NEW ARRIVALS

AURA- Sativa (70s SF w band memorabilia, three unreleased bonus tracks) - Label:LION Official replica vinyl edition of this oft-sampled slab of Bay Area history, a psych funk masterpiece that cannot be denied. Aura formed in 1974 and played extensively throughout Northern California. By 1976, the band recorded their first and only album at Pacific Recording Studio in San Mateo. The original title of the album was meant to be "Sativa", but out of fear that promoting the joys of marijuana would be too controversial, the band omitted the title and just left it as "Aura". Over the ensuing decades, the Aura album has grown in stature to become a major soul/funk collector's item. It features a number of major funk tracks plus funky ballads with female vocals. Standouts include 'Sativa' (replete with water-pipe sound effects and blistering guitar), and the manic fuzz-guitar jam 'Skyrocket.' Old style tip-on jacket and quality limited edition vinyl pressing, mastered from the original tapes. LP $14 SKU:19263

BERMUDA TRIANGLE- ST (70s folk psych)Label:WINTER SOLSTICE What do you do if you are a married psychedelic folk duo from the 1960’s who had been pals with Greenwich Village coffee house and club stalwarts like, say, Jimi Hendrix, had your one shot at major label glory (a MGM/Heritage label release under the band name Euphoria) ruined by the producer of those sessions, and then had your self-released album from the mid-1970’s (as Bermuda Triangle) bootlegged by the pernicious Radioactive/Fallout/Phoenix/Past & Present/Sunbeam reissue juggernaut? Well, if you’re Roger and Wendy, you dig through your tapes, and not only do you release the original Bermuda Triangle album, with six bonus tracks, but you also release a second, equally enchanting disc of alternate takes and other recordings dating from the same era! The psychedelic folk music of Roger and Wendy is astonishing, beautiful, and enchanting without sounding dated. Truly wonderful music with its own original sound, which to a great extent stems from Roger Penney's electric autoharp, the enchanting voice of Wendy Penney and the unique arrangements that combine the two. Listen, for example, to the unusual way in which the duo interpret a classic like ‘Nights In White Satin’ (on the original Bermuda Triangle album, first released in 1977). Everything that follows is as good, perhaps even better still. All in all, something of a stunner. A few months ago we had never heard of Bermuda Triangle, apart from the occasional entry in record collector’s lists. Now, we cherish these two albums from a band who seemed to be destined to be a footnote in the history of psychedelic folk, but have now been promoted to their proper status as a major chapter in that self-same history. There's often a celebratory feeling to the music, from rock tracks to more pastoral tracks like the album closer, ‘Wind,’ a song which has a trippy psychedelic atmosphere, thanks to ethereal folk vocals, moody electric piano, and bass. We can all be grateful that this music is available from the source, with abundant bonus material, as the resultant album is a joy; any acid folk / rural roots fans should grab it with both hands and rush to the nearest CD player. Weird and beautiful."(On) this gem, the sound is totally lost in time and transports you back to the carefree days of the early seventies and is extremely trippy. You have to check out the wah wah autoharp, the weird percussion and bass. A great listen. Almost predates the current folktronica scene. This wild album has to be heard and is quite superb from folk to reels to country all bathed in this misty autoharped glory." —Forced Exposure magazine"Transcendental female vocals, elaborate keyboard arrangements, and autoharp which is often treated with phasing, flanging and other effects. Fine originals. This album is kind of a shock on first listen, because at least to these jaded ears it's not often I discover something so original and bizarre."—Acid Archives LP $32 SKU:11823

BLISS- Return to Bliss (Excellent 1969 HARD PSYCH)-Label:VOID Arizona power-trio Bliss' second album, previously unreleased. How can that be, you ask? During the making of the classic eponymous Bliss LP (released on Canyon in 1968/69), the band recorded two LP's at once—the second was never released, until now. Raw, heavy power trio action from Arizona (Brad Reed, Rusty Martin and Corky Aldred), very powerful indeed; producer, as on the Canyon LP, was Hadely Murrell. Some feel that ‘Hippies, Cops And A Bunch Of Rocks’ and ‘Music Train’ are destined to become classics of the psychedelic genre. LP $15 SKU:19257

CASE - Blackwood(1971) Color insert includes notes by the band + rare photos • Limited to 500 copies -Label:LION Almost completely unknown and rarely spoken of album of nine original tracks, self-released on the legendary RPC Records label by a group of self-motivated teens from Pennsylvania. Luckily for lovers of musical mayhem, the Case got access to their school music room and a four-track recorder over a Christmas break in 1971. A rock-solid, hard-driving rhythm section lays down the necessary underpinning for moody organ and beautifully-toned guitar. There is sheer joy at play here, a kind of rock 'n' roll exuberance—with ample raw talent and wicked riffing—which shines through on every cut. Terrific raw, primitive album, simultaneously loose and intense, like the Velvet Underground at their best. • Terrific primitive album recorded in 1971 by some very advanced high-schoolers during their Christmas vacation, self-released on the legendary RPC Records label LP $14 SKU:15626

DEVIL’S KITCHEN- ST (SF 60s psych ) Label:LYSERGIC SOUND First ever release by DEVIL’S KITCHEN, perhaps the best of the greatly talented but “forgotten” bands from the legendary San Francisco psychedelic scene of the late 1960’s. This heavy guitar-powered psychedelic four piece band moved from their original Southern Illinois base to the Bay Area during The Summer Of Love. The band came to the attention of Bill Graham and Chet Helms in 1968 and was soon playing on a regular basis at The Fillmore West. A short time later Devil’s Kitchen became the house band at Helms’ Family Dog Ball-room on The Great Highway in San Francisco and remained there in that capacity from the spring of 1968 until the summer of 1970. Devil’s Kitchen played all the major venues in The Bay Area and Los Angeles during this time period, opening for and playing frequently with many very well-known bands, including The Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Allman Brothers, Big Brother And The Holding Company with Janis, The Charlatans and many, many others. The band spurned a recording contract offer from Mercury Records in 1968, displeased with the lack of creative control offered them by the label. Consequently, they never released any recordings. There are eight original unreleased tracks on this album and all were taken from the original master tapes that were recorded in 1969 at The Family Dog Ballroom On The Great Highway in San Francisco and the Sierra Sound Recording Studio in Berkeley. The music has a great and unmistakable late 60’s acid-drenched West Coast guitar-driven blues-psych sound with snakey electric slide and roaring fuzz guitar throughout, provided by the talented Robbie Stokes who later went on to play with Quicksilver Messenger Service and appeared on Mickey Hart’s 1972 “Rolling Thunder” LP, just to mention two of his many musical credits. The discovery of these master tapes and this subsequent release of Devil’s Kitchen’s first full length album, more than forty years after the recordings were made, is an exciting find for the collectors of obscure 60’s psychedelia. How a great band like this remained under the radar and unreleased for all these years is mystifying. Limited pressing of 1,000 hand-numbered copies. Welcome again to the great San Francisco sound of the late 1960’s! LP $21 SKU:12995

HONEST JOHN - SAILOR (Unreleased underground Texas hard rock from 1975)-Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) Unreleased underground Texas hard rock from 1975! First release anywhere, anytime! Heavy grooves with dense, layered guitars and Deep Purple/Black Sabbath style vocals from bassist T.J. Sanders. Honest John was a band that meant business at a time when most bands were softening their sound for radio. Not these guys! Honest John did release an extremely rare 7" on the Baron label (BRN45006): slinky track 'Brighter Day' b/w the chunky and hard driving 'Face the Crowd'); but that was all that ever emerged from the sessions until now. It was in fact all the world knew of Honest John, aside from folks blown away by hearing them on tour in Texas playing frat parties, bars, military bases, and sleazy rock clubs in the early 1970's. Honest John's "Sailor" is a living, breathing tribute to Ottis Coleman, who should have long ago been celebrated as a true Texas guitar great. Features Coleman's stellar guitar and engineered by future Mojave Audio honcho and key figure in 1970's rock in Houston, Dusty Wakeman. Coleman and Wakeman both later joined Houston blues rockers Buzz Bone, which featured Dan Mitchell and Tom Moore post-Moving Sidewalks. But it has always been the Honest John sessions that they longed to have released. We at Lion Productions are proud to present the album Honest John wanted to release, at long long last. A small press run of 500x copies, housed in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket, sourced from original master tapes. A definitive statement of heaviness. •Underground Texas hard rock from 1975 •First release anywhere, anytime! •Sourced from original master tapes •Small press run of 500x copies, housed in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket. a link to an mp3 sampler, which has a little taste of every track on the record: LP $24 SKU:19272

JOINT EFFORT-Final Effort (intriguing folk/rock/psych 1974) Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS (USA) With its immediately recognizable M C Escher cover, this intriguing folk/rock/psych release from 1974 is another incredibly rare album enjoying its first legitimate reissue. A Joint Effort's Final Effort was originally recorded and released by Canada's University Of New Brunswick on its Little Records label (Little Records 101); despite its lack of wider recognition, this is generally regarded by those who know as a diverse and eclectic album with a number of outstanding tracks. One pundit described it as 'a weird mix of early CSNY, with shades of Perth County Conspiracy and a dash of early Eagles thrown in.' The first side, with the superb 'Winter' is particularly impressive—largely acoustic hippy folk rock with the occasional electric guitar thrown in for good measure. Side two, however, is an altogether rockier affair with standout tracks 'Greed For Goldand,' an up-tempo fuzzed-out cover of ‘A Horse With No Name’ combining effectively to elevate Final Effort to a different musical plane. Original cover has been reproduced as well as rare original insert. LP $14 SKU:19256

KHAZAD DOOM- CHERRY TOWN (One of the rarest and best of all U.S private psychedelic garage pressings)Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS (USA) Recorded in 1967 prior to the legendary' Level 6 1/2' album, this is a brilliant album of fantasy Beatles-esque garage psychedelia. The whole package on vinyl and CD sounds and looks brilliant; limited 700 pressing on black vinyl with brilliant color cover and incredible color songbook with each album. In 1964 the band who was later to be called Khazad Doom started to dream of ‘making it’ in Bob Davis’ basement in Morton Grove, Illinois. After twenty-nine members and multiple names (The Vibratos, The Laymen), three musicians and a ‘Crow,’ they formally became Khazad Doom and the legend was born. Jack Eadon, Tom Sievers, Steve "Al" Yates and Steve "Crow" Hilkin became the band that was full of talent, dreams and perserverence." LP $14 SKU:19255

KHAZAD DOOM- Level 6 1/2 (One of the rarest and best of all U.S private psychedelic garage pressings)) -Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS (USA) MPORT “Khazad Doom! Level 6 1/2! One of the rarest and best of all U.S private psychedelic garage pressings. This is it boys, the legend, the album, the music, that has led us down the ever twining world of collecting private pressings. And we were never to be the same after it was made... In 1964 the band who was later to be called Khazad Doom started to dream of "making it" in Bob Davis’ basement in little ol' Morton Grove, Illinois. After 29 members and multiple names (The Vibratos, The Laymen), three musicians and a "Crow", they formally became Khazad Doom and the legend was born. Jack Eadon, Tom Sievers, Steve "Al" Yates and Steve "Crow" Hilkin became the band that was full of talent, dreams and perserverence. The original album "Level 6 1/2" was released circa 1971 in reportedly just 180 copies making it a mega rarity immediately. Of course who would care about an obscure piece of psychedelic conceptual vinyl? The answer... many collectors worldwide rate the album in the top 5 of all private domestic releases ever! In fact, originals fetch over four figures now! This reissue of just 800 copies, and features the original album plus one cut that was taken from their unreleased second album. The compelling original cover art was kept in tact to enhance this presentation. Put this great album on, sit back and take that much needed trip with Khazad Doom to Level 6 1/2 and beyond...” LP $14 SKU:6279

OWEN MAERCKS-Teenage Sex Therapist (Colored Vinyl) Ltd ed of 500 w booklet and lyric sheet. SALE -Label:FEEDING TUBE RECORDS 2015 repress on maroon-and-red-swirl vinyl; includes booklet, lyric sheets, and download code. Edition of 500. "Owen Maercks's Teenage Sex Therapist LP is one of the forgotten twisted pop masterpieces of the Twentieth Century. Owen had been in Monster Island with Henry Kaiser, who proposed he do a solo album or his songs. Henry had moved back west by this time, so Owen went out and recorded this album there. Henry produced, and added amazing horn parts by Jon Oswald, Larry Ochs, and John Gruntfest. In 1978, the album was mixed, pressed, and distributed exclusively to radio stations, record labels, and the like, in hopes of getting Owen signed. The music didn't fit any extant pigeonhole, however, so no deal was in the offing. About the only note of its passing was made by an A&R guy at Elektra, who swiped the arrangement (and lyric rearrangement) of 'Little Black Egg' (originally by The Nightcrawlers) for use by his protégées, The Cars. Well, fuck them. Teenage Sex Therapist is ripe with jaw-drop moves. Flashes of Eno, Beefheart, Lou Reed, The Bonzos, and various of Owen's other obsessions fight each other for air time. And everyone goes away a winner. If this one doesn't make your teeth wiggle, you need a new jaw." --Byron Coley, 2014 LP $14 SKU:16551

PIP PROUD - A FRAYING SPACE w liners and lyrics SALE -Label:EM RECORDS (JAPAN) Pip Proud, sui generis, could be considered an Australian outsider, with his untutored and uninhibited singing style, his primal guitar playing, his resolutely personal vision captured on recordings from 1967 to the early 70s - except that, unlike most outsiders, he was loved and accepted, with two of his three album releases on a major label, with frequent television appearances and coverage in music magazines. Heralded in his native land though he was, he maintained a low profile from the early 70s, never made an impact overseas, and his recordings have been difficult to access. This collection has been selected by Proud's biographer David Nichols and will engender a new appreciation of Proud's music. Considered by some as a sort of Antipodean Syd Barrett, listeners will hear that Pip was clearing his own private and primal path, more poet than pop star, despite the media attention. Other than one Velvets-style band track, all songs here feature Pip solo, some with appealingly primitive overdubs. Fans of ramshackle oddball weirdo portastudio lofi bedroom pop of the 80s, 90s and beyond, whether of the NZ, UK or US varieties, will find a precursor here. 'A Fraying Space' also features liner notes by David Nichols as well as Proud's lyrics. LP $18 SKU:16094

PROMISE- ST ( 80s Beatlesque power pop ala Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc. ) w liners -Label:GOT KINDA LOST RECORDS (SPAIN) LP version. If you're continuously searching the margins for lost artifacts of the pop pantheon, you can find your daily dose in late period exponents of pure, lean, Beatlesque power pop band Promise. Originally issued in 1980 on the Boulder, Colorado, area band's own Cumulus label, their eponymous debut is filled with melodic, beatific blasts of pure pop, replete with ringing, jangly guitars and rollicking crunch. Co-led by singer-songwriters and guitarists Curt Mangan and Danny Mey -- with aid provided by the just-right rhythms of bassist Randy Jones and drummer Gary York -- the group created an album with precious little allying it to the punk-inspired power pop or prescient new wave of the time, instead choosing to hone in on a classicist pop sound highly indebted to those famous moptops from Liverpool. Abetted by the fact that some of the group's members had been playing together since their teenage combos of the mid '60s, the album carries an out-of-time flair across surging rockers and mournful balladry. Got Kinda Lost Records is ecstatic to give this benchmark of privately pressed power pop another chance to shine with this first ever reissue. Includes exhaustive liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things Magazine) culled from interviews with Mangan and Mey. RIYL: Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc.
"An exciting, terrific British Invasion-styled guitar pop album full of catchy, memorable hooks, displaying a tougher, 'rock' edge than most of its ilk and some excellent softer songs. Equally recommended to power pop and '60s rock fans." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives LP $24 SKU:16535

PURE HELL-Noise Addiction (1978 recordings)-Label:BEAT GENERATION (Spain) Beat Generation presents a reissue of Pure Hell sole full-length album, recorded in 1978 but not released until 2006. In 1974, on the streets of Philadelphia, a band unlike any other was formed. They called themselves Pretty Poison. They had a sound so ahead of its time that the music industry was not yet ready for it. They coupled the punk sound of the New York bands of the time with a harder, faster heavy metal edge unheard before. Their unique sound was a result of Kenny Gordon's berserk choreography and Preston Morris's needling guitar riffs, while Steel and Spider added synchronized barrage with no nonsense execution to the arsenal. Inspired by the famous fuel-altered dragster, they changed their name to Pure Hell in 1975. Soon after, they moved to New York City where they played with bands like the New York Dolls, Sid Vicious, Wayne County and the Electric Chairs, The Dead Boys, The Stimulators, Richard Hell,The Germs, The Nuns, The Cramps and more. In 1978 Pure Hell headlined a tour of the UK, with bands like the UK Subs, Wilko Johnson, Vermilion & the Aces and more opening for them. While in the UK, their only original record was released. It was a single released by their manager Curtis Knight on his label, Golden Sphinx Records. The songs on the single were "These Boots Were Made for Walking" and "No Rules." The single charted in the top 40 charts in the UK. During the same year, a full length album was recorded but was never released. It did not surface again for 28 years. Limited edition of 500 copies. LP $19 SKU:17451

PURLING HISS- Lounge Lizards-Live At Cantones, Boston 1982 (psych pop) Label:MEXICAN SUMMER "After a series of three LPs which alternated between mind's eye-gouging psychedelic excess and pine-scented woodshedding of pop tunes, here comes the logical endpoint between both: Lounge Lizards, six songs that stick around like sedan carpet matted with spilled Pepsi and Pat's wrappers, a hard drill that penetrates historical musical hits, like the Cars through Dinosaur Jr through Monoshock and into the cold, acrid air of present times." LP $15 SKU:13169

QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE - Live at Fillmore East, Friday, June 7, 1968 2LPLabel:VINYL LOVERS As everyone knows, Quicksilver Messenger Service at their peak in 1968 were one of the greatest live bands the world has ever seen. Rather than some foggy hearsay legend, proof of their prowess is available via a few live recordings fortunately preserved from oblivion. This one is a particularly devastating night at the Fillmore East in June 1968. LP $26 SKU:17268

ALEX- ST PLUS THATS THE DEAL (1976 TURK ROCK)Label:GERMANOFON His first two LP's from 1974 and 1976 on one CD, complete and with all original jacket artwork and lyrics. Now performs as Alex Oriental Experience. "A singer and multi instrumentalist from Cologne who released several albums which were strongly influenced by the ethnic music of Turkey. His first two albums are now eagerly hunted by collectors, as they featured a unique style of 'Turk-Rock' with stunning baglama solos (this is a kind of three-stringed Turkish guitar)! They were recorded with the help of Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit (possibly adding bass and drums on certain tracks?) at Can's Inner Space studio, so take note all you Can collectors!" (Cosmic Dreams At Play) and from elsewhere: “Magnificent Kraut meets Oriental albums by one of the considered pioneers of the genre. Members of Can participated in these first two records (including Jaki Liebezeit, Helmut Hattler, Horst Stachelhaus, and others). These two first records of Alex Wiska came with simply his name, Alex, and are very oriental/Turkish rock oriented. His later records under the name Alex Oriental Experience are much more space rock/kraut oriented. Many comparisons were made with the Turkish band Cem Karaca. Great saz tunes by Alex and good accompanied by some of the brightest names of German rock scene. Highly recommended... not to be missed!” CD $10 SKU:19034

NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE-Powerglide (country psych)-Label:LION In the days before genre obsession, a rock and roll fervour drew on a rediscovery of blue grass, folk, blues and ‘country music’. Add to the mix consciousness-expansion afforded by the proliferation of psychedelic drugs, and the music scene of the West Coast of America percolated, powered by this heady brew. At the heart of this experiment in new music and consciousness the New Riders of The Purple Sage were born. The history of the New Riders will forever be intertwined with that of their fellow travelers the Grateful Dead. Both bands shared a down-home vibe, and shared members for recording dates. Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead co-founded the New Riders with John Dawson and David Nelson as an opportunity to play pedal steel guitar—although he plays banjo and dobro on Powerglide, first released in 1972. Dawson and Nelson returned the favor, playing on Dead masterpieces "American Beauty" and "Workingman’s Dead". Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart of the Dead rounded out the New Riders rhythm section until David Torbert took over on bass and Spencer Dryden of Jefferson Airplane fame took over on drums. Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzman plays percussion on this album. To add to all that star power, noted British pianist Nicky Hopkins (Beatles, Kinks, Stones) played keyboards on Powerglide. Dave Torbert's ‘California Day’ is a gem, a hymn to the West Coast with some beautiful slide and fuzz guitar work; ‘Contract,’ is an equally impressive blend of country rock and old west imagery. NRPS's cover of 'Willie and the Hand Jive' has a distinctly Grateful Dead jam vibe to it. This wasn’t music desperate for chart success, it was a soundtrack to an outlaw, countercultural lifestyle that aimed to escape the city and get away to the mountains. So, saddle up! LP $18 SKU:18630

PASSING FANCY- ST 60s Canadian sunshine pop-psych w new liners -Label:LION

  • First legit LP reissue of this much beloved Canadian pop-psych rarity!
•Insert with rare photos, lyrics and band history
    •Limited to 500 copies
Rare yet much beloved Canadian pop-psych record from 1968—an album considered by many to be the best to come out of Canada during the late 1960’s! Built around the talents of singer/guitarist Jay Tefler and bassist Fergus Hambleton, A Passing Fancy made their name in Toronto's vibrant Yorkville Village scene. That initial successes playing Toronto's club circuit led to a headlining stint at the 1967 Toronto Expo. The resulting publicity saw them "discovered" by Columbia Records, who subsequently released a string of four outstanding pop/psych singles. Here's where it gets weird. In spite of the four hit singles, Columbia elected not to release an album. Indie label Boo Records was formed to release "A Passing Fancy" on LP (the singles plus four additional tracks). Although the LP received strong reviews, Boo Records couldn't sustain promotion; by the end of the year the band had called it quits. A shame, as it's a terrific album—tough edgy rock (slashing lead track and hit single, ‘I’m Losing Tonight’); pop/psych (singles tracks ‘A Passing Fancy,’ ‘You're Going Out Of Your Mind,’ and ‘She Phoned’); sunshine pop (‘I Believe in Sunshine’); a great acid rock meltdown (‘Your Trip’). Something for everybody! As usual, we went all out to try to produce a top-notch reissue. A few years of searching led us to A Passing Fancy lead singer, rhythm guitarist, primary song-writer, and later, screenwriter (1977's Kid Vengeance, starring Jim Brown, Lee Van Cleef and Leif Garrett is his), the late Jay Telfer. He supplied a band history and lyrics for all the songs to round out this reissue.

PEPPERMINT RAINBOW- Will You Be Staying After Sunday (60s BUBBLEGUM Pop ) -Label:REVOLA Baltimore quintet The Peppermint Rainbow scored a U.S. Top 10 hit in 1969 with the super-groovy 'Will You Be Staying After Sunday.' Produced by 'Green Tambourine' hit maker Paul Leka, the album that followed featured 10 more slices of juicy bubblegum pop including a second Top 10 smash, 'Don't Wake Me Up In The Morning, Michael.' The band cut two further singles both added here but by late '69s it was all over as the sound of love faded from the airwaves. First time on CD in the UK for this bubblegum classic. Re-mastered by Norman 'I'll 'ave you Butler' Blake. Liner notes by popmeister supreme Duglas T. Stewart! Lovely packaging by Pepperbox. Essential for all fans of U.S. bubblegum, harmony pop and just plain full-on grooviness LP $12 SKU:18732

PHAST PHREDDIE- And the Precisions backroom find! - Label:MARTIAN/ Bomp Very rare co-release from 1984. Going for big bucks on Amazon One of the founding members of the group was Jeffrey Lee Pierce—who quit (before Thee Precisions played live) when he formed his own group, The Gun Club, which achieved well-deserved critical and international fame Another important member was Steve Berlin. His outstanding tenor saxophone playing kept the group from becoming a bunch of crazies biting off more than they could chew. The exposure he received playing with Thee Precisions directly led him to play and/or record with such acts as The Plimsouls, The Blasters, The Plugz, The Flesheaters, Los Lobos and The Go-Go’s. Also, Steve’s musical skills kept the group from performing trite arrangements of their original material.
unique roots-based music with recognizable influences of swing, be-bop, R&B, soul, garage rock, psychedelia and free jazz. They liked to call what they did “Rockin’ R&B-Bop” in order to take it all in. LP $10 SKU:17170

PLEASE -Seeing Stars 68 UK psych TWEAKED COVER BARGAIN! Label:ACME Still shrink wrapped, but there is about a 2" area of seam damage, doesnt look split all the way thru but you can see a white area on the seam. The eleven cuts on Seeing Stars had never even seen the light of day until this CD was put out by Acme. Members of Please were apparently later in a couple of other bands, Bulldog Breed and T2. Some of these tracks remind me of early Pink Floyd, pretty much because of the keyboard arrangements, like "Words To Say", "Before", the wailing "Still Dreaming" (possibly the disc's best tune), "Secrets", "Who You Know" and "But". I thought "Time Goes By" had the characteristics of perhaps an early unreleased King Crimson B-side. Seeing Stars has nicely-done vocals, soaring mellotron, fluid guitar work and cleverly constructed songs to offer it's listeners. It's so good that on the first listen you'll fully understand as to why ' true psychedelia' has never really died, if you don't already.Truly great early British psych that gets better with each play. Line-up: Peter Dunton - keyboards, lead vocals & drums, Bernie Jinks - bass & backing vocals and Nick Spenser - drums. Should appeal to fans of early Floyd, Tomorrow, The Move, Yes, solo Syd Barrett and The Doors. A real keeper. Reviewed by Mike Reed LP $10 SKU:18760

POPPEES -Pop Goes The Anthology ( ltd ed ORANGE vinyl powerpop ) -Label:BOMP The Poppees were one of the creators and the embodiment of what soon came to be known as the "Power Pop" sound of the late 70s. This long overdue anthology finally gives this notable and highly underrated band its due, elegantly chronicling the Poppees short but influential role in the history of the New York New Wave scene of the late 70's. While anchored around their two classic Bomp singles, "If She Cries/Love of The Loved" (the latter track produced by Craig Leon of the Ramones fame), and "Jealousy/She's Got It" (produced by Cyril Jordan of the Flamin' Groovies), "Pop Goes The Anthology" features never before released recordings, including demos, early live recordings, and culminating with a rip-roaring live performance at CBGB. It is complete with liner notes and unpublished photos. "After all, what would be more punk at that time than being in the Poppees - a band that emulated the early Beatles, from their moptops to their Cuban heels?" - WFMUFormed in In the mid-'70s in New York by Bob Waxman, Arthur Alexander, Paddy Lorenzo, and Donny Jackrel, later replaced by Jet Harris. PREVOST, GREG "STACKHOUSE”-UNIVERSAL VAGRANT-((Stones,Yardbirds ,NY Dolls style).)Label:MEAN DISPOSITION After a career lasting close to four decades, it was only two years ago when Greg decided to launch his first solo record: the celebrated "Mississippi Murderer”, an album where Delta blues and hi-energy R&R were combined in a masterful mix heavily influenced by the likes of the Stones, the Yardbirds and NY Dolls. This recording has become a cult classic, but the ever adventurous Prevost is now back with a brand new artifact: "Universal Vagrant". This second album goes one step further than his previous waxing and can be safely described as the best recording in his long and illustrious career. It also confirms what those in the know already knew: the fact that Prevost is a top-notch songwriter, one of the coolest R&R singers ever, and that he has a deep understanding of the roots of his music...be them the original blues greats ("Moanin' The Blues", "Mean Red Spider"); the personal idols inscribed in his DNA, Keith Richards and Johnny Thunders ("Gin Soaked Time Warp", "Shot of Rock and Roll", or the superb, gospel-oriented "Lord Shine a Light on Me"), as well as the dark, dangerous Stooges-infused sounds ("Evil On My Mind" or his killer version of "Codine"). Here you have the results: a perfect production, an explosive sound, a recording cooked with ease and among friends, but with edge, attitude and sheer class. This is a first rate R&R album where all pieces fit neatly. No mean feat. LP $16 SKU:18291
