intact, apart from the grainy band photo on the rear. All said, 'Revelation Space', is a comeback statement of intent. And it's firmly in the same 'in the red / raw' camp as the original trio's classic 'Mellow Out'. From the initial speaker shaking feedback burst of opener 'Revelation Space', right through to the closing 20-minute epic 'New Sun' (which showcases Taigen's otherworldly howl perfectly) there is no let up in the brutal delivery. This will no doubt delight those Mainliner diehards who never thought they'd see the day again, and all those with a love of over the top guitar howls and punishing feedback levels, but always under pinned by some righteous grooves. MERMAID - ST (1973 Danish rock) Label:KARMA MUSIC Mermaid was a very short lived band from Denmark, founded in 1973 by members from Burnin Red Ivanhoe and Young Flowers. Shortly after the band's start, Mermaid took on a tour to Norway in February 1973. This tour was very successful, and most of the material on this CD is actually from this tour. The other recordings are various unreleased studio recordings. The band never made a record, so this is all there is from this now forgotten band CD $16 SKU:21206

AGAPE -The Problem Is Sin: Live And Unreleased (1973 blazing acid jam but with Jesus!)-Label:HIDDEN VISION Collection of rare material, much of it only previously available on an extremely rare promo-only 8-track tape (!) from one of the first hard rock Jesus music bands, formed around the talent of Fred Caban during the early stages of what became known as the Jesus People movement. Most of it is live from 1973, the stand-outs being a blazing acid jam versions of ‘Wouldn’t it Be a Drag’ and ‘Change of Heart’, live at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, CA. Upon graduating from high school in the spring of 1968, Hendrix-influenced guitarist Fred Caban and his bandmates squeezed into a small Volkswagen van in search of venues to perform. One night, at Huntington Beach's Lightclub, they met a group of enthusiastic teenagers whom Caban described as being "totally immersed with the message of Christ." Though not totally understanding the "Lightclubber's” message, Caban began praying for an introduction to "whomever was out there." When he returned to the van he shared his experience and found that fellow bandmate Jeff Newman had also undergone a spiritual conversion. Caban formed another band naming it Agape, the Greek word for God's love. Having established himself as a guitarist of some merit, the band capitalized on his name to gather crowds. Agape's vision became evangelistic–desiring to share their experience with their peers. "We'd play one or two songs, we'd jam, we'd blow them away and then boom, we'd start preaching..... and people would actually stick around and listen." Within six months a group of fifty young converts had joined the trio as a loose amalgamation of spiritually searching teenagers who gathered together for Bible studies and strategy sessions to promote the band's concerts. A natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallising into a folk-rock-psych-pop- collective slowly pushing, bending then playing with any preconceived notions of pop. Friends first and foremost, its this kindred spirit that imbues the bands debut with a feeling unlike that of most releases - one of natural harmony, persistent progression and with a panoramic gaze fixed on distant settings. Their 2009 debut album has received unanimous critical acclaim worldwide. This is their follow up a new mini-album with an all-encompassing sonic soundscape of groovy electric folk rock, psychedelic pop and heavy jams. DRAGONMILK-WOLFMAN MACABRE (prog/psych 1972) Label:AUDIO ARCHIVES An updated edition of this ripsnorting prog/psych period piece, recorded in 1972 and taken from the original tapes. This atmospheric live recording really captures the moment and was made under the band's auspices to help gain a recording contract. 'Wolfman Macabre' represents the original and earliest incarnation of this east London band with the set featuring a dominant Hammond organ sound throughout, showcasing a mix of original material and period classics. Highlights include a brilliant rendition of the Nices Intermezzo and the frenzied 'Wolfman' with its crazed vocals and frantic tempo. The CD includes sleeve notes and cool archival memorabilia. GRUPO AMIGOS- Paloma mensajera(1973 Pervian psych) - Label:GUERSSEN “Originally released as a demo pressing in 1973, this album by Peruvian band Grupo Amigos is without doubt one of the rarest albums from the South American psych scene. Only a handful of copies were pressed for the band members and needless to say, an original copy is impossible to find. The band was formed by some long-time friends of Saúl and Manuel Cornejo of legendary Peruvian bands Laghonia and We All Together. Manuel Cornejo played drums on the album recordings and Saúl was the session engineer. Influenced by groups like the Beatles, Byrds, Stones, Badfinger, Shakers and of course Laghonia and We All Together, the music ranges from terrific guitar psych-rock like 'Dirty Girl' (which sounds like an outtake from Laghonia's first album) to British sounding pop-psych ('Mr. Taylor's Train,' ‘Psychiatrist’), harmony pop á la Byrds on 'Looking for home,’ a few rocking tunes and some beautiful mid-tempo numbers which show their We All Together influence. On this Guerssen reissue, you'll find the complete recordings of Grupo Amigos, including their only album and a killer non-LP 45 recorded the same year. A superb collection of sing-along power-pop, bittersweet midtempo melodic-punk and some killer blasts of mean punk'n'roll thrown in for good measure. REBELSSIPKOVA RUZENKA- rare Czechoslovakian 60s flower power folk-pop) Label:SUPRAPHON A classic flower power folk-pop LP from Czechoslovakia, originally released in 1968, gets its awaited reissue. One half of this collection features covers of hits by (mostly) The Mamas And The Papas. The other side however is much more interesting, offering original songs in the psychedelic folk-pop vein, with wonderful (and wondrous) orchestrations, not unlike US bands/projects s.a. Sagittarius and The Millennium. The line-up included the well known Jiri Korn as well as Josef Pliva. The latter would later (in 1970) release the LP 'Fairy-Tales In Beat', partly made up of the original songs from 'Sipkova Ruzenka', albeit with English lyrics. Label:WILDFLOWERMUSIC A 2007 collection of tracks by the re-united Wildflower, featuring songs the band played in the '60s, but never recorded during that time. Still has the psych/flower/pop/folk feel from that era. The CD comes with 8 page booklet with all lyrics and nice pictures. In 1965, "The Wildflower" began at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland with Stephen Ehret on rhythm guitar, Tom Ellis on drums, John Jennings on bass, Teddy Schneider played percussion, Michael Brown played lead guitar, and the whole band sang. Stephen wrote the songs for the band and also collaborated with poets, Michael McClure and Michael McCausland. The band was soon playing venues all around the Bay Area and was one of the original psychedelic 60s groups developing the San Francisco Sound that reached maturity during the Summer of Love. They played both the Fillmore and Avalon Ballrooms and toured extensively. Tom left to finish his education and Larry Duncan took over drums until his return. Teddy left the band before a tour back East. Following that, "The Wildflower" toured Canada with "The Youngbloods" and recorded with producer Jerry Corbitt. Just when it seemed their commercial success was secure, they disbanded.

ASTRAL DAZE- PSYCHEDELIC SOUTH AFRICAN ROCK 1968-1972-Label:TAKE IT ACID IS '1968-1972' - This collection brings together rarities from well-known artists like Abstract Truth, Suck, Otis Waygood, Freedom's Children, John & Philipa Cooper, McCully Workshop and Hawk, as well as lesser known acts like Buzzard, The Fireflies, The Idiots, Tidal Wave, and The Invaders. Although the South African rock movement of the late sixties and early seventies was not a major commercial success, its participants heralded an exciting new age in South African rock and started a movement aimed at changing the musical tastes of fans in a spectacular way. Stadium concerts became the vehicle for feeding the youth with heavier rock sounds, and behind studio glass were producers like Clive Calder, Billy Forrest, Graham Beggs and Selwyn Miller who acted as change agents to transform conventional pop into heavier 4 to 5 minute songs. The movement's struggle for recognition through airplay remained unanswered and only the true fans of rock knew about their existence.
