BACHELOR PAD-ALLHASH AND COCK -THE VERY BEST OF-(80s Psych indie punk poppers)Label:EMOTIONAL RESPONSE During the '80s and early '90s, Glasgow's psychedelic indie-punk poppers Bachelor Pad released some astonishing music, bringing to mind The Buzzcocks fronted by Syd Barrett! BARNEY JAMES & WARHORSE - Koneg, The Second Coming (70s lost heavy prog) Label:SEELIE COURT (ONE SIDE ONLY!) Fresh from the incredible success of Rick Wakeman's early concept LPs Barney James (drummer with Wakeman's band and member of Gracious) and his ex-band mates Warhorse made this sensational lost heavy prog LP as a promo acetate. Musically complex it begins with a spoken intro and tells the tale of Koneg Son Of Odin, as he quests to find meaning and death in battle. Keyboards and guitar interweave, with further spoken interludes, and culminating in an epic prog workout featuring fluid soloing electric leads. Only one copy exists of this heavy melodic progressive concept LP valued in excess of £10,000. The original gold handmade cover is reproduced as a gatefold. Sleevenotes by Rick Wakeman. LP $20 SKU:24680
BISCUIT -TIME FOR ANSWERS (60s style psych freakbeat) -SAALE! Label:NO TOMORROW Biscuit is one of those (rare) bands than take their inspiration mainly from 60s sounds (beat, garage, psychedelia, freakbeat, hard-rock, folk-rock, soul, rocknroll) but do not sound like just another 60s band. Their sound is uniquely their own, and trying to compare them to another band is so silly that lazy reviewers come out with comparisons as diverse as Urge Overkill, Soundtracks of Our Lives, the Byrds or The Prisoners in the same line. Which of course are all wrong. What is sure right is that these guys have a good thing going when it comes to combine meaty, solid guitar riffs with beautiful melodies. They know the secret of how to make well-crafted, passionate songs, the kind that grow with every listen. They can rock as fuck one minute and melt your heart the next. You can feel the anger, rage and desperation in their songs, but also the gratefulness, love and tenderness. You can feel the people behind the music. In a phrase, they've got soul. In my book, a truely classic record". LP $19 SKU:19899
BLACK GREMLIN -The Fun is Over (The MC5, The Pink Fairies, Motörhead style) SAALE! Label: RETRO VOX Based in Parma, Black Gremlin releases 12 shameless tracks full of attitude and ignorance. Compared to the band's previous EP, this album sounds slightly more retro. Influences include The MC5, The Pink Fairies, Motörhead, Zeke and Thin Lizzy's rowdy and rough rock'n'roll. The whole thing is dressed up with the sharp riffs and the fast rhythms of early '80s thrash metal and hc punk LP $19 SKU:23485
BOKAJ RETSIEM -PSYCHEDELIC UNDERGROUND (67 German explotation) Hendrix, Animals style) LTd ed BLUE 180 GRAM Label:FUTURE SHOCK This 1967 German exploitation LP features fuzzed out vibrato guitar, wailing organs, and strong english vocakls very much like Hendrix, The Animals, Vanilla Fudge, and Iron Butterfly. A real psychedelic trip! LP $19 SKU:24523
BRIGG- ST (collectable psych/folk/hard-rock album from 1973.) SAALE Label:GUERSSEN First ever legit vinyl reissue, sanctioned by the band members, of this collectable psych/folk/hard-rock album from 1973. Brigg were a rural Pennsylvania folk-tinged psychedelic band formed by three high school friends: Rob Morse, Jeff Willoughby, and Rusty Foulke. In 1973, they borrowed the money to record their first album together. They called it Brigg after one member saw the name in a dream. It was recorded at a grocery store converted into a 4-track studio. The photos for the cover were taken in a purportedly haunted house in Danville. The band members pressed 1000 copies and sold some to their friends but never played a live show together. They divided the remaining copies between them and went their separate ways. Several decades later, the Brigg album became a collector's item and was bootlegged all over the world. Original artwork in heavy cardboard sleeve; Insert with liner notes and photos. "A mix of basement hardrock and rural hippie prog-folk" --Patrick Lundborg (Acid Archives). LP $22 SKU:24903
CARNEY, JEFF- Live Electronic Music- (hypnotic 80s underground) SAALE! Label:LION Jeff Carney's sophomore effort for audioFile (1989) could not have been criticized were it to have remained in similar territory as the electronic wall of sound he had created on Imperfect Space Journeys. Instead, he created a more sparse, evolving tapestry of analog timbres. Using an exclusively vintage analog arsenal and recording live without overdubbing, Carney pushed forward with new ideas and uniquely developing sweeps of filter madness. The side-long 'Questions (Unanswered)’ is immensely innovative: the sounds are at once organic and of the earth, yet futuristic in their skyward drones and hypnotic hooks. Additional layers are gradually added, like a bubbling alien swarm tone that comes in successive falling surges, followed by cosmic whooshing and howling rushes of wind. The effect is simultaneously meditative and intense.
And live. As Carney said, "I was quite proud because I managed to essentially perform the entire composition without error. Just about every sound came in at the right level. Every part was performed without mistake. And nothing was adjusted or corrected. This was what happened on the spot.” Carney explores different territory on the two B-side tracks: ‘ARP 2600 Improvisation’ is like a master class of cosmic effects. It feels like the soundtrack to a 1950s sci-fi movie, recalling Forbidden Planet’s most electrifying moments, but also at times sounding like sci-fi flick meets battle-in-space video game. ‘Pensive Mood’ roars out of the starting gate with a high octane electronic arpeggiated pattern, creating a somewhat white-knuckled brand of “pensive” contemplation. This is the most minimal piece of the set, with the incessant, almost imperceptibly evolving arrangement having a somewhat edge-of-your-seat hypnotic effect.
The album was completely uninfluenced by the digital trends that were dominating the era, and stands as a landmark example of the uncompromising ethos adopted by many artists of the 1980's underground. Featuring an all new essay and interview with Jeff Carney by Jerry Kranitz (author of the "Cassette Culture" book and publisher for nearly two decades of Aural Innovations), this is the definitive reissue of Live Electronic Music.
•24bit/96kHz transfers taken from the original analog tapes
•Mastered for vinyl by legendary Krautrock musician and sound engineer Eroc
•Recorded live without overdubbing using exclusively vintage analog equipment
•Comes with an eight-page LP-sized color insert booklet written by Jerry Kranitz (author of Cassette Culture and publisher for nearly two decades of Aural Innovations) LP $14 SKU:24941

FOX- For Fox Sake (1970 UK PSYCH ZOMBIES STYLE)- SAALELabel:SOMMER Originally released in 1970 but sounding more akin to ‘67-68, “For Fox Sake” is a superb example of UK psych, highly recommended if you’re into APPLE, KOOBAS, ZOMBIES, OCTOPUS, SKIP BIFFERTY, SPENCER DAVIS GROUP, RUBBLES. First ever vinyl reissue with original UK artwork. Remastered sound and insert with photos / memorabilia plus liner notes by band member Steve Brayne. Formed in Brighton in 1968 with roots to the mod-soul scene, The Fox consisted of Steve (Stephen) Brayne on lead guitar & vocals, Winston Weatherill (ex-Gary Farr & The T-Bones) on lead guitar & sitar, Alex Lane on keyboards & vocals, Tim Reeves on drums and Dave Windross on bass. During their brief existence they supported The Herd and opened for David Bowie. Their sound was loud and righteous with great vocal harmonies, tight rhythm section and wonderful keyboard /guitar solos. After getting signed to a London management, they recorded their only LP in one session and they had it released in the UK on the Fontana label and on the USA on Crewe, featuring a different cover. Sadly, the band broke up following year and since the inclusion of “Butterfly” in one of the Rubbles comps several decades later, they've become a cult group among psych collectors LP $18 SKU:22891

Shotgun had a successful career in and around Dallas, TX between 1974 and 1977, playing the club circuit and recording at the cities best studios. STYRENES-Silver Daggers/'Heavy Streets-Label:THERMIONIC Paul Marotta from the Styrenes and Mike Hudson (RIP) from the Pagans grew up together in Cleveland, a friendship best described as "mercurial” — so much so, that their twin energies could only be contained simultaneously on rare occasions before sparks would fly again. APHRODITE'S CHILD - It’s Five O Clock (1969 pop psych)Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) The first single, ‘Let Me Love, Let Me Live,’ released in October 1969, made it to a number one position in the French charts, but it was the B-side ‘Marie Jolie’ that was most popular in the rest of Europe. The title track ‘It's Five O'clock’ quickly followed the same path; released in December 1969, it did well in the charts of many European countries. Dream-like, baroque, carefully crafted pop/psych with English lyrics, in some ways very much in the style of English bands of the era, but with that little twist that makes it very special; three bonus tracks include rare singles; lyrics and photos too in the 16-page booklet. CD $10 SKU:18951

FALLEN ANGELS- Mad Hatters Meet The Fallen Angels (unreleased 1966 Byrds style) Label:CICADELIC In 1965, Barry Seidel formed a music company called Traydel Productions. The first band Seidel signed was the Mad Hatters from Washington DC. In the course of one year the band released three stunningly great singles, 'I Need Love,' 'Go Find a Love' and 'I'll Come Running,' all with Dylanesque-PF Sloan sounding folk-rock songs as the B-sides. Mad Hatter live shows were legendary as well, as is exemplified by the explosion of the amps during their electrifying medley of 'Since You've Been Gone/I'm All Right/The Mad Hatter Theme' and their rocking version of 'I Need Love,' both included on this album along with all their singles, making this the most complete collection of Mad Hatters' material ever released. The Fallen Angels were the second band Seidel signed and they are represented by a six song set of singles and unreleased recordings from 1966. These are the earliest recordings by the band and range from folk-rock ('Pebble In My Sand,' 'Hello Girl,' 'I Have Found') to Love (Arthur Lee) type ballads ('Have You Ever Lost A Love,' 'Every Time I Fall In Love') and garage ('Who Do You Love?'). In addition to all this excitement are two previously unreleased 1966 folk-rock Byrds sounding gems from the Loved Ones, plus a 1967 version of 'I Need Love' by the Time Stoppers. Rare photos and radio promos make this a complete trip back to 1966, when the Mad Hatters and the Fallen Angels were the two hottest bands in Washington DC and 'I Need Love' mania swept the airwaves." CD $10 SKU:19087
FOUR LEVELS OF EXISTENCE - ST LTd edition ( 70’s Greek psych, 24 page booklet, rare photos best Greek psychedelic album ever recorded?? ) -Label:lLION A twenty-four page booklet includes historical background on the Greek music scene of the early 1970’s, details of the band’s past written by Alatas, rare photos of the group, as well as lyrics in both Greek and English. This second CD edition is strictly limited to 1,000 copies.Slightly revamped second edition of an album that many people consider to be the best Greek psychedelic album ever recorded, a belief that would mean that the Four Levels of Existence LP would supersede albums by artists like Axis, Aphrodite’s Child, Socrates, and George Romanos. We’ll let you decide the argument, for there is no doubt of one thing—that this is tremendous hard edged psychedelic rock, originally released on LP in a very small quantity by the private Venus label in 1976. CD $10 SKU:19944
GONZALEZ, WALLY -Wally on the Road 70s (heavy acid blues psych)-Label:VICOR ENTERTAINMENT (Philippines) First off, don’t be deceived by the title—this is a studio album all the way; altogether a different sort of album from “Tunog Pinoy”, thudding out of the gate with the monumental ‘Kailan Pa Kaya’, syrupy treated vocals, John Bonham-esque drumming and all; dig too, if you will, the Zeppelin vibe of ‘Screw’ before sailing into the trippy, acoustic ‘Tattong Araw’, or the legendary ‘Wally’s Blues’; more effects than the earlier record, sounding more like newfound recordings from the late 1960’s than a mid-70’s record—this has more psychedelic credentials than most reissues which get that label bestowed upon them; you might say that while “Tunog Pinoy” is classic rock in the best sense, this is classic psychedelia, in the best sense. CD $10 SKU:18972
INFLUENCE - ST(Canadian 60s rock) Label:PACEMAKER For a brief moment during 1967 and 1968, Influence was one of the most exciting outfits to emerge on the Toronto rock scene. No other Canadian band at the time could boast such an international flavour, and no other Canadian group, with the exception of The Band, could arguably embody such an eclectic mix of styles. JARDINE- Look in the Window( lost jewel of late-1960's UK psych)Label:LION Jardine’s album was recorded in three glorious weeks in June 1969, at Sounds Aquarian Studios, a stone’s throw from that justifiably famous fashion hub, Carnaby Street. The sessions were fun. Polydor was supposed to release the album. Musicians dropped in to say "hello" and ended up on the record (uncredited)—among them Peter Frampton, Andrew "Andy" Bown (Herd and Status Quo), and Brian Appleyard (drummer from East of Eden). Singer Mickey Cox had been in Robert Plant’s pre-Led Zeppelin group The Band of Joy—it was Cox, in fact, who became their singer when Plant left the band. But suddenly, thanks to band management problems, the LP was shelved. Keith Law, who had written all of the songs, joined Velvett Fogg for their only album, and Jardine was forgotten. Now, forty years later, you can be among the first to discover the brooding excellence of these tracks, music both strange and sinister, with moments of fragile beauty. There are some very pretty songs here (haunting melodies abound), but there is no escaping the dark side of life (‘Masochists of Strangulation,’ ‘Execution of the Child,’ and monumental dirge ‘Blackbirds of Jardine’, which tells of self-same birds, and the fact that they will “destroy you, and leave you pain, pain, pain”), songs perhaps more akin to the band Comus than to anything else we have encountered from the psychedelic era. There are also heavy guitar solos, churning organ, flute, and flowing sitar, for good measure. A 16-page booklet includes a band history lyrics, and comments on the songs by Keith Law. A lost jewel of late-1960's UK psychedelia, from a short-lived but charismatic band! CD $10 SKU:10134
KING RICHARD & THE KNIGHTS - Precision ( Plus Other 60's Albuquerque Groups excellent new mexico 60's garage) -Label:COLLECTABLES This Albuquerque, NM outfit, also known as The Knights, had outlasted most of its contemporaries, albeit with a 30 year hiatus in the middle, mostly by virtue of the quality of their singles, which turned them into local stars. King Richard and the Knights started out in 1961 as a Ventures-type instrumental outfit, playing surf instrumentals and throwing in the occasional Chuck Berry-authored vocal number for variety. By 1964, they'd evolved sufficiently to rate a recording contract with Red Feather, who scored with the Knights' first release, "Precision," which became a regional hit in the southwest and rode the No. 1 spot on Albuquerque's top radio station for weeks. The band's classic line-up consisted of Dick Stewart (aka "King Richard) on lead guitar and vocals, Larry Longmire on lead and rhythm guitar, and Corky Anderson (later succeeded by Jack Paden) on drums, with Larry Reid handling the saxophone and some vocals. The group's bassists included Gary Butler and Gary Snow. (all copies have a small cut out hole in CD $10 SKU:10149
LEWALLEN BROTHERS- Hitch-Hike! (1964-1968) Byrds, the Beau Brummels, and the ZombiesLabel:COLLECTABLES "The '60s were filled with garage bands that could play up a storm covering other peoples' material, but the Lewallen Brothers made a sound that had the immediacy of those bands and the kind of polish that one associated more with the Byrds, the Beau Brummels, and the Zombies. The fourteen songs on this CD come from sessions dating between November of 1964 and April 1967, and it's like listening to good outtakes by the Beatles or the Roulettes. Some of it was a bit retro in its time ('What More Can I Say,' with its soaring harmonies, chiming rhythm guitars, hot drumming, and memorable hooks, could have competed with the Beatles if only it had been cut in 1964 or 1965, not the spring of 1967), but it all sounds sweet today, and, in terms of the pleasure that it will elicit, is nearly as essential to any collection of '60s rock & roll as any album ever cut by the Byrds or the Zombies. By the mid-1960s, the Lewallen Brothers were opening for musical acts such as the Turtles, the Beau Brummels, and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Ironically, the heavy live schedule impeded them from recording consistently. Music critic Bruce Eder explains "Their impeccable harmony singing, coupled with their considerable instrumental prowess and their tight sound, made them highly desirable both as a warm-up act as well as a backing band.” This collection includes their classic songs from 1964-1968, including ‘Only a Dream,’ a song which led to the band ’s numerous performances on Dick Clark's famed TV show, Happening ’68. PARRISH & GURVITZ BAND -S/T (1971 West coast sound)
Label:WET WORLD fter disbanding Gun,
Paul Gurvitz reunited with former Londoners/Knack band-mate Brian Parrish. The
pair were soon signed to George Martin's Regal Zonophone label, which led to
the release of their sole LP—fully infused with the US west-coast sound—in late
1971. Martin produced a second album that was never released, featuring the
talents of Mike Kellie (ex-Spooky Tooth), Micky Gallagher (pre-Ian Dury) and
Rick Wills (pre-Foreigner), who would collectively go on to become Peter
Frampton's Camel. This double-disc set compiles the 1971 LP and ten tracks from
the unreleased follow-up, with liner notes and unreleased pictures. For those
who like details, here is a more complete band history, from Paul Gurvitz: “Brian
Parrish & Paul Gurvitz met in 1963 in London. Paul was a hairdresser and
Brian a client. They talked about playing in a band and then formed The
Londoners. The Londoners started playing U.S. army bases in France and Germany
and finally made their way to Hamburg where they became a resident band in the
famous Star Club. They made several
records for the Star Club label before returning to London to start a new band
called The Knack. The Knack disbanded in 1966—Paul Gurvitz formed a band called
Gun (featuring Peter Dunton of Please, Neon Pearl, and T2 fame), and later,
Three Man Army. In 1971 both Paul and Brian had started solo projects but
decided to drop the solo projects and form Parrish and Gurvitz. They recorded
their first album with producer Lou Reizner, and after it was finished, their
managers took the album to George Martin, who decided to re-record the album
and sign Parrish & Gurvitz to his own label. The first album, "Parrish
and Gurvitz," featured Brian on vocals and guitar and Paul on vocals and
bass; on drums was Mike Kellie (Spooky Tooth).
Parrish and Gurvitz put a band together to tour the U.S. which consisted
of Brian Parrish on guitar and vocals, Paul Gurvitz on guitar and vocals, Mike
Kellie on drums, Micky Gallagher on keyboards, Ian Drury and Rick Wills on
bass. That lineup recorded a second album with George Martin that was not
released until now. Paul Gurvitz went on to record a clutch of gerat albums
with Three Man Army, the Graeme Edge Band, and of course, Baker Gurvity Army with
the legendary Ginger Baker on drums.” $10 each (2xCD)

PSYCHEDELIC MOODS PART 2 - Sunset Love & Inner Sanctum Journey Thru Inner Space)Label:CICADELIC After releasing the “Psychedelic Moods” album, in October of 1966, Mark Barkan envisioned another psychedelic album for his next release. It was to be performed by a Greenwich Village band called “Inner Sanctum”. The theme of the album was to be a psychedelic journey into the various psyches of the mind. The trip started with a journey into the past (The House Of Yesterday) then covered the inner workings of the mind (ID) then the descent into madness (Hydro Pyro) hallucination (Purple Floating) and finally culminating in nirvana (Snow Petals). Unfortunately, Barkan was unable to find a record company willing to lease the masters and so they languished for decades unreleased. Now, at long last the masters for this aborted album are mixed from the original four track tapes and forty plus years later the psychedelic sounds of “Inner Sanctum” are now ready, willing, and able to blow your mind. Sunset Love” was comprised of band members from New Mexico and Texas. In the fall of 1968, thirteen original songs and two covers were recorded for a potential album, but nothing was ever released. “Sunset Love’s” lush harmonies, soaring vocals, superior song writing, and flower power consciousness pervaded their songs with a depth and quality unheard of from most 60s’ bands. While their sound can be compared to such bands as “The Mamas and The Papas”, “The Peanut Butter Conspiracy”, “Spanky and Our Gang”, and “The Love Exchange”, “Sunset Love” had their own inimitable style that transcended a generic stereo-type. Had Sunset Love released their album in the 60’s, there is no doubt it would have been an instant rarity of excellence. The “Sunset Love” tapes are sourced from the original stereo versions and reveal the great harmonies and surrealistic lyrics of an undeservedly overlooked and forgotten band from the late 60’ CD $10 SKU:12399
SIXTING MUSIC- Rendering Pink Floyds (Obscure French-only Pink Floyd covers!)-Label:Skyf Zol Obscure French-only Pink Floyd covers album gets an outing on CD; as the label says, “It was only natural that the budget/knock-off record market would venture into the vaunted world of progressive music. And so, sometime after the release Dark Side Of The Moon, musicians of suitable competency were hired, cover songs were selected, and the art department went to work on something eye-catching and only a little deceptive. Not surprisingly, six of the eight tracks are aimed squarely at the Meddle/DSOTM heads, leaving just enough room for a slowed-down ‘Apples And Oranges’ and the tossed-off instrumental ‘Red Phone. Open Up Your Mind Up Your Mind - The Psych Pop World of Rembrandt Records 1966-1967- Label:CICADELIC RECORDS Open Up Your Mind covers the first two incredible years of Rembrandt Records, a Chicago based label. The first release in March 1966 was a bluesy garage-band novelty record titled "Boots Are Made For Talkin ". It was a parody of Nancy Sinatras, smash hit at the time, "These Boots Are Made For Walking". When the single failed to chart Rembrandt Records owner Reggie Weiss moved in a different direction, merging pop with psychedelic music, for the next single, "Open Up Your Mind". He wrote the song based on a LSD trip and response to the single was positive. Soon other psych-pop singles were issued featuring The Circus, The Nickel Bag, and Mondays Children. Cash Box magazine began plugging Rembrandt Records during the fall of 1966. However, Weiss was unable to secure solid distribution and could not compete with the larger Chicago based record labels such as Dunwich, USA, and Destination. By 1967, Weiss devoted all of his time promoting a high-school band called The Lemon Drops. He wrote another LSD inspired song titled "I Live In The Springtime" for the band. Unfortunately, the single was unable to chart, even regionally. Over the ensuing decades though, the reputation of The Lemon Drops, The Nuchez, The Nite-Owls and other Rembrandt artists has grown immeasurably. This compilation contains all the singles issued on Rembrandt Records from 1966-1967, plus many previously unreleased versions and mixes that are appearing for the first time ever. The twenty-two recordings on this album make it apparent that Rembrandt Records was way ahead of its time when these treasures from the psychedelic 60s were recorded. COMP CD $12 SKU:12121
