Formed by singer/songwriter Danny McDonald (Little Murders, Stoneage Hearts, Oscarlima, Jericho and solo artist) in 1998, they arrived on the Melbourne indie music scene, quickly signed to USA label Zip Records and released a string of EP’s before dropping the classic Into The Sun album in 2001. APHRODITE'S CHILD - It’s Five O Clock (1969 pop psych)Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) The first single, ‘Let Me Love, Let Me Live,’ released in October 1969, made it to a number one position in the French charts, but it was the B-side ‘Marie Jolie’ that was most popular in the rest of Europe. The title track ‘It's Five O'clock’ quickly followed the same path; released in December 1969, it did well in the charts of many European countries. Dream-like, baroque, carefully crafted pop/psych with English lyrics, in some ways very much in the style of English bands of the era, but with that little twist that makes it very special; three bonus tracks include rare singles; lyrics and photos too in the 16-page booklet. BAKER GURVITZ ARMY--Live In Milan Italy 1976 -LAST COPIES Label:VOICEPRINT The Baker Gurvitz Army came into existence when former Gun and Three man Army members Paul and Adrian Gurvitz joined forces with legendary drummer Ginger Baker in 1974. The Baker Gurvitz Army was the first real musical project for Ginger Baker since the short-lived band Salt in 1972 and Ginger Baker's Airforce some two years prior to that. The band released their first album the self titled “Baker Gurvitz Army” in late 1974, and the album sold well enough to break in to the American charts. The band went on to record two further studio albums including “Elysian Encounter” in 1975 and “Hearts On Fire” in 1976. This live recording, which forms part of the Official Ginger Baker Bootleg Series, was recorded in Milan on the 23rd of March 1976 during the tour to promote what would turn out to be the bands final studio album, “Hearts On Fire.” The set list at this time reflecting the desire to promote the album included four tracks from the album including ‘Hearts On Fire,’ ‘Night People,’ ‘Thirsty For The Blues’ and ‘Neon Lights.’ There are also two tracks from “Elysian Encounter” (‘People’ and ‘Time’) and two from the bands self titled debut (‘Inside Of Me’ and ‘Memory Lane’). BAKER GURVITZ ARMY -Still Alive- DBL CD PLUS DVD (70s rock)-Label:WET WORLD RECORDS (USA) The Baker Gurvitz Army was formed in late 1974 by drummer Ginger Baker, formerly of Cream, and brothers Adrian (guitar) and Paul Gurvitz (bass), formerly of Gun. The band was filled out by vocalist Snips and keyboard player Peter Lemer. They released three albums between 1974 and 1976, the most successful of which was their self-titled debut, which charted in the U.K. and the U.S. Having dispensed with the history, we can turn our attention to this triple-disc set of recordings. This archival collection, licensed from the band, consists of live material recorded on the Baker Gurvitz Army’s 1975 and 1976 tours. The third disc is a bonus DVD, which features a German TV performance from the same era. Comes in a double CD thick jewel case, with fold open poster. The DVD includes eight tracks (43 minutes) of some great quality footage of the band live-in-the studio, highlighted by Ginger falling off his drum seat; we’re assuming this is an all regions DVD, but as this is sealed with no information on the outside, we can’t verify that. CYKLE -ST ( US garage / psych 69)Label:OUT SIDER Top notch US garage / psychedelic album from 1969: Vox organ, fuzzy guitars, snotty vocals and impressive songwriting / recording quality. Featuring all-time acid-punk classics such as “It’s Her” and “Walkout Of My Mind”. Cykle was formed in 1968, North Carolina, when gifted musician and songwriter Jimmy Sossamon (previously in famous local band The Young Ones) heard a local group, the Glory Cykle. He was so impressed that he approached them about becoming their manager. The band -- guitarists Ralph Stevens and Jeff Hardin, bassist Grady Pope, organist Rick Wilson, and drummer/vocalist Ken Allen -- practiced at the studio Sossamon had built in his parent's garage, and by the end of the year, Sossamon took up the drummer’s seat to free up Allen as lead vocalist. Band’s name was shortened to Cykle and in early 1969 they began recording an album consisting entirely of Sossamon originals. The resultant eponymous LP was released later that year as a private pressing of 500 copies on the band’s own Label Records. But despite the 1969 release date, “Cykle” sounds straight from the 1966-67 garage-punk-psychedelic book. *Insert with detailed liner notes *LP housed in an old- school- style tip- on sleeve. “When the most popular garage bands of the day were moving further and further away from the genre’s “less is more” production ideal, Cykle offered a raw, authentic take on what garage rock was meant to sound like.” - Psychedelized. "Sonic Reducer" in particular has a corrosive edge to it that makes this dead-on punk classic even more powerful than it had been before. While some of the other tracks are less notably altered, there's a freshness to these sloppier takes that makes YOUNGER, LOUDER AND SNOTTIER not only an impressive complement to the original, but possibly its superior.

Rare yet much beloved Canadian pop-psych record from 1968—an album considered by many to be the best to come out of Canada during the late 1960’s! Built around the talents of singer/guitarist Jay Tefler and bassist Fergus Hambleton, A Passing Fancy made their name in Toronto's vibrant Yorkville Village scene. That initial successes playing Toronto's club circuit led to a headlining stint at the 1967 Toronto Expo. The resulting publicity saw them "discovered" by Columbia Records, who subsequently released a string of four outstanding pop/psych singles. Here's where it gets weird. In spite of the four hit singles, Columbia elected not to release an album. Indie label Boo Records was formed to release "A Passing Fancy" on LP (the singles plus four additional tracks). Although the LP received strong reviews, Boo Records couldn't sustain promotion; by the end of the year the band had called it quits. A shame, as it's a terrific album—tough edgy rock (slashing lead track and hit single, ‘I’m Losing Tonight’); pop/psych (singles tracks ‘A Passing Fancy,’ ‘You're Going Out Of Your Mind,’ and ‘She Phoned’); sunshine pop (‘I Believe in Sunshine’); a great acid rock meltdown (‘Your Trip’). Something for everybody! As usual, we went all out to try to produce a top-notch reissue. A few years of searching led us to A Passing Fancy lead singer, rhythm guitarist, primary song-writer, and later, screenwriter (1977's Kid Vengeance, starring Jim Brown, Lee Van Cleef and Leif Garrett is his), the late Jay Telfer. DRUM CIRCUS -Magic Theatre DINGED CORNER BARGAIN (1971 truly insane psychedelic music with LSD drenched lyrics)- Label:GARDEN OF DELIGHTS Rare album by Swiss band, featuring two members of Brainticket including their leader Joel Van Droogenbroec; truly insane psychedelic music with LSD drenched lyrics by Timothy Leary; first released in 1971. "Founder and leader of Drum Circus was master drummer Peter Giger. “A giant on drums”, as the newspaper “Rhein-Main-Zeitung” called him. He was joined by two additional drummers, as well as by Joel Vandroogenbroeck and Carole Muriel, both from Brainticket. Therefore, it’s not surprising that “Magic theatre”, with its LSD-dripping lyrics (partly written by Timothy Leary, partly influenced by The Tibetan Book of the Dead), is a lot like early Brainticket. “Magic theatre” was recorded in the excellent studio of Horst Jankowski in Stuttgart. ERSEN -ONE ONLY Dunden Bugune(1977 Turkish psych) -Label:PHARAWAY SOUNDS Debut album, released in 1977, by one by one of Anatolian Rock's most sheerly talented vocalists. Turkish psych-rock with some amazing funk drums and fuzzed out guitars. Ersen spent time in Mogollar, 3 Hür-El, and Cem Karaca's Kardaslar before cementing his reputation as the frontman of Dadaslar. His voice can range from one that has a soft edge (where he swallows his notes a bit, like a muezzin would), to growling belt-outs that could have fronted any 80s metal act. Ersen and his ever-changing backup band wore Slade haircuts and loud jackets with rainbow pants or silver platform shoes, and they grew their moustaches just as long as the Beatle bangs of their Western counterparts. ERTLIF -Plus (1972 Swizz Prog) DOUBLE LP-Label:SOMMER "Debut album from 1972 by Ertlif, one of the leading Swiss progressive / psychedelic bands from the 70s. Double set, including a whole extra album of previously unreleased homemade recordings from 1971 plus a rare compilation only track from 1973. UK sounding doomy & atmospheric psychedelic hard–rock and proto–prog sounds with lot of Hammond organ, hard guitar, occasional Mellotron and English vocals. RIYL: Deep Purple, Procol Harum, , Atomic Rooster, Black Sabbath, Ainigma, Necronomicon. Ertlif was formed in 1970 by two ex–members of Egg & Bacon, lead guitarist Dany Andrey and bass player Teddy Riedo. They were inspired by Pink Floyd, Yes, Procol Harum, Van der Graaf Generator and Genesis amongst others. A strong rhythm section and twin lead guitars blended with the Hammond organ created the characteristic Ertlif sound. Riedo and Beni Hauri (the band’s roadie) had been experimenting with oscillators, noise generators, ring modulators and other devices since 1969. In early 1972 they introduced these electronic sounds into the band’s closing number 'Classical Woman' so becoming pioneers of electronic music in Switzerland. They also became the first Swiss band to use a Mellotron. This double LP contains: The first Ertlif album from 1972, featuring the original tracklist and sound taken from the original master tapes + a bonus LP consisting of previously unreleased 1971 demo recordings, done at the band’s rehearsal studio without overdubs. With these demos, Ertlif were offered a recording contract with Tell Records. ARCO IRIS- Los Elementales (Argentine 67-70 rock)-Label:Serie Collectors From 1967 to the present day, the musical group Arco Iris has made history in Argentine rock. Founded by Gustavo Santaolalla, Guillermo Bordarampé and Ara Tokatlián, the trio included different drummers in its line-up and performed a style of rock music heavily influenced by Argentine folklore; as a result, they were perhaps the most praised band of Argentine rock during the 1970s. ARTURO STALTERI-Early Rings: Compositions 1974-1975 (dark weirdness) -Label:MPR after the release of their second (and last) album, "Gudrun," talented Pierrot Lunaire keyboardist tried a solo career the early results of which are gathered on this disc (seventeen tracks from the early 1970's). This is fascinating reminiscent of Durutti Column (believe it or not) more than anything, with dark and weird melodies in any number of stark arrangements; whether playing acoustic piano or Farfisa organ, guitar, balalaika, darbuka, sitar, violin, or glockenspiel (or any of the other instruments he plays on these recordings), Stalteri expressed various influences utilizing his brilliant technique and sensitivity. The song titles all refer to elements of Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, so it is not much of a stretch to suggest that the “early rings” in the title of this disc are not accidental, and that perhaps Stalteri was writing a musical score for the stories in his own strange way. Something akin to Sergius Golowin’s moody “Lord Krishna” album, sans lyrics in this case. CD $10 SKU:20298

AVE ROCK - ESPACIOS (70s Argentine space psych)Label:FONOCOL Ave Rock was a pioneer of symphonic prog in Argentina, their second album "Espacios" being their most accomplished effort. The band's ambitions are evidently high, as it can be inferred from the expansive nature of 'Pausa en Espacios' (21 minutes) and 'Surcos en el Aire' (15 minutes). The band has a lot of strong points: an ability to organize diverse musical motifs with cohesion, a clever management of textures and tempo shifts, robust skills, and solid interplay. While references to Yes are evident in Ave Rock's global sound, Ave Rock's music tends to be more reflective, so their major foreign influences stem from the eerie melancholy of 1973-75 Pink Floyd, Genesis' dramatic sensibility, and some of the special ethereal magic usually associated to Invisible, another compatriot band that was influential in the local rock scene during the early 70s. The amazing adventures of the Russian/Scottish Euroboy wandering the hip hotspots of Europe, San Tropez from his parental home in Paris, writing songs with the likes of Francis Lai, having megahits in Spain, recording with Cat Stevens and his band, touring and hanging out with Leonard Cohen—it just goes on, and yes, it is impossibly romantic; but the meat of this all is the album itself: it's equal parts UK baroque-downer pop/folk, and French pop music, a place where Dutronc meets Gainsbourg; bonus tracks include solo acoustic versions of the best tracks from the album, plus Garrie’s rare 1968 psych pop single 'Queen Of Spades’ b/w ‘Close Your Eyes', as well as tracks done for a label which planned to take over the European music business by issuing music only on 8-Track Cartridgesent debut album from one of Argentina’s best groups, which included Daddy Antogna from Orion’s Beethoven; very spacey psychedelic progressive from 1974, featuring the sweet ‘Ausencia’, the moody ‘El absurdo y la melodía’, and the great guitars and organ of ‘Gritos’; the best track might well be the long improvised instrumental ‘Viva Bélgica’; a very good effort, full of shifting rhythms and rich melodies. “Ave Rock were Argentina’s version of a progressive Deep Purple; great guitar driven heavy prog/psych drenched in tons of Hammond organ. Songs are very well developed with some nice mood variations and dynamic arrangements. Although there are some vocals they play a minor role as the album is mostly instrumental. The entire album is pretty trippy and spacey, with tons of guitar, bass, drum and Hammond interplay. In many ways this album reminds me of bands from the Ital-prog genre. Clearly one of the classics of Argentinian rock, and a fantastic record. CD $10 SKU:18952

CRAMPS -HOT PEARL RADIO BROADCAST-LIVE ZURICH 1986 -Label:MIND CONTROL LIVE ZURICH 1986 - In 1986 The Cramps released one of their most well known and best selling albums, A Date With Elvis, which did especially well in Europe. On 21st of April of that year, the group led by Lux and Ivy, rolled into Zurich to perform in front of yet another full crowd of adoring fans. As they did the entire tour, the group opened with a rollicking version of "Heartbreak Hotel", followed by several other classic covers, and of course, what Cramps show from '86 would be complete without "Can Your Pussy Do The Dog." FOLKAL POINT- ST (70s RARITY) Label:MIDAS RECORDINGS/HOXA Lost in fire and flood and remastered from original vinyl, now fetching as much as $1,416, 'Folkal Point' (the official release, and the only one with the bonus track) represents a moment in time, captured for all time. Only 250 of the original available ever, and only 500 of this special edition were made. And now, this self-titled album, from its somewhat obscure origins rises again, through the determination and meticulous work carried out by Hoxa Sound and The Vinyl Factory. That original sense of ambition is now a collective sense of satisfaction. Beware unauthorised remasters! The band can make something if you buy the Hoxa edition, having made nothing out of any others for the last 46 years. The recording of this album did constitute a milestone in the career of Folkal Point, but not one that could ever have been anticipated. And what was achieved in that relatively brief period of the early 1970s has truly lasted a lifetime.
