JADE STONE AND LUV -Mosaics, Pieces of Stone(lost gem from the psych 70s )-Label:Subliminal Sound The sole album from male-female duo Jade Stone & Luv is a lost gem from the heart of the psychedelic 1970s. Composed and self-produced in Nashville, "Mosaics; Pieces Of Stone" went unnoticed by the music industry upon release. Fortunately for us, it didnt disappear forever, but simply went into retreat, biding its time. While almost unknown outside specialist circles, "Mosaics" has been an underground cult favorite for many years. The combination of top-level songwriting, skillful guitar/keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals is just too impressive to ignore. And beyond these obvious qualities, the album has something subtle and unique, a magnetic power that keeps drawing the listener back. One of Jade Stone & Luv's earliest advocates was the legendary New York City musicologist Paul Major. Heres a typical Major impression of the music on "Mosaics": "Groovy love vibes thru a prism of jade statues in swinging singles apartment complex action... Cadillac with fuzzy dice, feather boa, lotsa cigarette burns, stale perfumed ashen air. This album in the 8-track player at 5 AM with someone you don't even know passed out in the backseat, as you head to the diner to meet up with an early-bird Lava Lite salesman who deals pills on the side. JOE WITH THE FLOWER TRAVELLIN' BAND- The Times ( 60s Yuya Uchida ) digipack - Label:PHOENIX RECORDS (UK) Although post-Group Scene band Flowers were gaining increasing popularity in late '60s Tokyo, founder and guiding light Yuya Uchida was becoming increasingly frustrated that cult status was not translating into commercial success. Watching a rehearsal for the Tokyo version of the hit U.S. musical Hair, Uchida's wily gaze fell upon the Afro-sporting cast member Yamanaka Akira aka Joe. Uchida liked what he saw and heard so much, that he invited Joe to sing guest lead vocals at the next Flowers gig, and so impressed was he with the audience's response to the singer's opening number, that he knew a direction-changing discovery had been made. Gone was Flowers and in its place, Flower Travellin' Band emerged with a whole new sound and a charismatic and talented front man leading the charge, a relentless process that would see the singer become the sound of FTB with his career ascending as the fortunes of the band decreased. Eventually, the inevitable happened and Uchida disbanded FTB in 1975, after which the band's record label, Atlantic, offered the world one final, posthumous release in a greatest hits package, The Times, with the artist as "Joe With The Flower Travellin' Band" becoming the band's epitaph. By this time, anyone with an interest in psychedelia that stretches beyond the Beatles or maybe Strawberry Alarm Clock (at a pinch), knows who July is. Well, at least they know that a band called July put out a super rare album that is considered by many to be one of the pinnacles of the psychedelic era. There's no way to overstate the excellence of the album, with its eerie sound, Indian-influenced chord sequences, studio trickery (tape loops/phasing), and heavily reverb-laden vocals. But that’s not the story we’re here to tell. Even before that quintessential psychedelic album was made, band leader Tom Newman was experimenting with home recording equipment. In 1967, he installed basic recording facilities in the bedroom of his flat in an old Victorian house in Ealing. There, he and guitarist Peter Cook tried out ideas, coming up with many of the standout songs from the July album. The demos they recorded display the kind of confidence that Newman feels was lacking in the album proper (yes, the ultra- famous psychedelic classic album!) that they recorded in 1968. Let’s go back to the near-beginning of it all, to a flat in a Victorian house in Ealing, and listen in on demos recorded with DIY alacrity by a studio whiz, tracks which will change the face of psychedelia, eventually, after decades of obscurity.

A catchy blend of hard-edged pop and rock, with meaty guitar and organ interplay, it boasts the talents of long-term Iggy Pop and Tom Petty sideman Scott Thurston, and deserves a far wider audience than it has enjoyed thus far. Originally released on the "United Artists" label in 1971 (although it's earlier recordings date from 1969), via production company "Sahara Records", the 'Reg King' album is a neglected 'lost classic'. Long sought-after by collectors, with original copies regularly achieving three-figure sums, this record features all original King/Dale material, with backing from the highly-respected musicians of "B.B. Blunder" (ex-Blossom Toes) and "Mighty Baby" (ex-The Action). Other 'stellar' names making their musical contributions to this album include Mick Taylor, Steve Winwood, Elton Dean and Brian Auger. In addition, a whole host of other musicians at the cutting edge of the British Jazz and Underground Rock scenes of the time assist in different places. A particularly essential purchase for any fan of The Action or Mighty Baby: Check-out the musicianship and Reg's emotive, soulful voice on this, the final stage of his professional career. KING RICHARD & THE KNIGHTS - Precision ( excellent new mexico 60's garag ) - SAALE Label:COLLECTABLES This Albuquerque, NM outfit, also known as The Knights, had outlasted most of its contemporaries, albeit with a 30 year hiatus in the middle, mostly by virtue of the quality of their singles, which turned them into local stars. King Richard and the Knights started out in 1961 as a Ventures-type instrumental outfit, playing surf instrumentals and throwing in the occasional Chuck Berry-authored vocal number for variety. By 1964, they'd evolved sufficiently to rate a recording contract with Red Feather, who scored with the Knights' first release, "Precision," which became a regional hit in the southwest and rode the No. 1 spot on Albuquerque's top radio station for weeks. The band's classic line-up consisted of Dick Stewart (aka "King Richard) on lead guitar and vocals, Larry Longmire on lead and rhythm guitar, and Corky Anderson (later succeeded by Jack Paden) on drums, with Larry Reid handling the saxophone and some vocals. The group's bassists included Gary Butler and Gary Snow. (all copies have a small cut out hole in inlay) CD $5 SKU:10149

Los Free Minds was a Mexican Psychedelic Rock trio, formed in 1970 by Jorge Aguilera (guitar, vocals), Jesús Perez [El Jali] and drummer Ernesto Ontiveros. Although invited, the band could not take part in the legendary rock event the Festival de Avándaro held in September 1971; after that, rock music was banned for many years in Mexico, which killed the careers of many bands.
